Thanks for getting us started @funkykey

@Worldtravler0522 I'm glad you're happy you kept your immunologist but disappointed they didn't give you due credit for your weight loss so far.  At least now you know and have a path forward with the RPL specialist.

AFM:  beta is Friday.  The post transfer HCG shot has been tested out and at 8DP5DT I'm getting a negative on the cheap test strips.  No symptoms either so I'm pretty sure this transfer was a fail.  We'll be taking 3 months off to regroup and decide on our treatment plan for November.

In other news DH has surgery tomorrow to remove sinus polyps so the next couple days will be spent nursing him through recovery.

QOTW: I have a mix CD in my car that was given out as a favor at my cousins wedding with a pretty eclectic mix of music.  I listen to it when the morning show folks start getting on my nerves.

  • @funkykey thank you for starting the thread again this week <3

@ChristenMA83 I'm sorry you're not feeling very optimistic right now. I'm glad you have the beginnings of a plan for next steps if needed, but will still keep fx those cheap tests are wrong and you have a pleasant surprise at your beta tomorrow. Sending good vibes for YH's surgery and hope he's an easy patient afterward.

AFM, having a bit of a down week that started with an insensitive message from a very fertile friend and an unexpected PG announcement from another friend both on Monday. This was followed by spotting late Tuesday afternoon and full on AF yesterday morning. I always feel foolish for even bothering to try naturally every time AF arrives (and I'm pretty sure my LP is getting shorter and shorter again), but I also can't let go of the thought that we're "wasting an egg" if we don't try while we're waiting for treatment. Speaking of waiting, September 11th seems years away and that's only for the informational meeting. At least we will be doing something next week with the psych consult, but after that it's nada until the 11th. Sorry for such a sad post and I'm hoping next week is better.

QOTW: Last CD in your car? (If you have/have ever had a car with a CD player.) Haha I did still listen to CDs in my car before I left for France in early 2011. I don't remember everything I had, but I'm sure there was a lot of Madonna. I was also listening to a lot of David Bowie and New Order at the time. We didn't have a car here until this past March and I can't drive it anyway unless I get a French license (my US driver's license is expired and my parents moved to another state so I can't renew it), but I don't think it has a CD player.

  • Thanks @funkykey

@mirabelle33 I’m sorry you’re having a tough week. I know what all the waiting is like, it’s sometimes as tough as doing the treatment. September 11th be here before you know it. I know this because I will turn 40 just a few days later!!!

@christenma83 I’m sorry you’re not seeing anything. It is soul destroying, but I still hold out some hope it’s just a late implanter. Even if beta is really low think twice before stopping meds (take a look at zwink1’s story - she posted in the grad checkin on TTGP today - her first beta was something like 6...). You’re do some good old fashioned luck.

AFM Baseline this morning and my ovaries were soooo quiet. There are maybe a few super tiny 1mm follies on both sides. Yep that small!  And my FSH was 2.6 and E2 was under 10. So I’m definitely still well suppressed- just hope not too much again.
And... because my labs were soooo low I get to try a Microdose Lupron cycle!!!!!!!!!
We will only do stims every other day this time too to see if we can avoid over cooking my eggs.
    First monitoring Monday...
This last week I got increasingly stressed up to baseline and had a few medical issues so I had not been banking on getting a green light today. Just need to try to keep myself healthy while we stim.

  • @ChristenMA83 how are u getting on? I know this stage really sucks but I'm still hopeful for you.
@emmasemm I hope this round of treatment is kind to you and doesn't give u too many side-effects.
@mirabelle33 I'm sorry it's been a rough week. That's really awful timing with your friends announcement. Hopefully everything stays on track for your appointment in September.
Afm it's looking like I have had a chemical pregnancy which is still unresolved. My hcg levels are continuing to go up despite all my other hormones being incompatible with pregnancy. The doctors are discussing my case tomorrow. Pretty frustrating that my body won't even do not being pregnant properly

@mighty-mouse thanks for checking in on me.  We had our beta Friday and the results were <2... so we stopped meds and I'm just waiting for AF to show up.  We'll be taking some time to enjoy life and resume treatments in November.
Sorry you're dealing with a CP.  Hopefully the doctors are able to give you some insight tomorrow.

  • @ChristenMA83 - I'm so sorry. :( I wish I had better words than that. This sucks.

@mighty-mouse - Ugh, I'm sorry for you, too. This was a letrozole cycle, right? Hoping that maybe this one will beat the odds and stay sticky, but if not, that you recover soon. :(

I guess not a lot of good news this week. Ugh.

@mirabelle - I hate AF after insensitive FB messages. I totally hear you on the "wasting an egg" thoughts, though. You'd think, after all this, I wouldn't care - but every single month, around my FW, I'm like: "Maybe this is the good egg! Let's go!"  :s

@emmasemm - Really hoping this cycle is the one, and that this suppressing will have worked! Hoping you get good news tomorrow!

