@runwmusic i don’t feel like it’s going fast necessarily, but i am in no rush for him to arrive. Of course i can’t wait to meet him (and stop having my back hurt) but with an almost 5 and 2 year old, I’m okay with him staying put and this dragging on 😬😬😬
My baby turns two today 😭😭😭 i obviously know he needs to grow up because we have another babe on the way, but how is he already two?! Time is such a crazy thing and i am totally okay with it deciding to slow down at some point.
Cord blood banking... wondering people’s thoughts on this. Why or why aren’t you doing this? Just trying to decide if we should do it or not privately.
@spvern I'm not doing it. Didn't with ds either. Chances of being able to use their own is limited from what I've read. Ie, if they have something genetically wrong, their cord blood would also carry it. It's more likely to be used for a relative. I haven't done extensive research and am definitely not an expert.
@spvern We will not be. Up to 30-40% of baby's blood is in placenta and cord after birth. I'd just as soon get that into baby, via delaying cutting cord until it stops pulsing. Storage deepens personal use of the blood are high, and likelihood of needing are low. There are also many places that take donations of it, if that's something a family would like to do, but of course then it's not present for you to use if needed. But for us, again, we'll let baby hang onto it.
I didn't realize that delayed (which is just called normal clamping in some places, as opposed to immediate/early clamping) cord clamping prevented collecting cord blood with my first, but that makes sense.

was there a product spotlight thread about baby carriers for baby wearing? I swear I saw one before but I've been through all the posts and can't find it. Any suggestions on what to look for? I'd like a carrier rather than a wrap, moderate price. I'm trying to finish up my registry and that's one of the last few things I know I need to add.
@SpartanCat I had a Tula Free-to-Grow with my son and love it. It’s easy on and off and comfortable for both of us. My son slept great in it as a younger baby and I used it often in lieu of a stroller when we were out and about. I did get a used Baby K’tan for this time around for use in the infant stage. I never could get my son’s legs situated just right in the Tula when he was too small straddle. I’ll probably switch over the Tula after a few months.

@spartancat I just ordered a Sakura bloom scout off the Facebook group last week and am super excited to try it out. I have a few ring slings but wanted something with some structure that distributed the weight on both shoulders. With ds I used a lillebaby and really loved it until it got warm out. Even though I have the all seasons, model it got really warm. Having summer babies this go around, I'm hoping the scout will be my winner. 🤞
@SpartanCat we have a stretchy wrap, Lillebaby, and wovens. DH loves the Lillebaby but it doesn't work as well for me (so I wrap). I've heard good things about Kinderpack too. Some carriers are sized (infant, toddler, preschool) while others are adjustable. You may want to check if your front runners support the weights and sizes you expect to be wearing for. If you're buying for yourself, there are usually some good secondhand options on the BST groups on Facebook.

thanks for the suggestions! i've definitely been picking away at stuff from used places and take it off my registry when I find them. I got a cute playmat at a mom to mom sale for $3 this past weekend
@SpartanCat I literally just bought my third carrier. It’s a babybjorn newborn one. I saw it on Facebook marketplace for a great price and went for it! Of the other two we have the Lillebaby works well for me and the bigger babybjorn carrier one works better for DH!
@SpartanCat another vote for Tula free to grow, although it was also hot in the summer which is when I switched to ring slings. I have a lillebaby but I don’t like it. I don’t think it’s weird to register for multiple...I have 2 slings, two Tulas and the lillebaby and use them all!
We have an Ergo 360, a Lillebaby Complete Airflow, a woven wrap, a k'tan, an Infantino Sash (Mei Dah) carrier, borrowing an onbuhimo (back carries only, but no waistband, so nice for pregnancy or tandem wearing, and so light weight!, and a stretchy moby style wrap. I personally don't like the fit or comfort on the Baby Bjorn carriers at all. Our Sash is nice for both me and my husband to use, as there's no buckles to adjust between adult sizes, but for tiny babies you do need to add a rolled up blanket under bum to raise them up. The Lillebaby I had great experience with from newborn to almost 3 years old. The Ergo is decent when small, it didn't last as long height-wise as the Lille. The k'tan is great for tiny tiny babies, but I don't use it over 15 lbs, and it's sized to each adult. I changed sizes after baby 1, so ours is for sale, because it didn't fit for 2, and won't for 3, but I loved it with my first before I was confident with him in Lille. Our Onbuhimo isn't for beginners, ditto the woven, but love it for older kids. The woven is nice for an outing where I know they'll be up for a long time and might need a nap up there, it's so cozy, but the onbu is awesome for errands where we're in and out of the car constantly because it's quick or I just want a carrier for emergency, because it's tiny and fits into the bag. I have no love at all for stretchy wraps-they're only good super young anyway, for that the k'tan is easier.
We have so many carriers as we both wear, both our current kids get worn sometimes, and hoping to wear all three this fall.
I highly recommend looking for a baby wearing group near you, many meet up in person, to see what appeals to you, what's easy to use, etc. They have many to try on, and most groups have a jlending library for members (usually $30 for the YEAR) where you can borrow carriers and take them home. I've known people who never bother to buy their own, and just grab a new one monthly as kiddo grows for a year, and then stop wearing after that, lol.

