@nopegoat ewwww that is so nasty!! LOL totally something my son would do too though hahaha @marikkita12 so glad it wasn't COVID! Hope you can feel better soon - during my last pregnancy I used eucalyptus oil in the bath to get some relief from a nasty cold, it was helpful!
@becks_726 I get 12 weeks under FMLA (I can’t remember if 4 or 6 of those are unpaid). I’ll most likely milk those 12 weeks for all they’re worth, though I’d consider going back at 10 weeks if we’re still working from home at that point.
@becks_726, I will take 1 year off. I don’t get paid for maternity leave as I’m a contractor/self employed but I did 1 year with my son and will do 1 year again.
@becks_726 I live in Canada and took a year with my daughter. I've been on permanent leave since my second was born and will remain SAHM until this baby is in school. Care is hard to find here and super pricey. Plus my husband's schedule in the passed has been difficult to work around.
@becks_726 Where I live, my state recently passed a law that allows 12 weeks paid (not 100% of your paycheck, but still it’s partially pay), so I am going to milk that for all it’s worth. I did 8 weeks with DS and it just wasn’t enough. The full 12 I took with DD was awesome, and at the end I wanted more.
@becks_726 I get 12 weeks, I think that some is paid it's like 6 wks paid if you have a vaginal birth and 8wks for a c-section. I'll take the 12 weeks last time I took an extra month unpaid (I took a leave of absence) So I think I went back at 15 wks. It was nice to have the extra time. I'm honestly debating transitioning to SAHM it's not a case of money, my oldest starts kindergarten in the Fall and I want to be able to be there for her and for her to be able to do activities and we haven't been able to do that at all.

Last time I took 8 weeks because I had a C-section but I was only working part time in the evenings. I work in theatre and who knows if things will be open when the baby is born. I also work part time for a lawyer out of her home office so I’ll probably go back earlier since I enjoy getting out of the house and I can take the baby with me (plus I can’t imagine the chaos that the office and finances will be by the time I get back lol). I will continue working with the lawyer up until I give birth because it’s only 10 hours a week and I really enjoy my job
@becks_726 I'm in Canada and did 18 months with my first, but will do 12 months with this babe. 18 months was hard on our finances even though it was so amazing to be home for so long with our little guy.
Had QUITE the night and morning - DH was up all night being sick, and kept me up all night!! Then I freaked out that maybe it was COVID cause gastro symptoms are symptoms, so then I was up at 6am bleaching everything and making DH stay in our bedroom. He is feeling much better (probably ate something weird, but I can't think of what it could be that I didn't eat...) - but he does have a COVID test booked for this afternoon just in case. Now I'm worried that it is a stomach flu and I'm going to catch it (they're so contagious)... that can't be good during pregnancy!
@canucklehead123 I had a stomach flu when I was pregnant with my first. It was 24 hours of hell but it wasn’t too bad. If you do end up getting it, just focus on trying to stay hydrated. Little sips of water or Gatorade. Staying hydrated is more important than trying to eat unless it goes on for more than 24 hours. I hope he had food poisoning and he feels better now
Ok pro tip for those WFH with littles around (or anyone with littles looking for some quiet time😂). Look into OutSchool if you haven’t already! DS is in remote school from 8:45-2:45, and DD has been having issues entertaining herself. I signed her up for two 30 minute classes through OutSchool, and she LOVED them! She did one that focused on letters with a Peppa Pig theme and then another one about monkeys. They are just zoom calls, but the teachers are so engaging and make the classes interesting. They held DD’s attention with ease! You pay per class, but they are on the cheaper side ($8-$12 per class). Totally worth it for an hour of quiet time where I could get my own stuff done.
@becks_726 that’s a good question. I haven’t been at my job for a year yet so technically don’t qualify for FMLA (I’m in US). I haven’t told work yet (long story) but am planning to within the week. I know I do have short term disability so at a minimum I will get six weeks. My postpartum experience with my son was pretty difficult so I couldn’t imagine going back before 12 weeks with him but maybe this one will be different!
Does anyone get headaches every day? It doesn’t matter how much water I drink or how much food I eat, like freaking clockwork at 830 it always hits and I’m really over it
Same with the headaches here, except they’re sporadic so one day it might hit me in the morning and the next day at night. Very painful though on the top of my head
maternity leave for me will be 12 weeks unpaid, although I believe short term disability can be used in conjunction and pays up to 60% of salary or $700/pay period, whichever is less. I got to stay home for around 8 months with my daughter because I was unemployed at the time and didn’t rush back into it, and I’m subtly dropping hints to DH about maybe not returning to work for a while. it’s so hard to leave them so early, but I also really wanted my independence and a paycheck after a while. It’s all hard!
Update: DH's COVID test was negative and he is feeling better now, bonus - I did not get sick last night! So he definitely ate something bad and we're all in the clear, big sigh of relief.
Lucky with Baby 3, my current company offers 16weeks paid leave and I will use 4 weeks of my vacation leave for a total of 20 weeks. With my previous 2, I had 10 weeks and 12 weeks. Will enjoy the time off since this is the last one and want to treasure every minute. Husband gets 6 weeks paternity as well and he is also using some vacation time. Trying to keep the baby out of daycare till March 2022 if possible.

My Makena got approved! I’m so relieved. I was ready to call insurance and yell at them