QOTW: Beyonce. I had a whole Beyonce mix CD that I burned myself. We do have a CD player in our car still, but I can't find that CD (it was in our last car), and I don't have any blank CDs to burn, lol. We just have one old computer that still has the ability to burn, too - lol.

AFM: No good news here, either. AF is about to show, I'm 95% sure, and once that happens, I start suppressing. I'm on a real emotional rollercoaster ahead of this IVF. If this round fails, I'm thinking of exploring other options. So this might be my last real try for a biological child of my own. I'm trying not to get ahead of myself, though.

  • @funkykey lol, that's about all there is to say.  It all just sucks.  All we can do is look ahead and make the next move.

@mirabelle33 I've been hoping for that miracle cycle for 6 years now, though without the pressure I used to put on it.  I keep thinking we've got 1% of normal shaped guys in there, surely one can get through on its own.  I know September feels like forever away, hopefully, you can find some distractions in the meantime.

AFM: We have our consult with the RE on the 9th to review this cycle and discuss next steps.  Our plan is to take off until November and do a second egg retrieval at that time.  Partly because we need a break and partly because we need to save the money so we can afford the meds for retrieval #2.

  • @ChristenMA83 Oh my friend, I am so sorry. @emmasemm has it right—that is soul crushing. I am sending you so many hugs right now.  <3 <3 <3 Good luck at your consult; I hope your RE has some good thoughts. *hugs!!*

@WorldTravler0522 I’m sorry the immunologist was a bust, but at the very least it confirmed your suspicion to stay the course. I for one think your weightloss is a significant thing.

@mighty-mouse OMG no! So many hugs! CPs are horrible as are the whacked out hormones. I know how you feel—I did laugh a bit at “my body won’t even do not being pregnant properly” because that’s so true and exactly how I’ve felt. What did the doctors end up saying?

@funkykey *hugs!!* I feel like the longer we’ve been in the game and the more treatment cycles we go through, the greater the stress we put on ourselves. And I know it must be even higher with the thought this might be the last one. I so want you to get all good embryos, with a strong sense of direction and excellent implantation skills. Good luck!!!!!

@emmasemm Hooray for the green light! I’m rooting for you and those follies to grow properly and not overlook and get you sone good strong embryos like the ones I’m wishing for @funkykey.

@mirabelle33 I feel the exact same way after every cycle. Especially in the last few days of each cycle when I’m so convinced it definitely worked, lol. I totally understand the not wanting to waste an egg. I really hope the month flies by for you.

AFM I vanished last week because I was on vacation, so thanks @funkykey for getting things started twice!

My RE’s office is apparently doing everything in their power to increase my stress level. Case in point, my hysteroscopy is tomorrow and no one has called me with prep instructions (anesthesia is involved) nor even the time (although I got my normal doctor check in email that indicates a time and nothing else). So I’ve left a message with the afterhours service like, WTF.  :|

I also have an insurance related rant so feel free to skip this paragraph because I feel little unfair ranting when I should just be happy to even have insurance. My insurance will cover the PGS testing, with precertification. So I promptly put in the request with my RE’s office to get the precert way back at the beginning of July and...nothing. They did literally nothing until I called and harassed them three days in a row last week. And now my insurance wants additional info before they’ll approve so this just keeps dragging out and I’m more and more pissed because their foot dragging means we’ll lose another cycle. We have a follow up with our RE on the 9th, where we were supposed to discuss all of our test results, including the PGS, along with the recs the other doctors are giving based on said results. I’m keeping the appointment even though it will probably be useless and we’ll need to make another one.

Currently not a huge fan of my RE’s office.

QOTW Good Question! I had a whole bunch of mixed CDs. They were truly random. Now we don’t even have a car #citylife

  • Hey Guys, this could get long but I wanted to update you on my RL specialist follow up yesterday.  I had these enormous expectations of walking in and her having my answers all wrapped up and ready for me to take and implement.  Not so much....  We met with her Fellow first and she seemed so flighty and made me repeat a lot of stuff.  So in the initial discussion with her she was like well there was nothing in your biopsies and we're going to talk about PGT testing your embryos, umm what??? Since when are we back on the embryo being bad?  Long story short she says she's going to update the dr and then pull us in.  We wait and wait and wait and then she pops back in and is like j/k we did find a little something in your biopsy and we will chat about it shortly.  :|  So basically the dr is reviewing my info for the first time about 30 mins before seeing us.

