Re: J20 Weekly Check In 2/3/20

  • EDD/weeks+days: July 11; 17+2

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: the plan is team green, but I'm starting to second guess wanting to do that!

Baby is the size of a(n)/fun fact: game console controller

    Upcoming appointments: AS 2/24

How are you feeling? pregnancy-wise I'm fine, but this cold/maybe sinus infection is still kicking my ass

Raves/Rants: I'm so annoyed with this baby because I still haven't felt it yet! I started feeling DD pretty consistently around 16 weeks, and MH felt her move by 18 weeks. I still haven't felt this one.... I know I felt her early, especially for a FTM, but UGH!

Questions: Fellow team green-ers, please tell me all the reason why being team green is awesome and I should stick with it?! I was team green with DD and had no doubts about wanting to do that. Idk why I'm second guessing it this time!

GTKY- Do you have any superstitions? Nothing major comes to mind, but @blaf322 we do the same thing. I can be so annoyed with MH and bickering right before falling asleep, but we still angrily say, "I love you" to one another.

  • EDD/weeks+days: 7/16, I am 16+4

    Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Green

Baby is the size of a(n)/fun fact: Soda can!

    Upcoming appointments: 2/21 Anatomy scan

How are you feeling? Definitely more energy and fewer aversions. Not sure on nausea/vomiting

Raves/Rants: I dont know what I did with my unisom when I packed to come home from our weekend in the Dells, and I didn't  realize I didn't have it until I went to bed last night around 10. So I'm hoping I'm ok today, but it could be rough this afternoon and evening.

Questions: If you have a home fetal doppler, where did you purchase it? Everything I see on Amazon requires a business account or medical license. Also, I thought I was feeling movement pretty regularly for a few days (3/4 days) but now it's been a week and nothing. I'm getting worried even though I've had no other concerning symptoms. I know it's still early, the logical side of me knows that, but I'm still nervous. This is the reason I'm wanting the home doppler.

GTKY- Do you have any superstitions? I dont really think I do.. but like you guys @blaf322 we always give a quick kiss and and "I love you" before falling asleep. Also, DH drives an hour to work every day and he always messages me when he gets there. I would be worried sick if he didn't let me know he made it.
  • EDD/weeks+days: 15+

    Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: FO

Baby is the size of a(n)/fun fact: Newborn bottle

Upcoming appointments: cervical check with the lovely vag cam on 2/10, but they said they would tell us the gender then as well. And then anatomy scan 3 weeks later.

How are you feeling? Still rough. Forgot the unisom on Thursday, threw up all day Friday. I keep thinking I should be past this, but apparently not.

Raves/Rants: I’m in the regular pants hurt my belly but maternity pants don’t fit because I don’t have a bump awkward stage. I feel like all I wear is sweatpants because it is the only thing comfortable that stays on. Thankfully I wear scrubs to work.

    Questions: none

GTKY- Do you have any superstitions? I hold my breath when going through tunnels or under bridges. I don’t know why, I just always have and do!
  • EDD/weeks+days: 17w1

    Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Blue

Baby is the size of a(n)/fun fact: Vintage wallet (lol, read a "millennial themed" sizing and it was dumb but also funny)

Upcoming appointments: Wednesday, will probably schedule AS then

How are you feeling? Fine most of the time, just tired and bloated

Raves/Rants: UGH so I don't have kiddos yet but I take my friends kids to school and make them breakfast/make their lunches. Last week we decided to theme the week and start with milkshake (smoothie) Monday. Well apparently it was too cold, chunky, and seed-y and after I microwaved and strained this smoothie for the 8 year old he/his brother likely dropped it on the floor. Milkshake/smoothie Monday is super cancelled, we'll see how Breakfast Taco Tuesday goes tomorrow.

    Questions: N/A

GTKY- Do you have any superstitions? I love to say "Rabbit Rabbit" at the beginning of the month for luck!

@pocketrose I do NOT get the rabbit rabbit thing. Can you explain? I always mean to ask my friend about it b/c she always does it. It seems so odd to me!
  • @pocketrose we also say that!! My dad sends it out in a text at the first of the month, and if he misses we all call him out.
  • @pocketrose I had a HS teacher who told me about the rabbit thing, but he said to say it 3 times! Interesting you say it twice.
  • @stlbuckeye132 My friend also says it twice
  • @blaf322 I don't remember where I heard it at this point! I think I read it in a book as a kid and it's akin to a rabbit's foot being lucky? Basically, it's so one has a lucky, good month.

