Upcoming appointments: Dec 2, 20w OB

    How are you feeling?: Bored.

Rants/Raves: After saying for months we were doing our own Thanksgiving and Christmas, we get a phone call Weds saying dinner had been canceled, so don't come (we weren't going to). Thursday, we get a picture of the family at dinner, saying they were sorry we couldn't make it (wasn't this canceled??). Saturday, SO gets a text from NMIL apologizing for not inviting (or telling) us to dinner (Ummmm, now I'm lost). Sunday, we get asked by NMIL why we didn't make it (so many head scratches here),  and said she hopes we will get together at Christmas. SO tells her we aren't risking anything happening to my pregnancy. She just waves him off and keeps talking. It's like they completely disregard what we're saying. So, I'm going to write a sternly worded group text telling them once and for all, my pregnancy is more important than their selfish wants (in 2020) and to back the frack off.

Questions:  Feeling movement has always been a calming part of my pregnancy. Since I don't really feel her this time, i still have that PGAL anxiety. Any suggestions on relaxing and just convincing myself everything is OK?

GTKY: How many kids do you think you want / are you hoping to have? 2. And for 6 years, I knew I was done. Then, SO came back into my life after 23 years, and I knew I wanted our children. So, he got one, and a shot at one more, as long as he succeeded by then end of 2020. He did, lol. BUT THAT'S IT!!! NO MORE BABIES! I'll be 44 when this baby is born. I am done!

  • Of course, she just walloped my bladder a good one, so maybe, at almost 21w, I can finally feel her?

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of:
I always call the bump apps daily facts the "dumb baby fact of the day" because it seems like half of them are going backwards in size and half of them are things that come in a ton of different sizes. 😂 Baby is an artichoke this week apparently.

    Upcoming appointments:
    Friday!

    How are you feeling?:
Eh, a little better. I'm feeling movement like crazy and baby is responding to anyone touching my tummy it's awesome. The dog out his head there and baby kicked and it did the same to my husband, but I was talking and he couldn't tell if he felt it or not. I'm actually thinking I'm ahead of 18 weeks, but we'll see at the ultrasound. I'm not prepared at all, we have absolutely nothing for baby because we're starting over almost 9 years later, so I would gladly take a couple extra weeks at this point, ha!

    Rants/Raves:
The other day we were running errands and I was at the checkout with the family and noticed that I kind of had to pee. Then my throat got scratchy and I had a cough attack. I ran to get outside the store, and totally peed my pants a bit on the way out. It was mortifying. People were staring because I was coughing like crazy, I hope thats all they noticed. 😬

    Questions:

GTKY: How many kids do you think you want / are you hoping to have?
We have our daughter, and we're so blessed to be pregnant again after our losses....but we're going to try for another baby right after this one, because we're getting older. My plan is to have baby, work on losing weight over the summer and try for baby #3 by the end of summer again.

How are you feeling?: tired - I think it just comes with chasing after 3 kids and being cooped up in the house at this point

Rants/Raves: Rave: our small, just our family Thanksgiving went really great, and the turkey that we did in the sous vide was AMAZING!  Rant: my PTO has ended, it’s Monday, and I didn’t even make it through the mountain of emails I missed today.

    Questions: none

GTKY: How many kids do you think you want / are you hoping to have? This is it for us, 4th and final. 😩  I was thinking only 2 after twins, because that was a lotttt, but after the 3rd I wanted a 4th almost immediately.

@thedomesticgeek ahhhh!  I haven’t had that happen yet, but that is one of my worst pregnancy fears

@aisukurimsarang I am also over family making bad decisions and then guilting you for staying safe and staying home

@babygirl20210410 that’s great your NIPT came back low-risk

How are you feeling?: My IBS is having a party this week. This is still so strange to me - my IBS disappeared entirely when I was pregnant with our daughters! Other than that, not half bad. Just tired.

