Thinking of you ladies in the hospital. Sending positive vibes.
Had my 34 weeks appointment. I finally gained 4lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight (remember I lost 9lbs in first trimester) so really gained 13 lbs total pregnant. OB said I'm all baby and is happy with my weight gain. Said he's tracking two weeks ahead and to be 9 lbs. She hopes I go early around 37-38 weeks but will give me another growth scan at 37 weeks and do a reassessment Next appointment is my strep B test.
Me 33 DH 41 TTC since 2016 Due: October 12, 2018 Location: Ontario, Canada
@meltonjl I'm so sorry you're going through something similar! So not fun. Hopefully everything works out well for you and baby will stay a bit longer? Will they let you go if your labor stops on its own? Also, those shots are fun huh? Burned and was sore for hours.
Thanks everyone. Short update: still pregnant and no contractions. I've talked to I don't know how many people. One thankfully was a NICU nurse. Confirmed to assume baby will be here until due date (+/- 2w) so that's 4-8 weeks if I make it until 34w. I'm going to have to talk to my work. I don't want to use my fmla until baby is home... but I'm unlikely to be physically able to work. I'm team green but she said that caucasian males typically are less physically mature than females so that could effect some things. Luckily baby was measuring a bit bigger (75%ile at AS) so some things aren't likely to be an issue. We'll mostly have to wait and see, but said every day I can stay pregnant is a huge leap forward on thier end.

Thanks @mylitta it sounds like I’m either going to be here or home. If contractions don’t stop probably here. The bleeding has mostly subsided. I was hoping to have a VBAC and they won’t induce so if the labor stops and baby doesn’t come on his own I’m not likely to get that opportunity. Right now I just want assurances he’s safe and don’t want anyone rushing to do a c-s because I want him to stay put as long as possible!
@Mylitta, not to put @knottieamusements on the spot but I know she did something similar with Max and her FMLA/leave. She may have some insight.
Keep in mind: FMLA starts when you take any form of Short Term Disability (STD) as it protects your job while you're on STD. So if you're currently on STD while in the hospital, your FMLA has started. You do not have to stay out for the entirety of your STD if your dr clears you to go back to work (most companies require a Dr note saying you're cleared to work). You cannot start up your STD again for the same claim, but STD for medical complications while pregnant is a SEPARATE claim the STD for the birth of a child. FMLA can be taken for up to 12 weeks a year and can be intermittent. So you could go back to work when cleared and take the remainder at a different time. Although, depending on your work's policies you might not be paid as FMLA is unpaid leave.
@meltonjl- I hope baby holds out for a while so they grow a little more! Sending VBAC vibes your way (or at least hoping you won't need an emergency c-section). Good luck!
That's good to know @sammierose464. The way they normally work our leave is the first 6w of baby is paid by work, then anything else must use your time, std, or unpaid. I have enough med time to cover 7 weeks, plus separate vac and comp time. I typically only take enough to not lose time and I've been there for 10y, I've got accrual.
I'm scheduled to work 5 of the 8w until my due date (due to approved vacations). I have this week as vacation, and the last week of Sept through 1st of Oct approved. They're scheduling my CS today for the 15th. I would not be physically cleared to work until around the due date for sure. I'd like to put off baby leave until baby actually comes home. It's going to be interesting.
@chopchop25 , i'm on lovenox now 2x a day and apparently its not easily reversible like heparin is, so i'd have to be 24 hours off the lovenox before they'd consider giving me an epidural. Apparently the heparin they can use medication to reverse which should also help minimize risk of a PPH, which I think is the real concern.
I just had my 36 week appointment yesterday. Doc says my cervix is soft, baby is in head down position, and I'm dilated 1.5-2 cm already, but the baby hasn't dropped. He said he doesn't expect me to make it to my due date. We JUST finished moving into our temporary abode a couple days ago, we still don't have everything ready in case I pop to soon.
I just got back from my 36-week appointment. Managed to pee in the cup without getting it on my hands! Win. Only a "fingertip" dilated, got my swab for GBS done, and had my pelvic pain validated...which was nice, because I feel like a big ol' baby most days about it.
Had my appointment today just heartbeats and measuring my uterus. Both still look good. They want to send me for an NST tomorrow because "it'd be neat to see with twins" and I havent had one yet.
