Re: TFAS 1/14

  • Month/Cycle: 1

    WTO/TWW: WTO

Ages of other child(ren):16 months this week

Thoughts about this cycle: No cycle yet. Going to the doctor this morning to get some answers about HA and what we can do to move this process along.

    Questions: none right now

Rant/Rave/Brag: DS has been a lot of fun lately. I am really enjoying this age.

GTKY: Do you have any friends from childhood that you are still very close with? If not, what is the next longest friendship you have in your life? I have friends from preschool that I text occasionally but don't see, the next longest friend who is a part of my daily life is 10 years. I find especially after having a baby my friendships have shifted.

    Month/Cycle: 8

    WTO/TWW: TWW

Ages of other child(ren): 2.25 yrs

Thoughts about this cycle: Trying to think positive but also increasingly discouraged.

Questions: Maybe if anybody has any advice/experience with kids putting things up their nose (see below).

Rant/Rave/Brag: So, we were at church yesterday and I look over and see DD playing with a small, green (lego?) plastic stick, about 3/4 inch long. Not sure where she found it, but she was sticking it in her ear. I took it away and said she can't play with it if she's going to stick it in her ear. Well, out of the corner of my eye, I see her pick up another identical little stick, and shove it up her nose. Immediately she starts sneezing. I grab her, panic, and run out of church. When we get home, we try to figure out if it's still in there (can't see it, but when we ask her if it's still in there, she says yes). I'm still freaking out and crying much more than her (at one point she patted my shoulder and said 'it's okay, Mommy' lol). Anyway so I decide to run back to church really quickly to search for the little stick, in case she had actually sneezed it out. I don't find it (although I do find the other one that I had taken away, which I grab to maybe show to the doctor). When I get home, and I hear screaming inside. Turns out, DD had sneezed and now the thing was sticking ever so slightly out of her nose. DH and I are trying to calm her since we're afraid her thrashing around will send it back up there! Finally with both our manhandling, DH is able to grab the end with a tweezer and pull it out. Then we rocked and cuddled for a few minutes to calm me down. I know it's normal for kids to do that, but DANG! I was not proud of my reaction, hopefully I can keep my cool next time.

GTKY: Do you have any friends from childhood that you are still very close with? If not, what is the next longest friendship you have in your life?
My closest childhood friend that I still contact regularly I met in 6th grade (age 11), close to 20 years ago! I still consider her my bestie, even though she lives in Alaska and I only get to see her every couple of years. We talk regularly on the phone, though.
  • Month/Cycle: 3/2

    WTO/TWW: TWW 12 DPO

    Ages of other child(ren): 6.5

Thoughts about this cycle: I thought this month was it, our timing was good and my temps look great but all the BFNs have me discouraged now.

    Questions: nah

Rant/Rave/Brag: had a good lunch with family yesterday

GTKY: Do you have any friends from childhood that you are still very close with? If not, what is the next longest friendship you have in your life? I keep in touch with childhood friends through FB. Most of our friends are couple friends now vs my friends or MH friends. After having a kid things just seem to shift.
  • @flintstone-2 I hope you get answers soon!  I agree 16 months is such a fun age!  I found it has only gotten more and more fun!

@jennifer_louise You can try the Mother's Kiss Method!  I have never tried it, but I know other parents who have, and it worked!
    https://www.webmd.com/children/news/20121015/mothers-kiss-expel-foreign-objects-kids-noses

@kimmer1412 Really sorry about your BFN!

    Month/Cycle: 6/3

    WTO/TWW: TWW

Ages of other child(ren): 26 months

Thoughts about this cycle: Not a good cycle for temp tracking (Sleep sucked, plus I lost my BBT), but otherwise our timing was really good, and we managed to stay true to our goal of keeping it spicy.  There was only one time out of 6 that I would have rather gone to sleep.

    Questions: Not really, no

Rant/Rave/Brag:  I had to stay home with DS last week because he had a fever.  Whenever he gets a virus, his asthma kicks in, so he always takes longer than most kids to get over it.  MH stayed home with him for 2 days, so he got a 5 day weekend of recovery in.  Fingers crossed he can stay healthy for a while.  MH got really sick really suddenly last night, and I hope it was whatever DS had and not something new.  I've managed to escape it so far...

