This round since the hubby really wants to be twam green its different. With our first we had a boy name picked before we were even pregnant and figured we waited till we knew sex to pick a girls name if we had too. Since he was a boy we never thought of other names we liked. This go around we have found a girls name we like but no boy names yet that are stand outs. Thinking we want a name that starts with A.
We’ve had a girl name picked out for a couple of years and we came up with a boy name we both liked before getting pregnant this time so if we have a boy and a girl we’re all set. We haven’t thought up more names because we don’t want to use the mental energy if we don’t need to 😂 So we decided to stick with the two names we have and if we find out we’re having two girls or two boys we’ll think up another name then.
The names we have picked are Eloise Mae and Henry Lee.
My 14 yr old is Ana Mirabel, 9 yr old is Evelyn Sofia, almost 4 yr old is Lucas Kennedy. We have an especially hard time picking names because it needs to fit in both English and Spanish. I am half Mexican, but don’t speak Spanish fluently. My husband is full, and speaks English and Spanish fluently, but his parents speak mostly Spanish. Because of our culture, and my husband and I both grew up with difficult-in-English names, we want the name to be easy in both languages.
Girl names I like for #4
Maya or Maja Cora Nora Mae (my middle name, and May 1 due date) April (will be born in April) Mavis Alma
Yay I love these threads! Already I have a Isabella Grace (Bella - 12), Austin Michael (9) and Rosalee Ireland (we mostly call her Rosie... 4).
We still don’t know what we are having but these are our names for far. My fiancé is half Mexican half Italian so some are very traditional to his family.
Girl
Genevieve
Cecilia
Rory
Margot
I prefer Margot Genevieve, Genevieve is his moms name who likely doesn’t have a ton of time left due to Alheizmers. I really like Genevieve as a first name but I don’t want people to nickname her Jen/Jenny.
Boy
Benicio (I like this but only if I can call him Benny.. I told my fiancé I feel like he would be Mexican drug lord or something if he went by Benicio. I blame the actor Benicio Del Toro and his roles lol)
Leo
Giocindo (Gio would be what we call him.. Giocindo is his grandfathers name)
Max
Theo
I’m not leaning toward any boy one more than the other. I do like Benny and Gio though.
@yellingbanana I'm half mexican too. I don't have a similar issue because I don't really see that side of the family, but I have a funny memory to share. I have a cousin named Joshua and my mexican grandmother couldn't say it. It sounded like Cha-Chi-wa. So he got the nickname Cha Chi from her.
If it's a boy, his name will either be Bennet Adam (my late brother's name) or Bennet Lee or Bennet Leo If it's a girl, her name will be Rosalie Vera or Rosalie Verona (my husband's late grandmother's name)
My daughter is Felicity Joy

@mkc3888 my 4 year olds name is Rosalee, I get so many compliments on it and it’s still pretty uncommon. Usually people always say “oh I have a great aunt named Rosalee” .. it’s ALWAYS a great aunt ha.
Oooo! I've been waiting for the name thread! Our two boys are named Caleb Allen and Owen William. I like names that don't really have nicknames. Plus, I like more classic/known names. As for middle names, they are family names, which we'll carry on the tradition of.
Our boy name is Jonah Blake
We've ALWAYS had the hardest time with girl names! I just don't feel settled on any, but here's our short list:
@yellingbanana I go by my religious name with family and friends, it has a sound in the middle that most Americans can't pronounce. (The throat clearing sound like at the beginning of Challah, or Chanukah, if you've ever heard a Hebrew speaker say those.) So my parents gave me a "easy to say" legal name, but they spelled it funny, so every one still gets it wrong. I do use it for work and doctors and stuff, and appreciate having it. But when we gave DS#3 a name with the same sound in it, we decided not to give him an English version. DH convinced me that "ethnic" names are becoming more popular, and people will be able to get close enough.
@brynn_mamaof4 I was worried about DS#3's name, and actually was leaning towards not using it, even though I love it because it has a very common nickname I dislike, but DH convinced me if we're firm, and insist everyone call him by the full name they will. So far it's working, although he is only 1. (Actually, at his naming ceremony, one of my brothers joked about calling him that, but I shut it down really fast, (they know we're not nickname people) and it has not come up again.)
