I need to complain. H is such a douche. DS1 spilled a few chips. He immediately got the handheld vacuum, and cleaned them. He tilted the vacuum down, and the chips fell on the floor. DS1 got on his hands and knees and tried to pick them up. H proceeded to scream at him, telling him he was doing a terrible job and to get the broom. DS1 was picking them up. H threw DS1’s play doh set and play doh away & dumped food over it because he “wasn’t listening.” I am beyond frustrated. I’m tired of our kids being treated the same way he’s treated me. I can’t get out quick enough.
Just a quick drive by because I'm about 5 minutes out from yet another potty break, but this weekend has officially been devoted to potty training, and so far we're mostly kicking butt. Only two accidents since 6am, and all five of her successes have been her running to the potty of her own volition because she had to go (we've been doing mandatory potty breaks every 20 minutes ish, but none of them have resulted in anything other than some beautiful crayon drawings and a lot of Baby Shark).
For good measure, we definitely had a little bit of a Potty Party earlier; my SIL and BIL and their 6-month-old came over, we wore hats with poop emojis, and we ate cupcakes decorated like mustachioed turds with googly eyes. For someone who had a courthouse wedding so I didn't have to throw a party and didn't bother with first or second birthday parties for my kid, I'm feeling pretty good about my event planning skills, haha. Poopcakes below for your entertainment. (I gave up after decorating the first seven, because lazy and only 5 of us who eat solid food, but still... I think it's a good showing).
@flamingomomma I am so sorry you are going through this! You are absolutely doing the right thing. Your H sounds a lot like my mom and I never understood why my dad stayed and allowed us to be treated that way. Your son will be so much better off knowing you took a stand! *hugs*
Thank you everyone. The skull is an amazing bone and I swear this kids gonna give me a heart attack someday.
@kadeephd my DH did so many reckless and terrible things up until last year, and DD has some of that in her. She loves adrenaline and will likely knock a tooth out or get a million stitches.
@flamingomomma I’m so sorry you and your children have to deal with that on top of being pregnant
Hugs to you, @flamingomomma. If ever there was a doubt in your mind that you were doing the right thing for your family, that right there should resolve it. Really admire the strength you've put forward towards making it this far, and the even greater strength that I know you're exerting in leaving. You are incredible, you are enough, and you are 100% going to crush this whole living alone thing.
@flamingomomma I’m sorry you and your kids are dealing with this. It sounds like it really validates your decision to leave.
@Jens_Hoes sorry your DD cracked her head so hard. +1 on the fearless adrenaline junkie kid. We’ve only had to do stitches once so far, but I think that’s partly just luck.
@AGK2015 lol on the potty party! Love the cupcakes.
@Activebaby sorry your weekend hasn’t been going according to plan. Fx tomorrow is a fresh start!
As for me, I was up with DD at 6:30 and made pancakes and blueberry muffins before swimming lessons at 9. I’ve also been doing laundry for baby! Crazy to say that already, but I sorted through all my old baby stuff from DD and then stuff from my sister last weekend, and am getting stuff organized in the dresser.
All things considered, no guilt about my 2 hr nap with DD after lunch. She is still recovering from whatever bug she had this week, but is feeling much more like herself again.
@AGK2015 A potty party sounds fun! Way to go for the successful day. The thought of potty training my 2 year old makes me want to crawl into a hole and hide. No thanks.
@flamingomomma Hugs, I'm so sorry you and DS have to go through this! Hang in there, you're absolutely doing the right thing!
+1 For wanting Apple pie. I might cheat and get some pie crust at the store tomorrow to make some. Yummmmmy. @kadeephd a crumble is a good idea too, much easier!
@Jens_Hoes poor thing, hopefully she's feeling better! My dogs knocked my 2 year old over the other night and he's still got a gnarly scrape on his nose.. it's scary when they're this size!
@activebaby sorry your weekend was a bummer! Nothing wrong with letting the TV parent. It's been my best friend lately.
Sorry for the other's I missed, I'm being lazy tonight. Our weekend was LONG. SO LONG. The big boys have been out of school since last Friday because of this Hurricane. I understand and appreciate the City being on top of it and preparing but you guys, it didn't even rain 3 inches. Probably not even 2. The ground has been dry since Thursday and the entire city has been completely shut down. I'm losing my damn mind. DH has been gone for 8 days and it's been the longest 8 days of my life.
