@kmos816 my one hour test was 151 and then my 3 hour was 155, 122, 87 so I passed within the first two hours but they still made me stay for the last draw. The no food part was hard, I just had the stomach flu too so I was a little worried I might puke. They told me if I puked I would have to come back and start over another day. I ended up doing just fine. Definitely bring books, movies, whatever you can do to distract yourself! You got this!
I made all my appointments up to 40 weeks with my doctor and she is on vacation after Christmas. Anyone else already nervous about not having their doctor there for the delivery??? I know my hospital has other OBs that can deliver but I want my doctor! Poor planning on our part to have a baby around the holidays...

Thanks for all the well wishes ladies. I appreciate it. I really just don't want to be on bedrest again. Or worse, this guy making an early appearance.
@coastiegirl79 My DH was also 11lbs (almost 12lbs) and I'm worried this baby will be big, too! DD was only 7lbs 14oz, but this one is measuring about 1.5wks ahead.
I take growth scans with a grain of salt. They were off by about 1.5 lbs on their estimate with DD. And I get different size estimates with this one when I have a different tech do the ultrasound.
GTT- I failed the initial 1 hr glucose test and had to go back last week for the 3 hr. First blood draw was around 8:40 and like 5 minutes before my third and final draw (they were planning on letting me skip the last once since the rest had been good) I felt nauseous and ran to the bathroom and puked my guts up. Had to do the walk of shame back to the lab and was almost in tears when I told the tech what happened. BUT they talked to my OB and decided to not make me come back and retake the whole thing. Last hour went by and I passed! After that I got a big lunch from the hospital food court and went home and slept all afternoon.
Regular appointments- This Friday we will start having appointments every two weeks and are only 10 weeks away from seeing our little guy!
I had my 28 week appointment today. I found out I passed my 3 hour glucose test! I was really concerned about another potential complication with this pregnancy so I was thrilled when I found out all was good.
I'm hyperventilating a little bit that I start going every 2 weeks! It's crazy how close were all getting!
Was anyone else that had to take the 3 hour test given diet guidelines for the days before the test? My OB sent me guidelines that require me to eat an obscene amount of carbs for each meal for 3 days in advance of the test:
@AshVA I haven’t seen specific guidelines like that, but I have heard the general recommendation that you should eat plenty of carbs in the days before the test. Eating low carb before taking a GTT could make you more likely to fail because your body isn’t used to dealing with all the sugar. There is some evidence that a LCHF diet can increase insulin resistance, and it is true for me.
@AshVA I was given 0 diet instructions for my 3 hour glucose today except to fast. I did eat a lot of carbs on Saturday, yesterday I ate carbs too; but it would have been annoying and difficult to follow those exact instructions!
I'm still waiting on my results..... the lab was super busy today so just hoping they are backed up.
Add me to the list of people who failed the 1 hr glucose test. I get to do the 3 hour now - I scheduled it for Monday since that was the first day that they had an earlier morning appointment and I didn’t want to be fasting all day long. Good to know to eat carbs the day before - my doctor gave no instructions other than to fast.
After failing my 1 hour GT I'm sitting at the DR now doing the 3 hour. Passed with DD but I failed with a 161(threshold was 140 for my dr) this time. 3 out of 4 blood draws down. Last one in 20 mins. 🤞🤞🤞
Just got results that I passed the 1 hr GTT- phew! I did show as slightly anemic though it’s 11.8 g/dL hg, so I’m not sure if that’s a problem or “normal” for pregnancy @28 weeks. Will see what the midwives say.
Add me to the list of weirdos that thought the drink was kinda good, in a totally artificial syrupy kinda way? It was the fruit punch glucocrush and was chilled- tasted like the Hawaiian Punch I remember from childhood! I eat pretty crunchy, mostly organic, etc these days so am not used to those kinds of things anymore but regularly drank all those sugary, artificial beverages as a kid and it reminded me of those. Highly recommend that flavor if you get a choice!
Good luck to all of you taking the 3 hour! What a pain, but of course good to know! After this *hopefully* no more blood draws
Does anyone know why they need to draw full vials of blood for the 1 and 3 hour glucose tests? If diabetics can test their blood sugar with just a finger prick, why do the glucose tests require so much more? Are they testing for other things that aren't mentioned as much?

I'm not sure how exactly the blood samples are run but it is different than a home meter. Lab blood tests are a lot more accurate. Home blood meters only have be within 15% of lab values 95% of the time and within 20% of lab values 99% of the time. They are useful for everyday testing because they use so little blood and give quick results, but you do lose some accuracy.

