What can you eat right now?

The first trimester can be hard to get food down. Sharing really is caring! What foods are you living off of right now?

Re: What can you eat right now?

  • When I had nausea last pregnancy I survived on saltines, ginger ale and sprite. No nausea yet this time, but last time it didn’t start until around 10 weeks.

The only thing I’ve been able to eat consistently is pasta. I don’t have ms yet but I just feel off and not a whole lot sounds good at any given time.

Everything else has changed every couple days. Here’s what I’ve rotated thru:
    - Simple Mills crackers and cheese slices
    - Kind bars
    - ice cream bars (I’m off the almond milk ones but think I could do real ice cream still)
    - a gluten-free cheese doodle type thing that I never want to see again
    - chocolate chip cookies and small pieces of dark chocolate (can’t believe these have turned on me since dark choc is my #1 fave thing)
    - potato chips are currently working for me
ETA: - I’m also into oranges and ate a lot of blackberries today
    - I like natural ginger ale with real ginger and lemon seltzer / that “Perfect Lemon” drink
  • Loading the player...
  • Plain lays potato chips and coke. (I know, not the picture of health, but desperate times here  :D ).

Sliced cheese, ritz crackers, and mini pepperoni, to try and get more protein with my snacks.

Breakfast I’m forcing myself to eat eggs, either scrambled, or fried over hard on a piece of toast. I feel better if I get protein in, but it’s hard to do.

  • Bread, crackers, cheese, rice, pasta, fruits, ice cream. I've been trying to make meals that use ground turkey breast because I can stomach that more than chicken. I was craving panda express last night and as soon as I got home couldn't eat anything other than the rice🙄

  • Fruit (Specifically grapes and strawberries) and crackers and that’s about it. I’ve been really struggling with food this week! Meat and other things are absolutely nauseating to me right now. Haha
  • @SU1989 same with the meat 🤢

  • Pasta, oranges, crackers, grapes, and sometimes a smoothie. That’s it for the past few days. Thank god smoothies are on the list so I’m getting some variance in nutrition.
  • Cheese sticks & apples most consistently. And country time lemonade.
  • Pretzels have been keeping me sustained. Nothing sounds good, except randomly at 3am I’ll crave KFC lol. I’ve been forcing myself to eat well, but it’s just bleh. Although I’ve been guzzling some Suja green drinks lately. Not sure why leafy greens are so appealing suddenly
  • mashed poatoes were my go-to last time, hoping they are this time as well.  my in laws make the most amazing mashed potatoes with regular and sweet mixed
  • Eggs, Brussels sprouts, cheese and whole wheat crackers, and nectarines have been just about all I can stomach. But soft serve vanilla ice cream is all I want, and I want it all the time.

Meat and I no longer get along, and even pictures of it can send me gagging. Even meat words. Which is terrible because I live in Texas and it turns out the word "steak" is everywhere.
  • Yeah, meat makes me queasy.  Eat. all. the. carbs.

I made a smoothie yesterday with a frozen banana, frozen strawberries, and orange juice and it was amazing.  Basically anything tart is good.

  • Salad, crackers, fruit, and soup. Carbs, all carbs are my friends. But I never feel like eating anything. Force feeding myself, which is sad because food is normally my main focus (other than kids, lol).

  • Crackers, cereal, bagels. It keeps changing! Some days I can stomach more but it’s so up and down.
  • @texas_t ooh smoothies are a good idea. I make them for my son with yogurt drink and frozen bananas and any fruit I think is getting too ugly for a toddler plate. I should add on for myself.

I am sadly carb limited because I had GD last pregnancy and despite no signs of diabetes/sugar issues/etc when not pregnant, they want me to be careful from the start this time.
  • @audmomout I’m embarrassed to say that kfc famous bowls were my biggest craving in my last pregnancy haha. It’s all I wanted 😬 so bad lol
  • @SU1989 ohhh that sounds delicious! It’s been so long since I’ve had one of those!
  • I am eating so much cereal right now. There's not a lot that sounds good, and the idea of cooking is unappealing, but thankfully I can still eat most things.
  • @Marz1pan you could do almond milk and frozen strawberries and spinach. Strawberries have a low glycemic index, right? Or any berry really. Maybe add Greek yogurt

  • Oh, food. Don't eat - feel sick. Eat - feel sick.

