My son had a stuffy nose so we kept him home from school Friday—we always err on the side of caution with this because even if we know he’s not really too sick for school we don’t ever want to put anyone at risk or make anyone feel uncomfortable so we just keep him for a day til the sniffles subside. I was supposed to have my appointment Friday but because he had to stay home and they don’t allow anyone in the office but the patient I had to call to reschedule. I mentioned I had to cancel due to my son being home from school and now they won’t let me reschedule my appointment until I get a negative test. -_- I have no symptoms, never did, and all he had was a sniffle. So annoyed because it can take a very long time to get a test still where I am.
Also wanted to add that I did have my son tested at a pediatric facility (got a same day spot!) before he was allowed to return to school and he was of course negative. I was just surprised they didn’t offer an alternative like a virtual visit or anything knowing that I’m high risk and how long it can take to get an adult test and then reschedule. It will basically be like I’m skipping an entire appointment.
I had a checkup this morning! All is well. Blood pressure was good, baby’s heartbeat was great, and I got my tdap shot so I’m all caught up on everything.
I think I weigh more now than I did when DD2 was born, probably thanks to the GD diet I was on with her. So that was kind of a shock to see...oops 🙈
I asked about our hospital’s Covid policies right now and mentioned that some “friends in other states” (i.e. you guys 😂) had hospital rules that didn’t allow the support person to leave and come back. She said that’s not the case here - I’m allowed one support person, DH can come and go, but if/when he leaves we can’t swap out for another support person. He’ll probably come home overnight to relieve whatever grandparents are here. So not bad at all!
ETA that my appointments will now be every two weeks. I can’t believe we’re at this stage already!
@bblair24 That's the same policy my hospital has. Visitors are "discouraged" from leaving but are allowed to. We may also have him come home overnight to relieve grandparents. We'll see how things go. I can't believe we're already at the every 2 week point either! And pretty soon it'll be every week...
I had my MFM appt today, and the St/Di ratio is elevated from last week. She told me to expect the possibility of delivery NEXT WEEK. If I go in next week and things are worse, it's steroid shots, hospitalization, and delivery at 32w. If things stay like this, it's 34w. I'm also looking at a Cesarean. The good news is she had a 95 percent survival rate, and less than 1% of significant developmental delays. At 32 to 34 weeks, any health issues are short term. She'll be preterm, not very or extremely. Sooooo I just want her to be safe, even if that means she's better off outside the womb.
sorry to hear about that @Serenamarr , i can relate to your frustration! When we drove out East to visit my family for Thanksgiving and ended up staying an extra week, I had to reschedule my 20 week anatomy scan and they put me through the same thing - had to quarantine for either 2 weeks once home OR wait 5 days and then get a negative test before they would let me come in. I didn't end up having my anatomy scan until close to 24 weeks! I appreciate the caution they are taking, it's just another element to consider when trying to plan and manage a family at the same time.
@aisukurimsarang wow - fingers crossed for you!! Such a relief we are mostly at the stage now where the prognosis for early delivery is good. Hopefully your results are good next week and you can keep her cooking for as long as you can, try not to stress!
@aisukurimsarang oh that is stressful! I'm glad to hear that the prognosis for baby is very good. Sending all the good vibes that things look good next week and she stays put for as long as possible.
@aisukurimsarang I hope things stay stable so she can stay put for as long as possible, but I'm sure its good to know the prognosis is so positive at this point.
@aisukurimsarang Hope things look good next week and your girl can stay in a few more weeks, but I'm glad they are taking the right steps to give your baby as good of a start as possible!
@aisukurimsarang I should have checked here before commenting on the other thread! I hope 34 weeks happens!!
@Serenamarr Ugh it's so frustrating. I changed practices when we moved and I got a cold a week before our move. Took 5 days to drive cross country, 2 more weeks before I could schedule my appointment (which was the anatomy scan) but I had my intake call a week and a half into my cold and mentioned it. They called me the day before my appointment to ask if I was still sick (this would be 2.5 weeks out from onset of stuffy nose which isn't even a very common covid symptom) and I said I have a super tiny runny nose that's probably just my pregnancy post-nasal drip that I always have and that's it and they made me get a test. I was SOOOO MAD because they never told me if I wasn't better I'd need that. Like, a runny nose in pregnancy is common and I always have one. It was also difficult to get a test here then. I had to schedule 5 days out and wait 5 days for my results and if they had just told me earlier I could have proactively gotten one instead of them springing it on me the day before my appointment (4 weeks after my cold started).
@aisukurimsarang wow that’s eye opening. It’s great to hear the positive outlook at this age already, but fx for a few more weeks inside and a healthy happy baby in the end!
I had a virtual appointment and it went well. I’m glad it wasn’t in-person because it seems like a waste of a drive when there’s no real issues right now. My next appointment is in person on the 17th to verify my placenta previa has resolved. I also asked about getting a doctors note for necessity for the doula so we can use our hsa. She didn’t really know what it would require but was willing if my hsa could provide a form. Has anyone ever gone that route and had success?
Today I had my 32 week ultrasound at the perinatal center, which went very well! Baby is measuring right in the middle at the 50th percentile (4 lbs, 5 oz) so no negative effectives from the GD that they can see, which was a huge relief!! They said if I go all the way to 40 weeks, baby would likely be able 7.5 lbs. I can't believe how clearly we could see baby's face on the ultrasound, it really is amazing!
