Anybody have any helpful advice for pregnancy insomnia!? I'm dying over here!!! I feel like I've got all the sleep issues, mind is racing, restless legs, hips/legs are uncomfortable, too hot with pregnancy pillow (and add a toddler who has been night-time roaming lately)... I am going to ask doctor at my next appointment but that's until the 1st so any advice in the meantime is appreciated!
@canucklehead123 I suffered so badly from this during my first pregnancy. I don’t really have any tips but totally sympathize. For me I would wake up and be up for 2-3 hours in the middle of the night unable to sleep. I started sleeping on our couch so that when I woke up I could be productive at least (do dishes, work emails, etc). For me it started in early second trimester and lasted throughout the pregnancy. I hope that’s not the case for you!!
@canucklehead123 I had a lot of luck with magnesium during my last pregnancy! I saw multiple benefits, including helping with anxiety. It worked so well I kept taking it even after. I used to get the Magnesium Calm brand in a powder that you mix with a little bit of water and drink before bed.
Has anyone been called back after an anatomy scan to repeat parts of it? My OB called to schedule me for a follow up ultrasound on the spine. He said it's likely due to babies position but the radiologist requested a follow up.
@tiggywiggles this happened with my first. He was not cooperating so they couldn’t see the very bottom of his spine/spinal cord to rule out spina bifida. So I came back four weeks later for repeat US.
@kime783 I was told to repeat 2 weeks after the initial Ultrasound. The clinic called said they can do it today (a week and a half later) or their next appointment is in 3 weeks. Living rurally has its challenges. Thanks for the reassurance.
Thanks @kime783 and @sojoba - I will talk to my doctor about the magnesium - I impulse ordered some pure lavender for my diffuser last night so thinking that will help, and I did a short bedtime pregnancy yoga before I got into bed and that REALLY helped with the restless legs - will need to make that a nightly occurrence.
@tiggywiggles I just had my scan this morning and while everything looks good anatomically, I'll be getting another u/s at my next visit because the baby is measuring in the 21st percentile.
My tech this time warned me that they sometimes call back just because they couldn’t get the measurements they needed @tiggywiggles. Try not to worry in the meantime. ♥️
@hannahcampbell2017 I ended up just taking Tylenol the other day because mine morphed into a total migraine, but I’m trying to figure out if they’re being triggered. Sinus issues definitely don’t help so I’ve been trying to clear my sinuses in the shower with the steam. It’s nasty, but it’s been working, along with trying to drink more water.
@hannahcampbell2017 I used a eucalyptus shower steamer in the shower to help clear sinuses when I was getting my daily early second tri headaches. I also did neck stretching under the warm/hot water. That combo and making sure I’m really well hydrated really helped. I did use the occasional Tylenol too when it went into the migraine realm. My first pregnancy I used a heating pad on my neck and head too.
@hannahcampbell2017 I have no non medical advice sadly. I’ve been getting horrible migraines and I start out with Tylenol but if it doesn’t work I move to fioricet. I prefer to take the one strong pill and just knock out the headache vs maxing out Tylenol every day
@hannahcampbell2017 try a saline rinse. I do it twice a day for my post nasal drip, and it really helps clear out my sinuses (if you find your headache is sinus related).
For the ultrasound a friend advised me to eat something sweet 30min before to wake up baby. That's what they advised his wife because they had trouble getting the measurements. Hope this helps!
Is anyone else having difficulty finding nursery furniture? I want some thing that’s not extremely cheaply made but also won’t break the bank. I’m looking for a little bit of rustic or farmhouse character as well. It just seems when I find some thing parts of the set are sold out. I know there are more people pregnant right now due to the pandemic. Do you think that’s the reason? If you found nursery furniture, where did you purchase from?
I know this isn’t a parenting page, but today at the dentist we found out our 4yo needs a couple fillings and I am wrecked with anxiety over how she will do with the shots and the loud machine & drilling feeling next Tuesday. Anyone have any tips for how to prepare her? I don’t want to scare her unnecessarily but I also don’t want the entire thing to come as a surprise to her.
@kime783 we are reusing most of DDs furniture, but I have been looking for a different dresser for her and baby to share and it has been SO hard. Anything in a pretty wood tone is sold out and I don’t want white again. Everything is either way too expensive or just not in stock. When we were considering a new crib there were a lot of babyletto options on their site but we decided not to spend the money since we have a perfectly fine one not being used right now
@jessd0117 my 2 eldest have both had a filling done. I felt super anxious and guilty like I hadn't been taking care of them. It was super overwhelming at the time. For my daughter we explained everything to her in advance and her dentist was absolutely amazing. Our son is quite nervous by nature so we opted for him to be referred to a pediatric dentist and they used an oral sedation for him. It was the best and only way for him. He wasn't stressed or scared. He drank his special juice at the office and became super calm as he watched a movie. If either of my kids require more dental work in the future I would go back to the pediatric clinic in a heartbeat.
@jessd0117 definitely find a pediatric dentist. We just went through this with my 4 and 6 year olds, and I was so impressed by the care from the pediatric dentist. Both had pulpectomies done using novacaine. I was so surprised at how well they did and how quickly each procedure was.
@kime783 the pandemic has done a number on so many random sectors. Like appliances? 🤨 anyway, no advice but good luck lol. I need a new dresser for DD’s room and I think I’m just going to buy a used one and refinish it because well built new stuff is soooo expensive.
@jessd0117 I know there is a Daniel Tiger episode about the dentist. Maybe you could find a kids tv episode or book about fillings for prep? I’m also a huge fan of @biglittlefeelings on Instagram for all things toddler and they have a whole reel (I think that’s what it is called) on prep for doctors, covid test, etc.
@kime783 I love biglittlefeelings too! We’ve used some of their techniques for the no pressure veggies and it’s surprisingly effective lol
thanks everyone for your advice! She likes the dentist generally and has been to ours a few times already, we’ve been bringing her since she was 2 knowing that she would probably get the short stick as far as dental genetics go. We’re gonna prep her with the least scary words we can find to describe what will happen (a little pinch instead of a shot, for example) and hope it goes well. If for some reason we can’t get her comfortable then we will schedule out to a pediatric dentist and have them put her out for it. DH thinks this is a good example of my own anxiety getting me worked up over something that could (and probably will) go smoothly lol.
Is anyone else not doing regular in person appointments with their providers? I saw my OB on Jan 28 and had a call with him today, briefly. Just confirming my AS looked good and to do my glucose test in 2 weeks. He said to set up another phone call in 3 weeks and he would see me in 6. That means 11 weeks since my last in person appointment and I would be 28, almost 29 weeks. I've had gestational hypertension with my 3 previous pregnancies all of which started between 24-32 weeks. I have seen my OB twice thus far at 10 and 17 weeks. I understand covid protocols change things but this feels wrong.
@tiggywiggles mine are operating as usual. Seeing me every 4 wks up until a certain point then every 2, then it will be every 1. The only thing that's different this time around is my husband absolutely can't come to any appt or u/s. Can I ask where you live that the protocols are so tight?

