@texas_t Haha! They've actually been a little better! Still bloody enough to make my spit pink after I brush, but not like horror movie bloody like they were.
@Jens_Hoes My mom told my little sister that when she was a kid and to this day she still won’t take a shower even if it’s just raining out. She’s 23 now.
Was feeling kind of frumpy in my dress today (another flowy deal), but saw a running friend I haven't seen in a while at school drop off, and the first thing out of her mouth after, "hi" was, "oh my gosh, you're pregnant!" so I guess it's obvious enough.
@AGK2015 oh wow - I'm glad everyone was safe and you had no major issues!
@Katzilla420 I told myself last week that I will not lay in bed tossing and turning anymore. If I can't fall back asleep within 15 minutes or so I'm going to get up and do something productive. Of course I haven't had any mornings like that since deciding I would do that though. I figure I have things that need done and we run to sports every day after school so I'm just done in the evenings, might as well take advantage of the early mornings I can't sleep.
@AGK2015 Eekk, glad the strike didn't cause more harm...glad everyone is ok! @snugglyduckling25 I'm excited to do DD's new room! I'm hoping I don't burn out on it quickly (because I sometimes do that)...but I really have no choice because it's got to be done by December! @hkom Ohh, the bodily fluids. Last night before I went to bed, I snuck in DD's room to check on her and it smelled like poop. So, I stuck my finger down the back of her diaper only to emerge with a dipstick reading of poop indeed. I can't remember the last time I've had to do a MOTN diaper change!
So, I got a package in the mail that I wasn't expecting last night. It was from Bamboobies. I was confused because my Bamboobies order I placed last week already came in on Saturday. Well, our friend (the bride of the wedding we went to in MN a couple weeks ago) works at Bamboobies and she saw that I had ordered some goodies without telling her. She took it upon herself to package up some more stuff for me and ship it to me. Apparently, DH knew all about it because she asked him what color nursing shawl I would want. But, you guys, there was $206 of friggin breastfeeding stuff in there...I was floored at her generosity!! She gave me another nursing bra, 2 nursing tanks, a nursing shawl, 8 reusable nursing pads (4 were overnight), soothing therapy pillows (in case of engorgement or mastitis), a wet bag and 2 tubes of pumping lubricant. Ugh, those bras and tanks are SO SOFT, I'm going to wash them up and start wearing them ASAP!! Sheesh, now I feel so compelled to go put another $100 towards their honeymoon or the smoker they registered for!
@clbness what an amazing gift!!! There's not a whole lot else I need with this being #2 but man I could use some more nursing bras, nursing tanks, gel pads and nipple cream. It's all so expensive!
I ate breakfast today and immediately wished I had a second. I counted down the minutes until I could eat lunch and devoured that and now I wish I had more lunch. I don't think I'm going to make it through the afternoon. Why am I so hungry today?!
@AGK2015 OMG, that's so scary! Glad you are all okay and your major appliances are working!
@Katzalia Good for you - but sucks that you couldn't sleep! I got in 30 minutes early, but that's because I'm taking this weekend as a 4 day weekend and I have a major editing thing to do today. (Speaking of which, I should get back to that rather than checking TB... haha. I'm just drinking my coffee and waking up.)
@clbness What a great gift! I'd imagine you don't have to give her some additional gift. She probably was able to take it from the store for very little for no cost as either a discount or some of their marketing freebies. Definitely write a nice thank you note and, if you really want, a gift certificate for coffee or something?
I'm going to try to get through my editing today at work and I'm so excited for the rest of this week. 1. I have my pregnancy workout class (I hate group workout classes, but I love this one!) 2. Then we're going to dim sum. Hubby has had a "craving" for weeks apparently... haha. So we're going, which I won't complain about. 3. Then we have to pack and we're heading to visit his cousins for the long weekend, Friday - Monday. Yay!! We haven't seen them since our wedding 4+ years ago.
@kristah2 Can you eat a snack or something? I think at this point we’re supposed to be eating extra calories anyway. Maybe baby is having a growth spurt!
Commiserate with me: I've failed the 1-hour GD test.. Onto the 3 hour. I got excited for a second that maybe they would let me eat jelly beans (turns out I'm allergic to the orange drink), but it turns out they can specially order a non-flavored one. I bet it will taste like sugar syrup
@Jens_Hoes RIGHT?! @kristah2 I still had quite a bit of stuff from my last also, but I definitely needed new nursing bras! Ugh, nipple cream is a must in the first several weeks. @omnommer Yes, I was definitely thinking a nice note and a little gift card! She's got a major sweet tooth (she's also a pastry chef), so I was thinking a gift card to her favorite Denver ice cream establishment.
@Activebaby I somehow missed your post, how scary! I'm so glad he's OK. Choking is such a scary thing with the littles. Just when you think they're good, chewing-wise, they go and scare you again! I still stare my kid down when she's eating grapes.
