@jemmerjams it can be a bit of a hassle to work with a bra/top, but it’s honestly not that big of a deal. And most of the nurses get pretty skilled at getting them off in a hurry if we need!
I have giant breasts and think that they would be in the way and really uncomfortable for myself if I didn’t wear a bra or tank. I have a nursing bra that I plan on wearing that can easily be removed and doesn’t have metal clasps.
I asked at what they prefer at my birth center and they said a sports bra with clips (front is best) for easy access for skin to skin or of you suddenly want it off it will come off easy. Over the head is not suggested.
I've already decided I'll probably be naked, maybe a robe I dont care about. I only want DH and I in there for it to be our moment but I'm certainly not shy so it wont bother me what pops out or hangs out...
How would you describe lightening crotch? I keep getting this feeling up near my cervix that feels like it’s being stabbed with a large needle. It’s really uncomfortable for a minute. After that it kinda lingers, but I’m not sure if that’s in my head or not.
Has anyone had issues using their Amazon completion coupon? It shows it is ready to be redeemed and I am able to click on the redeem now button, but the discount isn't showing up when I go to check out? Everything in my cart is eligible for the coupon, so I know it isn't an issue of things not being eligible.
@mamabear0416 you have to add the cart items specifically from the registry completion discount page. If you add them straight from the product page or your registry it won’t work. I think it says that at the top somewhere, but it took me three times of trying before I saw it
@mamabear0416 Try going further through the process from your cart as though you're going to check out and see if the promotion is on that page. I seem to remember that being the case when I used mine.
One thing to add to the car seat discussion, if your car seat does fit in the middle and you plan to put it there, know that you’ll probably need to use the seatbelt install instead of the latch system. As far as I know, the two inner latches are supposed to be used only for the two side positions, and you’re not supposed to use the two inner latches for a middle seat install.
In case anyone was wondering, or might eventually have issues with the Amazon completion coupon, you have to be signed into the primary registrants account. My H is the primary account holder and he was the one who set up the registry for us. I contacted Amazon and after talking to 3 different people that is what they had come up with. I signed on under his email and was able to use the coupon no problem. And now we are 90% done with everything we need for this little girl.
I have a question about crib mattresses, I noticed there's not a product spotlight for this. Not sure if there really needs to be one? What mattress are you choosing for baby? How did you decide?
I am stuck between the Serta Perfect Rest Firm crib & toddler mattress and the Dream On Me Orthopedic Extra firm
@alexa_94 we did kind of have a product spotlight, that was all about cribs and mattresses and everything, but not much was discussed as far as mattresses go. I've been struggling with the decision as well.
Ours did not come with a mattress, and we went with this one. We liked it because it’s super light weight (7lbs) so it’s supposed to be much easier to change sheets on during the night.
Okkk so I just saw a question in the question section of the Bump app and someone asked if everyone found the cervix checks for dilation super painful and it was pretty unanimous that it hurts a lot. This never crossed my mind!!! At what week do they start doing these?

My OB starts them at 36 weeks when you start going in for weekly prenatal visits. They’re not comfortable but I wouldn’t say they’re super painful. However, cervical checks aren’t really necessary because dilation & effacement aren’t reliable indicators of when you’ll go into labor. I walked around at 3 cm dilated and 50% effaced with DS for 4 weeks and still ended up being induced. So basically you can deny them if you don’t want them.
I didn’t think they were super painful. Just pretty uncomfortable. I did have a little bit of spotting afterwards though. I’m planning on skipping them this time around since they don’t really tell you much.
I was only checked at 38 weeks when they decided to induce me. I didn't think they were painful more so just uncomfortable. Although one of my nurses said I handled them like a champ. Lol I was checked several times during my induction because things just weren't happening fast enough.
@mamabearcj honestly I’m thinking It’s one of those things I’d rather not be aware of since I tend to get anxious. I’m not sure I’ve done you any favors!
@rabtaido1214 itd something I'm probably not going to look into for info but in glad I wont be caught completely off guard if it comes up at an appointment
A cervical exam is usually uncomfortable (not as bad as a speculum exam) but hopefully not really painful. Keeping the muscles of your bum, perineum, and thighs relaxed makes it was less difficult. But you can definitely refuse them in the office, and request minimal exams in labour - in active labour they should only be done if there is a reason to (like your water broke, there are issues with the heart rate, or you feel an urge to push) not just because “it’s been 2 hours” or anything like that.
Thank you @jennybean80 if things seem to be going as planned and it’s just a routine doctors office visit, would you suggest letting them do one knowing all that you know from your professional experience or refuse? I wouldn’t want to prevent them from learning something important, but if it’s not generally informative maybe I’d pass. I usually go to work right after my appointment so I don’t want to set myself up for a miserable day unnecessarily.

Mine were only painful when I was actually in labor. That was actually what made me ask for the epidural. I was induced though.
@rabtaido1214 it really depends on the mom. I’m probably going to skip them in office, because they really don’t tell you much. But I know lots of women who want to know what’s happening, even if it isn’t a good indicator of when labour is coming.
I had a cervical check a couple weeks ago when I went in for lower back cramping and decreased movement. They just wanted to make sure it was closed. It wasn’t painful, just a lot of pressure. But I can see how it would be more uncomfortable in labor.
Re: Questions 8/3
@cdepperschmidt yup sounds like lighting crotch. It definitely hurts.
Helpful for figuring out if you’re able to use LATCH for installation in the middle in your car.

separately. We did get ours with our crib though so sometimes you can find a good sale.