I am nauseous basically all the time, but what has worked best is ritz crackers and plain toast with butter. I ate a mandarin yesterday and that was about the best thing ever. Pasta and plain broth soup with a few vegies are about the only other things I can manage right now. Smoothies are good.
  • Fresh fruit and veggies, tons of water eggs if I'm lucky
  • Toast. Lots of toast.

  • Skip this if you’re off meat #MeatSpoiler

Y’all, I had a small meatball sub last night (that I only ordered cause this place Potbelly’s had a potato soup I wanted) and it was the BEST THING I’ve eaten in weeks. 😂 Had a whole dill pickle with it and a froyo smoothie and felt so good afterwards. Didn’t even eat the soup I originally wanted. I’m a walking pregnancy stereotype.

Needless to say, animal protein and I are friends again but I’m still not ready to cook it myself. I’ll share ideas for the week in tmw’s thread.

Had a small piece of spinach/goat cheese quiche and bagel bites mini pizzas for dinner and all is well in the world now that I’ve had a couple days off the 100% carb train.

The carboloading had me feeling even more blah/brain-foggy since I’m generally heavy on protein / good fats / veggies and I haven’t wanted any of that for weeks. Hope this lasts but fully stocked on every imaginable carb if it doesn’t.

  • Everything pickled. Each pregnancy, I could just devour all of the of the pickled things; mushrooms, pickles, artichoke hearts, asparagus, everything!! I’m headed to Trader Joe’s tonight and cant wait to grab some goodies.

  • pistachios have been really yummy lately.  I keep a bag of shelled pistachios in my desk and it's easy to grab a hand full between clients.

  • Bananas. I don't even remember the last time I ate a banana "raw" out of its peel, I almost exclusively use them for smoothies or banana bread. I also always have those little GoGo Squeeze apple sauce pouches on hand at all times.

  • All I really want is chick-fil-a’s frozen lemonade. I went twice yesterday.

I’ve been eating a lot of pasta and ramen, but have reached the point I don’t even want that anymore. So ready for this trimester to be over.
  • Lucky charms 😂 I found plain cereal now leaves a gross aftertaste so I needed something sweet in there 🤷🏻‍♀️ Last week I was all about dipping veggies in ranch but this week I’m back to more bland stuff. Bagels, English muffins, plain bread.
  • Any potato. Mac and cheese. Cheez-its. Just plain cheese.

+1 @yellingbanana on pickled things YUM.

I will try to eat just about anything but those are my go-tos right now.
  • Anything I didn’t make... not exactly ideal.

  • I feel like I have to keep something in my stomach at all times or else I get really nauseous. Been living on bagels, cereal, Ritz crackers, potato chips and orange Gatorade. I can sometimes manage scrambled eggs for breakfast and I had Panera broccoli and cheese soup yesterday which was divine.
  • I made cinnamon toast this morning. Been making lots of toast lately, earlier this week it was with pb, banana & honey.

Also made banana bread from a box this morning (Simple Mills brand). Added walnuts to the mix and ate warm with cream cheese. Yummm.
  • @mjacks16 that is the same with me!

  • So, is it possible to OD on unisom+b6? Asking for a friend....

Jk asking for me. One pill of each at night isn’t cutting it.
  • @conchispita I believe you take b6 every 3-4 hours, should say max dose on the bottle. I can’t even rock a full tab of Unisom and be functional the next day so I can’t add anything there. I think some women here are on a prescription plus those so chat with your doc?

I've been living on homemade ramen with sesame oil, hot pepper flakes, and a little bit of soy sauce mixed in... not too strong of a taste and hits the spot. I try to mix in a little bit of fried egg or chicken when I can stomach it. My other go-to is smoothies with frozen fruit.  Most food sounds so disgusting to me right now and I agree with earlier posts- if I don't have something in my stomach at all times, the nausea is overwhelming!
