I scheduled mine today but due to scheduling issues it’s scheduled for 25+4. It seemed a little early but the front desk called back to the nurse and she said it would be fine. Anyone else take it that early?
I had mine done at 24+2. From what I read it’s scheduled between 24 and 28 weeks.

Ok thank you. I took it at my 28 week appt with both my previous pregnancies so I wasn’t aware it could be taken earlier. Good to know, and even better to get it out of the way!
I don’t think this has been asked but sorry if it has. I was going to have the test done at my next appointment but it’s not until 2:45 PM. Is there a greater chance of failing after having 2 meals that day? I know fasting is not recommended (by my midwives anyways) but if I’m going to have to be super careful of what I eat for breakfast and lunch that day I’d probably rather go to a local lab and have it done in the morning on another day.
@melanier26 my appointment wasn’t till 11am. My OB told me to eat normally but maybe don’t have donuts for breakfast and soda for breakfast. I’m assuming they want to do the test when you’re as normal as possible.

I was 25+3 when I did mine. Granted, I’m moving out of state, but I don’t think my OB would’ve made me take mine if it was too early.

Cut out carbs after 10 and don’t eat for about 2 hours prior before the drink. Just don’t have a high carb breakfast. I purposefully do mine in the afternoon.
@melanier26 I prefer to not eat before and so I do it in the morning. Fasting doesn’t give you a higher chance of failing as some here have suggested (confirmed this with my doctor at my appt yesterday). But it also doesn’t make you sure to pass either. The biggest note is to cut out carbs before you are tested. I’d recommend eggs or another protein instead and try not to eat anything right before.

Both mine are the ones who told me you can increase your risk of failing by fasting, multiple times.
I was interested in the fasting vs non-fasting question because this is also the first time I’ve been told not to fast in my 3 pregnancies. From my pubmed search it appears that literature supports that fasting increases failure rate in OGTT but it’s suspected that this is due to higher sensitivity and not lower specificity. I would think that my doctor would want to have me fail it if I had GD but I’m still going to follow her recommendations either way.
@cmbt2 I am very aware of what your doctors have recommended. @melanier26 I guess the takeaway is listen to YOUR doctor. Can you email your OB and ask for clarification before your next appt? Clearly there is no rule of thumb here because everyone is getting different advice.

This. My doctor said, "You don't have to fast, but don't eat a bunch of carbs and sugar. If you want to fast, feel free to do so, it certainly won't hurt anything." Then he left the room and the nurse said, "If you want to help your chances of not having to do the three hour, I'd suggest fasting." LOL
So just do what you feel comfortable with, that's what I'd say.
@junebabyh@jenferlee82 I second and third what was said. There’s no hard and fast rules for fasting prior to the 1-hour test. It seems like each doctor advises a little bit differently. Do what your doctor says and bring up concerns if you have any.

I did mine today - right at 24 weeks. I thought the drink was bleh, but I knew it would be, sooo. Then I washed it down with some water and *then* I read you aren't supposed to eat or drink anything between when you drink it and when you get the blood drawn... I didn't say anything, but it can't really change anything, can it? Should get results tomorrow.

Yes, you can get a false negative. Speaking from a friend’s (actually 2) experience

As far as my doctor has told me I can drink while waiting for the hour to finish. It's interesting how every doctor gives different advice.
Just drank my lemon lime sugar cocktail. I ate an egg and string cheese exactly one hour ago, and they said it shouldn’t mess with the results, but I hope that an hour is enough time. Fingers crossed!

The lab posted the results of my glucose test onto my portal and it looks like I passed. Yay! It was 97 mg/dl, which was in the "normal" range. However, I did note that I was listed as "low" for hematocrit and hemoglobin. I have a follow-up appointment with my doctor next week, so I guess I'll get more information then. Has anyone else received low results?

