Bah I wish I would have saved the link, but there was some evidence found that there have been some newborns BORN with antibodies to Covid-19. These mothers were not infected at the time of birth so it likely they had it at some point in their pregnancy and they may have had a mild case or even just been asymptomatic and never displayed symptoms. Either way these mothers were exposed enough to develop antibodies that were passed to their child. So while data is limited, there has been at least some proof that babies are picking up our antibodies to fight this. Until now there was only hope this would occur, no proof that it was ever happening. (I'm trying to post here when I read good news/positive news for pregnancy because I feel like we could all use these reassurances.)
I think it's HIGHLY likely a lot of people have had it without knowing. We know China lied about it, and I'm sure it could have come over much sooner than what people think. I know lots of people, including myself, feel that this was a worse winter, sickness wise, than normal. That includes a friend in New Zealand whose whole family had the "summer flu," as she called it, back in January with fevers and coughs. My kids had fevers this winter and respiratory stuff. And my grandfather had what was diagnosed as walking pneumonia, which has a lot of similar symptoms.
That's amazing! @RedBaramid I agree @coldlife I am one who normally NEVER gets sick, and I was so sick this winter! I remember just coughing and coughing like through most of February, before people were really talking much about it. I remember saying oh, mostly I don't "feel" sick, just can't stop coughing. Then by end of February I had a few days there I really did feel sick, and maybe some stomach symptoms. But even then, late February what you heard about Corona was you would get a cough + fever, get very sick, and then you could die. 😬 No one was talking about asymptomatic or less symptomatic carriers. And I was working in the public around all sorts of people who absolutely were traveling the world so... 🤷🤷🤷 Who knows. That will be something tho if they can start running antibody tests <i>en masse</i>!
So this is a registry/shower question, but Covid specific, so dropping it here. How are you planning to handle shower invites? Send them out in hopes the shower can happen (I moved mine from end of May to mid-June, due the first week of August), or hold on sending them until it's more clear what the situation will be like? Under "normal" circumstances I would send them out second half of April, but I have a feeling we won't really know what June will look like then. I don't know that I can push the shower much later than that b/c of family vacations (which if they don't happen I probably also can't have a shower haha).
I'm also starting to feel like maybe I should buy some of my "must have" items instead of leaving them on the registry. I am planning to buy all of the big ticket items myself, but I've noticed so many things are backordered right now, so waiting to see what gets purchased from the registry makes me a little nervous b/c I worry I won't have time to buy things I need but am not gifted.

@rivercitynik I was discussing timeline with my family this weekend and I think we are going to try to push the shower back a few weeks into July (due the end of August). We had scheduled for mid-June, but given our state/area has the second highest cases in the country, we are thinking this may not be cleared up (not that three weeks would do that much). It's so hard to know!! I think they will mail out the invitations within the normal timeframe and expect not to hear from most folks until closer to the date.
I'm going to hold off on buying most of the must haves until that point, just in case people still want to send gifts (as I think much of my family would still send something). Things I've purchased already are the nursery furniture, minus the rocking/gliding chair, and a bunch of onesies. I'll probably end up purchasing the stroller too since I want the Uppababy and it's quite expensive.
I remember a few people mentioning the glider they really liked, but cannot remember which one it was.

@rivercitynik I haven’t put much thought into a baby shower at all if I’m honest. I have though recently been thinking about completely holding off on a shower and doing a “sip and see”. I’ll be sending out baby announcements (which I really need to get on) And I’ll most likely mention the registry in it, along with a “Sip and see date TBA”. We’ll be buying all of our main necessities for baby as it is, any family whom already know about baby and wants to buy something will More than likely just let us know ahead of time and pick out what they want to gift. Which I’m fine with. With such unpredictable times, I’m hoping that mid/late August 🤞🏼 We’ll be “allowed” to have social gatherings and having a baby to celebrate/show will just be that much more to celebrate about on top of all being together after all this!
Also, I absolutely hate being the centre of attention so if baby is physically here all attention will be on him/her lol 🙈.
@rivercitynik A shower wasn't going to happen for me regardless because we don't have family or friends where we live.. but after we find out the sex on Wednesday I'm gonna fill out my registry with the things we've been holding off on adding and send the link to the family and friends who have expressed desire to send gifts. I think given the world and the circumstances, everyone will understand you holding off on sending out invites, and may be more interested in a post baby sip'n'see type of shower anyway.
We are prepared to buy all of the big stuff ourselves anyway but we just kind of decided to not move (we decided that moving a pregnant lady during a pandemic wasn't optimal and we'll save on rent anyway by sticking it out for a while longer) and to renew our lease for 9 months so our list will be essentials only and we'll be doing what we can to save space.
@rivercitynik I'm also due at the beginning of August and we just moved my shower from 5/30 to 6/27. I live in NY (state, not city) and we're expected to have a peak in the next 2ish weeks, so I hope things are looking better by mid-late June. I know my mom is worried about when to send out invites, but I think most people will be extremely understanding if there isn't as much head's up time as usual. I think her current timeline is to order invites in late April and send out mid/late May. I'm assuming she'll also text people the date ahead of time as well.
I posted in the randoms thread, but the dresser I want for the nursery is currently out of stock on BBB and I can't find it anywhere else. The lovely person I talked to through their online chat (and then spoke with on the phone to order the dresser) said they had about 50 in stock, so I'm not sure what happened as I just got an order cancellation email. I have a sneaking suspicion that they're not sending out stuff for delivery because of Covid. I wish I had thought to order it sooner though.
In regards to invites; my dad is retiring this year and we had planned for a May party. We notified everyone it’s postponed and notified a tentative save the date and we’ll send out invites once it gets closer. I’d do that if I were you. Do a generic Facebook notification and send invites as it gets closer.
I’m personally really sad. I hD a baby shower for my first but lived over seas. I flew my mom in but my sisters, cousins, aunts, bffs since I was a kid were not there. We were going to do a no gift necessary shower because I wanted the experience with my family (we are really close) but now it looks unlikely. My mom and sister are going to a reunion the last week and a half of July and between a cousins grad party, my dads retirement party and 4th of July I don’t know when we’d do it if we ever can by that point. I know it’s not the end of the world I just wanted to play games my family and have that fun with them. We did a “meet and greet” with my daughter when her and I were home for summer so for those thinking of a sip and see those are fun. (Eta. I’m pretty against second baby showers which is why I wanted a no gifts please. It is what it is 🤷♀️)

