I have heard my insurance only covers Ameda which doesn't get great reviews. Should I splurge for something different or wait to see how I do?
Our insurance only covered Ameda as well. I tried to make it work, but ended up buying a Medela. I’m really glad I did. I got so much more milk when I pumped. And it was way easier to get replacement parts for it.
@lappymom2019 I would double check that. My insurance says on their website they only cover Medela and Ameda but I really wanted a Spectra (I'd heard they are quieter and at the time I wasn't planning on quitting my job and didn't want to be super obvious when pumping in my office). The Spectra S2 (not battery powered) was actually fully covered and the Spectra S1 (both battery and wall charge usable) was a $75 upgrade.
This was the website I ordered from and when I wasn't clear on if it was covered, I just called them and they were super helpful! https://www.healthybabyessentials.com/Home
Double post but I kind of want to try the Freemie this time around since I already have the Spectra S1! Has anyone else tried it? I bought the cups on clearance when BRU was going out of business but never tried them since I was done BFing at that point.
@lappymom2019 Definitely call around to different medical supply companies. The one at my hospital only did Medela, but I knew I wanted Spectra, so I found another that could do it. It's super rare for an insurance to restrict to a certain brand. Usually it's to a certain type (single or double) and/or dollar amount.
Also, yeah, we probably should break this to another thread, so it's findable in 3rd Tri when more people need it.
@kvh22 yes! All for a breast pump thread! I am having such a hard time finding one that has good reviews from experts and good reviews from consumers! I know everyone is going to have different experiences with them, but I'm struggling!
@sleepy33 we went on a labor day sale, got the best bed they carry in a cal king with a couple sets of sheets and the protector and the cooling cover and delivery and set up and only skipped on the foot raising feature and spent 6300 out the door. It's expensive but they probably have even better deals for black Friday. They also have great financing options. We have 3 yrs no interest on ours. And they have a thirty day try it out policy so they tell you to keep it for thirty days and then say you don't like it, they'll pick it up and give you your money back... Probably minus the delivery fee.
@kbeers13@sleepy33 I have no experience actually sleeping on a sleep number bed but a coworker was able to return the mattress b/c his wife ended up hating it but they had to keep the frame or base or w/e and didn't get their money back on that.
I think I’m at the start of leg cramps. When I was pregnant with my daughter I had the most excruciating leg cramps every morning. This morning I woke up and stretched and felt everything tightening in my calves. I was hoping it wouldn’t happen again 😭😭
Had that with my son. Its a sign of low potassium. You can tell your doctor or start eating banana's, kiwi's, avacados, or drink coconut water. The doctor will give you potassium tablets. But I preferred coconut water since the smell and taste of banana's make me gag and the tablets where like horse pills.

@DuchessOfCambridge my nausea turned into all day sickness at 10 weeks too! I went away around 12.5 for me. Hopefully the fact that it’s all day means it will end early?
@DuchessOfCambridge does eating help? Even though food sounded awful, I found that eating a string cheese or ritz crackers with cheese or even some popcorn every 2 hours helped.

This is my cure for sure. Last night, I thought I might actually ralph for the first time in either pregnancy, like I really felt terrible. I forced down a few bites of dinner and it cured me. I mean, I wish this wasn't my cure cause it's part of why I gain so much, but it's better than puking.
@DuchessOfCambridge "can go shave its back now" 😂 I've never heard that expression.
But I hear ya. I was feeling a lot better, but now the aversions are back in full swing and I've thrown up 2 or 3 times this week already. Been getting super nauseous when I wake up but eating helps.
@mrskoz428@sleepy33 it helps for a little while but then it comes back and I just cannot eat that much haha! Around dinner time it becomes immune to the power of food and I just feel sick until I take unisom. So I'm not much fun in the evenings.
I've had the most miserable week with nausea. I've thrown up at least 1-2x every day, 3x on Monday and 4x today. And the nausea just sticks around all day, and doesn't go away mid afternoon like before.
And I really want to start a new board that is called "What not to say to your wife when she's throwing up for the forth time today". For today's entry, I would say not to ask your wife if she wants you to video her throwing up while peeing her pants so the baby can see it in the future.
But then he makes up for it by cleaning our pantry, which mice had a field day in recently.
@DuchessOfCambridge I'm thinking it's the storm before the calm? I've heard from lots of people that this is one of the worst weeks and it gets better from here. In some ways I'm thankful for it, because then I know the little peanut is still ok in there.
@mrskoz428 It sure is! The first time it happened to me years ago, I thought I literally broke both my legs. The doctor I was seeing at the time had no clue this was a side-effect. 🙄 Subsequent MRI of my one leg shows that I have a huge dead spot in there where there's no blood flow, known as avascular necrosis. Thankfully, this shouldn't cause me any problems as long as it's not close to a joint. People who've had this happen in their hip, for example, have to have major surgeries. Just another awesome side-effect of the wonder drug!
@mrskoz428 and @DuchessOfCambridge awww thank you so much, ladies! You don't know how much your words actually mean to me! I know I don't have something super horrible like cancer or something, but it's still nice to be recognized for fighting!
@expandcontract seriously, you are so, so strong! I've been super impressed with your resilience and (seemingly) positive attitude, as much as we, as internet strangers, can tell.
I can't really remember from last pregnancy but my bloating has lessened the past 2-3 days (I'm 12 weeks today). Is this normal? I feel a little less nauseous, too but I can't tell if this is just the placenta taking over and therefore the hormones lessening slightly or if I should be concerned. Ultrasound this afternoon so I guess I'll get an answer either way
@expandcontract Agree. You are so so strong. You seem to be dealing with so many things and continue to have such a good attitude. I hope things will ease up for you!
@kvh22 I also feel less bloated. I noticed it a few weeks ago. Maybe our bodies are just adjusting more the closer we get to 2nd trimester? Hope your appt goes well today!
@kvh22 I’m noticing the same thing about the bloating! @secicc12 Glad to hear it’s normal! I know symptoms get far less severe come second trimester (👋🏼) but having them seem so minor is definitely nerve racking!
Thanks, everyone! I'll probably update after our appointment but it'll be later tonight for most of you since our appointment is this afternoon and we're on the west coast. I realized on Wednesday that I created the appointments thread last week and never did it this week. Oops!! Then it felt self serving to create it at the end of the week so I could post in it.
Lol at everyone saying symptoms ease up in second tri. I’ll be13 weeks tomorrow and my nausea is just as bad as ever. I kind of feel like I’m going to be stuck with this until delivery. 😩 I’ve been kind of managing it during the day with diclegis and coffee, but by evening nothing can help me. Especially on days I haven’t gotten enough sleep. Which my daughter has been making sure I’m up during the night lately. Sigh. I’m still grateful for this pregnancy. I’m still grateful for this pregnancy. I’m still grateful for this pregnancy. Amen.
I'm so ready for 2nd tri. This level of fatigue is almost depressing. Yesterday I had to leave coffee with my girlfriends early (1st time we were able to get together in a month) because I was just to tired to sit there anymore (and I needed to go home and puke). What kind of lazy is it to be tired to sit and talk to friends? I never want to go anywhere or do anything lately. I know I need to get out, but I just don't have the energy. A trip to the grocery store wears me out. I took some iron today -hoping that helps without causing to many issues.
@poshspice I'm sorry your symptoms aren't easing up... with both my kids, I struggled with nausea and vomiting throughout 2nd tri. With DD2, it lasted well into the third trimester. Some of the fatigue did ease up though. But I have always secretly harboured a grudge against women who get the "typical" pregnancy with little to no nausea in second tri.
