FFFC - I've got my AS later today and am not really working this morning (a little from home for main job, a little on other projects) and am fully binge watching this new delightfully garbage-y show on Netflix "Love is Blind".
@pocketrose yes! I need some additional scandalous behavior in my trash TV. I use it as incentive to go to the gym because I watch it when I use the bike/elliptical. 😁
DH’s text messages go to our shared iPad. I read them not because I don’t trust him, more just because I’m nosy. He and his friends talk about the dumbest crap
I definitely judge people's registries. Mostly wedding registries, not so much baby. For example, we're going to a wedding next month, and they have 11 wedding-specific picture frames on the registry. Why tf do you need that many frames that say "Mr. & Mrs."?
You know the benches you put at the foot of the bed? Well MH went out and bought (for 100$) this ugly foot stool to put at the end of our bed.. It doesn't match anything in our room and we have recently had VERY serious discussions on how he needs to control his spending on things we don't need. He asked what I thought and I said I thought it looked stupid to have a footstool that doesn't match anything in our room at the edge of our bed when he could have just used any old piece of unused furniture we have around the house (plenty to choose from).
Anyways my confession is that it's been very helpful with getting my socks on. But I'm still acting sour about it.
@stlbuckeye132 I openly judged my SIL's so hard. They had freaking DOG TOYS on there. I asked her why she put that on there and she was like "why DIDN'T you put dog toys on yours?"...uhhh because they aren't household items? She was like well they save my house from chewing....her whole wedding and prep was so extra, that was just the cherry on top for me.
@stlbuckeye132 I'm the opposite... I don't really judge wedding registries but I totally judge baby registries. Like, really? You think you need that grape cutter? THAT is what you think is going to be crucial for raising your baby? You're gonna be made when you have 3 grape cutters but have to go out and buy a rectal thermometer the first time baby's sick lol
We got married a little less than 2 years ago. We received five (5!) wooden wall hangings with variations of “our last name + Est. [wedding date]”. Etsy has made this stuff so trite to me. We also received similar gifts that were functional (cutting boards, wine glasses, etc) and those I don’t mind. But just decor? Sigh. All gifts are appreciated but not everybody does that same wooden wall hanging aesthetic. We hung one up because it’s the least gaudy but the rest are just piled in the basement. 😂
@b_1029 omg yes! I've seen some with things like gaming consoles and stuff on them too... really??
@blaf322 lolololol ok if I saw someone with 3 grape cutters on their baby registry, I'd side eye for sure. I do tend to roll my eyes when I see baby registries with all of the over the top expensive gadgety type things, but for the most part when it comes to baby registries I'm just like, "eh, first time parent, they don't know what they will/won't need yet."
@rachelredhead to that point, I really judge people who don't stick to registries. One of my friends refuses to buy off a registry. And I'm like, "but the person is TELLING YOU what they need! Get them what they want/need!" I totally understand maybe getting something off the registry and putting thought into another, rogue, gift. But, come on... that new mom registered for a white noise machine. Don't get them a teddy bear that also plays soothing forest sounds just because you saw it at Marshall's and liked it.
@blaf322 ha! Yup, totally agree. I tend to buy someone one thing off the registry (for wedding or baby) and if I’m super close to the person I’ll do a rogue gift, too. Unless it’s on the registry (or I knew the person really well and knew their decor style) I wouldn’t send any kind of decor. That’s what I thought was weird about the pile of wooden wedding wall hangings. Only one of the people who sent the gift had been to my house in the last year+. So they were just guessing as to aesthetic. And most were dead wrong on how I decorate. 😂 I’m SUPER picky about fonts and if you think for a second I’m hanging something with Comic Sans in my house...you do not know me.
@rachelredhead I have some friends that are super picky about fonts too and I. Don't. Get it. hahaha I mean, it's obviously a thing b/c I know several people who are picky about it lol
@stlbuckeye132 i tooooootally judge wedding registries too. my BIL is getting married in April and they posted their registry and the first thing on it was a plunger, which sure, having one is important, but on your wedding registry? go buy one for $10 at target yourself. (though now I really do want to get him the plunger and be like "everytime you have a clogged toilet, you get to think of how grateful you are to me for buying you this plunger" hahaha). they also have on there: - a kids board game that is $70: like, its exclusively for 10 and under and they dont have any kids yet....? - a $356 vacuum - a restaurant-grade flat top grill - not sure why that's necessary? - an ugly AF apron that has some weird saying on it? see spoiler for photo
@blaf322 im probably one of those FTMs that has a registry that you would cringe at haha....i have a ton of clothes on there, but honestly, its mostly because i have certain types of baby clothes that i prefer. MH and i both hate baby clothes that are super branded - like, that have a giant Paw Patrol image on it or has like a ton of Disney characters all over it. when our kid is old enough to have a favorite show or whatever, they can get stuff like that then. and i generally dont like onesies and stuff that say things like "mama's bestie" or "the princess has arrived" or "my uncle is the best" or whatever. just get me stuff with normal patterns, some solids, and we're good to go, haha.
