  • BF is I have absolutely ZERO energy. I went to Target yesterday with my family and when I got home I was exhausted. I really have to pace myself or I get wiped out quickly.

  • @clbness That is terrible! They're refunding your money for the canceled flight, right?! I don't get how airlines can just cancel flights like that last minute. That happened to my mom a couple weeks ago too!

  • @clbness that sounds hellish. Glad you made it back, but I think you need another vacation to recover!
  • @AdorkablePixie Yes, we just got off the phone with Expedia and we’re getting about $350 back. So, with our $800 (plus food and fuel) one-way car rental, we technically “only” spent an extra $500 to get home. It sucks balls. My guess is that they didn’t have enough passengers checked in to make the flight worth it to them. Fuckers.  :D

  • @clbness I would have sat there and cried.  Sounds like you are making the best of a bad situation.
  • @echo-charlietango Thank you! I did look at RTR, I've used them a lot for wedding outfits (we had 7 weddings last summer) but their maternity plus options seem very limited. I think I am going to try and order a regular dress a size or two bigger and get it altered if need be, so many more options than maternity.
  • Also, @AdorkablePixie, I’m sorry that happened to your Mom...grrr!
@Katzalia I agree...another vacation would be heavenly! But maybe a lake in CO...I don’t want to fly anywhere!
@LLynde5 My husband was mad enough for the both of us...I had to keep a happy attitude for DD.  :p
@lippy625 The dress I wore to the wedding this weekend was cute and so comfy. I got it from Motherhood Maternity. I just hopped on their website and couldn’t find it, so it must be discontinued. So, I’m no help here. I hope you find something you like!

@clbness Travel issues are my personal nightmare  especially when they stem from general incompetence, which it sounds like yours did with the airline.  I would have been so furious in that situation.

  • @clbness I’m sorry. That sounds awful!
  • So it’s Monday. It has been super busy and nothing has been easy. Hospice patient unsafe to go home and in tears. Violent patient yelling at me for a prolonged period, and zero nursing backup came, nor did the supposedly present police escort. Colleague who is quitting as of the end of the has been doing pretty much zero work the past 2 weeks. I’m not thrilled at the vacancies but she hasn’t been much help when she’s here. Now apparently she may have been offered another position so we might be stuck with her again. If this keeps up I am going to be seriously burnt out.
  • I have more work than I can complete. I’m overwhelmed, and I need to tell my bosses this. Instead I don’t. I won’t get into a job that I can’t have a work life balance again. I’m overwhelmed about planning for maternity leave too. However I left work (at another campus) at 4 and it wouldn’t make sense to go back into work, so I went home and went for a run. My attitude is so much but better than it was at least.
  • @Activebaby good for you taking care of yourself and choosing a run over going back to work to run yourself into exhaustion with too much work. Yay for good boundaries and a good run! I should be thinking about this too because I am getting overwhelmed with my workload more than doubling.
  • @Llynde5 I put some of DS's clothes that come in sets together so DH will dress him in that outfit together. He still mixes them up!! He puts DS in this dinosaur shirt and always puts him in the wrong shorts!! I keep telling him the correct shorts are right with the shirt and he still does it wrong.

@Activebaby Running/working out always makes me feel better! Sorry you're overwhelmed. :(

  • So not a huge issue but I'm a bit annoyed. I love my midwife practice in general, but the one midwife I've seen the past two visits is a little bit too cautious/restrictive in my opinion. Last visit, she asked about my exercise and I told her that I was doing home workout videos and had been doing them for years. A mix of strength training, cardio and yoga. And that I was modifying based on what I've researched I need to modify such as no twisting, no laying on my back, keeping my heart rate under 140 beats per minute, etc. She told me to stop doing workout videos all together because "she couldn't watch every single one to see if they were safe." Instead, she told me to walk more and do a nice, pregnancy class (aka more $$$) to make sure I'm doing moves that are safe.