@stlbuckeye132 I have heard of folks who say it three times, perhaps for extra luck!
  • I am liking this combined thread.  We are a smaller group compared to some months so it's nice to see this thread up and active on Monday.
Unfamiliar with rabbit rabbit but I did have a series of habits I would do when I was on teams in high school.
  • @rachelredhead now I want tacos. I mentioned it in my update, but I felt DD early with my first pregnancy. First flutters were around 14 weeks, semi-consistent movement by 16 weeks. My OB told me that was very early, especially for a FTM, to feel movement, so I was lucky. This time I'm 17+ weeks and have felt a whole lot of nothing. She asked at my 16 week appt if I'd felt anything, and I told her I'm in the "was that baby? no, i think it was gas" phase, and she said that's very normal and to expect feeling consistent movement by 24 weeks. Not what you want to hear probably (definitely wasn't what I wanted to hear!), but hopefully that gives you some insight.
  • @rachelredhead Thank you! I just ordered and it should be delivered by Wednesday! As for movement, it was like 18-20 weeks with my first. My last one was super early, like 14/15 weeks, so I'm nervous about not feeling anything yet at this point (16+) but there are so many things to consider. Such as if you have an anterior placenta or baby's position. Plus, some babies are super active and others really aren't.
  • Thanks @stlbuckeye132, at least that helps me feel like nothing negative is going on. Just anxious to feel those flutters! Remind me of this statement when he’s punching my bladder at 3 am in a couple months.
  • EDD/weeks+days: 7 July/almost 18 weeks

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: team green but @stlbuckeye132 I agree I kind of what to find out just for me this week...ehhh I’m going back and forth too

Baby is the size of a(n)/fun fact: croissant (mmmm carbs)

Upcoming appointments: 6th for regular OB, and hopefully I can come off bed rest, AS on the 18th

How are you feeling? Holy heartburn, Batman. Other than that, just all the lovely side effects from the medications / hopefully staving off that pre-e

    Raves/Rants: nope

    Questions: nope

GTKY- Do you have any superstitions?
i have a lucky scrub cap. No shame here, if it’s a hard case or I’m nervous...on it goes!
  • @footdrbritt I feel like what I want changes every day. Like yesterday I felt strong in being team green, then today I'm back to "I want to know!" Ugh. MH really doesn't want to find out, and I was split about 50/50 so I agreed to team green since he felt strongly. But now as the AS gets closer, I'm afraid the part of me wanting to find out is getting bigger and bigger. I know if I talk to him, he'd be fine finding out if I say that's what I want to do. I want to stay strong for him, but.... ugh. Idk what to do. Did you find out with your other(s)? (I can't remember now how many kids you have, but I'm pretty sure you have at least one already?)
  • @footdrbritt has work let you actually go on bed rest yet?
  • @stlbuckeye132 my husband wants to know...which makes this so much worse.
Oh we found out super early with DS, I wanted to know. This time I’m so torn. Maybe I’ll convince the doc to sneak a peak Thursday and just keep it to myself?! I’m with you, I’m just not sure!
  • EDD/weeks+days: July 14th/17 weeks tomorrow

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: finding out at anatomy scan

Baby is the size of a(n)/fun fact: avocado+

Upcoming appointments: Just had my reg OB appt this morning, and scheduled my AS and next appointment for the first week of March. Feels so far away!

How are you feeling? Much better. Almost "normal." @s@stlbuckeye132 the cold turning into sinus infection was what happened to me, and if you think that's what's happening, go get those antibiotics! It took a bit for them to kick the nastiness out of my system. And to those wondering whether to stop diclegis/unisom, I stopped about a week ago and feel like that could be partly why I have more energy during the day. It's definitely not because I'm getting more sleep lol. I'll still occasionally feel a little queasiness in the evenings, but way more manageable and doesn't stop me from eating/knock me on my ass like it did 2-3 weeks ago.

Raves/Rants: I really like my OB practice. I switched to them when I was a few months postpartum. There was nothing "wrong" with my old practice, and in fact, the two practices are associated with each other and they round together (or however that works). My old practice was attached to the hospital and often had the feel of getting you in and out as quickly as possible. Luckily, my pregnancy and delivery were pretty routine so no one was any worse for the wear, but I couldn't help feeling like I got lucky and if there had been complications, I worry I may not have felt heard. This new practice really takes its time with patients and has an overall better feel. We will see!

