For April - I’m looking forward to taking more walks since it’s now still daylight when we get home from work. Let’s see how long I can make that last 😂 anyone else looking forward to anything?
Yes! Walks and working out in the yard! I put our kids in a pack and play last weekend and started to clean up our yard...it was quite invigorating and quite the work out!
In no world did I imagine this baby making it to the actual month she's due, but I'm so glad she's still cooking and I'm so excited to meet her.
Other looking-forward-to's: long walks with my soon-to-be two girls, being able to spend time in our sunroom again, seeing what Nora thinks of her first aware-of-it Easter, being able to read again (it makes me nausous when I'm pregnant), turning off the heat and sleeping with the windows open.
Also, add me to team lawn maintenance. We moved into our house last April and had no idea what we were doing, so we were THAT house with the ugly, terrible lawn. I don't need it to be pretty this year, I just need it to not be the ugliest on the block!
I've also neglected the yard! and I'm looking forward to walks, too. I've taken a couple, but then it snowed again this weekend. Vinny points at the back door - she wants to be outside too.
I just finally started my 12 hr days this week!! Im looking forward to working less days and being outside more. This bipolar texas weather is nuts. The high on Saturday was 84 and a cold front camt through with a low of 48. I want SUNSHINE!! LOL.
@ashtuesday so excited for your addition! And thats awesome you made it to term!!!
How are you all handling diaper changes? Vinny cries and clings like it's the ultimate betrayal just to put her down half the time. The other half she is calm until she's naked and then the rolls over, tries to stand up, etc. By the time I get her changed I'm sweating and exhausted. hahaha
Yes to the crying when put down! The bigger tears for us are getting dressed/undressed - specifically shirts. For diaper changes I let her hold her diaper cream or a toy which usually distracts her enough to let us get her changed. The shirts we just go as quick as we can. I thought changing her as a two month old was hard 😂 silly me.
Yep, Nora just wants to roll over and play on her changing table and starts screaming when I won't let her. The ONLY thing that distracts her - and this is awful - is letting her hold the infant Tylenol and the syringe that came with it and try to figure out how they work together. She LOVES Tylenol. One of our close friends is a cop who does DARE, we might need to call him in for early intervention. 🤦🏻♀️
@shoretobe we've turned that into a peak a boo game. "Over the head, read? ... whoa were's Vinny? ...there she is! .. ok, this hand... now this hand..." Everything is a process.
@mccurleya we have this awful thing in Erie where it's freezing all day!
@DDRRT1982 we are close to Corpus Christi. Half of the cold fronts never reach us lol but its super annoying to need to dress for 3 different seasons in one day! @mccurleya yep! We have that now too its like chilly in the 50s in the mornings then 80s in the afternoons. So freaking annoying and now we are starting to add rain in the mix. So fun. 🙄
I'm feeling pretty good, thanks @DDRRT1982 ! Crazily, no updates: for a week, every other day I got hit with real contractions that would last 2-5 hours, then abruptly stop. But I haven't experienced any in the last week. My due date is 04/18; I'm making this Friday, 04/12 my last day at work since the commute just feels really rough at this point. I guess she'll just come when she comes!
Here I sit, eating consolation Cadbury mini eggs at 3:30 AM because again I got hit with real contractions during the night, and AGAIN I let myself believe labor was starting, and AGAIN they puttered out. 🤦🏻♀️ Come on, baby!
Ditto on pictures! My pictures from Timehop are so bittersweet remembering how little the baby was a year ago and how much she’s changed.
TW - sorry everyone just have to get this out
I just had a miscarriage at six weeks and now I just am ready for the Drs to tell us what went wrong and that we can try again even though I’m nervous about being pregnant again because we took this loss pretty hard.
Hope that spoiler thing worked and hope everyone is doing well!
I am so, so sorry @shoretobe. I hope the doctors give you answers soon. Anything you want to discuss about it here, know you'll find nothing but support.
In other news we’re going to an Easter egg hunt on the beach today. Am I wrong for thinking it’s a little silly since LO only crawls? It’ll be great though seeing her with other kids. I feel like I need to socialize her more since she really only sees other kids at swim class. Also I’m not really sure what “hanging out” is like for one year olds 😂
What I have read is that at this age, they can't play "together" with other kids, but will watch, listen and mimic. I also have to make an effort to get social opportunities for Vinny but she loves to see other people. I am trying to find an egg hunt, or maybe I'll set one up myself. She loves to put things in a container. So putting eggs in a basket should be fun for her.
@fatstagnation I’ve heard of mirror play - I guess the kids are together but kind of doing their own thing, but they learn from each other. Maeve loves watching people - I just feel bad sometimes because she’s mostly around adults but they told me last week at swim a little boy she met has a baby brother and Maeve was holding the baby’s hand while she shared a snack with her friend. @mccurleya same! She prefers taking everything apart and out to inspect.
Declan loves taking things apart too. My mom got him a set of nesting dolls for Christmas and it’s one of his favorite toys.
Serioualy this kid is testing the limits. Yesterday he took a heating vent out of the floor and was trying to climb in it. I was making dinner and asked my oldest to check on him and he started yelling for help. Declan ended up with a scratch on his leg. He couldn’t actually make it down the vent but why would this be fun?!?
oh Vinny also loves to pull things out. I had to rearrange her dresser because she was pulling every sock, hat, headband, bootie, etc out of the bottom drawer. And then I had to pick it all up, of course. She is totally into climbing the stairs. We'll be in one room and then all the sudden I'm like OMG she's halfway up. haha
Also, is 1 too young for a tantrum, because she had a freakout yesterday when I stopped reading to her. We'd gone through about 25 books!
I dont think 1 is too young for a tantrum! Lol LO got mad that i took away the toilet paper roll and literally tried to fling himself backwards out of my arms while screaming. I was shocked at his response lol
LO enjoys helping me with laundry. By unfolding everything and clearing out his dresser. So great lol
No, I don't think it's too young either. Nate threw a fit because I wouldn't let him bang his head on the wall, when I quit putting everything to my ear like a phone, and when I don't let him eat trash.... overall he's a great baby but will throw a fit when you take something.
He also likes to take everything off shelves and out of drawers. I don't even fold his laundry anymore. Haha I just shove it in the baskets. The other cubbies have books so I had to put board books on bottom and floppy books on top because he's torn up so many books..
Re: April Randoms
anyone else looking forward to anything?
Edit: words
- Meeting this baby!
- Watching Nora adjust to being a big sister!
- Reclaiming my human body!
- Being on maternity leave!

Sam hates diaper changes too. It’s a battle.
