Post Delivery Meal

Inspired by @batmama31’s question in randoms - thinking ahead what will your first meal post delivery be?

Re: Post Delivery Meal

  • With DS, I wasn’t allowed to eat really (clear liquids for 24h post-delivery) so I’m not counting the beef broth and tea I had. My first REAL meal was late the next night - a masssssive medium rare cheeseburger and garlic parm fries my SIL brought from a bar down the street. Oh LORD was it good.

This time I’m really not sure - I’m delivering at a different hospital so I’ll have to check what takeout is nearby.  Though TBH it’ll probably be a burger again.

  • Oh geez... I feel like I will probably be craving the same stuff I'm craving now (i.e, pizza and all the carbs).  Thankfully I'm not on any dietary restrictions for health reasons, and I don't eat sushi/lunch meats/alcohol normally.

I think I'll probably make DH sneak in some really good pizza or something post-delivery.  Ooh, maybe eggplant parm.

Darn it, @MRDCle.  Now I'm hungry .

  • I’m with @batmama31 on the sushi idea. I keep showing DH photos on the Rock’s Instagram of his Sunday sushi cheat meals and I’m like “this is the level of sushi I want after the baby is born” (aka an obnoxious amount of sushi). Sushi is the one thing I have forbidden DH from participating in during my pregnancy. He gets to keep his coffee, beer, and whatever else he wants, but no sushi cause it’s not fair, it’s all I want.

DH told my aunt (who will likely be the first person to visit us in the hospital because she’s local to us) that she better bring some sushi with her if she’s expecting me to be happy to see her lol.
  • DD was born at 10:42pm and I had complications so I got a 1am snack that was like juice, crackers and cheese. I actually don’t remember anything I ate after that till I got home and went on an immediate ice cream run.

This time I’m not letting anyone in to see the baby unless they bring me food. Preferably In-n-Out or donuts or tacos (shrimp from my favorite local place or shredded chicken from Jimboys) or pizza. There apparently is this great pizza place down the street from my office which happens to be across the street from the hospital that I have been meaning to try.

I will also accept desserts and various chocolates.

They say they don’t aim for you to be hungry and unhappy on the GD diet. But I always am.
    this is my backup acct.

  • @jlklec19 I just yesterday sent one of The Rock’s sushi posts to my best friend last night :D

    sorry @kangstadt :p

  • Oh man. I may not want DH to leave to go get something, but if one of my in laws was willing, I’d probably go for a chicken bacon ranch sub from Firehouse subs, or a grilled wrap from a local place called Longboards.
  • Literally anything from the place across the street (the Recovery Room, great name) is better than my hospital’s cafeteria or room service. Unless I deliver before 30 weeks and go to the flagship hospital, where room service is delicious (and stir fry gives you the most food) and the cafeteria is similarly great (at least, during lunch hours).

I don’t have much in the way of cravings, especially cravings I can’t just go ahead and have, so I don’t think I’m going to be dying for a specific thing.

  • After my csection for DD, I had a cheese omelet the next morning.
  • omg, @MRDCle, a red burger sounds SOO good!!

I didn't even think about how L&D complications could dictate your post delivery meal!! I mean, aside from risking yours & baby's lives, that's the fucking WORST!! I pray for all the april mamas that we have L&Ds that don't cock block our sushi/steak/burger/sub sandwich dreams! I dunno about you guys, but I've been looking forward to sushi since seeing that BFP 6 months ago. I will be god damned if someone tells me I can't have my sushi!

during my first pregnancy, everyone was telling me to think good & hard about my post delivery meal and assign someone to deliver it to me. I didn't know what I wanted until I was in the moment, so I sent husband to cheesecake factory to get me the shrimp & angel hair pasta, and a tuxedo cheesecake. I usually can only manage to eat half of the pasta. but that night, I devoured the entire thing, AND the whole cheesecake! I didn't even realize how hungry I was until I was 3 bites away from cleaning my to-go box. so for any new mamas reading this, trust me- you are going to be HUNGRY.
  • I never even thought of this! It's definitely a toss up between sushi, a greasy cheesy burger with bacon, or alfredo something. Now I have to figure this out!