They informed me that because of the GD, I cannot go at all past my due date (their reasoning was a risk of stillbirth which freaked DH out SO MUCH), so next appointment they are scheduling me for induction in case baby doesn't come naturally before then! So it looks like actually, I will most likely have a (end of) March baby, rather than an April baby! Hope I don't get kicked out of the group
Then afterwards, I went across the parking lot to my ob's office and had my first non-stress test - wow, they are a pain! It's so uncomfortable on my lower back to lay like that and it took 40 mins! But baby's heartbeat was good and lots of movement. At one point, there was this loud, annoying noise and I called the nurse in to make sure there wasn't anything wrong with the machine - it was baby hiccupping!! haha, baby literally had the hiccups for like 15 minutes straight and it was SO LOUD! Then quick appointment with my OB and all was good! Tomorrow is PT (for low back/pelvic floor) and my first acupuncture appointment!
@theblondebump that sounds like a great appointment! I'm so glad that the stress with the GD has quieted down some, and that baby has been unaffected by it so far!
@aisukurimsarang my goodness when it rains it pours for you!! So sorry you’re dealing with all these rollercoasters. You seem to have a good outlook on things which helps! Hoping your babe is as healthy as can be whenever she makes her debut! ❤️
I had acupuncture today, which was interesting. I'd never done it before.
It was medical acupuncture which I guess is slightly different from "eastern" acupuncture and performed by a doctor in a family practice. We chatted about my sciatica and history of back pain, he did an exam with a few physical tests to get an idea of where I was experiencing pain and why, and then he inserted probably about 20-ish needles in my low back and one in my ear. He said normally for low back pain, he would attach the needles to electrical stimulation as well, but that he wouldn't do that during pregnancy. I don't feel any different right now, but I assume it's not something that just instantaneously helps. I have another appointment next week - we'll see if it helps at all! I certainly don't think it can hurt.
I have an OB appointment today and will probably shock the staff because for the first time in my ten years as their patient, I have a LIST of questions to ASK. I'm seeing the Midwife, whom I love, but I feel like my OB is the one I need to talk to this time.
SO is like ASK ABOUT COGNITIVE DELAYS. COGNITIVE DELAYS. COGNITIVE DELAYS. Sweet baby, Jesus, maybe we can aks the NICU staff about that and focus on her surviving birth at 32 weeks?!?!?!
Edit - Also, my MFMs office bumped me up the COVID-19 vaccine priority list. I'm getting it tomorrow, and getting the second dose just ahead of my goal 34w. They overrode my Friday appointment to do it. I guess they want me vaccinated before delivery.
@aisukurimsarang Good luck and FX for couple more weeks news at you appt today! I’d have a million questions too. Lol. That’s awesome they moved you up for the vaccine as well. 🙂
good luck @aisukurimsarang !! And so awesome about you getting the vaccine. Im eligible here in PA as a pregnant woman, but there are just no vaccines available
Yeah... That didn't go so well, either. Delivery by Cesarean no later than March 1, and she doesn't think we'll make it that far. She said she absolutely does not want to deliver before Feb 19. But after the 19th, all bets are off. *sigh*
@aisukurimsarang I’m sorry the appointment didn’t go so well. I’m glad you’re able to get your vaccine so quickly though. I’ll be thinking positive thoughts for you and baby.
@aisukurimsarang Goodness, virtual hugs to you! I’m sure this is a lot to wrap your head around, it would be for me, no doubt. Not the plan you had in mind but I am really glad you have a Dr that is on top of what is best and safest for baby. Sending positive thoughts your way!
@aisukurimsarang oh dear, that escalated quickly! Thinking of you. I hope you are able to get some rest tonight and have a peaceful next few weeks as you prepare for an early babe.
@aisukurimsarang I don’t even know what to say I’m so sorry you are dealing with this!
@theblondebump my stepdad is an acupuncturist and it’s the only thing that saved my back and got me into labor at nearly 42w with my first!
I had my MFM appt today. Still haven’t been able to reschedule my regular midwife appointment because I haven’t been able to get a covid test yet...but according to mfm everything looks fine and she’s not worried about my SUA. Just have to keep monitoring as babe gets bigger to make sure growth placenta and fluids are still adequate. Growth is def not a concern right now as babe is measuring huge. I’m 30w3d and all her measurements are closer to 33w. Big old head just like her siblings 🙄
So I go to an office with five doctors. I see all of them throughout my prenatal visits because any can be on call when the baby is ready to join us. The one I saw today was the one who delivered my son. I didn't like him for delivery, but I like that he is more thorough than the others during office visits.
Anyway, I passed the glucose test and my weight is at a good place. But I have to up my iron and lower my blood pressure a little. The baby is currently transverse, but still time to get in position for hopefully my third vaginal delivery.
My next appt got pushed back a little bit (in 2 weeks) because I forgot about a meeting-- I'll be 35 weeks at the time and she will check the baby's position and if I'm dilated at all- so curious for it and really hope I can go to weekly appointments after this one!
@kadeephd, my next appointment is on the 15th, so if things have gotten worse, I'll get steroid shots starting the 17th I think is what my OB was saying.
Edit - It's appointment Mondays, potential delivery that Friday.