GTKY: Do you have any friends from childhood that you are still very close with? If not, what is the next longest friendship you have in your life?  Yes.  My dad and his best friend have known each other since high school, and even bought their first houses next door to each other.  He has 3 girls, and the middle one is my age.  She and I have stayed close, despite her living all over the country.  We've known each other our whole lives.

  • Month/Cycle:  3/3

    WTO/TWW:  CD1- Hello AF  :p

Ages of other child(ren):  almost 2.5

Thoughts about this cycle:  glad it's over- ready to try again, determined to be better about tracking some things, wondering however if everything is a sign from God that maybe we just aren't going to have a 2nd

Questions: How much do your luteal phases vary? Like one month its 10 days, the next is 11, the next back to 10? How much variation is there?  What causes the variation?

Rant/Rave/Brag: Not much- my thoughts about this cycle pretty much sum it all up. And whoever said getting KU for #2 was easier- I think was wrong!

GTKY: Do you have any friends from childhood that you are still very close with? If not, what is the next longest friendship you have in your life? ***No, I'm friends on Facebook with some of the girls I went to elementary/high school age group with, and college roommies, but not that we talk on a regular basis.  I have some other girlfriends whom I have known for a long time, however being a mom definitely changes those relationships.  One of my good friends is a mom now also (we were not mom's when we met) and it's hard to coordinate schedules, even though our kids are young.  Also, play dates are not the best time to catch up- chasing 2 year olds.....maybe when they are older.

@shamrocandroll - fingers crossed for you it's this cycle!! And sorry about everyone being sick!! I hope you are able to avoid getting it!!

@kimmer1412 - sorry about the BFN's......TTGP is very trying on so many levels.  and couldn't agree more with how relationships shift and change post kids!

@jennifer_louise - argh!! Lego up the nose!! Terrible!!! I can't imagine!!  I would probably be a mess too!  We were worried our little man gave himself a concussion over the weekend, and were about to make a trip to the ER- so I can only imagine the thoughts going through your mind!! Glad you got it out!

@flinstone-2 - I hope you get some answers soon too....it's so frustrating to be TTGP and even more so when you feel like you have no answers or clue as to what is going on.  I don't know much of your background story, but I'm sorry.  And- yes 16 months is a fun age for sure, enjoy the snuggles while you can!!! I'm getting a tiny bit heart broken everyday over how independent our son is becoming.....He likes to walk up our stairs to go to bed, and I used to carry him every night  :'(

  • @jennifer_louise WHOA. That sounds like an eventful Sunday. I am so glad yall got it out. Our 3yo used to stick legos in his mouth and choked on one once. I didn't even know I knew how to finger sweep haha. Survival Mode.

@kimmer1412 Your temps still look good, I am still holding out hope for you.

@shamrocandroll We have used that method many times in this house. Boys vs legos, legos typically always win.

    Month/Cycle: 8/6

    WTO/TWW: TWW

    Ages of other child(ren): 6 & 3

Thoughts about this cycle: I am expecting AF this week. Was supposed to be a benched month, but here we are again. TW still haven't started a cycle after BO just Ovulated instead.

    Questions:

Rant/Rave/Brag: My boys were so so bad this weekend. On Saturday we took an hour to get groceries, I have never been so embarrassed in a store and when we got to the car we were all crying. 6YO because he had felt bad that I was crying 3YO because I didn't let him have any candy and me because I was so overwhelmed and forgot half of the crap I went for. Luckily they turned the attitudes around and we had a better weekend after that.

GTKY: Do you have any friends from childhood that you are still very close with? If not, what is the next longest friendship you have in your life? My best friend from 7th grade on is still my best friend today. She has boys the exact ages of mine and we see each other a couple of times a week. I am sad because she is about to move away and we will be hours apart, but we will have a room dedicated to sleeping over at their new house and they will have one at ours! Our boys are best friends and they are going on our cruise with us next month!