As for us... This is super long, so feel free to skip... We always use very traditional names that are named after someone meaningful to us, but we don't name after living relatives, so we're running out of boy names... With DS#1 I kept trying to get DH to discuss names, and he kept saying we have time there's no need to discuss this until your 7th month. So finally when I hit 7 months I made him have a discussion and we picked a name. Then 2 days before DS was born an important Rabbi who was close with DH's family passed away. So while we kept the original middle name we picked we replaced the first name with this Rabbi's name. So now DH refuses to discuss names until it's practically my due date. I always tell him that if he won't give me input I'm going to pick the name without him, at which point he reminds me that for our baby naming ceremonies it's always the father who tells the name to the person saying the prayer.
Anyway, as I said we're running out of boy names, so this one will probably be the name that has been our runner up for each of the last boys. Named for two of my great-uncles who were killed in the holocaust, and don't have any living decedents. If it's a girl she's going to be named after my grandmother who passed away in February. But my grandmother's name was a very old-fashioned Yiddish name that would definitely get her teased, so we need to decide on a Hebrew name that means something similar. I have a favorite, but as I said, DH won't discuss, the only comment he had was to remind me it's very similar to his (living) grandmother's name, so if we did use it he would want to get her permission. So I'm trying to be patient, because it's possible that at the anatomy scan I'll find out I don't need to worry about this at all, but it's hard....
We had both loved Sophia if we were having a girl, until the top baby names of the year list came out and I saw it's been the #1 girl name for the past 11 years!! So. we'll have to think of new ones if we have a girl next.
For this little nugget, we're naming him after my grandfather who raised me. We don't do generational numbers after names in my fam, but he would be the 4th. It's a strong Italian name that isn't odd/difficult, but also isn't a super common name these days.
@gusgus14 If you do have a boy and a girl, I just love the sibset!
Other girl names that would go with Odessa and Eloise: Iris, Hattie (short for Harriet), Rose, Ava, Hazel Other boy names that would go with Odessa and Henry: Theo, Jasper, Julian, Reid
@brynn_mamaof4 thanks! I really like Margot, and Leo was on my boy list name!
@mkc3888 that is hilarious! And you know what I mean about not being able to pronounce in one or the other 🤣 Also, I adore the name Bennet.
@mrosek91 when we were deciding names for my son, my Mexican, Spanish only speaking Grandma came to visit for our wedding. It was a big deal, she has only come to our state a handful of times. So when we told her our 3 name choices, she got so excited and told us that her Grandpa, who came from Spain, was named Lucas Montoya. I was so surprised, I didn’t know! So we went with Lucas for our son, and it does feel like a very special name because of that.
@ec1212 we wanted to name our 2nd daughter Sofia, but were discouraged when we saw how popular it was. So it became her middle name.
@brynn_mamaof4 thank you! @texas_t thanks! Those are good options. I also just woke up from a nap where I had a dream that we had a little blonde girl named Marlowe June which I think is cute so I’m going to write it down for later.
My boys are Aaron and Micah. I grew up with a name that some find difficult to pronounce so I like names that aren’t that way. So far our top boy name is Elliot but I made the mistake of telling people. My dad has a strong disliking of the name due to a man with that last name in his younger years. I haven’t told my husband this yet. I just keep looking through names to see if another stands out. I feel like I’ve gotten to know too many people and quite a few of the names I do like have been used. Even the name Elliot has been used by a second cousin of mine but I rarely see them. I haven’t seen him in the last 7 or 8 years.
Our NIPT test says we are having a boy so I’ve ditched thinking about girl names unless something happens and the anatomy scan tells us differently.
@dlynn484 It was on my list last time. It was either going to be Felicity Joy or Rosalie Joy. So the only thing we are picking for a girl this time is the middle name.

So excited about this thread! Already seeing some names in common I’ve loved reading all your stories and reasoning!
For a girl: Cecilia Grace (this is our top name as it incorporates both of our maternal grandmothers!) Alice Margot (also a top name, but our dog’s name is Marco so wouldn’t that be a little weird to force a baby and a dog to learn the difference between Marco and Margot???) Grace (is a favorite of mine but we have a single syllable surname, so I’m not sure if it should be ruled out as a first name option! I love it so so much)
For a boy: William (DH’s dad’s name, but we’d call our baby Liam) Joseph (my dad’s name) Lucas
I could see us combining William Joseph for or Joseph William and calling it a day. I love that both of those names have good nick name options. But overall I’m less creative with boy names and need to give it more thought.