i am also super picky about fonts! i cringe at some of them. comic sans, papyrus...gag me.

@knockupthestock I don't judge the expensive vacuums and such b/c they'll get a completion discount after they're married. So maybe they want that and if someone gets it for them, great! If not, gift cards and completion discount to make it cheaper. Plus, your registry is the time to register for the nice stuff you'd never buy yourself on a regular day!
Re: your registry... I don't put clothes on mine, but to each his/her own! No judgement there! I will say, pro tip: save all those clothes you get that have the stupid characters and sayings (I also reeeeally hate the "daddy's princess" shirts and stuff) to use as your extra daycare clothes. My MIL basically provided all of DD's extra daycare clothes (for use after she has blowouts and such) for the first year or two. She has horrible taste
I will say, I do love a onesie or shirt with funny stuff on it. Like one I've got that says "I'll have a bottle of the house white" with a baby bottle next to it. It still cracks me up
I’ve been throwing myself a pity party for a few days. I think I’ll carry it through the weekend and then start to act like an adult. 😆
Also I think it’s an ingenious feature that my iPhone can track how much time I spend using it, but I also think it’s the worst idea to tell me what I already know - that I spend far too much time on it. 😆
@stlbuckeye132 your post reminded me that in the house we are buying, the current owners PAINTED "Mr & Mrs" in script above the bed in the master bedroom. Like ok, they got married and were excited to be mr and mrs... whatever. Just hang something above your bed! Don't paint it! To make it more ironic, DH and I are married but I'm not a Mrs, so even if it wasn't totally cheesy it's really got to go. I'm just annoyed that now we probably will have to paint the entire wall unless they have a can of the paint laying around in the basement and decide to leave it...
ETA I guess my FFFC is that if you paint "Mr & Mrs" above your bed then I judge you
I went in with some girlfriends for a friends baby shower gift tomorrow, but then I went into Target and spent an additional $75 on baby girl clothes for her. In my defense- my 7 year old son loved all of the girl clothes and suckered me into a gift JUST FROM HIM because "Babies. LOVE. Unicorns." This is why my budget is a disaster.
Somebody got DH and I a huge wedding frame that was engraved with our names and wedding date, and it was white/silver/bedazzled crap that I would never, ever use. I felt slightly guilty but it laid on our dresser for 6 months before I just threw it away because it is not something we would ever actually use. It is a waste of $$ to shop off registry for junk like that.
I’ve switched to exclusively giving people money for weddings. Registries feel so impersonal to me - and I feel like they often have a ton of random stuff on them just so there’s enough options for all the guests, whether the couple wants that much stuff or not. And I don’t go off registry because people get annoyed by that. I’ve never heard of anyone being annoyed by money.
ETA: I do make a point to give super personal and creative cards though. Mostly because it’s a hobby of mine, but I feel like a handmade card and long personal message adds more thoughtfulness than I could convey with most gifts.
Fffc: I love my job. And helping moms. But if you don’t help me help you. And continue to scream instead of listening to what I’m trying to tell you to help. Then I wont even try to help you anymore. (Unless the situation requires me really needing to help, I won’t neglect) I am so thankful I got to say bye Felicia because I almost wasn’t able too.
@nursejenn5 I am borderline obsessed with l&d nurses and basically fall in love with all of mine. I just can’t believe how much stuff you guys do, how you stay calm through it all, and absolutely nothing fazes you. And my favorite one ever was the one that would walk into the room and just yell at me (nicely but directly) when I was using too much energy yelling myself, during labor, instead of using the energy to breath. I can’t imagine screaming at any of you!
My fffc is that I am NOT into 3D ultrasounds - the babies always look weird and lumpy to me! I’ve never gotten one because I know I’d just be upset at however my baby looked in it. 😂