@MNturnsVA My LP is short and variable too! In my 7 TTC cycles I have 9-12, with my last two at 11. Sometimes it can mean a hormone imbalance (progesterone) but not always. I found this interesting read:

    https://www.thepreggerskitchen.com/short-luteal-phase

The most interesting part to me was this:
"Studies have found that all cycles with a luteal phase of fewer than 9 days were abnormal, and that 74%, 22% and 2% respectively of cycles with luteal phases of 10, 11 and 12 days were also abnormal"

(where abnormal means hormone imbalance). I haven't checked on the scientific rigor of the referenced cite (but lol, as a science nerd I so want to) but I found it interesting! Did you have a short-ish LP when you were TTC #1? I did, and had no trouble getting KU.

@shamrocandroll hope you stay healthy! And thanks for that! I think we found that page when we were desperately googling but thankfully didn't need to resort to it this time. I called my dad after (he's a retired veterinarian and my go-to person) and he said thankfully bodies are usually good at rejecting foreign objects. Then he told me a story about a dog who swallowed a roll of quarters (and passed it without problems). He has the best (read: grossest) stories. ♥️

    Editted to add cite.
  • Month/Cycle: 3/2

    WTO/TWW: ?

Ages of other child(ren): 16 months

Thoughts about this cycle: well we just keep gettin it on at least EOD so we ha e a decent chance.

Questions: I give up figuring this cycle out my thermometer is getting here next week though (ugh back order)

Rant/Rave/Brag: Hubby wants to tey the whole 30 diet and I'm not really thrill but I'm trying to be supportive. I weigh less than ore baby but he still has his "pregnancy weight"

GTKY: Do you have any friends from childhood that you are still very close with? If not, what is the next longest friendship you have in your life? My best friend and I have been friends since we were 8 years old!
  • @jennifer_louise  Looking back at the info I kept track of for the later part of this year, it looks like the LP was about 12 days on average.....the downside to this is my age and where we are at in our TTC process.....I'd love to go see a dr- but I'm sure my hubby will question whether it's necessary.....I don't remember about last time.
  • Month/Cycle: Cycle 6

    WTO/TWW: WTO

Ages of other child(ren): 2.5 years

Thoughts about this cycle: put a long update in WTO, but basically my OB is fairly certain of a PCOS diagnosis.  On today's ultrasound, I did have one dominant follicle, so we're going to keep at it this cycle (CD30 today).  If no O confirmed by OPK/temping in about 10 days, depending on labwork, we'll start Provera and then likely Letrozole.

Questions: I guess not right now.

Rant/Rave/Brag: Lazy, lazy, lazy weekend.  It was glorious.  But....for several reasons (school, upcoming travel, etc) - it's time to get serious about potty training.  Need to mark it on my calendar and MAKE IT HAPPEN, CAPTAIN.

GTKY: Do you have any friends from childhood that you are still very close with? If not, what is the next longest friendship you have in your life? My middle school / high school BF and I keep in touch, but we're not "close" per se.  My closest friends are my college friends, with a mix of med school friends in there too.  Crazy that my college friends and I have known each other 19 years, though!  (Hey.....I'm OLD.)
  • @flinstone-2 GL at the doctor!

@jennifer_louise OMG I'm so sorry! That is straight up a parent's worse nightmare. I'm so glad that YD is okay. My DS is starting to put things in his nose/ear/mouth but he's 4 and he never used to do it, so it's taken us by surprise.

@kimmer1412 Glad that you had a good lunch.

@shamrocandroll Oh no! Hope that your household gets better soon.

@MNturnsVA I totally agree, for me there's a bit more stress for TTC #2 then there was with #1. And don't think that you aren't meant to have another... in the scheme of things, it hasn't been too long yet.

@klmcguire I definitely have had that experience at the store  :#  But glad that they turned themselves around.

@daisy0322 Sorry that you are still in limbo  :s

    Month/Cycle: 4/4

    WTO/TWW: WTO

Ages of other child(ren): DS is 4

Thoughts about this cycle: Also a little hopeful. I feel like I'm definitely going a little overboard but if it's successful, then it wasn't for nothing.

    Questions: nope

Rant/Rave/Brag: Today is DS' first day back to school and it's pouring rain! I'm really hoping that he's good at school (we've been struggling with him sharing and when he doesn't get his way, he breaks down and cries).