Me, I had low H&H and was told I was anemic. I’ve been taking an extra iron supplement for the last couple weeks.
I'm on my way to my 26 week appointment and glucose test right now. I downed that orange drink and it really wasn't too bad. Definitely reminded me of Gatorade.
@marbellie I’ve got mine today too. I didn’t think the drink was bad at all! I got orange too. When they asked the flavor I couldn’t remember what most people suggested, but glad I chose orange! Only 20 more minutes til blood draw. Fingers crossed we pass!
I passed! This time around I had a choice of lemon lime or orange. I tried the lemon lime and it wasn't bad. Like flat Sprite. And it didn't have any artificial coloring in it.
Oh man! I have mine booked for first thing Friday morning and really wish I didn’t have to go into the office for the rest of the day. I hope I don’t crash too terribly.
It’s funny to me that I barely remember my first test with DS—I must have blocked it from my memory.
Possibly stupid FTM question: when people are mentioning "crashing" from/after the glucose test, what exactly do you mean by that? Like, getting tired/sleepy? Sick and nauseous? All of the above?

A question I can finally answer despite being a FTM! I think a combination or either can happen (nauseated/tired). Personally, I felt great at first myself but then 30 later got a little nauseous and couldn't drink water or down crackers, which did suck

I feel sick and desperately need a nap. No amount of protein will fix that’s for me. How you respond will usually be pretty similar to how you respond to a general sugar overload
Honestly, I didn't think it tasted too bad. My office made me fast, so it was the combination of being very hungry and then drinking a very sugary drink that actually made me nauseous for a few hours. Its not a big deal.
Well darn, it looks like the 3 hour test for me. The results were released online, now I just have to wait for the doctor to call and confirm. I didn’t eat breakfast yet hoping I can get it done today, but that’s probably wishful thinking.
@sammygirl18 Oh shoot! I hope you pass the 3 hour test.
I just drank my glucola about 15 minutes ago and it was nice and cold and didn’t taste so bad this time. Baby is kicking up a storm and I’m hoping I pass and that my work day is kind to me 🤞🤞
@galentine When I crash I get super tired, like I need to do jumping jacks or walk to get my blood pumping. Now I feel like this after I've had a bagel cause there's so many carbs. However when I had the glucose screening I don't recall crashing like this. I also went straight to work after and did my long walk from the lot so that might have helped. Good luck with yours!!
Just finished my blood draw and I’m in need of a nap. I’ve never had this “crash” exhausted feeling before so I’m hoping I didn’t fail but my OB said to make sure to get food just after I left.
I failed one of my three hour checks, so I have to go to diabetes education. Is anyone else in the same boat or experienced this previously? I’m shocked that it happened. I’ve worried about a lot of things during pregnancy, but this isn’t something I’d every thought would happen. Looking at the risk factors online, about the only one I hit is that I’m over 25.
@sammygirl18 I am so sorry. That is stressful. It's important to note that even fit and healthy women can still be diagnosed with gestational diabetes. This is why they do the blood test on everyone, not just women who have a family history of diabetes or who are obese. (Have you been officially diagnosed yet?? You only mentioned that now you need to go to a diabetes education class.) I've known a few people who had GD, but didn't have either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes in their non-pregnant life. Also, my mom is a Type 1 diabetic and when she was pregnant with both my sister and me she had to measure out all her food. I haven't failed the 3 hour test before (but did fail the 1 hour test by two points with both my other pregnancies), so I can't help from personal experience. Luckily, you're nearing the end. Hang in there!
@junebabyh I think so...they sent in a prescription for a monitor and strips. They really didn’t say a whole lot and I’m a bit mad at myself for not asking questions. I did find out their diabetes education is meeting with a dietician for 90 minutes. Hopeful she will be able to tell me how frequently I’ll have to check my levels and more information about it. It seems fairly common from what I’ve read online and very manageable, but I’m really hoping to learn a lot Wed! I think I’ll call the doctors office back tomorrow to find out more about risks to baby, since I’m guessing I won’t get that from the dietician.
I took mine today but my question is the after effects. Did anyone else feel out of it the rest of the day? I've had a pounding headache, nausea and heartburn since my blood draw. Trying to see if that's normal or if my stomach flu is coming back. TIA

I had to get stuck in both arms bc my veins are always difficult 😂 I warn every nurse but they're still always surprised