Rants/Raves: it’s a Covid rant this week. DH is a youth pastor and we had our first student test positive last week. This student came on Sunday night (so a week ago yesterday) and tested positive Wednesday morning. We’ve been meeting as a youth group (with some distancing stuff in place) for 10 weeks or so now and his is the first case we’ve had. We were going to go to my parents house on Wednesday for a thanksgiving meal with just them and my grandma, but we spoke to them and decided it would be best to stay home. My girls were devastated! But we felt it was the responsible thing to do. DH called his mom and she insisted it would be fine if we came over on Thursday as planned. So...we did. And she was frantic the entire time, asking what all she could do to lower the risk of us being there. Umm why did you tell us to come over? We just stayed outside the whole time because she was making us so uncomfortable. I’m no doctor, but I think our risk of catching anything from this kid is slim. Our medical team at church has defined exposure as being within six feet of a person for 15 minutes or more, and that was not our situation with him. I’m not that worried about our health really, but the fallout from it was stressful. Today an angry mom emailed DH (as we were waiting for the ultrasound to start to see if everything is okay with little guy’s heart - perfect timing) because she thought he didn’t handle it properly, even though he cancelled youth group for last night because of the positive case, which is really all he could do since he can’t go back in time and make that kid stay home. She thinks DH should have MADE all the students, and their families, that were there that night quarantine for 14 days. I don’t know what kind of power she thinks he has, buuuut it’s not that. I mean, yikes.

WOW that was long. I’m sorry. I evidently have a lot of feelings about this.

    Questions:

GTKY: How many kids do you think you want / are you hoping to have? This third baby will be the last one to grow inside of me. 😅 We have always wanted to adopt, so I’d say at least #4 is on the horizon some time down the road. We love our house, but we know we can’t fit 4 kids in here. We’ll let baby boy grow up some and at some point we will find a bigger house and then seriously consider adoption!

  • @bblair24 mass panic makes people act in weird ways. It will blow over soon!

@BuckeyeNut05 good luck with the anatomy scan!

@thedomesticgeek that really sucks! I'm sure people were looking at you because of your cough and nothing else. That is really terrible though!

@aisukurimsarang oh my god, that is such an annoying story!! People can be so weird.

@juliebird6 I think there will be a big improvement in how things are going by 2022. Hang in there!

Upcoming appointments: Anatomy scan 12/7 - can't wait! It sucks that I have to go alone, and I'm worried that baby won't cooperate and I won't get to find out the sex. I know that's not the point of the scan but...

How are you feeling?: Alright - the nausea keeps coming back and I think it has to do with being dehydrated? I have no idea.

Rants/Raves: Thank god Black Friday is over. It was a rough weekend in the world of retail. Oh, and a rave: there's this goofy toy that DD wants for Christmas that she's been talking about for months. Well, after this weekend, they all disappeared from the stores around us and then the prices online were getting jacked up! We're talking a $20-$30 toy that was now getting sold for $45, $65, and even more. DH found one at a Walmart about an hour away for the original price of $20 and drove an hour away to grab it last night. This is the first time we didn't think we'd be able to find a toy she really wants so I'm glad it worked out!

How are you feeling?: pretty good

Rants/Raves: We had a nice relaxing Thanksgiving at home.  I was sad not to see family but not sad to miss the 6 hour drive each way.

Questions: do people with more than one kid who are close in age have convertible car seats for each kid in each car?  I'm guessing the answer is yes but it just seems crazy to buy four seats for two kids.

GTKY: How many kids do you think you want / are you hoping to have?  I think 2

@bblair24 Sorry about the covid drama.  If people are super concerned about their health or their kids health, they should not be sending their kids to youth group.  They should know there is no way anyone can guarantee a covid-free environment right now, even if you take steps to minimize risks.

@thedomesticgeek lol I am definitely getting to the point where peeing a little is going to happen when I cough or sneeze.  Pregnancy is so glamorous.