Once we got in to see the dr it was ok but I left feeling a little hopeless and like I'm at square one again.  The short answer is my uterine lining isn't developing and meeting markers it should be by the CD they took it on. So the fix is Progesterone.  So they want me to take Progesterone and repeat the hysteroscopy and biopsies.  UGH!!  Also, as I mentioned before now there's a fever over digging in about my embryo quality and she has the genetic counselor doing research on it to see what they come up with.  The cherry on top?  She was slightly more impressed by my weight loss but wants me to lose more.  I'm just frustrated because all I came back with is lose more weight and lets do more tests.  So I have zero answers.  I seriously want to just give up, I'm so tired of this. Sorry for the novel and sorry to whine.  :(

  • @Worldtravler0522 totally justified rant, it doesn't give u much faith when they haven't even read your notes before you arrive. I guess the progesterone is a new step and gives some hope. Sorry they are making u go through another round of tests.
@Bababatty I hope your procedure went OK after such an unnecessary amount of stress leading up to it. I hope u gave them some feedback because that is not OK.
@funkykey I'm sorry this cycle is so distressing. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way.

Thanks everyone for your kind words, next bloods are on Friday to see what's up
    Bababatty
  • @ChristenMA83 I'm so sorry you're having to go through this again. I echo the sentiment that it just plain sucks. It sounds like you have a forward-thinking attitude about it and I hope the break will give you some time to regroup and get ready for another round. I will be thinking about you on the 9th and hoping your doctor has some encouraging words of advice and a strong plan for November. Keep us posted <3

@funkykey the emotional roller coaster of ttc and IF is so hard and thinking about exploring other options can be comforting but also scary and sad. Go easy on yourself and take it one step at a time. I'm hoping AF doesn't show for you, but if it does, how are you feeling about suppressing? My doctor hasn't discussed protocol with me yet and I'm not sure how I will feel if she wants me to do bcp before starting stims.

@Bababatty ugh I'm sorry you came back from what I hope was a relaxing vacation to deal with scheduling stress and insurance issues! I hope your RE's office got it straightened out and that everything goes well with the hysteroscopy today. Fx that your insurance comes through before your follow-up on the 9th. Sending lots of good vibes your way <3

@Worldtravler0522 oh no I'm so sorry you had such a frustrating appointment with the RPL specialist. It's so unsettling to leave a doctor's appointment that did not go the way you thought it would, especially when you had such high expectations. There is no need to apologize and you have every right to complain about the fellow's flightiness and the doctor's apparent lack of preparation. I know it wasn't what you were expecting to hear and trust me I feel you with the delays, but I do hope adding the progesterone and repeating the test will bring you more conclusive results and a good plan for future transfers. Be kind to yourself about the quality of your embryos and advice to lose more weight. I feel like doctor's tend to question embryo quality when they don't have anything else to point to and we all recognize and applaud the efforts you've already put into losing weight even if the doctors don't stop to take the time and appreciate it.

@mighty-mouse I'm sorry you are in limbo right now :( Did you get any encouraging news from the doctors on Monday or was the advice just to wait for the next blood draw on Friday? Fx your numbers look good then!

@drewsdarlin how did your appointment with the RE go on Monday?

  • @Bababatty - how did the hysteroscopy go? That sucks re: insurance. Also, any news on testing your embryos?

@mirabelle33 - I have mixed feelings about suppressing, but I had decent results last IVF cycle, so they want to follow the same protocol, with only a few changes.

@Worldtravler0522 - Ugh. Sounds like two slightly disappointing doctor's appointments.

TBH, sometimes it seems like some doctors are so woefully out of touch. I think about our doctors here, and then the doctors we know socially, and for the most part, they're nice but kind of, um, privileged. Like, for the most part, from wealthy, sheltered, loving families, given lots of advantages and support, etc. I mean, it's nice and all, but sometimes it's like they actually have NO IDEA how hard losing 70lbs would be. Or like, no idea how hard quitting smoking would be, or why people smoke in the first place. Not all are like that, of course. But every once-in-a-while, especially if the doctor is under 40, it's like: "Come on."

I can totally understand why you'd want to give up, and I can totally understand why you'd be frustrated with the RL specialist. TBH, I think what you've been through would be harrowing. If I were in your shoes, I'd want a doctor who is really respectful, if only because getting to this point has been such a long, hard path.

I haven't been through half of what you've been through, and I'm a bit of a mess. I don't know if you're anything like me IRL, but me, I'm a little numb at this point - like just going through the motions. Half the time, I feel like I'm crazy to keep going. I can't believe what I've put my body and marriage through, to keep going like this. And I wonder, often, if I should just give up, if I should just stop wanting, wanting, wanting, pushing, pushing, pushing and try to make peace with the life I actually have, instead of trying so hard to live another life. So when I have a doctor who is anything other than respectful and informed, it feels like a slap in the face.

