Has anyone’s OBGYN given recommendations on when to get the Covid-19 vaccine? I’ve heard 2nd trimester but my dr hasn’t provided much info. I’ll be 13 weeks tomorrow
@nasalot188 are you in Canada? If so, do you qualify for Moderna or Pfizer? I'm a sub teacher so I think I would qualify in my province soon but it's for the Johnson & Johnson one which I definitely want to wait and see how it goes over first.
Have you guys been seeing news lately about vaccinated mothers giving birth to babies who are being found to have antibodies to COVID? It's so cool!! I hope the antibodies are also transmitted through breastmilk. Science is awesome.
@Aerialmrs yes! My friend sent me this article a few days ago. More and more information seems to be coming out that's positive. Makes me feel better about getting my vaccine.
@sleepydaze yes Canadian! I'm in Ontario. I did ask my OB if there was a preferred option and she mentioned Moderna or Pfizer is preferred over the others in pregnant women - however we may not have a choice and she herself was not sure if the clinics will take doc recos for patients.
I've been wondering about this too. I'm going to talk with my Midwife & Family Doctor hopefully this week. In Ontario it seems like AstraZeneca is becoming more widely available but so far it's for the 60+ age group. I haven't found as much info about AstraZeneca and pregnancy like I have with Pfizer & Moderna. I definitely do want to get vaccinated, hoping talking to my Midwife & Family Doctor will help clear things up!
I was exposed to Covid this weekend on Saturday by my brother while eating outdoors. He fell sick Sunday evening and tested positive this morning. I know there’s one or two ladies in this group who have had covid during pregnancy. I’m bracing for the worst at this point even though I’m not sick yet in the slightest. Any words of encouragement or suggestions while I wait and hope for the best?
@runningonindie so sorry you're dealing with this. I haven't had it myself but my husband was exposed last month. The good news was that he ended up testing negative, despite being in extremely close quarters (inside a car) with the infected person. I really thought there was zero chance he would test negative, considering. Not sure of all the circumstances with your brother, but hopefully since you were outside, that may have helped limit your risk. Fingers crossed for you that it's nothing!
@runningonindie I’m so sorry you’re going through this! I don’t have anything other than the usual drink lots of fluids and get plenty of rest. Fingers crossed your brother has an easy course with it and you don’t catch it!!!
@runningonindie I was exposed last spring right at the start of the pandemic by one of my bosses who sat right next to me at a (how ironic) COVID planning group meeting during which papers were passed around. I was SHOCKED I didn't catch it then, as no one had even thought of masking or social distancing yet.
When I did get it, I think I caught it form daycare, and I'm only there for maybe 5 minutes a day, where everyone is fully masked.
I would try not to worry too much until you know if you have it or not. Also, don't test too early. You really should wait 3-5 days. And if you get a rapid test, follow up with a PCR if it's negative.
When I had it, DH tested negative initially, but a few days later he had symptoms and tested positive.
Thanks all. I’m terrified. Even the (few) people we trust.... we just can’t trust. It’s so insane!!!! As far as our interaction we were outside doing outdoor dining - I didn’t sit directly next to him but I sat directly next to his girlfriend who is currently negative but I’m sure she MUST test positive eventually. We were with them about 3 hours total, exclusively outdoors, but hugged hello and goodbye and they held my toddler so at this point I am really just assuming the worst and hoping for the best. If I weren’t pregnant I wouldn’t be nearly as freaked. Ugh. We plan isolate this week and to test on Thursday.
@runningonindie Hopefully if you do get it, it won't be super serious. My SIL got it mid-pregnancy and she mostly complained of the bad headaches and fatigue. When I had it, it was like a bad sinus infection and I caught the start of a cough (but that usually happens to me anyway with a sinus infection). I'm sure it would have been much worse if I knew I was pregnant and couldn't take the strong decongestants and pain killers (I tested positive for COVID the day after we conceived, how's that timing??) ...but DH survived with about two days of feeling like he had the flu and not taking many drugs.
I'm pretty sure my 2 year old HAD to have had it (since it started with a daycare outbreak), but he never had a single symptom (other than being a bit tired one weekend, but we figured he was growing) and he never tested positive. Kids are crazy when it comes to this disease!
ETA: Through the whole pandemic we've been most worried about our son since he was hospitalized about 4 times in the previous year for respiratory issues. But somehow he was the healthiest of all of us!
@runningonindie I'm sorry you're going through this right now! You are right though - no matter what precautions are being taken - there is no 100% until you're vaccinated (and really not technically 100%). If it's any consolation, I've been exposed over 50 times since august (but it has been in an environment wearing mask, but not outside and not distanced) and I still haven't contracted COVID and my brother got it but his live in GF did not (and she test 3 different times over a 10 day period after his exposure). Definitely quarantine until testing, but try not to panic (I know those words are futile) you very well could be completely fine. You also might contract the virus but could very well be asymptomatic.