@riff323 We have our anatomy scan the same day!  I am bummed my husband can't come too and also super excited to find out the sex.  It didn't even occur to me that they might not be able to tell.  We didn't find out the sex with our first so this is new.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kadeephd we have car seats in each car, so yes. 4 total convertible right now. We will probably end up with 3 car seats in each car...DD is just so small still! I had hoped she might be in a booster or something by the time baby is born but now that we are only a few months out, I can see that was a complete pipe dream.

@riff323 well now I need to know, what is the toy?!
  • @riff323 you’re so right about that! Even the doctor we saw yesterday was saying he hopes it’s over soon. He mentioned my April due date and said he hoped life would be a bit more normal then. I know we’re all ready for that!

@kadeephd that’s the crazy thing - her kids haven’t even been to youth in a few weeks! 😳 You’re right, though. When we went to the hospital yesterday for my appointment, I was honest with the check-in lady and told her that we were with this kid that later tested positive. They weren’t too concerned and we got through just fine, but she was like “honestly I think we’ve all been exposed at this point!” Unless a person can manage to stay home 100% of the time, with the way cases are rising right now I think she’s right!
  • @bblair24 I'm hoping with the vaccine developments that there's a light at the end of the tunnel!

@kadeephd yay for anatomy scans! I had the same fear last time - I think it's relatively rare in today's day and age, but if your baby just won't move the right way, it's possible they won't be able to get a good look at the genitals. I was also convinced last time that they were wrong so I suppose it doesn't matter either way!  :D

@juliebird6 here it is: https://youtu.be/C-St1REyjxM Apparently many children will be waking up on Christmas morning to pooping flamingos...
  • I've heard all about the pooping flamingos! One of my girls put that on her list but when I checked Amazon it was sold out. So I said sorry, no pooping flamingo this year.    :p

Rants/Raves: This week is really busy at work, but thankfully this is my last week on this service EVER and it will be my last weekend call, so that is definitely a rave.

Questions: For all the STM+, how much did your hospital bill end up being, ballpark? I have pretty good insurance with a PPO, and I am just trying to get an idea of what the damage might be.

    Upcoming appointments: OB Thursday!

How are you feeling?: Like crap. I'm anemic and feeling it - short of breath, exhausted but with insomnia. This pregnancy has just been much more physically difficult than my first.

Rants/Raves: My husband has been giving me a nightly massage to help me fall asleep. It's really sweet!

Questions: Is anyone else anemic? I know it's common in pregnancy but I always wonder how much of an impact my IBD has

GTKY: How many kids do you think you want / are you hoping to have? We were hoping for 3, but I have to see exactly how tough this pregnancy is / the newborn stage is with a toddler at home 24/7.

  • @rexnie I am during pregnancy. I end up taking an additional supplement. I've had pica (ice) twice, but last time, we started it early and it was a mild craving.

@bbrahmbhatt I believe my hospital bill was in the $3k-$4k range for a drug-free birth with no complications. With the best insurance my work provided.

ETA: that bill was just for my care, not DD's - she was listed on DH's plan.
  • kadeephdkadeephd member
    edited December 2020
@bbrahmbhatt Our hospital bill was a bit over 1.5k, and the "global maternity fee" for my ob was 880.  That covered ob care at the hospital in addition to all of my normal appointments, but there were extra costs for ultrasounds and bloodwork throughout the pregnancy too.  I think all in all, the entire pregnancy and delivery cost us about 3k - 3.5k.   I had a healthy pregnancy and vaginal delivery with an epidural.  I didn't have great insurance but I don't think that's too far outside the norm.

ETA: my son was on my husband's plan and we didn't get a bill for his care at the hospital.

It's really going to depend on your insurance.  Some people pay almost nothing.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @bbrahmbhatt, mine was 2K for a vaginal birth with an induction, 300 for the anesthesiologist, 150 for the pediatrician, and 300 for my OB. I had a 1K deductible, and it covered 80% after that
  • @bbrahmbhatt with DS1 didn’t have the greatest insurance and my part was like 1700, and DS also had a 3000 deductible (but that was his NICU stay) and then I think my OB copay for the just pregnancy exams etc was like 600. (The kicker was a month later DH started a new job and DS had to have surgery that year so we had to start all over with another 2500 deductible!)
DS2, we had better coverage and less complications with it. I also had met the deductible for the year because I had to have an appendectomy at 22 weeks pregnant, so it was less than 1500 I think?