This visit (yesterday), I told her I had started a once a week class and was doing "strength training and cardio at home" while modifying (note, I didn't say workout videos lol). Again the modifications were like no twisting, no laying on my back, watching the heart rate, lowering the weights I use. THEN she told me that I don't need to be using weights at all while pregnant. I was like, what?! Are you serious. I'm used to doing squats with 15-20 pounds at a time in each hand! Yeah, I've gone down to 10 in each hand since I've gained like 14 pounds so far, so it evens out... but if I did no weights then I wouldn't be getting the same kind of workout I'm used to. Everything I've read and heard from other medical practitioners is that as long as you modify appropriately and were doing this type of workout prior to pregnancy, it's safe to continue as long as you are low-risk and don't have negative affects during or after exercise. My nutritionist (who also has a degree in sports science or something like that) lifted her entire pregnancy (modifying as needed) and has a perfectly healthy baby now.

Anyways, then the kicker was that we talked about air travel and the midwife said she doesn't recommend anyone travel after 28 weeks because if you go into pre-term labor you'll be stuck wherever you are until the baby is released to go home. I was like... wait, what? So for someone with a perfectly healthy pregnancy, I can't take a 2-hour flight at 31 weeks? Then she said, well you can, but the risks are higher and I wouldn't do it if I were you. Of course, if I develop a risk factor then I won't be traveling... but that seems a bit extreme to me.

Either way... I'm just venting. She's moving out of the country in a month and will no longer be a part of that midwife practice. All the other midwives I've met have not been as cautious/restrictive as her, and I get a really good feeling about the practice overall.

I really wish that presidents and vice presidents would either just completely stay the eff away from everyone else's cities,  or at least choose speaking locations that can be directly accessed by helicopter.  Pencie is in Cincinnati today and this is the current traffic situation on the interstates:

Probably 15-20 miles of interstate, including I-75, one of the busiest interstates in the country, just completely shut down for hours. I don't have to deal with this at all and I am still SEETHING.

  • @omnommer Wow, that is incredibly restrictive, especially with the exercise! That's crazy. My doctor hasn't even asked details of what my exercise routine is (walking and at home strength training with 8 pound weights.) I feel like most OBs and midwives are just thrilled if you're exercising regularly and nothing crazy risky. Glad she'll be gone soon and you like the rest of the practice!
  • @omnommer so my pregnancy is high risk and I just got off pelvic rest and was told to immediately go back to exercise and not to lift more than 25!  Mine is also a midwife and suggested doing spinning babies exercises in addition too.
  • @omnommer I've always heard that if you did something before pregnancy, you can do it during pregnancy. You are taking the right precautions. She's just a worrywart.
    Pregnancy TickerSaveSave
  • @maureenmce Yeah, from what I understand, it's all beneficial as long as you aren't experiencing negative affects from it like cramping, dizziness, etc!

@LLynde5 Interesting how different practitioners think so differently! The other midwives in the practice seem much more normal with regards to this, haha. That's awesome that your midwife suggested you immediately start exercising and not to lift more than 25. 20-25 has kind of been my "limit" even though I never defined it during pregnancy thus far! It just didn't feel good to go past that. I'm sure you soooo happy to be done with pelvic rest and are able to get back to exercise. :)

  • @maureenmce I am sorry you’re feeling so crappy! That had to be especially scary to be away from home!
@omnommer Wow! Once my spotting stopped and my lifting restrictions were gone, my OB encourage me to exercise at the same pace I was doing before I got pregnant. I have never heard of such a restrictive practitioner. I’m glad she will be gone soon!

  • @omnommer She sounds like a crazy. That workout doesn't sound like much compared to what I do and I haven't been told to slow down or stop anything. She is being WAY over cautious if you haven't been having any issues and aren't at risk. That would drive me crazy. At least you won't have to deal with her soon. ;) Also, I'd fly still!!

  • @omnommer my friend did CrossFit all the way through her pregnancy. I believe as long as you did it pre- PG it's fine to do now. Glad that midwife is leaving.
  • Thanks for all the replies ladies! (re: workouts) I plan on continuing what I'm doing and ignoring her. (Though I've paused working out with all this terrible smoke in the Northwest from the fires - my lungs are definitely feeling that!)

