Re: Weekly Randoms 9/16-9/22

  • This week today is the hottest day at 95. The rest of the week is 90-92. I'm so excited! There are even lows in the forecast for upper 60s!!! I can't wait to fix all the screens my stupid cat keeps tearing apart so I can open the house! I miss fresh air. I miss rain. SUMMER. IS. FINALLY. DEPARTING!!!!!

  • @leprechaunlady - Oh my goodness, that it so sweet about DD and her grandpa.
  • @leprechaunlady that is so sweet 😭.

I need ideas of what kind of shoes to wear for my sisters wedding. This is the dress I decided on. I don’t do high heels as I’m 5’9” and on top of that, I’m already swelling. Should I just do flats and be done with it?

  • @kbrown2385
I would probably do low wedges. I can't wear heels either because 1. I can't walk in them and 2. they make my feet hurt too much, but I found a cute pair of wedges at DSW that are super comfortable and I can actually wear them without falling. I got them a few months ago so I don't know if they still have them.

  • @kbrown2385 i would probably go for a mid height wedge or else a small block heel or flat sandal. I wore high heels to the church for a wedding back in august and it was a big mistake, i changed to wedges between the church and reception.
  • @jaceru @leprechaunlady a wedge is probably smart. It’s outside too so no sinking with thin heels lol. I’ll have to look around. Thanks!

@kbrown2385, how long is your dress? Mine was floor length...even on my tall frame. I wore red 1" heels for the ceremony and bought a pair of red Converse Chuck Taylor's for before and during the reception. I had her permission, of course, but it was the best decision I made that entire wedding.

Ahhh. I see the dress now. I would wear brown boots, mid calf. They look adorable on high-lows. I actually have a non-maternity version of that dress.
  • @kbrown2385 - Fancy sandals? Flats are probably going to pinch after awhile, especially if you are swelling. What is your normal footwear?
  • @marebear15 flip flops or slip on converse style shoes. My sister wouldn’t care if I wore flip flops. It might cause my mom to have a stroke though...😬

@FyreFlyeRush i was considering a bootie of some kind too
  • @kbrown2385 I would go for the wedge or the bootie...I see flip flops or flat's being super uncomfortable later on with swelling and back pain
  • @kbrown2385 - If you are comfortable in flip flops, I'd try to find a cute sandal with some bling. Do your nails, and be comfortable all day. When is this wedding again? What's the weather going to be like? I realize I'm answering your question thinking of Florida weather currently.
  • @kbrown2385 , I'd agree with sandals if they're weather appropriate, but my concern is a lack of arch support. Your back will be killing you by the end of the night.
  • @marebear15 it’s october 5th in CT so the weather is really a toss up. I found some booties and low heels I like and will probably bring some flip flops as back up.

Someone dropped a bunch of vendor swag off at the table behind my desk and people have been coming by all morning asking me what it is, if it's free, can they take it, etc.

    Person: What's this?
    Me: It's a (personal) fan
Person: Is it a business card holder?
    Me: Fan
    Person: Maybe this opens it.
    Me: Fan
Person: Oh, but it has this little switch on it.
Me: OK, I'll just stop telling you it's a fan
    Person: Oh, it's a fan.
    Me: *facepalm*

As he walks away, two of my female coworkers say: Yeah, we don't have brain storage facilities like they do, indicating with her hands I was being ignored for being female because I lacked male reproductive organs. I pointed to my chest...I do, they're just bigger and that scares them.
  • @leprechaunlady soo cute about DD and her grandpa! 🥰😭

@kbrown2385 I second thre fancy sandals with a slight wedge or booties
  • Any other teachers out there?  I am having such a hard time being patient with the kiddos!  I am so uncomfortable because I need to pee all of the time and there is no way I can leave them unsupervised.

@ponyoisfun , I'm not a teacher, but I when I first became pregnant, I was still a technical trainer, and I trained new hires. I needed to pee (or spew) all the time, and I couldn't leave them unsupervised because it's a secure facility and they needed an escort at ALL TIME. On top of that someone had the brilliant idea to start hiring anyone with a pulse, so their IT experience would sometimes be "This is my first IT job, but I have a Dell/HP/Mac at home I use". They could not get basic concepts that I expect IT people to understand. It was BAD. Some people were so green, by the end of the day, I was ready to scream all the way home.

