Nate will be a pumpkin. Had I known dinosaurs were available, he would've been that.

  • @mccurleya Amazon!  They had a good amount of options - the one we got is Carters brand.

Maeve is going as a pineapple.
My sister is watching her on Halloween and taking her to school parade which should be fun

    edit: I can’t believe we’re in October
the weeks (with work and everything) seem slow but it’s really flying by

  • @shoretobe The saying "The days are long, but the years are short," is so very true. How is DS 6 months and DD two. Heck, the first 6 week grading period for school is next week (I'm a teacher), so this semester is a third done.

  • @becausescience we're on fall break now and idk how it got here so fast. Or how Nate is 6 months. It definitely feels like I had him maybe a month ago.

  • What are your baby’s personalities like?
    shoretobe
  • LO is curious and a dare devil. He rolls everywhere now and is close to crawling. I was pumping and sitting on the floor when he rolled over and started to put the extension cord in his mouth (baby proofing has now commenced). He is overall very happy, noisy, and loves being outside!
    DDRRT1982shoretobeashtuesdaymaelily15
  • Nate loves to screech for fun and also rolls everywhere. His new favorite thing to do is squeal as loud and as long as possible until his breath runs out then he coughs as dramatic as possible. He is always happy and smiling and very curious. Like megpeg said, he only cries when he's really tired or hungry.

  • Sweet babies!

Samantha is more nosey than curious, if that makes sense.  She isn’t really into grabbing at and manipulating things herself as much as she wants to know what’s going to be observant.  Maybe it’s because there is so much going on around here she is stimulated just by observing us than challenging herself with toys or crawling.  Physically she can roll and sit and move, but isn’t supper into that just yet. Overall,  She is a really happy, energetic, and sweet baby.

Maeve also seems to go between being nosey and observant - she is always just watching her surroundings (and let's be honest many nights find her recapping the day with her mermaid blabla dolls). She also seems to be a  more serious baby in a way. She's stingy with her laughs but quick to give a smile then duck her head like she's being bashful. She seems like a very content person who is happy to be surrounded by friends and family. I hope her being content and sweet are traits she carries with her as she grows up.
Edit: at six and seven months it is amazing to see the little people they are becoming <3

  •  @mccurleya V was doing that for a few weeks then one day last week, like a switch was flipped, she started babbling sentences of syllables. ahablablamamaba. So funny.

She is also a happy baby. Rarely cries, when she sees the bottle but it's not in her mouth, when she's overtired. Likes to meet people and smiles at them, has a funny sense of humor. She rolls and explores everything she can reach and is frustrated that she can't crawl. Then she has moments, esp in the car or on a walk, where she looks soooooo serious.

  • What a nice idea @DDRRT1982!  I love hearing about all our babes!

Nora is a waking dream - content and bright are probably the best two words for her personality.  Like Samantha @DDRRT1982, she's fairly happy being stationary and observing - she can sit up and she rolls around a lot, but standing and crawling don't seem to interest her.  She likes to listen to conversations and watch people around her.  She loves reading and lights up when she sees familiar books or toys.  She doesn't really cry, but like Declan @megpeg, she'll whine when she's really tired or hungry.  That's also when she says "Mama" most, which kills me - she's already whining my name.  She smiles and laughs often, but only at what she genuinely finds funny.  She likes to chat with her toys.  She recently started kissing - by opening her mouth and sticking out her tongue, thanks to her dog siblings.  I tried not to have any preconceived notions of Nora while I was pregnant, but the one thing I kept saying to my husband is, "I think we're really going to enjoy her.  I think she's going to be someone we genuinely enjoy spending time with."  And she is, and I love her so much!

With Nora being Nora, I do worry about this next LO.  I remember when my cousin was pregnant with her second, she said "I'm scared I won't love her as much as I love DS."  I thought that fear was ridiculous then, and honestly I still do (and spoiler: she now loves all her kids equally lol).  I know that we will love this child and all future children with our whole souls, the same way we love N.  But I just think there's no way this kid can be as GOOD as Nora (and I know how horrible that sounds!).  Like, she set the bar too high.  I'm hoping that's a statement that, in 6 months, I'll realize is just as ridiculous as my cousin's!
    DDRRT1982maelily15
  • yaaaaaay Nate!!! @mccurleya 😊
@ashtuesday 1000x yes - you said it so well about the first LO setting the bar high. It doesn’t sound horrible what you’re thinking becuae that’s been on my mind when thinking about #2. I have a great kid who sleeps and loves cuddles. I was a colicky mess as a baby and I’ve always heard you have one that was like you. I hope maybe part of it comes down to how we react to them. We try to be super calm around LO so maybe that helps her be a pretty chill baby?
also it’s funny the similar personalities traits - I wonder if it has something to do with the time of year they were born?

  • From my experience, nothing can change or compare to the experiences you have with your first.  However, parenthood is usually that much sweeter by your second or third.  You are more experienced and seasoned with the understanding this goes by all so quickly.  I have slowed down and appreciated more with each child.  You ultimately grow and love in ways you never knew you could.
    shoretobemaelily15
  • I agree I agree @DDRRT1982 you are so stressed with your first because you don’t know what’s going on or what to do and you overthink everything that when you get to your second you’re more at ease.

  • Here's another weird thing I've been thinking about, and maybe you STM+s have experiences to share: how different are your different kid's personalities REALLY?  Like, obviously every child is different.  I think about my brother, and in many ways we are worlds apart, but at the end of the day, so much makes us similar: we have the same sense of humor, similar values (that we tend to act on in opposing ways), similar, just, ways-of-being-human.  My husband and his one sister are the same way.  But his other sister is from a different planet.  She is so radically different from her siblings - in the way she interacts with people, in the way she talks about herself and others - that it's alienating.  My husband has next to no relationship with her, and while I work hard to maintain one, it is decidedly WORK.  It's so weird to think that we might have to do the same kind of work with one of our kids one day.  It just raises so many questions of nature/nurture for me.