My gym finally opened today so we went there for a couple hours (I hid in the locker room on the couch for one of those hours), we came home and the big kids played outside while the 2 year old and I napped, and then I had a sitter come and I went to a stella and dot party and then to dinner with a girlfriend where I enjoyed a frozen virgin margarita, the no tequila part sucked, but you win some you lose some, I suppose! It was a nice night after a hellish week... ready to get back into a routine this week and for DH to get home on Friday!
I forgot to add, I finished painting the baby's room yesterday- I'm mildly obsessed with it.
Guys I'm on an organizational rampage and I can't be bothered to go to bed!!!
...I'm organizing our horde of digital photos. What kind of nesting is this anyway??
In any case, I've got everything on the Dropbox onto my desktop and sorted into folders by month and year. Tomorrow is going to be busy (church in Pensacola and my final birth class, then the in-laws come and at some point I should probably start packing for Indiana) but if I get a chance I'll move on to the external hard drive and start sorting everything on there into the month and year folders, and then I'll do everything in Photo Booth (I'm also deleting a whole lot of dumb photos and videos, since I tend to snap indiscriminately and delete nothing).
The folder that managed to slay me the most tonight is the one I put together of favorite photos from my son's first year. RIP Pensive. Where did my gummy cheesy baby go, and who is this (admittedly awesome) toddler? Now I'm extra excited to experience all the cuteness of the first year all over again.

I spent the better part of the last hour watching videos of cute babies doing cute things and got so excited that I started crying about all the cute and funny things my baby is going to do. Lol I need help.
DH and I went out for a birthday party for a friend who moved about 4 hours away, of course we (by we m, i mean them) over did it and DH is hungover. He is still sleeping, so I'm trying to get some light cleaning done so I can take care of him when he wakes.
I also pulled a muscle in my stomach on Friday afternoon and let me tell you, i wouldn't wish a heavy stomach with a pulled muscle on anyone. Lots of ICYHOT and rest when I start to feel it. It was so bad I called my doctor and he said "poor thing" to me when I told him what was going on. Lol. I guess that's the dangers of my job (K-3 special education... I had to restrain a child on friday)
All-in-all its been a good weekend, I'm just totally not used to this change of pace. Lol
@orangecrush29 I’m sorry you have been homebound, but I’m glad you guys stayed safe. Do the kids go back to school tomorrow? When does your H come back? Also, I love the paint!
@Katzalia I've been doing baby laundry too. The clothes are so tiny and adorable.
I couldn't sleep this morning and finally gave up and got out of bed at 7. I've been productive -- did 2 loads of laundry, made laundry soap (I make a homemade powder detergent), baked granola and zucchini bread and am about to vacuum and mop. Then I'll be ready for a nap. I really need to do some work at some point today and would like to exercise, but it's not going to happen when I'm this tired. How are you STM+ keeping up with your other kids right now. Lots of coffee? I'm productive in short bursts and then totally wiped out. I'll enjoy my ability to nap while I can.
DH just left for the day, will return after the kids have eaten dinner tonight. We’re leaving for the orchard in 5 minutes. Pie crust is rolled out, and ready for when we return.
God I hate weekends where I just wish it were Monday so I could go back to work
@kadeephd I look forward to nap time all day, so I can sit. Also, I have been letting him watch more tv than usual. Mom of the year right here! @runrinserepeat Good luck!
@runrinserepeat Is he working all weekend? Hope the kids are good for you today!!
AFM- Friday we had date night and I got spicy peanut curry with chicken- amaze balls!! And it didn’t give me heartburn, maybe the turtle sundae I washed it down with later was a good counter balance! Yesterday we cleaned the whole downstairs as my good friend was coming over and we were meeting her new boyfriend for the first time (they’ve been dating since Nov and live over an hour away). But man was I tired! After we cleaned we ran errands and it was hot AF out. Took a nap and I actually felt worse when I got up! Thankfully it passed and was able to enjoy their company. Today it’s just me and the dog as hubby went to southern Ohio to get one of the hunting properties ready. He’s an avid deer hunter and bow season starts Sept. 29. I should run to the mall and exchange a couple maternity tops my Mom got me that are too big but we’ll see how ambitious I am!
@flamingomomma I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, but I hope what happened helps cement in your mind what you need to do for your kids!
It is our first weekend not traveling or being super busy in 5 weeks... so at the moment? I am sipping on coffee and playing the sims (which I have not done in ages, hahahaha, such a waste of time). Soaking up that pre-kid life as I can. Yesterday was a completely lazy day with nothing productive done other than relaxing and making an awesome dinner. I watched the whole first season of the The Good Life.