@tiggywiggles my last appt was and next appt will be over the phone. But I have a BP cuff, doppler, and they provided a few urine test strips so I am 100% comfortable with it. Could you request an in person appt or buy a blood pressure cuff for peace of mind?

@tiggywiggles mine is still seeing me regularly plus I’m being seen in person by MFM. We are allowed one adult with us at our appts too. Everyone has to answer the standard covid questions, get temp scanned and wear a mask. Did they at least provide you with a Doppler and BP cuff?
@tiggywiggles I was seen at 8 weeks in person, 12 weeks in person but for a scan, 16 weeks was a telehealth visit, AS today obv in person, then I have a telehealth visit at 22 weeks, and then an in person visit at 26 weeks. Typically my practice doesn’t have patients come in until 28 weeks, but since I had pre-eclampsia with my last two they want me in two weeks earlier. Like @nopegoat I have a BP cuff at home per my midwife, and she said to call if I have any pre-e type symptoms.
@bntfroggie I'm in Ontario in a very low impacted region. While I dont mind fewer in person appointments going almost 3 months without an in person appointment to me is bothersome. I have pre e history and gestational hypertension which is why I was referred out.
@nopegoat I spoke with my OB yesterday and he told me to come in for my next appointment and Im going to get a cuff and some urine sticks to check between appointments. Having supplies at home will definitely make me feel more comfortable.
@daisy528 Thanks for the information. I appreciate seeing how different practices work. It's crazy how different they all are.
@kime783 I'm glad you're getting your appointments in a way that is predictable. I've never brought anyone to my appointments but I bet I couldn't at this time.
All of my appointments have been in person aside from the very first one which was a phone consult. My DH has been able to come with me to the elective ultrasound we did around 12 weeks as well. We have the anatomy scan next Thursday and DH is planning on attending that too.
Have you expressed any of your concerns with your OB about not being seen in person? I’m sure they are still seeing patients in person so perhaps they would see you for your next one to double check things.
@tiggywiggles, seems super strange to me. They’re quite hands off here so I had an ultrasound at 10 weeks, midwife check at 14, anatomy scan at 19 weeks, and then next midwife check is 24 weeks. So every 4-5 weeks. But she does check baby’s heart rate, BP, and how the belly is measuring at the midwife checks. How else would you know?!
Help for heartburn!! Mine is getting so bad and lasts all day and night no matter what I eat or drink. I worry living off of Tums but that's where I am at! Advice?
@hannahcampbell2017 I’m having similar issue but even tums doesn’t work. I think OB can prescribe something for it but I haven’t asked yet. My next appointment is a couple weeks away yet

I take two Pepcid a day, one in the morning and one at 1pm or so. Then take tums as needed!
@hannahcampbell2017 No advice to add, just wanted to say I sympathize. I just started getting this symptom within the last week and it’s no fun. Hope you get some relief soon!
