@noranorabobora whilst i would respect his wishes about him not wanting to know, i would say he doesnt get to make that decision for you & if you want to find out, go ahead but be honest with him that you are finding out. I'm not the type of person who could be team green & if dh was i would let him be if he wanted but id still find out myself!
@noranorabobora That's a tough spot to be in! It's your baby too and if you want to find out, you should be able to. That said, if he doesn't want to find out, he shouldn't have to either. Can you talk to him about why he doesn't want to know and about why you do want to know? Maybe you can find a compromise.
@noranorabobora I would get on the same page one way or another. For us, I wanted to be Team Green and H talked me out of it, but in retrospect I'm comfortable with everything. I think it's fine to pull rank as the pregnant one if you want to but I don't think hiding it is realistic. Hooray for low risk!
@noranorabobora I don’t think he gets to dictate YOU finding out, provided you honor his wishes not to share with him. I crave information though so that’s just my take.
I’m so happy to hear all the good news on this thread!
As for me, I called the office today actually to find out when to quit taking progesterone (it was back at 12 weeks....oops), and I just mentioned wondering whether the test results were back. The nurse called me back and the results had just arrived today, so she read them to me before my OB had even signed them. Low risk for everything and it’s another girl!
I had to use the Way Back machine to dredge up this post!!! My OB called me at 830pm to tell me everything came back normal! I'm so excited! And relieved. And Happy!
I am 35 (will be 36 when baby is born) and with my NT or 2.6-2.7mm (13 weeks 0 days) and bloods (hcg .84 mom and Papp-a .94 mom) I came back with a 1 in 194 for Down syndrome risk. I think it was my age and NT that pushed the results as I don’t think my bloods seem that bad?? I did the harmony test prior at 10 weeks 4 days and got a less in 1 in 10,000 for all 3 trisomies. I will get a cardiac scan when I am around 6 months. My doctor did not advise any additional testing because of my harmony test results and he believes that it is way more reliable than the scan and combined blood tests. Great right? So my concern is this I had a son who was born with a very rare cardiac birth defect and once you are that 1 in 10,000 you can’t help to hear no matter what .... that there is a chance not matter how small. The harmony test only detected 7.3% fetal dna - prob because I had it so early. There is also some discrepancy as to when I know I conceived and the size my baby is registering on the scan. I believe I am reading 4-5 days sooner. So with an early harmony tests done with low fetal dna is it that reliable? Am I just over thinking it and panicking because of what I went through in my last pregnancy? Would you get an Amnio? Any advice and stories are needed! Thank you for reading my post.
Those numbers are beautiful, but I understand your fear and concerns. Ultimately, the choice is up to you. I had an amnio with my 2nd pregnancy. I was 34, but 35 at delivery, so AMA. I had false positive results in my first pregnancy, and didn't want to go through that again. So, I opted to go straight for it. The risk of miscarriage is a lot lower than the statistics, when those that have chromosomal abnormalities (and would have resulted in miscarriage either way) are filtered out. Physically, it was just uncomfortable. A pinch, some cramping, then it's over. Emotionally...it was a little scary and the wait is pure torture (he was one of the rare cases where the cells took the full amount of time to grow). But, it brought me so much peace of mind knowing 100% that everything was fine. Would I do it again? Absolutely. My OB and I feel the NIPT results outweigh the risks associated with the amnio, so we'll reevaluate at the anatomy scan. Whatever you choose to do, make sure it is the right choice for YOU. Don't let people talk you into or out of anything.
@saral1717 I’m sorry you’re going through this - it’s scary and I get it as I went through the same thing... but you’ve posted this 3 times, apparently shopping for an answer you’d be happy with. Speak with a genetic counselor and make a risk based decision with your care team.
Hi chichiphin it was suggested by another poster to post the question here in the NIPT thread, so I did. After speaking to the genetics counselor on Monday she basically gave me the same advise as my OB so I am still left deciding on what to do. I almost feel like it put me in an even more confused position and left with more answers and worry. It’s so difficult...
@FyreFlyeRush how long was the healing process after your amnio? Just a little confused with your post that you went straight for the amnio but later you say the NIPT outweigh the risks so your waiting to see at the anatomy scan what to do.
@saral1717, I had an amnio in my 2nd pregnancy in 2011. NIPT was JUST coming onto the market as I entered the third trimester, so it wasn't an option. I was placed on Couch Potato Duty for the remainder of that day and allowed to go back the next day, provided I didn't do strenuous activity or heavy lifting for 2 additional days (I was a computer hardware tech at the time). The pain was gone before I left the clinic. This is my 4th pregnancy. I'm 42 this time, with a loss, making me a little more cautious. I would and will have one if my OB thinks it's necessary. But, at this time she doesn't, so I'm content with the NIPT results.
EDIT - Additional word like thingies....I didn't have any complications. No fluid leaking. No cramping (after the procedure). No change in movement, happily bouncing on my bladder the whole time. No pain at the needle site. It was a breeze. Just a little nerve wracking, wondering if you WILL have complications. Then, I was fine for 14 days....but started getting antsy when I still didn't have results after 19 days. I finally got them at 22.
