  • @stashattack I got a waterproof mattress protector that I put on around 34 weeks when I was pregnant with dd.
Even though my waters did break whilst I was in bed, in the early hours of the morning, it wasnt the big dramatic gush that tv & movies condition you will happen (which totally can happen, just not for me) and a pad more than contained it whilst i made my way to the hospital & for the hours I was in the hospital after being admitted & not in active labour.
  • @leprechaunlady we do have a waterproof mattress pad, but I'm just being extra cautious LOL

  • @stashattack if you feel better being prepped, then go for it! That can be one less thing to worry about for you.

Our office is freezing today! They didn't turn the heat on and it's 68 in here. Brrrrr!!!
  • @stashattack, My water DID break in that huge gush thay everyone talks about with DD. On my mother's bed no less. But, it didn't make it through the comforter...which I stopped to check as my mother was going bonkers WHO CARES ABOUT THE BED?!?
  • It was a federal holiday today and I wasted the whole thing arguing with my SO. Now I'm tempted to call out...and seriously debated quitting my job.
  • @FyreFlyeRush you've been unhappy with your job for awhile. It's this a decision that's a long time coming or one made because of the fight?
  • You guys, I seriously could have killed my dumb husband this morning.  At like 5ish apparently (i didn't know the time til after) Harper woke up for the 3rd time...I send him in there to deal with her & get her back to sleep.  So he brought her into our bed "because there was a fly in her room." 🙄😒  We rarely co-sleep, because it doesn't work for me (husband sleeps through everything), and I use it as a last resort for when I've gotten zero sleep due to her being up like 5+ times a night - plus the fly excuse happens like 1-2x/week with her and you just have to convince her that the non-existent fly is gone.  So I was up since 5am, due to her tossing and turning, and his snoring although he claims he "didn't sleep either" when I didn't need to be up until 6:30am.  So I started my first day at a new job on approximately 4 hours of sleep, looking like a frumpy, exhausted, pregnant mess.
  • The heating pad is saving my life lately. Idk why I waited so long to try it for my rib pain, but it makes a huge difference. Now I just need to figure out how to use it when I’m driving 🤔.
  • @valerie4786 Good luck today!! And while I wouldn't find it funny in your shoes, dealing with a non-existent fly is kinda humorous. But yeah, I think that's a legitimate reason for killing a spouse.

@kbrown2385 do you have a car with a normal plug in? Or do you need to find a heading pad with a USB plug? There's gotta be something like that out there....
  • @kbrown2385 what a good idea! So you place it just on your rib area or how? My right side rib's are really starting to hurt, especially after meals since space becomes more limited and I feel everything moving up.It only helps if i sit really straight or raise my hands over my head haha (which isn't convenient)

@valerie4786 I had a similar experience last night with DD coming into our bed since DH is now home I think she was excited ughhh..
  • @persnickity I don’t but I know Dh has a regular plug in his car. Guess we get to switch 😆.

@c1kc1kpol1cn1k I put it on my back since that’s where I have the most pain. If yours is in the front and happens after you eat, make sure you rule out any gallbladder issues with your dr. I found any front rib pain, for me, is because baby girl has her head or feet lodged up in there. If I put some pressure and rub my uterus from the bottom of my ribs up towards my sternum (hopefully that makes sense) it usually moves her along for a little bit.
  • @kbrown2385 such a good tip, I'll try it out. I also have my midwife today so I can ask about it as well
  • @c1kc1kpol1cn1k I can usually get the baby to shift by rubbing the sides of my belly to help encourage him to settle in a new spot. He mainly pushes out on my belly button and I have to nudge him along.
  • @kbrown2385 I made myself what I call a "warm thing" for lack of a better term. Essentially it is a heating pad sized bag full of rice corn and flax seed that I can heat in the microwave and take with me anywhere. It keeps the heat a surprising amount of time. I know you can buy them if you don't want to make one!
  • @persnickity, as we slowly worked our way through the argument, the extra day was wasted, and I wanted to spend today, alone, with him at the house doing today what I wanted to do yesterday: spend the day cuddling and remembering why this is worth fighting for...which made me debate calling out. In that instant, I also realized I want out of here. I'm not going anywhere with a baby on the way. But nothing says I have to come back to it when my leave is up. In the end, I took a half day and went in at 11.
  • Sometimes I wonder if I should go back to school and get my Masters. I wanted to be a Combat Spouse conselor. Yeah, I know...and English/Anthtpology major wanting a Masters in pyschology who has a background in IT, and about 1/2 degree in Geology... Anyway, there's a lot of focus on Combat VETS, but no one really looks at the impact on the families and partners of Combat Vets. They need support, too.
  • @marebear15 I absolutely panicked when i saw you had commented in the birth announcement thread! 😂
  • @leprechaunlady @c1kc1kpol1cn1k - Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry! I just realized I couldn't find it at the top and that it hadn't been stickied. I really hope no one posts in there for real for at least another 2 months.
  • @FyreFlyeRush it had sounded like you weren't fulfilled by the job anymore. I think some days we justify staying, even when we should leave. I vote leaving, regardless of the baby, when your mental health is too negatively impacted.
  • @persnickity, I need the insurance. Right now, 8 know this company has insurance both my OB and pediatrician accept. Plus, I'm paid VERY well and the money is nice. 3 months isn't that long.
  • @FyreFlyeRush Completely understand! If you can make it through, the money is always nice
  • I got to work and sat in my car and hid from the world for 15m. Why? Because I'm preggo-somnia doesn't mesh well with an 0600-1500 schedule. And it's raining. And it's cool. And it's dark. And...NO PEOPLE.
  • @FyreFlyeRush it's rainy and cold here too also hid from the world a bit this morning
  • A testament to my boredom (and my BFFs love of puns)...