@AdorkablePixie I definitely plan on flying still! It's just a 2-ish hour flight and I'll get to go to my husband's awesome conference/after parties and see my sister. Definitely seems worth it at 31 weeks. We aren't buying tickets until about 3-weeks out though, just in case things change. My mom did have pre-eclampsia with me, so I have a slightly heightened risk factor for that, though still very unlikely. So, in end of September I'll buy my flight. :)

  • Having a very #fwp and feeling bitchy about it: one of my AirPods just randomly stopped working. I use my AirPods a million times a day. They are life. I contacted Apple support and the guy on the chat was like, "I can't tell you what the problem is lol sry. Go take 'em into an Apple store." But like...where am I gonna find and Apple store in Butt Nowhere, AL? :rage: Which means I'll have to live with one-ear audio until I can make it to a big city. Whenever that happens.

  • @ab_canada No, because I am DEVOTED to these stupid things  One-ear listening is fine, I'm just being whiny. But maybe I will try calling for a different support person @echo-charlietango.

Well, then that's a First World Problem indeed!

  • @PensiveCrayon OR you can be shady (not like I’ve ever done this...ahem). Buy another pair outright from somewhere local, then swap out the bad AirPod. Return the AirPods to retailer, letting them know that one was defective and you don’t want to exchange.

  • let me add to the FWP fun.  I have a desktop computer in the basement downstairs that no longer has a working keyboard.  I thought it was a driver issue, so played with that for 30 min, then did a system restore to the last update, still nothing.  plugged in to my laptop to test, but got the blue screen of death because my laptop is ancient in computer terms and nothing is compatible anymore.  when it finally rebooted, turns out the keyboard for the desktop isn't recognized by the laptop either- so keyboard is broken.  To top it all off, Charter upgraded our internet to 200Mbps and sent us a new modem.  However, my router is 7 years old (and technology of it older) and cannot handle the new speeds.  So new router and keyboard today I guess.  F U technology.
there are two motivations in sports, which is yours?
  • @omnommer that would be super annoying to me too! I had a similar high risk doctor my last pregnancy who told me to “take up crocheting” and s bunch of other crap because his nurse took an inaccurate measurement of my cervix so they thought it had shortened. He was this super old grumpy dude and I’m so happy I don’t have to see him this time! Maybe it’s just because this is my 4th kid and I feel pretty in tune with my body but I’m keeping my workouts to myself and thankfully, my OB hasn’t asked! I feel great and have had no issues keeping up with CrossFit/swimming/ so I’m just gonna keep to myself!

@PensiveCrayon that’s so frustrating! I haven’t gotten AirPods yet but my hubby has some and is obsessed and would be so sad if one was busted!!

@hkom Omg that traffic looks like my worst nightmare!! So glad you didn’t have to be out in that!

@coybig it’s so frustrating when it’s one thing after another with technology!! We’ve had a ton of issues with our internet lately and all of the rebooting and troubleshooting is such a giant headache. Hopefully the new router and keyboard solve your issues!

As for me, I’ve got a few complaints!! My main one is this: my two older boys flew to Chicago unaccompanied today to visit their dad before school starts back up. They’re 10&9 and I was a nervous wreck even though it was an easy direct flight. Well, their super stellar dad showed up to pick them up 40 minutes late!!! OMG I was and still am fuming. Thank goodness the airline had a flight attendant stay with them but I’m just so mad that he’s so irresponsible and stupid.

My other minor issues are: my hubby is gone for 2 weeks and I can’t keep up with my crazy 2 year old. Also, my Apple Watch has a small crack in it out of nowhere and it’s usually fine but sometimes it’ll freeze up and I can’t click on anything in that corner and it’s annoying.

  • @orangecrush32 Wow! 40 minutes late! I’d be so furious! I’m so sorry that you and your kids have to deal with that.