@chewie5990 oh yes I know the situation all too well… My parents and other brother were all at the same exposure event a few months ago and my parents both contracted it and my brother, who lives with them, and quarantined with them for over two weeks, never tested positive once or had a single symptom. He was tested at the beginning of the whole ordeal, halfway through, and then again at the end. Three separate testing incidents and not once was he ever positive… He lived in the house with two people with Covid for two weeks and did not catch it!!!!!
@runningonindie I think you've got the right plan in place! I'm so sorry you're going through this, though : ( It's totally true that you can't even trust the people you think you can trust. I hope that being outside was enough to keep you all free of COVID!
Anyone who has had SPD in previous pregnancies, when did it start? I was falling asleep last night and I was feeling quite sore in my pelvis and today I'm getting some pain when I walk but it seems really early to start that (15+5). Did it start early for anyone else? I'm sure it could just be normal pregnancy aches and pains so I'll just have to watch it.

@krash_ Last pregnancy it started early and was only slightly uncomfortable until I hit 3rd tri and nearly became bedridden. I was crawling up my stairs and couldn’t even lift my legs to walk. It was really bad. I went to the PT and chiropractor. The exercises the PT gave me took my pain from a 10 to a 1 or 2. I was able to walk again and function. The chiropractor was good but I felt the adjustments didn’t have long term affects and by the next day I needed to come back and be adjusted again. I already have a PT appointment later this month just to stay ahead of any pain.
@krash_ I had it start super early this pregnancy...like 10 weeks.
I also have a huge ovarian cyst, so I think that's adding extra pressure. It got a bit better when my uterus lifted out of my pelvis, but has started getting worse again the last week or two (I'm 17 weeks now).
It's longer lasting than my RLP and much more vag-centric (is that an accurate descriptor? lol). It hurts when I first stand up/start to walk, but usually loosens up after I'm up for a bit.
I stole my yoga ball back from my son today to see if sitting on that might help. Our sunken couch and hard chairs at my desk at home were NOT helping.
Question for mamas who’ve experienced anterior placenta before!
With DD when I first started feeling her move it stayed pretty consistent. My placenta was posterior.
With this baby I will feel her one day... and then go DAYS with nothing. I know they say with anterior placentas you feel them later, but what about inconsistency? I’ve also heard when they’re small the placenta can move around a bit so I’m wondering if maybe I just caught it at a good position a few times.
Noting that baby had strong heartbeat of 140 at this week’s appointment! I’m not worried just curious! First time with an anterior!
@runningonindie I also have a anterior placenta this time and had a posterior last time.
My OB said I wouldn’t feel her until 20 weeks because of the anterior but I started feeling her super early but like you said so inconsistent! One day she’ll be active as can be and then nothing the next day. I get stuck in my head about it.
I think it’s all related to baby location. If shes facing the placenta I’m not feeling her as much because of that ‘cushion’ but if she’s tilted to one side or the other (can they turn all the way around?) I feel her a ton.
@runningonindie my placenta was anterior last time, and I felt no movement until 18 weeks, then felt consistent movement after 20 weeks. It’s awesome you’ve felt yours this early!
@williams-jen yes I felt her super early! Even earlier than I did with DD1! It’s just been extremely sporadic like I am serious when I say I’ll feel 7,000 somersaults and then not again for a week.
Has anyone shopped for a maternity swimsuit yet? Any recommendations? We are going to Florida at the end of May so I'm going to need one soon. I found one I liked on Shein, but I'm not familiar with that site. $20 sounds good though!
@kissyfir1586 I got one on clearance from motherhood maternity earlier this year. I like it so far! It’s stretchy enough that I’m able to wear it now before I am too big but I think it will be comfy when I’m bigger too. It’s this one:
@kissyfir1586 i’m going to Mexico at the end of May so I’m also shopping for maternity swimsuits right now… I can say from past experience that SheIn is not the greatest quality it’s very hit or miss… I’ve been looking at a few on the website pink blush maternity that seem nice!
@kissyfir1586 I bought a cute swimsuit off of Amazon. It’s a tankini and it was cheap enough to buy 2 sizes because I need a smaller top and larger bottoms. It’s really cute and has a bright print. I bought it specifically for our Maui trip we are taking in a few weeks.
Re: The Great Big Questions Thread
Part B: why am I tired 100 hours per day?
these are the answers I need now.

at least it was outdoors!