Also, we've all been in this forum for a year so I guess you've already noticed that I'm never really brief, but sorry!  Lol.  My poor husband lives with this 24 hours a day.
    DDRRT1982shoretobemaelily15
  • @ashtuesday I feel the same way about being brief....which is to say I’m not. Lol. I love your posts. Thank you for sharing 💜
thank you @DDRRT1982 and @megpeg - that’s a great way to look at parenting - that it will be sweeter because there is another person to love and watch learn and grow. And having the experience with the first will only help with anyone who comes after.

@ashtuesday - I wonder about that too. Nature/nurture. My sisters and I are similar. We’re very “family comes first”. With DH’s family it is work to keep a relationship because everything else is first (you said it well about it being work). I hope it’s partly what we model for the kids so they pick up on those values. Sometime though I wonder where DH came from becuae he’s not like his immediate family in the best ways possible (if that makes sense).

  • @ashtuesday I've wondered the same thing! I'm one of four and me, my sister, and one brother are obnoxiously similar. My other brother is someone I have a hard time relating to at all. He lives his life very differently than I do and his personality couldn't be more different than the rest of us. To be fair he favored my dad growing up and even lived with him for a few years through out highschool so we think that's where he gets it.
    ashtuesdayshoretobe
  • My oldest son, who is from my first marriage, is definitely different than my younger four.  He has similar values, but what makes him tick is definitely different.  My other four are of course different in their own ways, but are very much the same.  They were all very easy babies, very happy, stubborn, and motivated.  My oldest was the easiest of the babies, but he is way more free and just go with the flow of life.  I think he gets that from his Dad.  My husband, is more relaxed than me, but still has boundaries and expectations.  Mu som struggles with both and I think it’s from inconsistency with parenting styles.
    shoretobeashtuesday
  • I've been a little more hippy-dippy than I usually am since N was born: less make-up, less fuss because I keep thinking I just want to show her how to embrace yourself as you are.  My husband's best man in a wedding today, and it's the first time I've done myself up in so long - painted my nails, straightened my hair, did a full face of make-up - and I forgot how damn goid this can feel!

  • I have a question that's probably not usually asked but, how can I gain weight in a healthy way? I eat snacks all day, eat dinner, and drink water all day. I'm dropping weight though. I was 135 before pregnancy and got back down to that somehow but now it keep a dropping. I'm at 125 now. And although I eat all day, I'm hungry ALL DAY.
  • @mccurleya you might want to check with your doctor. It could be you thyroid or some kind of hormone change.

  • Sorry I’ve been MIA- still doing disaster related stuff at work and it’s been seeping all my time. I’m loving reading about everybody’s LO’s personalities.
@ashtuesday, it’s hard to say about nature/nurture. I have 3 siblings (two half sisters but raised by my dad since they were toddlers and one brother that I share both parents with). I used to think I was more like my sisters because my brother and I fought all the time. But since my brother and I went to the same college, I got him his first job, helped him find his first apartment- I was the first person he called when he proposed to his wife. When they got married in a JOP wedding, they did it in my living room and me and her parents were the only ones there. Life works out in mysterious ways. My DDs are very similar- they both seem to excel in some areas developmentally but seem to lag behind in others. They both don’t like strangers at the 6 months age, now my toddler loves strangers. Luna’s temperament and mannerisms is basically like looking at videos from Lily at that age.

  • mccurleya are you breast feeding?

I agree I would talk to a doc about it, just to be sure, but little ones change our lives in unexpected ways!

To gain weight, you probably need to make sure you're eating lots of healthy foods. Don't just snack on carbs. They burn quickly if your body needs calories. Think healthy fats, lots of protein, and complex carbs. You do want some carbs, but be sure you're getting fat and protein with them.

  • @fatstagnation we stopped breastfeeding Friday, sadly. But I do need better snacks for throughout the day for sure. Right now it's cheez itz, granola bars, and yogurt.

  • Have you guys been lurking to see what is going on in TTGP?  Some random poster posted some crap and then the regs flames her like normal.  It was so tame.  Anyways, one of their posters got a warning associated with a level limiting how she can interact.   WTF, that is so dumb.  Whatever company runs the bump now needs to go.  This is so lame.  If they ever give me a warning like that I am going to laugh at them.  It’s the internet, c’mon!  I miss the old bump.
  • @DDRRT1982 I miss the Nest circa 2007-8. A little snark was fine and I don’t remember anyone ever getting shut down.
the May 2019 board has had some drama too under the spotting thread. Apparently one of the ladies caused hurt feelings on the TTGP board and one came to say some things to her. It was meatballs37- wasn’t she on our board at the beginning?

  • How long is too long for a nap at 7 months old?. LO dropped his 3rd nap last week and has consistently had 2 naps since.  He didnt have a bad night last night but hes been asleep for almost 2.5 hours now.  He rarely sleeps over 1.5 hours for a nap.

  • @DDRRT1982 I read that one and then got sucked down the rabbit hole.
@sgrn18 sometimes they just need more with all the new things they have going on. DS had shortened his morning one to and hour last week and this week we are back to 2.5 hours. Then and hour in the afternoon and half hour or so in the evening when he feels like it.

For some reason I never lurked on other boards except for birth stories during pregnancy, but now it's like a game of what tops what lol.  I looovvveee the crazy family threads. I relate so much to a lot of them sadly, but feels good to know I'm not the only one with nut bags for family!