  • Wait, can I get a good dark porter or maybe a stout, or two glasses of Pinot noir?
  • @lyse01 BIL brought us a bottle of “champagne” that opened in the hospital. I wouldn’t judge :D

  • A giant poke bowl. Salmon, lots of tuna, avocado, cream cheese, edamame, the works 😭 I’ve eaten sushi a couple of times while pregnant, but only rolls that have little or no fish in them. I can’t wait to really dig in to fish! Also, a charcuterie board. With alllllll of the cured meats and cheeses and jams.
I think I’m being too ambitious here.
  • It's been consistently on my mind to go to Dairy Queen on our way home from the hospital. A friend gave me a DQ gift card for my birthday and in my mind it's being saved for a post-delivery treat. :-)
My hospital treats the mother and partner to a celebratory dinner after birth. We both are already set on ordering steak. And insurance covers it somehow. ?
Other than that, I'd like to have a big & sloppy cheeseburger.
  • With DD I had my SIL bring me a bagel sandwich from mcdonalds with a hashbrown and strawberry shake. The shake was heavenly. This time around we'll see what I'm craving afterward, I'll be able to eat during this go around so I won't be as starving but I'm sure I'm going to want another strawberry shake from somewhere.

  • Transferring my answer from the random thread:

I will probably ask for In-N-Out.  it’s down the road and I love it. Plus they serve food I can eat. I’m going to have to pack in all the meals I eat while at the hospital because I’m on a special diet (prescribed) but very strict and the nutrientionist at the hospital basically laughed when I asked if the cafeteria could handle it.
  • After DD1 I had a club from Penn Station, DD2 was chicken teriyaki noodles from noodles and company, and DD3 was a grilled chicken sandwich from the hospital cafeteria in the middle of the night. No clue what I’ll have this time but, that first meal after delivery is always the best meal ever!

  • i might have to change my order... this is from a local restaurant...

  • @batmama31 that looks amazing
  • We have this amazing Italian deli in Queens that makes a sandwich called “The Bomb”. I have been craving (and avoiding) deli meat this whole pregnancy, so we’ve told a couple of our good friends who live in the neighborhood that their duty is to bring me one in the hospital!!
  • I had waffles for breakfast that morning with butter, and peanut butter spread over with syrup! It was heaven with a huge bowl of fruit!!!!
  • All of the Sushi I cab ear  and two Japanese beers 😋
  • I have a tradition of always eating chick fil a after my deliveries. So dang yummy.

  • Guys, my app malfunctioned and posted my reply a billion times. So sorry! @MRDCle, I guess I’d just go the next day. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Don’t jinx me! 😂
  • After my DD, I was craving hot dogs from a local place, they have those red hot dogs that I assume are pure nitrates. I ate two all the way, french fries, and a Coke. This time I'm thinking about a burger from a local place across the street from the hospital. Luckily, last time the hospital had really good food so I only ordered out once.
  • I had pizza with DD. I haven't thought about it yet with this one. Maybe a giant order of sushi? Or, ya know, pizza again. Pizza forever.

  • While still in hospital, I think I'll probably just want some good old greasy McDonalds. My husband also discovered this rum during pregnancy that smells SO DANG GOOD and I haven't been able to taste it yet, so he's been instructed to bring a bottle of that. I have some (possibly naïve) visions of me with a baby in one arm and a glass of rum in the other right after she comes out. But after we're out of hospital, I have lined up some SERIOUS demands in terms of food I want including a crazy amount of sushi, raw oysters from this place in town that does a raspberry sauce over them, a chacuterie board with all the cured meats and soft cheeses, a REALLY SMOOTH carmenere and maybe an extra dirty gin martini. Possibly all in one sitting...
  • I've still had sushi (not raw) and deli sandwiches so I'm definitely not depriving myself to where I NEED to have something post delivery. I think I'll let my hormones judge what I really want. But some serious BBQ would be amazing once I'm able to eat (c-section, heyyyyyy).
  • I haven't restricted myself from anything except raw fish so i would want a poke bowl from yard house and some sushi. But since I delivered a baby I also want Pizza from blaze and food from shake shack.

    Also Some wine please.

I didn't have a good delivery last time. I had no food except beef broth for almost 72 hours. I was in a incoherent bubble for the next 2 days so I really didn't enjoy anything until we got home.

  • 100% getting a cold cut sub. I’m DYING for one.
  • Definitely an embarrassing amount of sushi - it's all I crave lately.   Can we start counting down yet? Lol
  • @kristenhk I've BEEN counting down ha!

@wildcosmiclovePizza forever. Truer words have never been spoken.

  • After reading this thread I feel like the only one who doesn't like sushi. *shrug* I just don't eat fish in general.
  • @gollygeeitsamy i don’t like sushi either. I do like a nice piece of grilled fish though. And I like scallops. But I also tend to cook them myself, I don’t like them as much at a restaurant.
  • I'm SO hungry reading all these posts! I have no idea what I'm going to have. I do love sushi, but it's not something I've been craving. Deli meat, on the other hand....now that sounds good. Or a medium to medium-rare steak.......And I'd LOVE some alcohol but will probably try to abstain until I learn how to pump n dump