Finding a lending library is a great idea, @pourmeanothermocktail ! I never think about it because ours closed right when I was getting into wearing (thanks to the big Baby Wearing International shakeup a few years ago). Outside of a lending library or babywearing meetup, it can be hard to find a chance to try certain carriers (like an onbuhimo).
If you do fall in love with babywearing, it's pretty easy to rack up a sizeable collection (in numbers and $$) as you find more and more patterns or weaves that you love. I am a terrible example of this. Do not follow in my footsteps (unless you want to and have the means to).
@kyrwy it is such a slippery slope! Wildbird has their spring/summer drop next Wednesday and I'm staring at a new rainbow pattern trying to figure out how to get it in trade for an unused different rainbow pattern from fall/winter season. Also, I'm so happy that I don't like any Sakura bloom spring linen colors!
@runwmusic So true. I ordered myself a pair of new wraps on preorder as a graduation/holiday present last fall and they're just now getting ready to ship. But they're now running another preorder that I'd love to get in on... and I am trying to decide if I can justify it (just a shortie?) when I already have way, way, way too many wraps to be purely practical. I think I need to post some things on the BST, since I've got three wraps I could sell and not miss, but the thought of having to keep up with it and/or visit the post office is so unappealing.
I have a Ergo that I loved and used ALL THE TIME with DS. I also had a Moby which I hated, probably because it was hot (August baby) and cumbersome. I also have a Maya ring sling that I love when they are wanting to look around but not quite ready for back carry because you can hip carry with it. When DS got to big for the Ergo we switched to a Toddler Tula which I loved but he decided shortly thereafter that he didnt want to be worn anymore .
Can we start a nursery thread? I’ve made zero progress besides a growing Etsy cart, but I love seeing the sweet spaces others are creating for their little ones.
I'm starting to get really paranoid about having another kid. Ds will be going through an 18 month sleep regression, which everyone says is the worst. His 4 month was insane so I am terrified.
It's strange to all of a sudden feel so overwhelmed by feelings of doubt and fear. Nothing to do but figure it out once she is here but it's daunting. I feel so guilty that ds won't understand why he's not the only center of our universe anymore. I just realized today that I'm in my last week of second trimester and I'm freaking out. My hormones are insane.
@runwmusic I can sooo relate to this. My son’s world will be turned upside down when baby sister gets here, and at his age, I don’t feel like there’s anything I can do to prepare him. I’m not as far along as you, but definitely sinking in for me too.
@runwmusic Our 18m sleep regression was nothing compared to the chaos brought by teething. I'll be a counterpoint voice that sometimes it's just not that big of a thing. We'd already gone from two naps to one nap and the bigger drama in his life was starting part time daycare (which he loved, and actually helped with sleep). I didn't realize it was supposed to be a big deal until it was past. And we had some doozies for the earlier regression(s).
@runwmusic Not to try to dismiss your worry-as it's a completely valid concern, and one we all have I think, know that there is no "right time" to add a sibling. Each age has advantages and disadvantages. Younger means typically more adaptable, less emotional about it, and they grow up just feeling like having a sibling is normal. Waiting means they may be able to understand more and process more, but I think they feel emotions bigger and have more concept of losing their single child status. But it's hard for everyone always, no matter the gap. You're in good company, we're all going to likely want a clone of ourselves for a period of time this summer.

@runwmusic I can relate but I am having kind of the opposite issue. My DS is going to be 6 in less than 2 months. He's been an only for so long and definitely has some sort of understanding of what's happening. But it's just been the two of us for a really long time and he is very attached/clingy. I've noticed that his attachment has increased the last few weeks as well. He doesn't want me out of his sight for even a minute. I know it's probably a phase and I'm sure there is an adjustment period when the baby comes for any age. But I do wonder how he will handle it.
@runwmusic for what it’s worth DD’s worst regressions were 4 and 12 months. I don’t even remember an 18 month one! That being said like you and the others who commented I’m getting nervous too. DD is soooo clingy and used to a lot of attention. She’s also tantrum prone. Also from DH and I’s side we sort of have down managing one kid. Two feels like it’s going to be so much harder. We’ll get through it together!
I just scored new toddler utensils for DS1 off the local buy nothing group! If you have a BN in your area, check it out. There's usually a ton of baby/toddler/kids stuff -- most is stuff I don't want, but I put in a request for NB size boy's clothes since I realized we somehow limped by with 3 outfits and 3 jammies for DS1 and he was born preemie sized (so we were in NB for awhile). I do not have time for that much laundry this time around!
Also, apologies if I have made this comment before. My brain is swiss cheese these days.
I personally love solly baby wraps so much. Hands down my favorite baby product! I also have a Tula and like it for different reasons, but i am actually excited to wear my solly!
@runwmusic I’m right there with you. I keep having moments of wtf were we thinking?! I hate that. Especially because i feel paranoid baby is feeling my anxiety and negative thoughts 👎🏻👎🏻
FWIW, i have an almost five and just turned two year old and do not have any recollection of an 18m sleep regression. I also never read anything about that stuff so I’m never watching for it. But i definitely never remember them struggling to sleep then. If you do notice something, maybe try to cut down their nap quantities or push it earlier in the day to help out? Good luck with that!!

Is it weird to register for both a k'tan and one for bigger babies? or do you just do the Tula or lillebaby alone?

@kjack86 yes please! I think I decided on a dinosaur themed nursery and I've found so much cute stuff but haven't pulled the trigger on anything