They let me come home. Was still having contractions about 6-9 minutes apart this morning, but because the bleeding stopped, they said I could come home and stay on modified bed rest until my next appointment. I am a little nervous not having the baby monitored constantly, but glad to be home. Anxious also with anticipation knowing I can go into labor at any time. Have to go back if contractions get to be 5 minutes or less apart for an hour, or if bleeding comes back. Just glad baby is ok. That's what's really important.
@Mylitta@meltonjl glad to hear that you are both doing well! I will be praying for you and little ones that they make it to term.
I have my last 2 week appt on the 17th, then I go to weeklys. I still have to get my strep-b test, another US, and my whooping cough vaccine. I can't believe we're all heading into the home stretch. Prayers for everyone health and safe L&D!
Had my 34 week appt today. I’m in full anxiety mode and asked if a pain in my leg was a blood clot and if I was leaking amniotic fluid. Both answers were no but she took me totally seriously and didn’t laugh at my paranoia. She also knows I had PPA/PPD so I’m sure that helps. Baby looks fine, I get final ultrasound in two weeks and flu shot.
@mamabearcj mostly what they say for contractions in general- stay hydrated and empty bladder. I’ve noticed they start back up when I move around a lot so I’m trying to rest. Since they won’t stop them I doubt there’s much I can do but pray he waits!
OB appointment today. Nothing spectacular, they forgot to check me in so I had a super rush appointment. Heartbeats look good, BP was fine, got my flu shot, and talked to her about a tubal litigation. Still need to ask some more questions about that, but definitely considering it.
I had my 36 week appt yesterday. It was a quick one. Heart beat was good, fundal height was measuring right on at 36cm. I got the GBS swab, waiting for results. Asked about the flu shot. She said they didn’t have them yet, but I’ll be able to get it there when they do. She didn’t seem overly concerned with timing and passing immunity to the baby like with TDAP, but she said some could pass on to the baby. She was so impartial and casual about the topic I was a bit surprised.
im at my appointment now waiting to talk to a dr because of Coxsackievirus exposure. I had an ultrasound and fetal monitoring. Still team green despite the temptation to look. Hoping all is fie- so far looks good.
ETA: so no Coxsackievirus but I had high BP so they admitted me to do extended BP screening and rule out preeclampsia. Hopefully all will be fine and I can leave soon.
Had my 34 week appt today (34+4), and got an early cervical check because I'm doing an overnight trip next week 1.5 hours away, and the OB was a little worried. Good news is my cervix is still high and closed and I'm cleared to travel!
Also asked about the TDaP shot, and he pretty much made it sound like it was my decision. Same with the flu. So I may go ahead and get the TDaP when I get back from my trip next week, and TBD on the flu because that shot sucks and I hate it lol.
@kaelynrayne I was 4cm dilated for a month with DS, my doc said the same thing and I went a week over ☹️
That would honestly make me happy. I REALLY don't want to have this baby until October. I have so many birthdays to remember during Sept and an October baby would just be amazing. But with a due date of October 2nd, it's a long shot either way.
I just got back from my appointment. Did my GBS test and got my first cervical check, 1cm dilated. I'll take it! Dr also gave me a talk about contractions and said since I'm a STM if I'm having strong contractions even if they are 8-9 mins apart to call since things will likely progress much faster this time.
@rc-cola hope all is ok! If it's any comfort, I've been admitted twice for the same and got to leave within two hours both times... hopefully its the same for you!
Just left my 35 week appointment. Did the GBS swab so should have those results soon. Heartbeat was great and belly was measuring 1 week ahead this time!
OB is so convinced I'm going to go early I feel like she might jinx me and I'll go to 41+ LOL She told me to stop having sex just in case, or if I do have DH pull out hahaha I was dying. I think she's becoming very aware how quick this delivery could go.
I go back at 37 weeks and she's going to do a cervix check just to see how prepared we need to be.
Growth I had a growth scan and OB appointment today. Baby boy is still measuring big at the 88th %, but at least he isn’t at the 99th % like last time. His calculated weight is 6 lbs 8 oz, so it looks like he gained two lbs this month. They did find that my amniotic fluid was low, but no sign of distress at this time. I have to go back next Wednesday to measure fluid and talk with the doctor again. She said baby may have to come early. I’m at 35+6 today.
Re: Weekly OB Appointment Check-In: Week of September 3-9
These October babies...fiesty is right!