@dlynn484 I love the name Elliott! It was on my list but my husband didn't love it. @brynn_mamaof4 I love Rosalee! So pretty! Is it pronounced Rose-uh-lee or Roz-uh-lee? Also, Cecilia and call her CiCi would go so cute with the other names @yellingbanana Mae is my favorite!! Love it!
@texas_t it is pronounced like rose-uh-lee, like the traditional spelling of Rosalie. I wanted the traditional spelling but her dad absolutely REFUSED to believe thag was the right way even after I showed him lol. He thought people would called her rose-uh-lie 🤣🤦🏼♀️. I let him win that one haha.
I love Cecilia/CiCi! I don’t know how we are going to pick. I’m trying not to think too hard about it until we know what we are having (hoping and feel like it’s a girl but I’d be happy either way). We don’t plan on announcing name or gender to anyone till baby is born, so we may just take a couple days with baby and see who they feel like!
Love everyone’s picks! I was glad we’re having a girl because I CANNOT pick boys names. We didn’t know the sex last time, and still hadn’t landed on a boys name before the birth 😂
My daughters name is Maren, so I’ve kind of been leaning towards M names. Currently thinking Maisie Pearl or Marlo Pearl.
@ckmb_1250 I get asked all the time if I’m a “twi-hard” (twilight fan) usually by younger people. My oldest is almost 13 and when she was born the movies weren’t out yet, and I wasn’t aware of the books. Her name is Isabella but she is 99.9% of the time called Bella.
Then we decided to name my 4 year old Rosalee... I had no clue one of Edwards vampire sisters was named Rosalie 🤦🏼♀️.
It’s all just a coincidence.. I swear haha. The funny thing is I adore the name Alice, but she’s also a vampire sister. I was like absolutely NOT I will not be able to explain my way out of that one or claim “coincidence”. 🤣🤣 it makes me so irritated when someone asks me that
For our first we came up with a boys name but never a girls, so I was glad when he was a boy. Ibwas upset because my husband chose a nickname even before the name and I hate letter nicknames, luckily we don't use it often enough to bother me now.
@yellingbanana We have a hard job, our kids name needs to be easy in three very different languages. English, Spanish and Chinese. When we were looking at girl names, although I'm a big fan of Bible heritage names, I really liked Lili. Super easy in all three languages and very pretty too.
@mkc3888 My first is named Josiah which is as confusing as Joshua and half the time he gets called a combination of the two that sounds more like Joshua. Instead of one name his legal name is Josiah John and his unofficial name is Josias Juan Ho (which I actually prefer because it flows so nicely.)
And talking about parental input on names we did get my mother in law to help with the Chinese names, but we made the ultimate choice. Kind of sounds like Jesse, Jie xi, means hero and hope.
We haven't even talked about names yet, although its referred to as a girl by both of us.
i am shocked DH has even let me have this conversation, but while we're watching TV i go through my lists of names and say "how about XXX," "how about XXX" and get yeses, nos and maybes.
the only name he has suggested (and is growing on me) is Serafina for a girl (Sara for short, which is my middle name). So if we are having a girl, there's a strong likelihood that's a front-runner. However, i love a few more that are "maybe's" for him: Eleanor, Evangeline, Margaret, April, Victoria. After reading through everyone's ideas above, i am going to throw Rosalie/Rosalee out there tonight because i love it! lol
For boys, i am so stumped because we have so many in laws and cousins that "took" names we like. He loves Julian, Leo, Maximilian, Andy (Anders? not Andrew). i dont LOVE any of them, so they're on my "maybe" list.
god i cannot even start trying to think about middle names!!!
@spartan4life I don't dislike nicknames, it's just, I grew up a name that I was never intended to be called and have been called by a nickname my entire life. As a painfully shy child, it took every ounce of energy I had to raise my hand and tell them what name I went by. So, my preference is based on traumatic experience, lololol!
I'm going to be researching B names for girls with baby #2 (if I'm that blessed and forget what first tri was like lol) - doesn't seem to be a ton of them besides the (already mentioned here) Bella. Which I love, but not a Twilight fan lol.
@ec1212 Brianna, Beatrice (Bea for short), Blake, Brielle, Bethany, Blair
Also, y'all, my husband and I took the quiz on this site. Basically, you do the quiz first and it hides your answers, then your husband takes it and then it only shows you the names you both choose. namedtogether dot com
@texas_t there's also an app called BabyName that you can use! It's basically like tinder for baby names You both get the app and you go through and swipe left or right on the names it gives you and it will show you what names you both chose.