@charhar0820 Agreed on being the center of attention! My family threw me a surprise wedding shower while I was in Cleveland visiting a few months before my wedding, and it was extremely thoughtful of them, but man I hated sitting there opening gifts by myself in front of people.
My mom has mentioned having a baby shower for me over Zoom, but not sure what that would entail? I haven’t even put a registry together. At least half of everyone in our close families is losing income right now, so I don’t like the idea of them feeling obligated to buy us things, even though I know some of them are excited to.
@charhar0820 I feel the same about being the center of attention. The morning of my bridal shower I was almost in a panic attack. Even the ride there I just couldn't stop sweating and felt such anxiety over everyone looking at me. I'm so awkward.

@viola_mama isn’t it just such an awkward thing to do?! @ziggymama06 Same!! Ugh, I dreaded it. I think I tried to get out of my own bridal shower by saying I had to work 😂. The worst, opening gifts and also having all the bows, banners, pinned all over me. *cringe*. Pass the wine/spiked punch!!! 😂
Just found out one of my employers is already cancelling a production in June that I was really looking forward to. They’re still paying a percentage of our contract, but I’m super sad it’s not happening. 😥 I guess I’m also a little glad I won’t have to worry about being so close to so many people, but I was so hopeful that June would still happen.
Not sure if this is the right discussion or if it is worth opening up a new one. I had a lot of things planned out in terms of birthing classes, breastfeeding classes etc - obviously everything has been cancelled due to the virus situation. Are there any good online tools out there, that you guys can recommend? I saw some online birthing classes, but I was not planning on spending $ 200-300 on that.
@strawberryfields82 I know for the birthing class I was looking into, it’s something that they wanted women to sign up for in their 3rd trimester. I know it’s definitely unlikely but maybe by that time classes would presume? If not, maybe check in to where you were looking into to see if they could suggest online support or see if they are doing something along those lines? I’d be interested as well!

Also, I’m officially laid off from work. It’s a job I started in October as a casual, I won’t have enough hours for maternity leave. So that’s fun. 😖

I went to the MW today unexpectedly (everything is ok and posted details in the symptoms thread). The process they have in place was great. I called when I arrived from my car and the room wasn't ready yet, they called me back in less than 5 mins to go in. I went in directly to the restroom to leave a sample, then straight into the exam room. The nurses and MWs had masks on. I asked if I can videocall MH next week at my AS and they said that was not a problem, just no recording video. When I left I saw the nurse spraying Lysol in the exam room next to me. Glad they are taking these precautions and disinfecting everything.

@charhar0820 Oh, wow, I’m in NS and they’ve started to fine people that they’re seeing in parks and on beaches (all are closed tot ge oh mix now) - $700. Serves them right. Annoys me that some individuals think the rules don’t apply to them.
I’m sorry that you were laid off and now won’t qualify for EI for mat leave. That sucks! Make sure you apply for that emergency benefit / $2000 per month for the next 4 months, at least it’s something... maybe it will even be extended for a few more months?
@laur84ns Yes I think the CERB is from March - October. I’m definitely going to apply if I can, I’m just trying to get my stuff ready to do so. I’ve never been laid off before or had any sort of government assistance so, I’m quite lost and of course it’s absolutely impossible to get ahold of Service Canada.
I’m thankful MH is still working his job is considered essential.
I had also just heard that there will be a curfew in effect! Everyone in their homes by 8:30pm!
I'm employee with the hospital network I will be delivering at so I've been able to get the notifications for updates in policy before they are released but it seems the policy has changed since Friday so I will be alone for my anatomy scan tomorrow... The hospital will also not change their policy on no recording or facetiming during the A/S. I've been a mess all day.
@strawberryfields82 what kind of class are you interested in? I know our hospitals do a lot of free or low cost classes (birth, infant basics, breastfeeding, etc) and have moved them online. Have you checked that? I actually had a good cry over this the other day because I was planning to take a four week birth class through my doula and those have moved online through the month of June (and given my due date I don't want to wait until July). I was really looking forward to getting to meet other moms, and though the classes will be live I don't think it will be the same. As an FYI, the online version of their class still costs the same as the in person one ($250), so if you were looking for something more intensive than a hospital class it might still be in that $200-300 range.
@rivercitynik Yes, I was thinking about a hospital class, but in an online setting. Our hospital does offer their program as online class, but it looks super "stale" and I was hoping to find something that is really geared towards learning from home. If that makes any sense.
I am in the same boat with you - I was looking forward to meeting other future moms and to connect. The last couple of weeks have been pretty isolating in that aspect. This community has been my only connection to other pregnant women.
@mrswheeler812 I am sorry, its such a bummer. I think most places are doing the "no partners aloud at the office" anymore at this time. I have my AS in a week and will be alone as well. I know it really sucks but we are all in the same boat with you, hang in there! Tell them they better get some extra perfect little print outs to take home to your SO!

