@ohsunnydays Congrats on surviving! I definitely was completely overwhelmed the first time (and only time) in Buy Buy Baby!! Though it was also before we'd started researching and making a registry, so just seeing the massive amounts of things to buy and the 254 different strollers that they had in store was a complete shock. I'm glad you went prepared.
Could watch my belly move all day as baby kicks around in there. This morning I did sort of a sit up in bed to grab my blanket and my stomach went totally weird shaped on the left side, like a cone... I assume it was baby's butt or head.. happened later on more so in the middle.. too funny.
I got to hold my BFFs newborn - just a few days old and not even 6 lbs!!!
Then I got a migraine and had to fight the on call person to prescribe me my meds (that I took during my last two pregnancies). 4 hours later, I’m nice and druggy and don’t feel like I’m dying.
Omg I can still vividly remember holding DS’s little heel and moving it around my stomach at the end. Hysterical. This lady doesn’t like to show herself like DS did yet, but I do have some extra fluff this time around that didn’t exist last time. I’ve been so crazy busy the past few days that she’s just slept and slept and slept. Not a ton of activity
I woke up exhausted so originally my plan was to be lazy and do nothing .But the dogs were full of energy so hubby and I took the out. Then conversation turned to halloween. So we dropped the pups back at home and then went to shop for halloween costumes for an upcoming party. Spent the entire day trying to come up with ideas. Hubby is a cowboy and I have no clue. I did buy me a fuzzy cow onsie to sleep in... it's comfy.
H got to feel the baby for the first time tonight and his reaction was amazing. I’ve been feeling kicks on the outside for a while but they were sporadic enough that it didn’t feel worth it to try and get him to feel if he couldn’t and became disappointed. Had a glass of wine tonight though and baby was playing up a storm (clearly my kid) so he got a few really strong thumps.
My house smells like chicken wings so bad. We both walked in after the fight party and gagged. It all traveled to our bedroom. We’re going to freeze our asses off trying to air it out tomorrow.
2 am here and I still haven’t gone to bed. Went out to a show and so many people I know were there! Got home just an hour ago. Guess I won’t be able to go out like that for a while after baby is born, but a few of my friends were also at the show tonight and they have kids. Parents have lives too!

@grebretso- good for you! My biggest advice to everyone about to have a kid for the first time is live it up while you can and go out, to the movies, shows, nice grownup dinners, whatevers. Speaking for myself, I go out occasionally, but I get home way before that, because no matter what, my kid gets up at 6-something AM! Also, we go out together pretty rarely, because a sitter is a Benjamin to start. Glad you are doing it! Mostly I miss going to the movies... sigh
@grebretso - we have two and still get out without kids. We also have always taken our kids to kid friendly things from a young age - restaurants, breweries, festivals, etc.
@sjnsjnsjn so true! Nothing quite like going out pre-kids (AND sleeping in! Sigh). Even when they are being watched and you are out for an adult evening you still have them in the back of your mind the whole time so it isn’t quite as carefree.
But I do enjoy activities as a family too, especially now that DD is older and more interested in things. So you just trade one for the other really.
Ahhh! I want H to feel it so bad! Every time I feel strong kicks and H is around, I grab his hand and put it on my belly, and every time the kicks stop immediately. I'm sure kiddo knows and is playing us. One day!

@grebretso Same here. It's like the kid knows and is playing games with us.
PSA: If you've not yet gotten your flu shot, Target's pharmacy is giving out $5 off coupons as a reward if you get vaccinated there! The shot is covered 100% by nearly every insurance plan, so that's a free $5 toward whatever impulse buys you make on your Target trip. Edit: I should add that this is for US people. I'm not sure about the cost of the vaccine in other countries... But I'm guessing it's mostly free in other countries, too, since the US is usually the worst for healthcare coverage.
I know! I got mine at CVS, and then promptly threw away the receipt before remembering that my coupon was on it! My new plan is to have H get his flu shot at Target and then give me the coupon since he doesn't care about shopping there.
It looks like there's a thimerosol-free vaccine, which might be what you're referring to as the pregnancy vaccine. Both are safe during pregnancy, per both the CDC and ACOG guidelines. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/vaccine/qa_vacpregnant.htm
You guys. I’m watching the shape of water for the first time right now and it’s INTENSE. So so so weird. Guillermo del toro is an odd duck. It’s super interesting though.
Is anyone not planning to get a flu shot? I never do but i know doctors want people to in general.. i wouldnt if i wasnt pregnant but being pregnant im on the fence... anyone else not gettig it or on the fence?
@cass06_07 I always get the flu shot (my sister is immunocompromised and is unable to, so anything I can do to protect her I will!) but having had norovirus during my last pregnancy, I’d take any steps at all to avoid getting any kind of sickness. Being unable to take most medicines due to pregnancy makes even something as simple as the flu (can be) a million times worse!
@cass06_07 I don’t normally get the flu shot. I work in a germ factory (aka elem school). Pregnancy always makes me feel like I’m making the wrong decision... idk. I’d be curious to hear where everyone stands on it.
I get mine every year. Actually getting it later this week after my OB appointment. Just year I got the flu and one of my boys got flu A in February and flu B in May. We were both pretty miserable. I can't imagine how sick we would have been without the shots. If nothing else the shots should keep you from getting super sick. And having babies in the middle of flu season makes it even more important. At least they can get some antibodies from us.
This year I made it a priority because the benefits outweigh the costs: the pain+stress+cost of getting vaccinated is very small compared to the pain+stress+cost of getting the flu while pregnant (and then trying to control the associated fever, which can spell trouble for baby if it gets too high) or giving it to my baby if I get sick after birth (which is a really bad situation for the baby). Other years, I get one just because the flu is really miserable, and I want to help protect people who are unable to get vaccinated.
I generally get one (missed a couple years) but this year I definitely am and I’m practically requiring everyone who plans to see the baby to have one.
I’ve had the flu and norovirus while pregnant. Trust me, do whatever you can to avoid getting either. It’s far worse - the flu shot is easy and even for someone like me who has a poor reaction, is totally worth it.
@megpants209 My H and I are considering asking our parents to get vaccinated, since they'll expect to hold the baby in the first days of his life. I'm uncomfortable with asking this because I don't want to be pushy or overly-demanding, but the flu can be so dangerous for a newborn to get, and it's contagious a day or two before someone starts having symptoms, so they wouldn't necessarily even know if they're sick.
I'm nervous about people handling baby too. My parents will have to fly here, and planes are nasty cesspools of germs. That's how I got sick this summer! They always get the flu shot, but the shots have been pretty ineffective over the last couple years so there's no guarantee it'll do much. We'll just have to be very conscious of hand washing and sanitizers!
