Re: UO

  • Umm....headbands on little girl babies are silly. Best I got. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • @sleepy33 mine would never keep them in.

Also, you're doing better than me. I've got nothing today and can't make my brain work to think of something.

Agreed.  Also, baby shoes are pointless.

ETA- agree about the headbands.  I love This Is Us.
  • I did not like the book “Girl, Wash Your Face”.

  • I liked baby headbands but they never worked on my daughter and I was able to start putting actual bows in her hair about 3 months, which I liked better.

My UO of the day is showing off ultrasound pictures. No one wants to see the inside of your uterus. Now we got a 4D ultrasound of DD at 32 weeks and that was pretty cool bc it looked like her, but even my MIL was appalled by it and she was obsessed by everything in my pregnancy. Also- yes I showed off my u/s pictures, so I’m guilty of it too.
  • @sleepy33 @RoseShadow873 so I am absolutely against those huge bows and headbands like this one but they make tiny little newborn bows on nude nylon headbands that are really cute. It has to be proportional. I probably didn't use them until closer to one month but they were adorable. Now I like slightly bigger bows as DD is getting older.

Like @k2k2tog whether DD keeps them on (and hats, as well) is hit or miss. Usually more miss unless she forgets it there.

  • I mean, I don't always think all bows/headbands are ugly (although many are ridiculous looking), but I just don't really get the need to brand the baby as a girl by strapping something to her head right away. And they just seem distracting in pictures. If I have a girl, I would rather have pictures where I can see her whole head and not some silly accessory. It's just not for me.
  • Speaking of ultrasounds, my UO is that I find the 4D ones creepy.
  • @RoseShadow873 I might be with you on that... I did see a few episodes and the first one definitely made me cry, but I find it just too serious. Not my kind of TV, I guess.

  • @kvh22 ironically, DD2 looooooves hats. But, try to a put a headband on her and nope - it's off in two seconds.

  • But like...are the bows and stuff just to make them look feminine or something? They don't serve a real purpose right. I know nothing of girl babies.

@RoseShadow873 No you didn’t about This is Us! Kidding, but seriously, I love it, and I’m  way too attached to the characters. 😂

@sleepy33 and everyone else (haha) I think bows and headbands on baby girls are precious if they’re proportional like @kvh22 said. If we have a girl, I’m she will never keep them on, but I’ll try my hardest! ETA since I didn’t see new posts: I don’t see it as “branding her a girl”. I just think they’re sweet.
  • @RoseShadow873 This is Us tries too hard and some of it is so, so corny.  But, I still watch it because I'm a sucker for that kinda crap.

  • The writers of This Is Us actually pull a lot of their own personal experiences into the show, it’s part of why I love it so much.

I think the little bows are sweet and not overbearing but I don’t like the huge bows and turban style headbands. I also don’t think it brands baby a girl any more than, say, wearing a dress.

  • DH has a very weird hatred of bows and headbands on baby girls. I don't really care either way, but will admit that they don't look comfortable on the babies. We have never put anything on DD's head but unfortunately that means that most people see her and assume she's a boy, but whatever.

I love This Is Us. I love all the characters and the acting is amazing. I actually don't get upset over the obvious sad tragic stuff, but instead can get hit in the feels whenever they're just talking about real life, relate-able stuff, which is mostly what the show is about. You just can't help but love the whole family and I think it's easy to find some connection with someone, and feel emotional on their behalf.

UO - I'm not a fan of adults doing professional photo shoots. Maternity photos especially, but even parents+kids, frolicking in the field, engagement photos on the train tracks and by the barn, etc., are all so cringey to me. I think maybe it wouldn't be so bad if these pictures weren't blasted on FB each time they happened and instead were just tastefully framed at home, but that's never, ever the case.

  • @peachy13 I totally had engagement pictures on train tracks and am loling 😂 I didn’t share them until our one year anniversary though. The only ones I don’t care for are maternity shoots. I do like newborn photos but not the ones in studios where the babies are put in weird outfits and positions. Love the more casual ones of baby and parents.

I mean, I like them all because babies 😍 but prefer the more natural looking ones

  • @DuchessOfCambridge loolll i think half the recently married population has photos on train tracks haha. I think newborn and kid portraits are nice, and casual/natural so much better. I think whenever I see the adults in them, it's people I know, and I'm always like I can't believe Sean agreed to wear that and do that, and it's just kind of funny.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge I’m laughing too. We did engagement pics in a field, and we’ve done newborn pictures (just at our house though) and family pictures too. 😂 I share them on Facebook for our family and friends we don’t see often to see. Plus, I think they’re pretty cute 💁🏼‍♀️
  • My UO - stolen from a mom in my Aug 17 BMB - I don't get the hype over Hocus Pocus. I never enjoyed it and avoid watching it like the plague.

Wait... you mean like, family photos? I love seeing people's professional family photos and we try to get professional or semi professional (ie, our camera with a self timer or a friend) photos done once a year. It's nice to have the record of our family growing and changing and if we didn't do it, we would pretty much never all be in a photo together.
I like photos with just kids but I think it's awkward when the adults are in there too. Maybe that's just how I grew up? No one ever had their parents in the professional photos with them.

  • @msb615 we’re doing updated family photos at Thanksgiving, I’m so excited! I did share my favorites of our newborn photos on Facebook. I don’t remember why I didn’t share engagement photos when I got them.  Sometimes I’m an AW 💁‍♀️

  • @sleepy33 yes! I tried to “love” your post but it’s still giving me errors

  • @DuchessOfCambridge That’s ok. You and me both 😉 We really need to get updated pictures done too. We haven’t had any taken since DS turned 1. He’s 2 now, and I feel like we should do pictures just the 3 of us one last time before baby #2 gets here. Mom guilt I guess. 🤦🏼‍♀️
  • @peachy13 if/when we move to FB I’ll show you all my train track photos 😂😂 Also I don’t think you’re being a jerk. It’s a good UO!

  • @sleepy33 YES!! I literally would not be in any pictures if it weren’t for having someone take family pictures. My husband doesn’t ever think to take pictures. Of course I have tons of him and DS though. 🙄
  • I think family photos can be nice if they feel natural and actually show the family as they really are.  When they are overly posed, cutesy, or have people wearing clothes you know they would never actually wear, I find it kind of cringe.  Don’t even get me started on the use of random props.  Maternity shoots and engagement shoots seem to be two of the biggest offenders when it comes to over the top cutesy and posed.
  • I don't love chocolate. I can handle it in small servings, or half of a small serving, but I think it's too sweet.
  • @SpaceBurger I love head bands and family pictures if that counts for anything 😂
  • hahaha @eatinwatermelonseeds I guess, but chocolate? CHOCOLATE?