.EDIT - I'm bored and distracted today. Can't find motivation to work.
  • @ponyoisfun I can imagine. I teach university so I can leave my students unattended if needed but I still struggle to find times to actually step out to pee when it's a 90 min lecture... No tips here except maybe have the office come and regularly relieve you if you have long stretches. The patience I don't think I can help with. There was a reason I teach adults 😂😂😂
  • @kbrown2385 - Ooh, I need to get an appointment soon. My hips have started to hurt.
  • We have our pre dry wall inspection today on our home! Fingers crossed there isnt anything serious that's wrong.
  • @jaceru - Are you building your house, or remodeling? We are in the middle of an addition and have just had the nailing&strapping inspection and next up are the plumbing and electrical ones.
  • @marebear15 I’m already looking forward to my appt next week.
  • I got a salad today, and realized how much I miss bleu cheese...What from pre-pregnancy do you  miss the most?
  • @FyreFlyeRush sushi. and wine.

  • I miss rare steak & wine & eating random sweet treats just cause I feel like it. I already have a list of things I want the minute the babies arrive!
  • @FyreFlyeRush I might have just eaten the bleu cheese without thinking lol! I miss not being tired all the time!
  • @leprechaunlady I keep saying my first meal is going to be 3 spicy scallop rolls as soon as i'm hungry enough to eat once I pop her out.

  • @FyreFlyeRush and @biolprof I am cracking up reading your anecdotes.  Teaching adults is no easier than teaching littles!  If anything I get way more annoyed by adults because they have so many more coping skills and actual skills.

@leprechaunlady I totally miss soft serve and just in general not having to be paranoid about buffets and potlucks etc.

  • @leprechaunlady, I miss rare steak so much, I pretty much quit eating beef altogether, unless it's something served well done to begin with (corned beef, fajitas, etc.) I've also told my SO, OK, once I'm in the postpartum ward, BRING ME A MONSTER IMPORT.

@stashattack, The smell of fish was so awful in my last pregnancy, I literally had just had my first salmon sashimi roll since that time three days before I went...am I pregnant again? That was also the last drink I had...Cucumber Martini. I was so depressed. I'd just gotten to where I could eat them again!!!!
  • @FyreFlyeRush the week I conceived I had a girls bender with my in laws for DH's cousin's wedding shower. So I did have a ton of wine that weekend. But I didn't get to have sushi before I found out. To be fair. DH did make me a cooked spicy salmon roll recently. But it's not the same as raw sushi. THat's for sure.

  • @kbrown2385 - I don't think I've changed my diet or anything this pregnancy. I did switch my fish option at one restaurant, but that's the only thing I can think of.
  • @stashattack, For me, what must've been days or hours after implantation, my sister and BIL did a crawfish boil. I was vaguely nauseated the whole day, and SO just looked at me (gagging at the smell of crawfish and wet dog) and said "You're pregnant." *eyeroll* I am NOT PREGNANT!!!! That night was the night we had Japanese for dinner. He was right, obviously. (So, apparently symptoms really can kick in that early?!)
  • @FyreFlyeRush - You probably had a higher amount of progesterone in your system that cycle, and that's what was causing the nausea.
I remember 2 separated cycles while we were TTC that I was nauseated right after ovulation, and I didn't end up being pregnant those cycles. The one I did get pregnant on, I wasn't nauseated early, and my progesterone was also low.
  • @kbrown2385 I've only given up alcohol and cut back on coffee (1 cup of caffeinated/day).  Otherwise I eat soft cheese, lunchmeat, sushi, things that contain raw eggs, etc.  I'm a little more careful about avoiding something that looks/smells "off" but otherwise, its a free-for-all!
  • @kbrown2385 - I don't think I've changed my diet or anything this pregnancy. I did switch my fish option at one restaurant, but that's the only thing I can think of.
Oh yes, that I do too!  I'm trying to eat fish at least twice a week and choosing lower mercury fish.
  • I’ve been cleared to see my mom. Her rash isn’t shingles. It’s a yeast infection. So as long as I don’t touch it I should be fine!!! Now she just needs to behave and not through a fit again like she did about the shower and I’ll go see her 🤣🤣🙈