GTKY: Other than my twin sister, not really.

  • @daisy0322:  my DH and I had a text exchange this AM about getting healthy.  He gets super obsessive about it, and I get annoyed, usually.

@jennifer_louise:  I have all these visions of myself being calm when things like that happen.  I'm not calm...Oh, well.  Glad it all turned out okay!
  • @lcking82 Good luck potty training!  We're coming up on 2 months in and I only wanted to run away from home a few times, so I'll call it a relative success.  He's doing great with it now, but the first couple of weeks were hell!

@flinstone-2 my son is 16 months too! It's so much fun but also exhausting.

@jennifer_louise I'm a RRT at a children's hospital! you wouldn't believe the stuff kids stick up their nose haha!  Bobby pins, nails, noodles, peas, make up applicators, rocks, etc. the good news it's typically it's not too hard to get out even if they end up inhaling it (occasionally it happens), typically it's extracted quickly.

    @Icking82 good luck potty training!

i called my doc to make an appointment and she can't get me in until February 1st. At least I have an appointment though! They're doing an ultrasound I guess but I'm not sure why.
  • @stephanie123456- our time for TTGP is limited because of our age......I'm 38, will be 39 in August, and my hubby is 46.  And the further away we get from being in the newborn stage, makes it hard to want to go back.  I HIGHLY value sleep, as does my hubby. There are some health things on hubby's side of the family that we aren't necessarily worried about, but they are things to be aware of.  It just makes me want to be able to rewind the hands of time more than anything, and we can't.    I'm interested in ordering the temp drop- but knowing that it takes 2 months to really "read" your cycles and get your patterns figured out and all that- does not make it super tempting to order one.  I've kind of us put us in this we'll try for 6 months box- without telling my hubby- and if it doesn't happen- it doesn't happen.  The emotional rollercoaster I was on the 1st month of it was REALLY hard- and things are good where we are- but I never saw myself as a mom to just our son.  And the more it's just us- the more I get used to it.  So many things would be different if we were younger- but we aren't.  So yes, while we are relatively new to the TTGP for #2 game- we aren't going to be playing for too long.
  • @MNturnsVA Ah, I see. I definitely know about the "going away from newborn" phase and the difficulty of thinking of going back. I'm also the type of person who needs sleep so I feel ya. Someone I knew in high school was talking about pumping and BF'ing her newborn and it brought flashbacks of all the struggles for me of pumping at work, etc.

  • @daisy0322 I can't imagine the crazy things kids stick into their orifices (orifi?). One thing I was thinking (but didn't say, obviously) was how could DD be so freaking stupid? Why did that seem like a good idea? But, alas, she's only a toddler, and a curious being.
As for your ultrasound, maybe it's because you'll be KU by then!! (I'll be hoping that anyways).

    @shamrocandroll noooo! Feel better!!

@stephanie123456 better to go overboard than underboard and wish you'd done more! Is your hubby all better from his surgery? (aka will HIO be easier this month?)

@lcking82 same boat with potty training. Just gotta suck it up. MAKE IT HAPPEN CAPTAIN is my new personal motto .

@jennifer_louise I would love that! She told me to keep taking hpts and BD EOD "and maybe we will have some happy news by then". She also said it could be hormonal Im balance or just an adjustment post nursing or that I wouldn't be the first women to not turn a positive pregnancy test at home. Which is super up beat and very much like her but I don't want her getting my hopes up.

Update: talked to the nurse pretty sure she's thinks  im an idiot who's taking hpts instead of opks
  • @stephanie123456 - yea, I have a whole new appreciation for moms who BF full time, I was not able to do it, and I'm jealous at times of that.  But yes, it is SO much work!!! And because of our age, I don't see my hubby wanting to try but for so long just because of all these other things.  He will be down for the "trying" part- but at some point- I feel like he would feel "too old" to be having a newborn around.

    Month/Cycle: 1/1

    WTO/TWW: WTO

Ages of other child(ren): 22 months

Thoughts about this cycle: Well had peak smiley face today on my opk so DH and I were able to have a quickie this am before he left on his work trip. We HIO yesterday and Saturday also so hopefully that is good. We might do it Wednesday night when he comes back just in case.

