Re: July Symptoms

  • So I am having terrible headaches/migraines with this pregnancy for the last couple of weeks...any suggestions to help myself? I know to drink a bunch of water, eat regular small meals, and I've used Tylenol sparingly since we're not allowed other pain relief meds. Does anyone have any experience with this? I would love your tips!

@bkinn26 My headaches thankfully didn't last very long (and mostly didn't progress to migraines), but I largely relied on Tylenol to help. If Excedrin normally works for your migraines, you can use Tylenol's tension headache, which adds some caffeine and skips the aspirin (about the same as a cup of coffee, so one dose should be fine). Beyond that I wasn't able to pinpoint a "cause" that I could work on
  • @bkinn26 I’ve been in the same boat. I was trying to avoid too much Tylenol too but my doctor was really assuring and told me not to worry. It’s really the only thing that helps. I’ll also sometimes take a nice bath with the bathroom all dark and some lavender essential oil going (it’s supposed to help w headaches).
  • @bkinn26 a little caffeine and a cold compress on the back of my my neck usually helps. This is my third and I've always gotten bad headaches at the end of the first, beginning of the second trimester.
  • Another vote for a cup of coffee! That always helps my headaches.
  • Leg cramps have started. Ugh! I've been good about my water intake so I'm gonna try eating more potassium and see of that helps.
  • Pregnancy insomnia begins... You don’t sleep after the baby comes and you can’t sleep before! Anybody have any good remedies that don’t include medication?

@nmadjeski After lots of leg cramps in my first pregnancy I have found that a banana a day keeps me from getting any!
  • @nmadjeski talk to your OB/midwife about a magnesium supplement! Can be a life saver. Or like @readermom1 said sometimes the potassium in a banan can help!
  • Anyone else spotting? I’ve been spotting bright red for the past two days. Haven’t had intercourse or a vaginal exam or ultrasound. I went to the doctor today and they said everything is okay but this is my fourth pregnancy and I’ve never spotted even in my first trimester with my other ones so I’m a bit concerned
  • @bartonolivia Did the doctor say what it could be? It could have been something else that irritated the tissue down there even if it wasn’t intercourse. If it’s bright red but everything seemed normal at the doctor, my guess is that would be caused by irritation causing a bleed on the cervix but I’m less familiar with bleeding in the second trimester (pretty sure I learned everything I can about first tri spotting though).
  • @laurenspdx they didn’t say anything at all other than my cervix, baby, and placenta look good. I’m not sure what would be irritating my cervix. They didn’t even tell me what the constant back pain would be! It’s just so weird to me.
  • @bartonolivia I was just reading about placenta previa and how that can cause a lot of spotting/bleeding later on in pregnancy, but your dr would’ve probably said something if you had that?

My lower back is starting to hurt a lot while sleeping. I have a pregnancy pillow but it’s just not supporting much. I’m awake before anyone else because I had to pee and give my dog his pill and can’t go back to sleep.

  • @bartonolivia I’m sorry that’s so frustrating! I guess if they’re not worried about it, that’s kind of reassuring but they really should be giving you at least some information to ease your mind. I hope it stops quickly so you don’t have to be worried.
  • @bartonolivia I hope it stops soon but I’m glad your doctor isn’t worried. Maybe you can call them and ask for more details about why it’s happening.

I had a total blood sugar drop yesterday. I was making something on the stove, felt a little nauseous, 2 seconds later KNEW I was going to throw up immediately so I walked away to head to the bathroom and before I got 3 steps my vision started to go black and I dropped to my knees before fully passing out. My husband was right there and I went and sat down. Didn’t throw up and felt better after I ate. Just scary.

  • @bearmomma1 they told my my placenta was in the right spot and nothing looked wrong. Just so weird to me! I’m glad they’re not worried but I know mother’s intuition can be greater than any medical advice
  • @JBcakes08 that's definitely scary! Glad your husband was home with you! I've had a few lows this pregnancy and man they really hit hard.

@readermom1I’ve been sleeping bad and getting up about 300 times a night to pee for weeks and I’m only on week 17! It’s driving me crazy (I might just be waking up and deciding I probably need to pee but not actually why I woke up)
I bought one of those big pregnancy pillows which is pretty nice  and comfortable it helps a little but doesn’t help with the weird dreams and bladder
  • Is week 16/17 too early to start getting heartburn?
I had it a week or two ago from eating these delicious Thai flavored cashews from Trader Joe’s. But more recently it’s been from nothing out of the ordinary, nothing spicy.   Yesterday was a lot of fruit.  Maybe more than normal..
I swear I haven’t eaten as many Tums throughout my whole life as I have over the last week. (I’ve never really gotten heartburn much before so it’s not like I’m eating them all day every day now
  • @autumn87654321 in my experience (this is my third) it's never too early for heartburn! Tums stopped working for me and my OB okayed omeprazole. I still try to only take it when I absolutely need it. And I really try to avoid triggers for me but a lot of times it not from anything in particular. Hope you get some relief!
  • jchpgjchpg member
@autumn87654321 nope, mine actually started around 14 weeks 😫 my doctor has me taking Zegred OTC. It’s also omeprezole, a daily acid pump inhibitors. If I miss a day I know it right away. We discussed me likely taking this whole pregnancy as it’ll only get worse.
  • Is anyone else suffering from yeast infections? I’m on my third one of pregnancy (I’ve had maybe one before being pregnant). I’m not sure if I’m just not getting rid of it all the way each time or what but it’s so uncomfortable 😕
  • @laurenspdx I’ve had 2 very mild ones but distinct and far apart time wise. So annoying though.

also these headaches that seem to be incurable are killing me and they last multiple days  - I’ve tried caffeine, Tylenol, drinking a lot of water, eating - nothing seems to help for very long.
  • @shelmcclel. Are naps an option?  Sometimes a nap with a cool washcloth over my eyes is helpful for me.