Questions: At my appt this morning, the midwife asked me about the screening for spina bifida indicators... it's a blood draw that they apparently do around your AS... I don't remember doing it last time. She said it's kind of a toss up and some people choose not to do it because it has a higher than normal rate of false positives, which would then lead them to do an amnio to confirm... I'm usually the kind of person who wants to do allllll the tests but she kind of seemed to be talking me out of it... she said that obviously if anything comes up on the AS then they refer to MFM anyway... anyone have any thoughts?

GTKY- Do you have any superstitions? I say "knock on wood" and I knock on wood. That's probably it!

@st@stlbuckeye132 tagging you again but SAME on the movement! I felt DD very early at 15 weeks and it was like tiny little muscle spasms on my lower abdomen that then grew stronger. Like a little "knock knock" above my pubic bone. This time, there's been a couple instances where it's been more like what people describe as your stomach dropping or whatever, but could easily just be something else... still waiting...
  • @meanjellybean my OB brought up the same testing for spina bifida at my last appointment. She also told me it does have a higher risk of false positives, I think that's something they just have to tell you. I ultimately decided to hold off on doing it unless things don't look great at the AS and then we'd go from there. I just know if I was told I have a 1 in 150 chance of the baby having spina bifida (which is considered "positive" but also... still a pretty low risk considering 149 times out of 150, baby is fine), I would fixate on that for the rest of my pregnancy and be really worried. I did the same with DD (she looked it up because I couldn't remember), and since everything looked fine with the AS I didn't do the testing. Just my two cents on my logic.

I first heard of Rabbit Rabbit bc Sarah Jessica Parker always posts it on Instagram.

  • @stlbuckeye132 your logic actually helps a lot! I was leaning towards not doing it anyway based on what the midwife said. I'm not a very anxious person but getting a false positive (and you're right a 1 in 150 chance is a pretty shitty "positive") would then definitely lead me to wanting to do the amnio, which does carry some risks. Just feels weird because usually I believe more information is better but in this case, that doesn't seem to be true necessarily.

Is this the AFP bloodwork? I was on the fence and my ob is pregnant so I said “did you get it?”   She said yes, so I’ll do it.   I like having all my data available.  I don’t think you’ll make a wrong decision either way.

@stlbuckeye132 and @footdrbritt I am also struggling with team green. DH is 100% sure he doesn't want to find out, that is the only thing regarding this pregnancy that he is super vocal about wanting. But even though I originally wanted to be team green, now I want to know. After we discussed it last week he said if I wanted to find out that's fine, but to please keep it a secret from him and everyone else. Then a few days later he said that we should both just find out because otherwise he is going to worry that I'll let it slip for the rest of the pregnancy. So, I think I'll find out when they call with NIPT results and act like I dont know, so he can think about it more and decide if he really wants to know, at which point he can find out at our anatomy scan. I really don't want to take anything away from him. And he's already ok with me knowing. So I figure it might be easier if he doesn't know that I know. Maybe.
  • @MrsTiger123 yes, I couldn't remember what it was called but I googled and that's it! I think you're right, there's no "wrong" decision.
  • @modoodles I’m glad you figured out a kind of solution so you didn’t have to sneak and find out!

  • EDD/weeks+days: 7/27, 15 weeks

    Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: FO

Baby is the size of a(n)/fun fact: ?

Upcoming appointments: 2.5 weeks, and AS in 4 weeks - happy I get to do it right at 19 weeks and don’t have to wait an extra week

How are you feeling?  physically good, but I am in the camp of people who are getting super worried about not feeling the baby much or at all even though it’s super early on. I felt pretty sure I felt a little poke before 12 weeks and more flutters around 13 and 14 weeks. It felt kind of crazy early but my midwife said that some people do feel things that early... But I feel like I should feel things now too! I don’t remember when I started feeling things with my first but last time I felt things fairly consistently after about 14 weeks. Kind of wondering if I have an anterior placenta again that’s making it harder to feel things. Or if it’s just still way too early.

Raves/Rants: Just just anxious to start having more obvious signs that everything is going OK inside!

    Questions: none

GTKY- Do you have any superstitions? Not really? I used to think going to bed saying something nice was important, but found that my husband gets angrier and less rational if we’re arguing late at night. If I just let him go to sleep and stop pushing for him to say something nice, things go much better. I on the other hand, get more anxious and can’t sleep if things aren’t resolved... but I’ve learned it still is better than not letting him go to sleep in those situations..
  • EDD/weeks+days: 15+2 7/25

    Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green:
    Blue

Baby is the size of a(n)/fun fact:
    Orange

Upcoming appointments: OB appointment at end of month, anatomy scan in March

How are you feeling? Very tired due to the crazy amount of sleep disruption. I feel like I toss and turn all night, even with the help of a weighted blanket and magnesium.

