As far as the rock n play goes, the straps are so important! Unfortunately any mom could make the mistake of not fastening the baby in correctly for whatever reason. For the first few months my son slept in his swing almost exclusively. It was the only place he would sleep well. One day I was watching tv in the same room as him and only used the waist buckle not the shoulder straps and he rolled sideways and flipped out of it. I didn't even know that was possible because he couldn't sit up yet. I watched it happen and couldn't get to him in time. It was definitely my least proud parenting moment and could have been much worse.
I failed my 1hr GTT the other day. Not surprised but the way they posted the results online gave me hope that I actually did for a while so kind of a bummer. Did my 3hr yesterday and hoping to get results Monday.
Funny story though, as I was waiting for my 2hr blood draw I heard a tapping on the window behind me. Turned around and see this handsome guy (Muscovy duck). Kind of felt like the farm version of Snow White 😂😂. So of course I got on the floor to say a proper hello and hang out with my new friend and prayed I didn't have to have someone rescue me since I wore skinny jeans and have a hard enough time getting up anyways.

So since a lot of you have animals, I have a question. We are moving to a house on the lake in the next week, and I want to get a cat to try to keep away mice and things. Is it possible to have a cat that goes in and outside? I've never had a cat and have always heard either inside or outside. If we get a kitten and bring it in and out from the beginning, will they be okay doing both?
@shawnacrest all of my cats have been indoors/outdoors cats. Keep them inside for a few weeks with the windows open so they get used to the smell/sight/sound of home. Take them outside in small protected doses. Make they are chipped, collared, fixed, and vaccinated before you let them out.
@shawnacrest welcome to lake life! We have two indoor/outdoor cats. One of them started life as an indoor only cat, but when we got a dog door, he started going out more and more. Now when it's nice, he's out more than he's in! The dog door works great for us since all the animals can come and go as they please. Just a warning, though, that means the cats can bring gifts inside. Sometimes they're still alive!
My husband was taking pictures of me and the boys wanted to join in. Instantly turned into my all time favorite pictures. Love how much the boys love on their baby sister. 💕
Thank you @cindler and @indulgentgypsy. Ahhh, I am 100 percent a city girl. DH grew up in the country and wants more land and farm animals soon. I'm terrified or the snakes, snapping turtles, coyotes, etc. because I've never lived near them. This is going to be a huge adjustment. My poor 3 year old is used to being able to run around the yard freely and play. I feel like I'm always going to have to be one step behind him now.
@shawnacrest there is always a purpose for those animals. Snakes eat mice. If you have snakes, you'll have fewer mice. Turtles eat insects and other annoying little animals. Coyotes, well, their importance is less evident...
Most of those animals thrive in overgrown environments. If you keep your yard/land cleaned up and cut, you'll have fewer problems.
I'm a small town girl and even my move to the country was an adjustment. I hope your DH will help show you the Joy's of country life, especially at the lake!!
@bartonolivia those pics are the sweetest! 😍
@shawnacrest I'd highly suggest looking for a local snake identification FB group. They are a great resource to have on hand. I was terrified of snakes for the longest and when we started finding more and more I knew I needed to actually learn to identify them just in case one of my kids ever got bit. I learned so much more and have pretty much gotten over my fear now and have a whole new respect for snakes. Plus I know if I ever come across a venomous one I have someone on hand to come relocate it so I don't have to mess with it.

@shawnacrest I pretty much grew up in the 'burbs and then DH and I lived in the city for a long time. When we first moved out to the country both of us took a huge sigh of relief. And for our boys, their first 4-6 years on the farm we had... I miss those days because they could literally just run out the back door into the yard and field and play in the trees or the barn or in the fields if the plows/tractors weren't out. They were wild semi feral children allowed to almost do what they pleased
@cindler Coyotes are important to the food chain, too! They eat a lot of mid-size rodents. Rabbits, Mice, squirrels. They also eat snakes, lizards, etc. They actually can be important for the management of agricultural pests. So, not all bad! They just get a bad wrap because they go where the food is... which can also mean they get into garbage, steal smaller dogs, and can feel threatening to people. If you will be around coyotes, I recommend learning about coyote hazing. They are highly trainable to avoid certain areas if they are hazed properly.
I'm a city girl. And I have no interest in changing that. It is bad enough that I have to live in the suburbs because I can't afford a nice house in Denver. The house I grew up in is almost a million dollars and I don't have that kind of $. My parents should have given it to me, but they sold it and moved to the woods/lake in GA. Rude. I was like, "NO, you were supposed to die in that house so that it could be mine!" They didn't appreciate that. LOL.
@hakele I know coyotes are important to the food chain, but I was struggling to come up with a "bad" thing they eat.
We have coyotes all around our place and they're fascinating and ominous. Last night, actually, we were out at sunset and it was dead calm. The coyotes started calling to each other and it was SO COOL. It sounded like a bunch of rowdy teenagers getting ready to tear up the town.
@cindler - we had coyotes that lived in our back 40/wooded area on our farm in NY. Listening to them call was haunting and beautiful. I miss them. I miss my semi-resident possum too we had a juvenile possum that would break in the kitchen window we left open for the cats. He was a cutie.
Thank you all! You ease my anxiety about it a little bit. I know every animal has its purpose, but the fear is definitely still there lol.
Thanks for that tip @nopegoat! I definitely need to do that. Snakes are really my biggest worry. We've been working on this house for a couple of years now, and I've seen two out there hiding in construction materials in a gravel lot. I couldn't tell you what kind they were but they're definitely out there.
TW... . . . . . . . . . . I watched The Resident tonight, and of course they had a pregnant woman in the ER who needed a c-section. She ended up bleeding out and passing away. I go on to watch the next show 911, and yet ANOTHER mom goes into labor and “dies” after having her baby. I’m now freaking out over having a RCS with this baby. I don’t want to leave my husband all alone with 2 babies under 2... I know it’s all fictional, but it does happen, and that’s the most scary thing to me.
@jenniferjoy37 I AM IN THE SAME BOAT AS YOU. First I LOVE 911 but didn't watch it last night. And I had a scjedsche c section with my first and honestly it wasn't all that bad BUT while I will have a RCS with these twins it will be a STAT c sevtion and my Dr won't schedule it because "I will go into labor before it's scheduled anyways" as crazy as it sounds.. I'm terrified because of my DS at home. I have someone and something to live for now and I am so scared he won't have his momma. Obviously, these boys too but that's is my baby and I'm not sure how else to explain it. **TW** Plus, baby a has a velementous cord and I'm terrified of the vessels breaking and bleeding out!
So I had a "fun" parenting first last night. My 6yr old was climbing a tree and started complaining his ear felt funny. Then he started crying because it started hurting. He came up to me and I looked at it and didn't see anything immediately then all of a sudden saw a tiny leg that quickly disappeared again. A bug was in his ear. We ran inside and thankfully the peroxide was already out otherwise I wouldn't have thought about it right away. Had him lay down on the couch with that ear up, out a few drops in, and in like 10secs the bug was bubbled out. Absolutely terrifying.