  • @FyreFlyeRush your job seems to have a bit of down time! I feel like a chicken with my head cut off at work these days. As much as I love my students I sometimes just have to hide so I can get my real work done...

@biolprof, my job has nothing but downtime. The only challenge is getting up in the morning. Hence my distaste of it.

In other news...I swear this will be me this weekend on my 5K

A 190lbs mastiff decided he was done walking, laid down on the trail, and refused to move. He had to be rescued and carried down the hill!

Uggh today has been a day. Felt underprepared for my lecture then realized I made a couple of mistakes in class today. To top it off apparently I offended a student by implying his question was dumb which wasn't intended but doesn't change his feelings of course. I apologized and then he used the opportunity to tell me all my inadequacies as an instructor so that was nice. Feeling real good right now.... Pregnancy brain at it's finest....

    Edit: typo
  • @biolprof sorry you had a rough lecture day. It's hard not to be annoyed when you try to do the right thing by apologizing and they turn around and start bashing you.
  • @biolprof I'm sorry you had a rough day. FWIW, I think the student was out of line in attacking you, and shows HIS inadequacy at being an adult.
  • @FyreFlyeRush well yes students do this all the time but being as I am older and the one being paid, I have to be the bigger woman in this case and just cry about it later. Certainly not the worst abuse I have had out of the mouth of a student. Last year I almost my boss almost launched a formal investigation on a student's email to me. People can be mean sometimes!
  • @biolprof - I'm sorry you had issues with a student. I've had issues at work remembering things too. It's annoying when my boss comes to me three times in one day to ask for three different projects that have been on my desk and I forgot to work on. 🤦
  • It's been cool enough the last week to have the windows open at night. Last night, my partner buried himself under the duvet and in all the pillows. Being pregnant, I just use the sheet and my body pillow, or I cook. Sometime in the middle of the night, he woke up and said "It's warm in here". He then pulls the sheet off me and goes back to sleep, trapping the sheet under his arm. So, he's still hot, and I'm now cold.  :D
  • @biolprof ugh, I'm sorry you had a rough time at your lecture but you're only human and currently in the process of growing another one! Mistakes happen, even to those in leader type positions. And extra sorry about your run in with that student. He sounds like a jerk and was probably only being that way to save face because he felt dumb. I'm sure it wasn't your intention to make him feel dumb but I'm also sure it probably WAS a dumb question 😉 lol... kidding, kind of 😁
  • @FyreFlyeRush we actually turned the heat on last night for the first time because it's starting to get too cold, but I keep waking up to my covers being stolen. And it's driving me nuts. I'm a cocooner and can't stand not being wrapped up LOL. I swear I need my own sheets and duvet covers to stay warm. Especially since he gets "too hot" to cuddle.

  • @stashattack we actually swapped from a queen sized cover to two twin covers. That way, we each get our perfect weight for covers.
  • I swear, I'm giving birth to a zombie. She's eating all my brains. I forgot three different jobs yesterday and my boss had to follow up with me for each one. And then today I realized I didn't complete all of one before passing it on, and now I have to go back to my boss and tell him and I'm dreading it.
  • @marebear15 oh no 😬. I’m sure this is out of the norm for you so hopefully he’s understanding.
  • Thanks ladies! @marebear15 I can completely commiserate. It's only for a short time longer luckily! I think we'll all make it! At least that is what I keep telling myself!

@peppyj9 it's especially hard not to make people feel dumb when their question is dumb. But my job is to make them learn and they turn off if I belittle them...but it's tough not to roll your eyes sometimes....