This time around if I’m reading and understanding everyone correctly, my OB appointments for 40 weeks of pregnancy along with standard labor and delivery are all wrapped up into one charge, and I had a $30 copay. My sister’s husband works at the same place and with her youngest they had this and she said it was a similar charge. But if there are extra complications (which now there are) or whatever that number is subject to change. But man, having a girl who only costs us 30 bucks would be freaking awesome! My girl is a discount shopper!!

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a banana (but I guess one of those extra small ones)

Upcoming appointments: Well I have another ultrasound and appointment with the regular OB on Dec 24, but just got a call this morning that they do want me to see the specialist for a more in depth ultrasound so I’m now waiting for them to call me and schedule it.

How are you feeling?: physically, mostly okay for being 20 weeks pregnant. But mentally and emotionally I just feel exhausted by pregnancy, life and our living situation, and this entire year.

Rants/Raves: I don’t even know. I’m just bummed I guess that they called me this morning to say after they’ve had extra people review last weeks ultrasound and my pregnancy histories they want to go ahead and diagnose IUGR and have me start seeing a specialist too that’s located in Chicago because of her size.

    Questions:

GTKY: How many kids do you think you want / are you hoping to have? I’m like 101.5% sure this is good for DH!  But we’ve always said down the line when our biological children are older we want to look into being foster parents and possibly adopting. I’m thinking this is my last pregnancy though.

  • Thanks for all the responses, ladies! <3

@theletlers I'm sorry it wasn't news you wanted to hear. Hang in there, mama! You're doing great <3
  • Ahh we're finally getting settled and I can be more active. So sorry to have been so MIA. We are still staying at my mom's and spending every spare minute getting things set up like the security system, cable/internet, fixing the garage door, starting the process for our kitchen reno, furnishing the rooms by ordering online, painting, and now finally putting together furniture. Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: lol no idea

Upcoming appointments: Supposed to have my anatomy scan tmrw but I had a cold (that started 2.5 weeks ago) and told them about it last week during my intake and I still have a tiny runny nose (literally might just be pregnancy rhinitis, I blow my nose 2-3x/day) so they're making me get a covid test "because I've been traveling" even though I have been in the state for 2 weeks. It is no longer at all easy to get a covid test and this has been super frustrating and a hassle, especially because they should have told me this last week so I could schedule it and keep my appointment tmrw instead of calling me Monday night and telling me this almost a week after they knew I had a cold. I tried calling another office to see if I could get in somewhere else (I'd be fine still getting my covid test and what-not, not trying to avoid that or get in any earlier) but I'd miss the window for the anatomy scan waiting for my records to be sent to anywhere new. The incompetence/inability to communicate for this first appointment at the new place is really starting this off on a horrible note for me.

How are you feeling?: Feeling good

    Rants/Raves: See above

    Questions: none for now

GTKY: How many kids do you think you want / are you hoping to have? Likely just 3 but open to 4. Feeling very much like this will be my last pregnancy, though, and very at peace with that if it's the case.

  • @babygirl20210410 back pain is very normal, for me at least, and I've always carried small. It has very much been associated with how active I am (and not like the working out kind of active but the running around doing various household things, cooking, cleaning, picking up my kids, currently everything associated with moving, etc.)

@aisukurimsarang Wow, you wrote out everything that happened for your Thanksgiving communications really well and I am just so confused by "NMIL"

@thedomesticgeek lol I'm on pregnancy #3 and just had my first cough/pee earlier this week. Not a milestone I was thrilled to hit.

@BuckeyeNut05 sous vide turkey sounds amazinggggg! We spatchcocked the turkey this year and it was great.

@bblair24 umm shouldn't the health department be the one to determine who has to quarantine or not. Definitely not up to your husband.