@Jens_Hoes@morgantu Thanks, ladies! It's a known allergy of mine. I took one look at that drink and thought "yup, I'm going to have a reaction" and it started within the time I was sitting there. I get an itchy rash (usually on my neck) but I can get rid of it in a few days with Benadryl cream, so it's not a big deal. I just don't want to trigger it if I don't have to because I know allergies get worse with every exposure and I know the next drink will be more concentrated, so I don't know if that will mean more food coloring as well..
Shoot @ab_canada! I was wondering if there might be an alternative available for you, but then I came here. At least you won't have the reaction happen this time? Fx you pass though!

@PensiveCrayon Jelly beans would have been more fun, for sure! But I figure it's more important to get tested even if I had to have the same drink again.. And if I have to follow the GD diet, so be it. I know it's important for the baby and hopefully would be only temporary!
Umm, @hkom parenting will definitely expose you to all the bodily fluids. By far the grossest was when DD was a baby and projectile vomited into my mouth.
Longest time spent at doctor's office to date, but I don't have GD, and I've got every appointment scheduled, through to 2 days past my EDD (I've never actually gotten to my DD). So yay!
@Activebaby Glad he is okay! @clbness That is so sweet! That makes me want to support her business, just knowing she is a kind person. @ab_canada Good luck! When do you have to go back?
Longest time spent at doctor's office to date, but I don't have GD, and I've got every appointment scheduled, through to 2 days past my EDD (I've never actually gotten to my DD). So yay!
@katy0990 because they have to order the special drink for me, it will be about two weeks. So I will just pretend everything is fine until then Also, that week is getting a little crazy with appointments. I also have a 28 week u/s, a lunch date, and two coffees with Directors to let them know to keep me in mind for potential job openings when I come back! @texas_t That's a great idea! I know I will be super hungry. I will have to bring a snack to eat on my way to work and get something delicious at the food court
Had to grab a vending machine snack to get me through the last few hours of work and picked brown sugar cinnamon pop tarts (autocorrected to poo tabs lol). Anyway, it was a great choice and I thought you should all know.
Yay - I don't have GD! Boo - Apparently I have a UTI? I don't have any symptoms, but I guess I'll be taking antibiotics anyway. O_O - I just scheduled the rest of my appointment today, through 2 days post EDD. I've never made it to my EDD, so I imagine that'll get me there. Crazy.
@ab_canada So sorry you had a reaction and have to do the test again...blarg!
@katy0990 She is a totally rad human and one of the kindest people I know! I'm super glad my husbands friend met her and decided to keep her!
@morgantu Brown sugar cinnamon pop tarts (poo tabs ) are LIFE!
I went to Panda Express for lunch and there is a Sonic directly next door. When I pulled in, there were 2 cop cars blocking the entrance of the Sonic and I noticed the cops were all out of their cars with guns drawn on a suspect lying on the ground! Nosy me wanted to park my Jeep and watch, but pregnant (paranoid) me decided I shouldn't die before going to Crabfest tonight.
@clbness two things. One, I totally would have watched. Two, omg Panda Express (Chinese in general...) sounds so good. It's one of the few things I can't make work with GD
@ab_canada sorry you failed the one hour, but so glad they're able to get you a different drink! If you have any GD questions (whether you have it or not) hope on over to the Gestational Diabetes thread and we'll answer any questions you have
@runrinserepeat how did they diagnose the UTI? I feel like I have one and it's irritating. @clbness Pregnant belly trumps pregnant brain for me these days. I would have walked right past the policy to get a hot dog if I needed to. But in all seriousness that's super scary!
In my news.. I just ate my lunch for breakfast because I was so hungry and now I have no lunch. I'll regret that later.
@kristah2 my boss brought in Panera bagels for breakfast. I ate one, really wanted a second one, but didn’t want to look like a pig. So now I’m debating eating my lunch for a second breakfast. I have been starving lately!
Thanks for sharing @Jens_Hoes! One thing that really stood out to me:
“With my first kid, I just did talk therapy because I was afraid of going on meds. Since I was breastfeeding, I had it in my head that I couldn't breastfeed and take anti-anxiety medication. No one had told me this, it was just some weird anxiety thing I had concocted in my head. I kept telling myself: you're just overwhelmed, this is what all new parents go through, it's just sleep deprivation, it'll end soon. I think I was almost two months postpartum before I saw a therapist, and even when she suggested meds, I kept saying, ‘Let's wait and see.’ With my second, my midwife told me in the hospital that if I wasn't feeling like myself two weeks after birth, then I should make an appointment to see my doctor and get on some medication. This time I listened. When the ‘baby blues’ didn't subside, I immediately texted my doctor. I was scared to take meds, but this time I knew it wasn't worth going through all the pain of postpartum anxiety. I wanted to be present for my baby and my family, and not in my head. I wanted to sleep. And let me tell you, within a week of starting the meds, I felt like a completely different person.” —Chelsea S.