Questions: Last time I got KU I ate pineapple core after O, has anyone else done this and remember how many days you are supposed to eat it for?

Rant/Rave/Brag: Terrible twos starting early- DD had an epic meltdown this weekend when we were out and about because I packed a green cup and she wanted a blue one....ugh. We did get one poop in the potty on Saturday and Sunday but she still is clueless about pee.

Also I am a big game of thrones fan and they announced the start date of the final season and I am super pumped!

GTKY: Do you have any friends from childhood that you are still very close with? If not, what is the next longest friendship you have in your life? My two oldest best friends that I am still close with and talk to I have known since Sophomore of high school so almost 20 years! Next oldest after that I have been friends with since sophomore year of college so 16 years.

  • Month/Cycle: 1/1 (Officially can start!)

    WTO/TWW: WTO

    Ages of other child(ren): 4 and 2

Thoughts about this cycle: Last cycle was 50 days (!!!), and not knowing when I ovulated was terrible. Being more in control with temping, charting, etc., will hopefully minimize the frustration.

    Questions: Nope

Rant/Rave/Brag: It's been a long couple days with the snow. My kids are going crazy being cooped up (fun outside didn't last long), and my 4yo is sick anyway, so don'y want him getting worse. Praying for school tomorrow!

GTKY: Do you have any friends from childhood that you are still very close with? If not, what is the next longest friendship you have in your life? Honestly, my only real friends are from childhood or teen years; living far away from family/friends and being the only ones with kids where we are really is pretty isolating. My closest friends are from around age 10-12.

  • daisy0322 my doctor scheduled me to come back for an ultrasound in 2 weeks to check my ovaries and my uterus. Yesterday then ran a full PCOS panel to see where my hormone levels were. They also did a pregnancy test (negative of course) and an HCG blood test and thyroid test with the panel. I can't remember exactly your story but if your son is 16 months maybe you're like me? I haven't had a period since the one before I got pregnant with my son. The doctor said this is pretty abnormal as it has been >3 months since I stopped nursing. They believe it is HA, but want to check for PCOS in case.

Spartanrd4  I ate pinapple too. I think it is 5 days? Until implantation?

BTW I'm really liking reading everyone's friendship GTKYs.

Thoughts about this cycle: I was so shocked by how short the last one was and didn’t expect AF for like a week. Either we completely missed the FW (unlikely as I had EWCM and a + OPK) or my LP was very short, which it seems to have been the cycle before, my first since giving birth).

Questions: How long have your LP been since birth? Did you notice a difference when BF?

Rant/Rave/Brag: my son is getting over a nasty stomach bug and cold, just in time to start tantrums :(

@flinstone-2 my son is 16 months and I weaned about 5 weeks ago! I had 2 typical periods in October and November that were my standard 27 days apart but nothing since. A bunch of positive opks with constant EWCM but all negative hpts. I got pregnant with my son on the first try and my periods have always been fairly regular. The nurse on the phone said they highly doubt pcos due to history but didn't allude to anything else.
  • @daisy0322 oh wow that is crazy! Did you lose any weight or increase exercise in that time?

@flinstone-2 no there was no change other than I quit nursing because my son decided he was done. I weigh about 127 lbs which is what I weighed pre baby too
  • @flinstone-2 and @Spartanrd4 - tell me more about this pineapple thing!! I've never heard about it...

    Month/Cycle: 4/3

    WTO/TWW: TWW

Ages of other child(ren): 6.5 years

Thoughts about this cycle: We had really great timing this month!!  DH said we made a baby but I'm starting to get discouraged... we shall see in a few days.