@riff323 now I'm super curious what toy this is lol

@kadeephd oh man with my first when we were team green they had us shield our eyes so many different times like we'd be able to tell and then with my second she had to try forever to find out the sex b/c of the positioning (we're team green but they still need to know for medical purposes for some reason) and they finallllly got it. Also, we will have a bajillion car seats. We only have one car right now but we do have 4 car seats from before we sold DH's car. My mom and sister will likely have car seats plus MIL eventually (although right now they are high risk due to their age so we aren't seeing them).

...will finish responding later. Trying to catch up but nap time beckons for the 18mo.

    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Baby Tracker

  • @bbrahmbhatt my hospital bill with my first on a high deductible plan (so $0 premium and my company put in $$ to my HSA) was a bit under $4k for me and baby (we had that in the HSA which was great) - definitely different than what you would experience through a PPO, though. My OOP max was $5k for me + kids and even with the prenantal care all in one plan year with an Aug baby I didn't hit that - ultrasounds were above and beyond the regular OB bill that was paid with the delivery bill). For baby #2, we were on DH's cadillac plan (not an HSA) so it cost $500 total for me + baby, even with an emergency surgery post-birth for me that required 2 OBs, anesthesiologist, and 2 nurses. I got epidurals both times. I have the HSA this year and am expecting closer to the $4k but definitely keep in mind that with the girls on mine, it's a super low premium (just me is $0 premium if I hadn't added them) with my company giving me free money in the HSA so that's artificially high compared to a PPO. You'd likely be closer to the $500 (it was $250 for the hospital and $250 for the OB) than the $4k, I imagine. But my work offers pretty good insurance - $5k is a really low OOP max for a HDHP and I believe my deductible is only $2,500 (then 10% after that) so all of those will play into it. Sorry for going into so much detail but there's definitely a wide range so hopefully that helps in addition to everything above which is also super helpful to read.

@theletlers I'm sorry about the IUGR diagnosis <3

  • I guess I knew everyone was going to say they had a car seat for every kid for every car.   I was just in denial.  I'll wait until closer to the time we'll need them to buy them I guess so they aren't sitting around taking up space.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kadeephd, We don't. We have one carseat for my car only. SO has a Mustang and carseat and man just don't fit. DD1 has an Acura, and a job locally. She can use the carrier for emergencies. That will change when he gets a new car, but until then... It's just me.

@kvh22 She's like a MIL only NOT because we aren't married, so NotMIL or NMIL (NSIL1 NSIL2)
  • @aisukurimsarang haha I remember you explaining that a while ago when I was more active.

@kadeephd you know what - @aisukurimsarang reminded me that we did the same with only 1 car seat in DH's car but it became a hassle for about a month b/c DD2 needed a convertible and a second convertible didn't fit in DH's mustang. I bought a 4th convertible and we moved it across the country with us but we hadn't used it. You have a while if you're going to be using the bucket/infant car seat for a while. DD2 was small so we didn't need to move her to a convertible until 15months. We put in her in the convertible in my car at 13 months or so (so 2 convertibles in mine) and kept doing 1 convertible + the bucket in DH's. I will say logistically, she was 10 months when covid hit so she wasn't going to daycare while we were dealing with a heavier baby in the bucket. We weren't carrying her in the bucket at 15 months.

    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Baby Tracker

  • @kadeephd we have one car with seats in it for both girls. The other car just has one seat in it. If we all go somewhere, we just take the car with all the seats. If one of the girls has an appointment or wants to ride with daddy or something, then we can use the other car. I don’t think you necessarily have to have two in each car, especially if you can work it out to have the car that you need at home!

I will say there were a couple days that DH forgot I had to go somewhere and he’d take the “family” car to work. So I’d have to tell him to hurry and bring it home so I could leave with the children 😂
  • @kadeephd since DH is working from home we don’t technically need seats in both cars, but I think we will eventually. We just got DS a new convertible car seat because he’s getting too tall to stay rear facing in one we have, so in his car the new baby will start in his old convertible rather than a second base for the infant seat. If we plan on going anywhere she may fall asleep we’ll just take my car so we can carry the infant seat.