FTM here, due Aug 15 (team green). Just wanted to say thank you to everyone on here, it's helped me to read everyone's posts. I've been feeling upset every time I try reading my pregnancy books because there are so many references to things that we can't do right now/are uncertain if we will be able to do because of the health crisis. I needed to hear from some other people who are going through the same thing... so thanks and stay well everyone.
@babybug815 There are many ladies here who feel the same way. As of recently, this has been a scary time to be pregnant, and being able to come here daily and get to know everyone, relate to experiences that are similar to my own, as well as learn from those that are completely different has helped me tremendously. I hope that you will stick around, as this is a wonderful group of ladies who have lifted me up many times when things felt like too much. I walked down to my post office to check the mail (beautiful day!) only to find a note on the door saying they are temporarily closed due to someone needing to be tested for COVID.
We now have to drive 25 minutes to get our mail in another town.
I live in a very small town, it use to be a gas station, mail, and automotive shop. the owners of that building have shut down the gas and just keep the post office and shop running. I noticed the last few times I’ve been there the usual lady who works the post office hadn’t been in for a couple weeks. It was the wife & daughter of the owner Doing the mail.. Turns out, it’s the wife who is in hospital and being tested. I can’t help but wonder if I could have picked it up because she possibly contaminated our mail by sorting it? I’ve been sneezing a lot but I’m 99.9% sure it’s because of the weather. 🥵
@charhar0820 A friend of mine shared this with me, and I think it's a great sanity check for anyone feeling anxious! ❤️ Sneezing is most likely allergies or a common cold, and I've been able to chalk up most of my aches and pains to general pregnancy symptoms, and that's helping me calm my nerves a bit. aches and pains I had last week when I had other symptoms. They were quite different
from pregnancy aches and pains and felt like the aches I had when I had flu
years ago. The pain was really focused in my joints, mainly my hips and didn't
get any better with changing positions, stretching, moving around, etc. I also hadn’t
had any pregnancy aches and pains yet and since then I've gone back to being
free from aches and pains. I hope that helps.

as my husband works for the NHS and I'm also a key worker we'll be able to get
an antibody test at some point to find out if we've actually had it.
I’m almost convinced I’ve already had it if I’m honest. I rarely get sick but in January I had the worst clod/flu I’ve had that I can remember that lasted for min 2 weeks. I thought maybe it seemed so awful because I wasn’t medicating and being pregnant as well. My husband had some symptoms as well. At the time I never would’ve thought it could be COVID19, it hadn’t effected us here yet.
Looking at that chart, hearing people’s personal symptoms - I think there’s a possibility I’ve had it.
I think we'll find in time that a lot of people had it without knowing. One of my friends swears she did. @cornichonmam I'm glad you are feeling better!
I had to take a break from this thread for a little bit; my MIL was diagnosed last week and it spiked my anxiety something fierce. We hadn't seen them in over a month so no risk of exposure, but still hard and I was worried for DH too. Thankfully she seems to be on the mend now.
So now that the CDC is endorsing and encouraging people wearing homemade cloth masks in public, anyone wanna share pictures of what they've made with bright colors or crazy DIYing? My husband is gonna pull my machine down for me tomorrow and the fabric box out for me so I can finally put together at least 4 pretty quickly for us to be able to rotate and wash/sanitize between uses. I'm gonna feel a little weird the first few times I use one of these, but I'm trying to remember that it's only "weird" in my culture to wear a mask in public, many other cultures wear them all the time.
@samsonator - I think the rule is for if something is discovered or if they say one thing at one appointment and it changes at the next they can't be sued. I'm not sure though. @maelove - I did get some great shots! It was kind of fun to be able to go home and surprise him. I considered waiting to know until I was home with him but it was VERY obviously a boy on the ultrasound when she went to measure his legs! At the end of the day I know I will have other ultrasounds with this one so I'm trying to let everything roll off my back right now.

@cornichon The Boris Johnson news made me nervous as well. I think it’s from knowing that he is getting the absolute best care and still has had a decline of sorts. Very rattling for me.