    Questions:

Rant/Rave/Brag: DS had a rough week at school last week with listening and talking, which is very unlike him (as he's a little rule follower in school), so we had to have a serious talk about how to behave at school and what consequences will happen if he doesn't start listening to his teacher again.  He wrote her an apology letter and things turned right back around the next day!  I guess I made my point pretty clear to him haha

GTKY: Do you have any friends from childhood that you are still very close with? If not, what is the next longest friendship you have in your life?  - My longest friendship is with my "person" of 18 years.  Everyone says we look a like, although we don't see it, and is constantly asking if we are sisters!  Today is her birthday :)

  • @spartanrd4 I also did it, but all parts of the pineapple and I’m pretty sure the core is what matters most. Either way, it’s said that the bromelain in it is supposed to help, but I read that you should eat it before ovulation in some places and after in others. I’m not seeing much to prove it scientifically.

    @flinstone-2 Heyyyy! I thought I recognized you and @daisy0322

  • @kpearse99 happy birthday to your friend! The pineapple thing is like @NYTino24 mentioned. You're supposed to eat it after O for about 5 days. I believe the bromelain is supposed to help implantation. I bought some at the grocery-- you need the core to support the "theory".

  • Hi @NYTino24, I also remember you from the boards!! I landed in the June '16 BMB. When we started trying again last year, I noticed my luteal phase was a little shorter than pre baby. It's always been on the short side, but it dropped to 7 days on average without progesterone.
  • @cdnrunning Heyyyy! Nice to see you here again!

  • Hello, I just re-introed. I found it hard to participate due to some work and life stuff, but I'm back and I hope to be a more consistent poster. I have no one to discuss this stuff with in real life.

    Month/Cycle: 3

    WTO/TWW: WTO

Ages of other child(ren): Our son is almost 2.

Thoughts about this cycle: Nothing yet.. CD1, gimme all the chocolate.

Questions: Not really, but one thing I am quite concerned about is affording 2 in daycare. We live in a pretty high cost area. We will not get a discount with the second since we already have a 10% discount on our account. Not sure what I'm expecting anyone to say besides budget, save, cut costs etc., but if anyone has tips I'd love to hear them.

Rant/Rave/Brag: DS is starting to talk more and its cute. Rant, we've had some very difficult daycare drop-offs the past few days. I don't really know why as he loves his teachers and used to just strut right in like he owned the place :(

GTKY: Do you have any friends from childhood that you are still very close with? If not, what is the next longest friendship you have in your life?
My BFF from kindergarten is still one of my BFFs. Our other BFF we started to get close with in like 6th or 7th grade.
  • @creamcheeseplease We hired a family financial planner 3 years ago when we started trying.  It took us 3 years of hard work and saving and paying attention to every dollar in and out, but we are out of credit card debt and at our safety net savings goal as of last month!  Now as long as we can maintain that, we'll have that extra money we were using toward paying debt and extra savings to apply toward daycare costs for a second.

  • @NYTino24 Okay great, I bought a whole pineapple and going to start eating it today because I think I either O'd yesterday or the day before.
  • @flinstone-2 I hope your appointment was helpful.

@jennifer_louise that experience with DD sounds so stressful! I don't have personal experience with DS doing that (yet) but my brother and cousins put stuff up their nones frequently when we were all kids and my parents die laughing telling the stories now. Of course they didn't think it was that funny at the time and a couple times my cousins ended up in the ER, once when my parents were babysitting them before my parents had kids.

@kimmer1412 so sorry about the BFN.

@MNturnsVA My LP has never varied from 10 days, which is on the short side I guess. @jennifer_louise posted some interesting info. I agree it is hard to use playdate time to catch up!

@shamrocandroll  I LOLed at your assessment of BD this time around. 1/6 where you'd rather have gone to sleep is pretty good IMO! Thank you for posting about your financial success! That is a great idea about the planner. Congratulations on paying off your debt!

@klmcguire so sorry you had a tough experience at the grocery! My son is totally like that too and is an absolute terror 9/10 in public.

@daisy0322 Whole30 scares me! MH is also on a diet (he has a lot of weight to lose honestly) and I am also trying to be supportive but one time I mentioned I wanted McDonalds and he gave me such a withering look. I felt so bad! (But I still wanted McDs.)

@SpartanRd4 that is great that your DD is starting to potty train! My son is about the same age as your DD and I seriously doubt his ability to do that. He isn't as good at communicating although he is getting there.

@NYTino24 I didn't track while BF, but I think many women can have a shorter LP while BF.