Also are you taking an allergy medicine or decongestant?  I know prior to being pregnant, whenever I had a headache that wouldn't go away for a couple days, it was normally a sinus headache.  Not sure what meds are pregnancy safe for that, but you could always ask if you think it would help.  Best of luck to you!
  • @laurenspdx no yeast infection, but I’ve had and currently have BV. I don’t think it ever fully went away the first time so I’m on another round of meds. I got it last pregnancy too! Apparently it’s super common!

  • @bearmomma1 I also thought it was maybe a UTI? I swear it’s always something now down there! Hoping I can get everything sorted and back to normal :(
  • Heartburn started up for me this week :(

  • @babymakes9 I had some sliced cucumber last night for a snack instead of leftover rhubarb cake. I think that helped mine.  Then I couldn’t sleep. Then I got hungry and then got weird empty stomach heartburn 🤦‍♀️
  • @dobiemom11 laying down definitely helps temporarily, and putting pressure on the part of my head that’s throbbing. I spend as much time as I can doing so, but these are multi-day headaches that have been coming in waves so can’t be all day. I asked my husband (he’s a pharmacist) if I can take a decongestant because I do think it’s sinus related and have noticed my ears feel clogged and I’m stuffy on the days I get the headaches - he wasn’t sure what would be the safest option and suggested I stick with Tylenol until I talk to my Dr, but Sudafed would be the best if i can take it. Going to talk to my OB at my appt on Tuesday. I think at regular strength I can take it in 2nd & 3rd trimester but I want a Drs okay first. Tylenol and a little bit of caffeine do seem to help slightly, but it’s definitely not enough.
  • Insomnia and then I wind up napping when DS naps which doesn’t help for at night but I literally can’t keep my eyes open if I don’t!

Maybe this is a given, but my belly is a little annoying these days.  It can't decide if it's going to be in or out and I'm constantly retying my scrubs, tucking in, untucking, etc to make them stay up and somewhat comfortable.  Sadly the required OR scrubs are all unisex.
  • @jbal918 same! I can’t sleep at night but need to take naps during the day! Goal today is to not nap so I can go to bed by 10pm. Been staying up till midnight the last few nights and regretting it every morning, but even when going to bed at midnight I can’t fall asleep 🤨

  • TMI but this constipation is rough. It came out of no where the last couple of days. I've been taking colace and it helps a little.
  • @nmadjeski I am with you on this. ☹️ I have been constipated pretty much since day 1. I have been taking a probiotic and colace daily and drinking tons of water and it only helps a little.
  • @gingkomama that's how it was with my first but by now it was easing up! I havent tried adding a probiotic but I gonna give it a go! My water intake had been good but I could try upping it too. Hopefully we get some relief soon!

I've been pretty dizzy the last couple days. It feels like the ground (or chair, or bed) is moving like a boat. I did spend the last couple days at my friend's lake house, but I didn't do anything crazy, just some kayaking and floating on a raft. I made sure to eat often and drink tons of water. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with being in the water (I've been on plenty of boats and kayaks before and never had this) or what, but I now have been out of the water for well over 24 hours and it's still on and off dizziness. I'm planning on calling my doctor tomorrow, but the longer this lasts, the more worried I get.

My abdomen always feels so tight....I realize it's probably because it's trying to grow and all, but uncomfortable. Having what I'm pretty sure is intermittent RLP as well. Not terrible, but occasionally really hurts. Is anyone having a bit more difficulty urinating? It doesn't feel quite like a UTI, no burning and I don't have the urge any more than is normal (these days), it's just that when I actually do get to the bathroom it takes more effort for it to actually come out.

@bartonolivia If it helps, my mother had told me she had some spotting in her 5th month, enough that it looked like her period. I don't think she ever knew why, and I was born perfectly fine (though premature). Very scary, though it's encouraging that the doctors aren't concerned.
  • @bartonolivia are you constipated? Straining to go can trigger spotting.
@nmadjeski right there with you! I had the opposite issue with my son, and I am living off miralax. Some of it is the zofran I am sure.
@bearmomma1 azo cranberry chews! I had a perpetual UTI / attending complications with my first and these seem to be helping.
@flip25 it could be a bunch of things. Call your dr! Anything from low iron to BPPV.

Ladies with migraines- try Benadryl. They use it by IV in the ER to treat migraines and omits pregnancy safe!

  • @akoros With you on both counts. I’m feeling a kind of constant achiness / tightness around my uterus that feels just like things are stretching and growing really fast. It also feels like ab fatigue. I really notice it if I try to stretch or when I do any ab exercises. I’m also feeling some painful little kicks sometimes and have had a couple really bad little zaps of RLP.

And for the urination, I’ve had that as well. It takes a while to go when I do go, and then I have to really try to empty my bladder. I’m also having a chronic yeast infection issue that might be affecting it though, too.

Right when my 1st trimester tiredness started to fade I stayed up too late multiple nights in a row.  I need to go to bed at like 8pm tonight to catch up on some sleep.  Or schedule myself a midday nap!