I have a lot of respect for you, to keep going. Again, I don't know if you ever feel like I feel, but from the outside, as an outsider, I look at you and I think: "Wow, what perseverance! What patience!" You are being thorough and dedicated, in spite of great challenges. I am keeping my FX that this progesterone cycle gives you some answers, and I think you are a remarkable person. :) Whine all you want!

  • Just checking in with everyone. I was going to start a new thread but I’m only on the iPad... so sorry I’m useless.

@mighty-mouse so sorry you’re dealing with the CP or unsustainable pregnancy... have they done an ultrasound to just check the sac isn’t anywhere strange? Especially if your HCG is still ever so slowly rising.

@christenma83 oh gosh, getting those “less than” results is tough. It’s good you have your follow up quickly, but sucks you need to think about another retrieval

@bababatty I’m also wondering if you got the Hysteroscopy??? I mean with the incompetence you’re looking at I’m not sure!

@funkykey Did AF arrive and did you start the suppression? Will you add in HGH this time just in case egg quality is playing a role?  I listen to the podcast from Dr Michael Chapman “The Prof” (did I mention this before???) who is from your part of the world. If you don’t know it then I advise to skip over the intro as this triggers me every time. But the content is short and normally good quality info.
Did you ever have a second opinion? You know, just to hear a different view, even if only to confirm what you’re told.

@worldtravler0522 oh gosh, I don’t think I can be as eloquent in my response as @funkykey but lady you deserve some damn respect from these doctors!!! I cannot believe after all you’ve lost that weight is your sole answer. I know doing another biopsy including the progesterone feels like getting back on a hamster wheel going nowhere, but maybe just maybe this gives you an answer. But there is still so much we don’t know about implantation that perhaps you are just too awesome for science right now. I’m dreading finishing retrievals and starting transfers to be honest. As I’m also a bit on the “chubby” side (for “bit” read “lot”) and have the autoimmune issues. But that you keep going also gives me strength to think I can fight through that phase too.
Maybe not your intention, but you are an inspiration to me.

AFM well Monday showed 7 follicles but all super small, then today we have 5 that are 7-11mm and two that didn’t grow so much. E2 is still only 140 so next monitoring on Friday and we switched on Monday to drugs every night already. The Microdose Lupron is keeping my LH nice and low so far which is good. And for some reason I feel much more like a normal person on the MDL than I do on cetrotide. Whether it gives me a dream cycle or not we still have to see, but at least I feel half human!

  • Hi everyone. He is having me do some blood work to check AMH and then after that we will talk to him again and decide to do IVF using my own eggs or using donor eggs.

  • @mighty-mouse thank you, I'm hopeful they can get me some answers.  I'm sorry to hear about your CP, I hope things resolve itself soon.

@mirabelle33 thank you for the kind words! I think I'm just tired of all the maybes and just not getting any answers.  I'm sorry about the PG announcement.  I have two people who are close to their due date on my FB and I'm about to unplug again for awhile to save my mental health.

@funkykey first and foremost thank you for the incredibly kind words and encouragement.  I feel super isolated at the moment so the support is appreciated more than you'll know.  I do think you and I are similar IRL.  I ask myself all the time how it is that I keep doing this crap to myself and for what?  I just can't give it up though.  It may sound dumb but I know I am on this path for a reason and I just need to figure out what the hell that reason is.  How are you doing?

@emmasemm Your comment about too cool for science made me lol.  I would also like to thank you for the kind words and encouragement.  I seriously feel like weight is the easy answer, of course it will help me in general but is this the ONLY reason why I'm struggling?  I highly doubt that but I would love to be proved wrong.  Sending you lots of luck for your upcoming retrieval and transfer!

  • @emmasemm - 5!? That's good news, right?! Keeping FX for you this cycle- hoping this works out!
Also, I too laughed at your too awesome for science line. Damn straight!
I've been taking different supplements for like 3+ months now, but no HGH. I didn't have a second opinion officially, but I did talk to another couple of doctors casually about what approach to take. My clinic has the best lab in our area, so I'm pretty loyal. I haven't heard of that podcast, but I will listen!

AF has not started yet... I've had a lot of spotting, but no flow. Aiy.

@drewsdarlin - when will you do the AMH? Sounds like a good plan for moving forward. :)

    @Worldtravler0522 - Anytime! Hang in there!  <3

Yeah, I hear you re: the path and the reason. When we were debating whether or not to do another round, it really came down to: "I'm just not done yet." I don't want to leave a stone unturned, you know? I want to know in my heart that I have done everything reasonable to pursue this. I thought it through, and I thought what I would feel like 20 years from now if I'd given up, and I didn't think I could live with it, I'd be wondering, I'd be resentful. I'm not quite sure where it's going to end for me, but I know it's not over just yet!  :)
