@offtoneverland incredibly grateful to receive the update about Sydney. She (and you) totally rocked this scary situation and you have so much to be proud of and grateful for!
@offtoneverland I just read your story. I'm so happy to hear you and Sydney are doing well. You both have been through a lot and i hope you can both go home soon and rest and recover. Welcome to the world Sydney!
We got the pathology results yesterday and it was not cancer. Hallelujah! The surgeon said she will live a completely normal life and doesn't need any more surgeries or treatment. The odd thing is though that pathology said it wasn't a tumor at all--it was a hematoma (a bleed). It was all within the "capsule" surrounding the kidney so even though so many teams of doctors, specialists, and surgeons had been consulted, everyone thought it was a tumor. The surgeon said looking back had he known what he knew now, he maybe could have saved the kidney, but going into surgery they believed there was a 30% chance of cancer, so they could not cut into the tumor at all, otherwise they would have risked spilling cancer cells all over her abdomen. The surgeon said he had never seen anything like this before, which is crazy to hear from a very experienced pediatric surgeon. He asked if I'd had any trauma during my pregnancy, but I didn't. But anyways, all is good! She will live a perfectly normal life, aside from having to watch her blood pressure closely when she gets into her 40s and 50s. We are so thankful and feel so lucky. Our girl is going to be just fine! She started taking her bottles better yesterday, so I'm hopeful we're on the road to being discharged from the hospital! As always, thank you to everyone for sending prayers and good thoughts our way.