At mine they also tested for several other blood metrics like hemoglobin, hematocrit, WBC and RBC counts, nucleated RBCs and a couple other things it is a common time pregnant women develop anemia so they check that.
I heard from the doc yesterday that I passed the one hour (again) but they let my hematocrit vial sit all weekend so I have to do that again. I'm pissed. It wasn't the office but the lab that did that but it's super annoying because I know I'm fine and this is one thing I shouldn't have to do again. I'm really ready to be done with doctors for awhile and I won't get that in any way for another 4 or so months.
Just called my OB and got squeezed in this afternoon at 2:30 EST to check on my swelling. I don't have hand or face swelling but my leg/ankle/foot swelling is insane. I never swelled like this with the other two. I have zero ankles and my feet look like marshmallows. I have pins and needles in my feet and my joints are so stiff, I'm guessing due to the swelling. I had my urine and BP checked 4 days ago and they were both fine, but that wasn't by an OB and I'd rather hear it from my own doctor and get his recommendations. Hopefully everything checks out and I just need to buy some sexy compression socks.

@tosh24 I'm glad they're able to squeeze you in! Is the swelling hard? Like if you push on it, does it leave an indent? Also, I got adorable compression socks on Amazon!
Sitting at the lab for my 1 hour GTT right now. I picked this location specifically because I know they have a room in the back with comfy chairs for women doing the GTT (or at least they did 2 years ago) but instead they are making me sit in the waiting room. 😭 Bummed.
@ladystout08 It doesn't leave an indent if I push on it but my clothes and shoes leave marks/indents on my legs/feet. No protein in my urine and BP was 120/76 so doctor said although the swelling looks concerning, it most likely isn't. Gave me bloodwork to check liver and kidney function anyway so at least we have a reference point. Also got a prescription for compression socks so I can get them covered by insurance. ETA: FHR was btwn 150-155 and fundal height is measuring 30 weeks which is on track (29+3 today).
Since I was there he gave me an update on my u/s results from last week: cervix long and closed, fluid level good, baby head down and in the 42nd percentile. He said the blood pressure through the umbilical cord was *slightly* on the lower side but that's usually only a problem if baby is measuring really small so he isn't concerned. Just to be on the cautious side, I'm going to have a follow up u/s next week. Excited to see baby again

Had an ultrasound this afternoon to check on the fetal heart arrhythmia they found 5 weeks ago...and it’s gone! They said the heart is looking great. I’m pretty excited both that the baby is doing so well and that this means I am once again allowed to have small amounts of chocolate and caffeine...just in time for the holidays.
To those that got fruit punch, I am so jealous! I was hoping I’d get that at my 1 hr glucose test today but all they had was orange!! Yuck. It tasted like cough syrup + orange kool aid. I gagged. W fruit punch flavor, I chugged it no problem!
I got my flu shot after they drew my blood post hour since drink. Tdap actually will be in 3 weeks. Doc said since I’m still 27 weeks, we’ll get it at my 30 week visit.
Baby boy finally turned from being sideways to head down! I know he can switch positions between now and labor but he no longer kicks me so low which is a nice break. What he is doing instead is kicking my right side constantly!!
I can’t believe we’re almost at that biweekly visit point. 3 weeks will fly by and after that, every 2 weeks until 36 weeks!
Fingers crossed I passed this test. Hope the results are in the portal soon.
I had the 2 hr glucose test this morning. It was pretty miserable and I got the yuck orange drink. I also got stuck an extra 2 times because my left arm was not cooperating. That drink also upset my stomach like something fierce. I hope I pass this one...
Had the Perinatal appointment this morning to double check the amniotic fluid levels, and it's all NORMAL! She also checked out in VERY specific detail all the organs and parts of baby, and she said everything is as it should be made me feel so much better. He is measuring 10 days ahead, though, so they think he might be on the bigger. Hopefully not too big!
Got my 1 hour GTT today - 149 and my Drs cuts off passing at 130. So I have to go back next week for the 3 hour.
The orange sugar juice doesn’t bother me, the needle sticks don’t really bother me either. The worst part is not being able to drink water for the duration of the test. I am such a water drinker! Going 3 hours with no water is really annoying and by the 2nd hour is all I can think about. 😔 oh well.

@sweetyjenj I believe @LauraK33 is dealing with high amniotic fluid levels as well...maybe she has some more info?
