Re: IF Testing and Treatment w/o 8/12

  • @kiki047 FX for you that this IUI cycle is what it takes! One of the things I read was that 3 IUI cycles are the equivalent to 1 IVF cycle in terms of success rates for people with unexplained infertility. Not sure if that's really true, but hopefully third time will be the charm for you! Also, I will say that a lot of what I was reading that said IUI wasn't worth it was from people who don't live in the US. In other countries, apparently IUI and IVF aren't that different in price, which is insane to me. If IVF wasn't so cost-prohibitive, I'd be more inclined to go straight for that too. But between you, me and @kpearse99 , I think we can keep up the IUI-positivity! (am I missing any other IUI'ers?)

  • @shoogapoff I'm Canadian so some of the costs are covered up here. I still have to pay OOP for the sperm wash ($500 Cdn) and not all of the drugs are covered ($250) but all of my b/w and u/s are covered and most of the routine testing. We haven't talked about the cost of IVF yet but I was told somewhere in the ballpark of $10-15k. FX for success with the IUI! We've got this!

  • @emeraldduchess we are!! Thanks! I got a call back from the scheduler this afternoon, and she said they are already double-booked for Thursday afternoon. 😕 She said to call back Wednesday though, in case there are cancellations (which she said happens quite a bit), so there is still a chance! I don’t know why I didn’t think to call about this sooner!

@jennifer_louise thank you, I’m definitely excited to get this show on the road! Haha, I don’t mind at all to post my list...although DH and I ended up playing a game on the Switch tonight and didn’t make the list...but tomorrow, it’s happening!

@kiki047 thank you! That would be awesome if so, but totally understand if you can’t find it easily! I don’t really know what to expect as far as the course of action that will be suggested going forward, so I’d say there will be lots of follow-up questions after the initial appt. (both on here and to my RE)!

  • @kiki047 Isn't that a great quote from him?! It brought a tear to my eye too when he first said it to, I kinda wanted to just hug him  :D  But I keep reminding myself of that line every time I feel my thoughts going in the wrong direction. Get the bracelet!  It's pretty inexpensive and at the very least, since you can add oils to the lava beads, you'll get nice bursts of a calming scent if that's the oil you choose!  I'm really happy we are IUI buddies!!

  • @bluetickgal ok I didn't find my own list but I did bookmark this thread last time which was really helpful. My biggest advice is to write all of your own information down and take it with you. All of your supplements and dosages, I am always asked when my last LMP started (every time I go in, not just my first appt), I took my charts with me just in case, though my RE didn't so much care about my BBT because they did their own monitoring. Even if you feel like you have some of these things in your head already, write it down anyway. And don't be afraid to ask them to slow down or explain something while you record it, it's amazing how fast those appts seem and it's all a blur in the end.
@kpearse99 I love the idea of the diffuser too. I have a lava bead bracelet that my dad got me, I wonder if I can put essential oils on that too...

  • @kiki047 thanks so much!! That thread will be a huge help for starting my list!! Definitely a good tip to write down all the meds I take or have taken in previous cycles...I had to put a lot of that on the paperwork I filled out to take in, but it wouldn’t hurt to have it in my notes too! I wasn’t sure if they would care about seeing charts or not but I may print them just in case. If nothing else, it shows the commitment we’ve had to this for 15 months already! Thanks again for all the info & tips, I definitely appreciate it!
    kiki047
  • @shoogapoff That’s one of my worries too is trying to figure out the timing of things when work gets in the way. Hopefully the timing will all work out for you. Keeping FX your IUI is a success. Have you discussed a back up plan with your RE in case it doesn’t work the first time?

@kiki047 Good to see you back, friend! We missed you around here. That’s interesting about “priming the pump” (I LOVE that term BTW) and how it increased your H’s count. Might have to try that. Glad you have a solid plan in place and it makes sense that you are struggling with having to let go of the idea of conceiving naturally. It’s so unfair that anyone has to deal with this. I’m keeping everything crossed for this IUI to be a success for you!

@bluetickgal Glad the nurse was so helpful with your questions. GL putting that list together. I’m going to start making one too, even though I won’t be going for a few months. Hope everything goes well at the appointment and you are able to come up with a plan!

That’s a good idea to start your list now...I’m normally more on top of things and would have had my list made by now...but hopefully we can sit down tonight and get it knocked out. Oh, I got the Conquering Infertility book on my Kindle...I planned to start reading it at lunch today, but spent my whole lunch on here instead. I’ll start it tonight though!

  • FX so hard for you @kiki047!! Did you do your own trigger? So far MH is doing my IM injections, but I think I can probably do them myself. I'm just nervous to try.
    kiki047
  • @ruby696 oh MH gets faint if I even so much as talk about a needle so I had to do it myself while he was at baseball   it wasn’t so bad. I think I did it too slow because I was nervous about stabbing myself too deep? You could totally do it yourself. Are the IM injections in your butt tho? I feel like that’d be awkward just cuz of the angle. I have a lot of belly flab so I didn’t even feel it lmao.

Let us know how it goes - I'm living through you today since mine will be coming up soon too!!  I told MH last night he'd have to do the injection for me because I wasn't sure I'd be able to do it myself... too nervous... and he laughed and said no way! • Questions for you all:  those that have done the IUIs (or are still doing them) do you still worry/stress about timing HIO either before or after the procedure?

Also, I've been feeling very minor and dull achy cramps these last 2 days after finishing the letrozole - I'm thinking that's normal but has anyone else experienced that?

  • @kpearse99 My RE encouraged lots of sperm, so we HIO'd before and after. She has a "the more, the merrier," philosophy.
    kpearse99
  • @kpearse99 my only requirement was HIO around the time you do the trigger shot then abstain until day of the IUI so YH has 2 days of sperm built up to provide for the IUI procedure. The they told us to HIO that night. Anytime outside that was up to us.

We had better numbers if we HIO more prior to IUI. We got better motility when we HIO 2-3 times before the night of the trigger sex.

This thread got away from me this week 😬 I’m equally happy to be with good company but also sad there are so many of us here.

Question- have anyone’s cholesterol / triglycerides been affected by letrozole? I had a biometric screening for work yesterday and my triglycerides were so high that their little dinky machine couldn’t give an exact #, they just knew it was over 500. Last year it was 96. Of course the lady asked if I was pregnant and I had just taken the negative test that morning. I tried calling my RE yesterday but she hasn’t called back.

@inthewoods23 that's exactly what my RE told us too.. and that was totally my thinking behind it all... the more we have before the IUI the better our chances will be!

@ruby696 that's what I was thinking too... the more the merrier!  :D  My goal is, at least, EOD right now until I know when the IUI will be scheduled for.  Then we will HIO around the time of the trigger... hold out for the 36 hours after the trigger and before the IUI, and then HIO again the night of the IUI.

  • @kiki047 we just did shower sex while on the progesterone suppositories so he could clean off right away and I didn't feel the need to "marinate" after sex since I was already post-O.  Also, I always scoop out the gunk while in the shower to kind of clean it out every few days.  Especially when I was on Crinone.  Lots of excess gunk.

@kiki047 Yay, so glad it went well!  Also, these are the times I'm happy to be tall.  We don't DTD in the shower very often (maybe a handful of times in 11 years) because I don't find it particularly enjoyable, but when we do, it's just as simple as me bending over.