    Raves/Rants: um, nope? For once.

    Questions: nope

GTKY- Do you have any superstitions?
Not sure if it’s a superstition, more like a weird thing I have to do. If I’m walking up or down a set of stairs, I like the last step to be made with my right foot, so that my left foot is the one hitting the landing/floor. No idea why, I started doing it as a kid and now I swear I know which leg I have to start with on every set of stairs at work.
  • EDD/weeks+days: July 26 / 15w1d

    Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Green

Baby is the size of a(n)/fun fact: an Eggo waffle?

Upcoming appointments: Not until Feb 24.

How are you feeling? Starting to feel a bit more human/productive (cleaned a bathroom this weekend, so that's telling). Still not sure if I should quit the diclectin.
I felt a little flutter last week which I think was baby, even being a STM I'm still questioning. I'm with the rest of you and wouldn't mind feeling them a little more often, eventhough I guess it's still early. I honestly can't remember how far along I was when I started to feel the baby last time . At my last u/s the tech said something about my placenta but I can't remember if she said anterior or not (I'm a loser lol).

Raves/Rants: I'm having such a hard time focusing at work. I move to a different school next week, so I think I'm just mentally done here so am having a hard time pushing through to the end.
Rave: my sister-in-law had her baby last week, so I got to snuggle my brand new niece this weekend. I'm so in love.

GTKY- Do you have any superstitions?
Not really, I'm not a very superstitious person. Friday the 13ths are actually my favourite days, usually good stuff happens those days, I guess that's kind of a good superstition?
  • @Pascal86 that sucks that he can't put things aside to at least acknowledge that you still love each other, even if you're fighting, to help set your mind at ease. Maybe you can say something but just not expect anything in return? Or would that piss him off too?

I'm lucky that MH gets it.... I was young when my grandmother passed (maybe 10yo or so)... I was on the phone with my grandfather and he asked if I wanted to talk to her. I said no and then she died, unexpectedly, very soon after. I'll never be able to take back that her last memory of me was me saying I didn't need to talk to her..... so now I have to say it. DH doesn't have a choice. He doesn't have to return the sentiment... but at least I know I did my part.
  • EDD/weeks+days: 7/19, 16+1

Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: Green! Echoing @MrsTiger123 for reasons - it's our first so we'll be thrilled either way; really want gender-neutral, reusable gear (for potential future kids); excited about the surprise. Plus it's driving some people around me crazy which I'm enjoying lol (cc @stlbuckeye132 @footdrbritt )

Baby is the size of a(n)/fun fact: avocado, which had me laughing to myself at that one avocado commercial last night during the Superbowl!

Upcoming appointments: AS later this month

How are you feeling? Good overall, like my old self in many ways! Expect pudgier.

Raves/Rants: I was doing some prenatal yoga yesterday and during the end relaxation part they had you lay back and out your hands on your belly and for the first time I felt a real, bonafide bump! Hope you're growing well in there little avocado! I'm tired of this "in between" phase and would like a straight up bump plz. (And I'm sure 8+ month pregnant me will rue the day I wished this lol)

    Questions: none atm

GTKY- Do you have any superstitions? I tap the roof of my car if I go through a yellow light. No idea why, just always have haha

@rachelredhead as a red Sox fan that made me LOL a lot 🙂

@meanjellybean I'm of the mindset to get the blood work done... UNLESS, there's nothing that would change about your care and delivery if you end up with a positive.

@shaqn0sis the Michael Scott quote.. yesssss.... Do you listen to The Office Ladies podcast? It's a rewatch podcast where they talk about behind the scenes stuff and stuff you see during the episode. At first, I was super underwhelmed by it.... and then I found myself talking to other people any chance I got and realized I probably actually like it.... so I'm listening lol
  • @meanjellbean I just recently had the test you are describing.  It turned out fine.  I know a few people with that condition with a range from it's not a big deal to it caused lifelong issues.  I personally just like the data.  My dr didn't warn me about the false positive issue but that's sorta her mo.
  • @blaf322 yes that's my mindset too, but with this test, the information doesn't seem helpful enough. And that information would lead me to make changes like having an amnio which may not be necessary. I think I'm going to just leave it undecided until after the AS. If anything looks even slightly wonky, I won't hesitate to do the test.