We finally got a move out date from our roommate (like 10 days, eeep!), so I'm going to go organize all the baby stuff sitting in the guest room today, do the laundry, and then DH and I have to go furniture shopping since the living room couch is our roommate's! Then dinner with DH's parents tonight. Not super busy, but still some productivity.
@kadeephd the tv is my babysitter when I just cannot go anymore. Mine are older and can also entertain themselves pretty well, which is nice. However, their busy schedules are usually the reason I am so exhausted. Sounds like you were super productive!
@flamingomomma I'm so sorry you have to deal with behavior like that, but I'm glad you have a plan to leave. You will be so much happier in the long run. ❤️
AFM today sucks! My husband got the stomach bug from my DD, and her recovery suddenly took a turn for the worse, so it is not a fun Sunday over here. They are both miserable and in bed, the apartment is an absolute mess, so I feel like I need to deep clean and sanitize everything, plus walk the dog and get groceries and do our normal chores myself, and the whole time I feel a sense of impending doom that I'll be next. Ack. @runrinserepeat I feel you on hating the type of weekends where you can't wait to go back to work because that is exactly how I'm feeling right now!
@countrygirl624 he’s a soccer official, so he works evenings and weekends in the fall and spring. So yeah, he’s working all weekend. I’ll get him back in October.
The apple orchard didnt suck, and the kids actually ate a balanced lunch (apples, celery, peanut butter, and cheese). PBS kids is gonna be there Mom for a bit now, be I’m tired lol
@flamingomomma Ugh, sorry your H is being such a butt to his own child. I'm so happy that you know better and that you're doing something about it!
@PensiveCrayon Good to know I'm not the only obsessive digital organizer I organize by year, then location for casual everyday photos, specific folders for larger events like "2012 Cruise, Mexico" and "2017 Tokyo." You've inspired me to upload things to Shutterfly! I forgot how much I dislike the interface, but stick with it because I really like the products.
@maureenmce Ugh! I hope they get to feeling better and don't get you sick.
@runrinserepeat Mmm, those apples look great! I miss being close to orchards like that, yum.
Mellow weekend here in Echo Land. Last night we had dinner at a friend's house and it was super delicious, but killed my back sitting up for four hours. I was tossing and turning all night because my back was super stiff, and of course - the positions that were best for my bones was terrible for the reflux. Today I'm organizing digital photos too - I'm way behind. I order photobooks from Shutterfly, and need to get caught up before the baby gets here. Thank goodness I can do this from the couch where I can lean on my side and relax my back - ah.

This weekend we painted the back room that will be turned into DDs play room. Usually DH and I work well together on projects but for whatever reason he drove me nuts this time. Any free second he is on his phone or computer. I'm all for a quick scroll through the news feed to see if anything is going on but he is full on watching videos. He disappeared for a half hour while I was painting so I had to let DD "help" me paint. I later found out he was looking for the new child proof outlets but come on. Check in on me PLEASE. He can't find them so looks like we will be buying more. I'm ready to put the room back together because there are toys everywhere!
@runrinserepeat those apples look great! H's parents have a small orchard so we probably get 2-3x that many every year and make apple sauce and just generally scarf down so many that I never want to see an apple until the following autumn. Hopefully we get ours soon!
DD was sick all weekend so we have just been laying low. I made those muffins where you mix pumpkin puree with spice cake mix and chocolate chips. I have lost track of how many I have eaten. Then jazzercise had an open house during my Saturday morning class and I won a mum. Feeling very Basic this weekend!
@orangecrush29 I adore the paint job. I really need to start working on the nursery but can't commit to a color scheme.

STM+ how do you wrangle your children and clean the house and not feel like you’re going to fall apart? I feel like I barely did anything this weekend and I am in so much pain I need a maid lol
@jens_hoes, um I don’t? Not now anyway. DH was gone all day, both days. The house was a mess both days when he came back. I’m hoping it’s something he can take care of while they’re at school tomorrow. If not, cest la vie. My mom used to have a wall hanging that said, “cleaning the house while the kids are growing is like shoveling snow while it’s snowing”. I looked at it every day as a child, and never realized how true it was until I had kids of my own.
@Jens_Hoes Literally I asked my MIL for a cleaning service for my birthday I just don't have the energy to clean the house...even when I'm not pregnant! My birthday is in November by the woman has already been here 3 or 4 times -- she comes every other Monday and she is GOLD. She blitzes through the house and is done in like two hours. So so worth it if you can figure out any possible way to put it in the budget.
