Extreme itching second trimester

Anyone experiencing severe itching all over? I am literally covered in bruises and welts from scratching. My OBs office is totally blowing me off. I got the doc to call me back and he said “while the internet may say it’s cholestasis” to go to a dermatologist first. Went to one dermatologist yesterday, she said my skin was dry and it didn’t look like PUPPs. Went to another today and she said it looks like dermatographism. Prescribed Zyrtec. She said if im still itching in a FEW WEEKS give her a call.

I have been up for four straight nights unable to sleep.

*this is my third baby and I am 18 weeks.

If your doctors are saying you are OK then you are probably OK as annoying at is might be. Zyrtec takes a little time for it to work in your system. If you are really that concerned you need to call your OBgyn back.

I'm confused why your OB said the internet will say it's cholestasis but then blow you off. If any Doctor of mine was blowing me off, not even looking at my skin or running a blood test, I'd get a new Doctor. Are you experiecing hives? Sounds like the dermatologist may think that its allergy related. Our immune systems go crazy when pregnant. I struggled with insane hives a few weeks ago but benadryl and zrytec were not cutting it. Youre going to think that im crazy but the one combination of meds that finally worked was Zyrtec and Pepcid. Yes pepcid, i know its a heartburn medication. It has an off label benefit of being an antihistamine. Apparently zytec, benadryl, claritin, etc block one type of histamine but Pepcid blocks another. I learned this from an allergy specialist a couple years ago and then got the okay from my OB that both Zyrtec and Pepcid were safe to take for baby. Normally they would perscribe you steroids or other medications but the options are slim on whats safe for you and baby. Steroids dont even work on my hives but the over the counter combo does. Just something to think about. I hope you feel less miserable soon. I know this itchiness is maddening.

Same! I was super itchy and my legs were covered in bumps for a few weeks right aroun 18 weeks. I used a lot of eucerin lotion and that helped some, but it went away on its own after about 2.5 weeks. I’m 22 weeks along now and still am getting skin irritation and acne, but itching has died down.
