Re: Weekly Randoms - Week of 9/16

  • @mokay19 the opening night film of the festival was Standing Up, Falling Down and it was great!  I managed to score not only tickets to the film but passes that are good for unlimited films every day of the festival for free through work (we do have some random perks like that) so I will head back for more over the weekend while hubby is working

  • @shamrocandroll ugh! I want to go to Leavenworth in the winter when it’s snowy 😍

@pirateduck that will be a fun weekend for you!
  • @mokay19 I bet it's so gorgeous around Christmastime!  It's so beautiful to begin with, and I'm sure snow and lights only makes it even more so!

  • @whatsbumpinpumpkin my first was born July 30th and I just remember sweaty PROFUSELY all while pregnant and breastfeeding. Hoping the May due date helps that a bit, too!
  • @whatsbumpinpumpkin 100% agree. But I’m not looking forward to needing a maternity winter coat!
  • @mamaqdubu I found with our older kids even in VT I barely needed one. I run SO hot pregnant.
@mokay19 yeeees! Putting a cloth diaper between us while nursing to soak up sweat.., #notcute

  • Shopping for a new washer and dryer.  Also planning on cloth diapering.  Any input appreciated.
  • @pirateduck we have whirlpool and I love ours! I CDed my first most of the time.
  • @pirateduck we CD for DS and it was so easy! I suggest trying to find a cloth diaper boutique in your area - a lot of times they have programs for trying out different diapers. We did a newborn program where we paid $250 for a newborn rental stash which had enough diapers for the first 3 months and they were a variety of different brands/types. At the end of the 3 months we returned the rental and got $200 store credit to buy our stash already knowing what brands/types worked best for us. This go around we just need to add newborn diapers to our stash.
  • @pirateduck also I would definitely go for top loader washer!
  • @pirateduck also I would definitely go for top loader washer!
Yeah, I thought I wanted to “upgrade” to a front loader, but the more I think about it a traditional top loader with agitator is probably the way to go.  My husband works in excavation so we have heavily soiled loads.  I’m also thinking with diapers that the agitator is probably good.

  • @pirateduck I have a cheap top loader and basic dryer. 10 years, going strong. A friend upgraded to fancy LG ones - they are a year old and she just had to replace the dryer

  • @pirateduck they make top load washers that are just as big as front loaders now anyway!
  • Any other Disney nerds on here? We are planning our vacation for November and I’m so excited! We’ve done Disneyland lately since the West Coast is closer but this will be the boys’ second Disney World trip.
  • @pirateduck I've got 16 months of cloth diapering under my belt. We have samsung steam vrt washer and dryer. Front loader. In the summers we have a GE front loaded that was FILs and is pretty old. Both work very well for cleaning our diapers. In the summer we don't have a dryer and I hang dry everything so we have no stains. Currently we have a bunch of stains for the first time ever but I think it's my lack of getting the wash done every 2-3 days (I've been lazy knowing I can wash and dry them all in a day) a rash and some not CD safe creams and her pooping twice a day. As long as you have a good wash routine I don't think the washer really matters. BIL has a top loader and I always end up with stains when we're visiting him and I need to wash.

Just remember a cold short wash first then a long hot wash with detergent. It works great and after years of research and tons of routines read, it's the simplest and very effective. I will also recommend tide powder. I haven't had a stink issue yet, and 2 set of friends of ours did. When I recommended they switch to powdered tide they're stink went away.
  • @mdfarmchick I love Disney! MH and I spent half of our honeymoon there. He was like a little kid (his first time and star wars!) he really wants to go back and see the star wars land but doesn't think 1 year olds are old enough and wanted to leave our daughter with MIL for a week. I love Disney but not enough to leave my daughter with MIL.
  • Anyone else's bump app not working? It says that my password is wrong, but I can't access the bump on the browser no problem with the same password.
  • @jhysmath my app isn't working properly either, but it's a different problem. I can use the app but the community part won't work =(. Makes it hard to check the message boards since I'm usually on my phone, not the computer.
  • @lisush that was the same for me and then I tried logging out and then back in and that's when it wouldn't let me back in at all.
  • @mdfarmchick We are! We're going in October. It will be the kids' first trip and I CANNOT WAIT!!

@lisush @jhysmath I can't use the Community feature and it's driving me crazy.
  • @jhysmath we’ve taken both boys to Disney even if they can’t walk—a, they are free until 3, and kid tickets are almost as much as adult ones!!! And b, we have fun and so do they. I mean we can’t go go go like we did before kids, but it’s still fun. Bring the grandparents or aunts/uncles and there’s always someone to hold a baby/toddler while you do rides.

@ruby696 yay! So much fun! Disney World? Where are you staying?

@mdfarmchick I'm in CA, so Disneyland for us. We're staying at the Disneyland Hotel. We wanted the kids to have the whole experience. And I wanted to be able to buy things and have them delivered to our room so we didn't have to carry them around. 😆

  • @ruby696 ahhh have so much fun! We’ve never stayed at the Disney hotels there. But I love Disneyland so much. <3
  • @mdfarmchick
I completely agree with you. I'd take my baby at any time. I don't really do many rides as it is and the fact that they are free makes it worth it to me. MH I think just likes to find excuses to leave the "baby" with his mom which I will do anything for that not to happen.
  • I'm pretty sure that pickle flavored potato chips were invented by pregnant women, for pregnant women.

@TattoosandLace That's such a bummer,  I hate when I have to miss stuff for my son's school, which is a lot, because everything they do is during the work day.
I love my job, don't get me wrong. I just started in Feb. after our youngest turned one. I am going to help with the book fair on the 14th since it's a federal holiday and the government offices are closed so I'm off work, but they are still in school. I'm looking forward to that.... naturally that's the same day as my first OBGYN appointment so I am going to be booking it from Dr to the School. LOL