How are you feeling?: Better than I expected, but also huge. I already feel like I’m waddling, it’s almost impossible to bend all the way, and I make all kinds of groaning noises if I have to get down on the floor/get back up. And yes, if I sneeze and I don’t prepare myself properly I’m already peeing a little too. Fun stuff. I’m also still super tired, but I’m down to napping 3-5 days a week instead of every day.

Rants/Raves: DS has had a rough month and just the past two days he’s been soooo much better. It’s sad how much my day/happiness revolves around how his is, but as a SAHM he’s 100% a factor in how I’m doing. It was also nice that DH took last week off to help handle all of the tantrums. I think I’m more recharged than I’ve been in a while.

Upcoming appointments: anatomy scan with MFM and regular appt both next week!

How are you feeling?: I always get this awful soreness right under my ribs/upper abdomen and it's officially started. Heartburn has also started. Overall feeling good though!

Rants/Raves: getting more excited about having a 4th boy after buying a few things for him on black Friday!

    Questions:

GTKY: How many kids do you think you want / are you hoping to have? Pretty sure this will be it at 4. My mind feels done, my hubby is def done, but my heart longs for a daughter. Hoping once baby boy is here I'll feel 100% content though.

@kadeephd we have one carseat per kid for my car only. In fact my hubby's car is not even big enough to fit all of us once this baby is born lol. I do stay home with the kids though and very rarely would we both need to drive separately with kids. If we do we just move a carseat.

  • Oh I thought of my question! My tailbone suddenly started hurting every time I sit in a hard chair (like a dining chair). WTF? Google says it happens with pregnancy but of all of the symptoms I don’t remember anyone ever talking about it. It hurts so bad, when I get up I kind of hobble the first few steps.
  • @forevertired this has happened to me with all of my pregnancies. It was so bad with DS that eventually I had to get a standing deal and a yoga ball to rotate between at work. I brought my yoga ball home and have already started rotating that in with a regular desk chair. It helps a little, worth the $20.
  • @kvh22 it's the Little Live Gotta Go Flamingo - basically a ridiculous pooping flamingo! It's funny but kind of gross too. She will love it! Congratulations on your move, too! And hopefully the experience you're having with the new office is just a fluke and they won't be bad at communicating all the time.

@theletlers I'm sorry for your stressful situation, but it sounds like you're in good hands so hang in there!

@forevertired I hear you on how your LO's behavior dictates your mood. I'm in the same boat. It's not easy being a SAHM! I'm glad you got a chance to recharge.
  • @kadeephd oh I guess I will basically say after reading other's responses that it 100% is dependent on whether you and your husband will have to potentially both do pick up and drop off at daycare or something. That was the case for us and why we needed it in both. Once we both started working from home it was really useless to have it in both as the car and both of us were both home so ndb. We are both going to be working from home at least until this baby is born so we don't have immediate plans to purchase a new vehicle BUT our kids also aren't even going to start daycare until September.

  • @juliebird6 glad to hear it’s happened before and it didn’t last forever! I actually have a yoga ball for the playroom so I’ll try that today. Good idea, thank you!
  • Question for my fellow anterior placenta club members: I was feeling some kicks earlier this week. Nothing super regular or strong, just some rumbles and flutters here and there, mostly in bed right before I fell asleep and then first thing in the morning. I haven't felt those as much the past couple days. Should I just chalk that up to the placenta, or is that a concern at this point? I'm 20 weeks today for what it's worth and really just started feeling movement this week. I did feel a couple flutters yesterday and I've been so focused on it today but haven't noticed much of anything.
  • @bblair24 I asked my OB at my last appointment because I was getting worried when the nurses were like "still no movement?" and she said that it is really common to not feel anything until after 20 weeks, and it probably wont be consistent until more like 23-25 weeks. So, based on that I would say chalk it up to the anterior placenta. Also, happy early birthday!