Anyone ever been put on potassium supplementation while pregnant? Mine came up as low on my GTT yesterday, and OB wants me to supplement. It’s a nutrient you get from food, so I’d assume it’s fine, but thought I’d ask...
Ahh you guys... I just did my glucose test and also got switched to appointments every 2 weeks...I'm not ready for this yet. I signed the consent forms for a tubal ligation... if I end up with another vaginal delivery, they just keep the epidural port in place and do the procedure the next morning through my belly button...it takes about 30 minutes and doesn't interfere with feeding the baby or going home. I'm nervous but I know that it's worth it, I don't want to worry I could be pregnant or end up with an oops... no way I want a 4th, even though it is sad to officially close up this baby shop!
@nopegoat Oh god, no bugs in ears!! Ahhhhh, I would’ve freaked out!
@foodislove I typically love those shows because I work in the medical field... but 2 pregnant ladies in a row got to me.... DH says I’ve been WAY more emotional this pregnancy.
@foodislove it took every single ounce of control I had to not completely freak out which would have scared him and made it that much harder. It was a really good thing H wasn't here for that. He doesn't have a poker face at all when it comes to that kind of stuff.
@Cbeanz Ahh!! So cute!! 😍 😍 We are about to do a big rooster and drake purge then maybe we can hatch out some more chicks and ducks.
@Bear14+ I had the tubal ligation talk with my OB at my last appt. I can't do it. I am so done having babies and being pregnant but anything permanent scares me.
Wife. Boy mom x6. Expecting #7. Wannabe homesteader. , 💙💙💙💙💙💙
@Bear14+ I need to have that conversation with my OB but like @nopegoat the idea of something permanent scares me. At the same time due to age and placement and 3 repeat c-sections and failure to carry to term 5 times I know I am reaching a danger zone area. I would welcome a 4th if I thought we could do it safely and securely, but I just don't know.
@nopegoat NOPE. I for sure would have flipped out. I can't imagine.
Has anyone else been told absolutely not about tubal litigation? I am 25 and about to have my 2nd, and my doctor said no doctor will do it for me at this point without a medical reason 🙄
Also, I GOT A KITTEN. I'm so excited, because I'm a first time cat mom.
@shawnacrest I've heard of that in regards to tubal ligation, and it's insane. I'm pretty sure that young men will not get push-back about a vasectomy but women are still treated as if we don't know what is best for our own bodies.
Has anyone else been told absolutely not about tubal litigation? I am 25 and about to have my 2nd, and my doctor said no doctor will do it for me at this point without a medical reason 🙄
The medical reason is that you have decided you are finished bearing children. I'm confused - do they need a permission slip or something?
@cbeanz It used to be regulated, unfortunately some old dudes have still convinced much of the medical community that women don't know how to think for themselves.
@Cbeanz apparently because I am fortunate enough to have had healthy pregnancies so far, they won't let me decide that I'm finished having children until I'm older or have 4 children. It's absolutely ridiculous.
@shawnacrest This is infuriating on so many levels. I'm sorry you're dealing with this. What state do you live in? I know some are worse than others when it comes to women's rights. I wonder if you can get better care out of state.
I'm definitely going to look around. A catholic hospital dominates my area, so I was really only asking for a referral to another doctor who would do it. She did everything but laugh though and acted like I would never find anyone willing to do it.
So yeah... in the US there basically is NO medical reason good enough for a tubal at age 25. It is fucked up and ridiculous, but I have had friends across the country all go through the same thing. And being "done" is not a good enough reason for insurance or th medical establishment.
Hell, even I will likely need my husband's permission to get one if I decide to.
@shawnacrest So so so dumb! If you’re done, you’re done! Your body, your choice. It’s sooo simple. My hospital asked me the same thing, since I’m having a RCS, they asked if I was done having kids and if I was considering a tubal. They told me they wouldn’t do it, nor do they give out birth control unless your “periods are so bad you need intervention”. So you fake it and tell them , “my periods are horrible.”
