  • So finally after two days mobile bump is working again for me. Not that I post much because mobile tagging sucks- I definitely feel like I was missing out.

  • Congratulations @zg49
  • Woke my son up at 6:30 as per usual, and he came in and hugged DH, then turned around, went back into his room, grabbed his blanket and went back to sleep. He's back up now but it was hilarious that he was basically like, "Nope!"

Now he's having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for breakfast. Not the worst but...I guess we're having lunch for breakfast today!

I have my 39 week appointment today (39 weeks tomorrow) and am excited to see if any progress has been made in regards to the cervix. I'm not holding my breath because I've never had a check this early and even at 40 weeks I'm typically not dilated, but I can touch my own cervix even with having to reach around my belly I'm hoping for something. The appointment isn't until 4:40 so I have to wait all day! Good thing its a pretty busy day today to keep me occupied, visiting DS's grandma and uncle about 45 min away and running some errands.
  • Congratulations @paytonpedro @cseley321 @Sarafuss and @zg49 on yesterday’s baby announcements!

@cseley321 I’m so glad to hear you and baby are now safe and doing well!

@SmashJam  congrats on the anniversary yesterday and hope you and DH enjoyed it! Scheduling your dinner for two days after due date sounds quite daring, haha, but also a great strategy for having something to look forward to even if baby is content on staying put! Good luck at the doctor appointment today, maybe there will be progress!

Can’t say I was very successful with Prime Day, but did pick up some Burt’s Bees onesies and a couple other small items. I did notice Aquaphor on sale last night and am guessing all of you beat me to it after this group’s praise of it on one if the boards cause the deal was sold out!
  • congrats to all the new mamas
    @SmashJam that is awesome!
@summermama18 i ended up not buying a single thing... complete opposite of the last prime day for me
AFM - i was just thinking to myself how lucky I am to have like 2 friends and no family because I was escaping all the "how are you feeling?" "no baby yet?" stuff - then I got to work this week... I've gotten a "how are you feeling" from the same person everyday and like 3 others, and same employee has pinged me saying "you're still here!?" every morning.... tempted to have my skype status be "still here, still pregnant"...only 2.5 more days of work...

  • Congratulations @cseley321@Sarafuss and @zg49 on your baby announcements! And @cseley321 i hope youre feeling less pain today!

As for my prime diaper deals- I guess thats the only perk to being up at 430am every day needing to pee hahaha

    Congratulations @cseley321!  How scary!!!

    Congratulations to @Sarafuss and @zg49!!!

@kbernal2021 My DS4 did a lot of coughing and what I described as choking on spit when he was an infant.  After Googling I suspected "silent reflux" and he eventually got prescribed baby Zantac which made a huge difference (he was also quite the fussy baby and didn't sleep for long stretches).

  • Congrats to all the new mamas over the last couple days! I’m so excited for all of us! It doesn’t even seem real!

@cseley321 I’m so glad you and your LO are ok! That is so, so scary! I hope your pain is more manageable today too.

@kbernal2021 my LO is a little chokey/gaggy on spit up. He was born really quickly and didn’t get a good enough squeeze in the birth canal so he had lots of amniotic fluid in his belly that he’s struggling with. Ped said it should be fine and get better as the days go on.

@wildtot bogus! If you’re visiting a new mom you sign yourself up for seeing all kinds of things you normally don’t see and you have to deal because you didn’t just push a watermelon out of your lady bits (or get your baby cut out of your abdomen!)
  • Thanks @amdftw & @hillbillywife. I'm wondering If its fluid for the same reason, however DD is 3 weeks old today so idk if fluid would still be a concern. Hmm I'll have to ask the pediatrician, it's so tough when there are no upcoming visits. I will have to call!

Where is everyone letting their LO nap during the day? I normally set DD in the swing, bouncer or rock n play but my house is mid renovation and the living room is being worked on right now, so we are hanging out more in our bedrooms. I'm wondering if setting the baby in the co sleeper is a bad idea since she sleeps there at night. I still leave lights on, go on about a normal routine etc. During the day so she knows the difference but she sleeps good long stretches at night and am afraid she may start trying to do that for naps also.
  • @kbernal2021 LO is usually in the swing or in arms during the day. He sleeps in his bassinet at night. With DS1 we eventually transitioned naps to the crib to get him use to it but that was once he figured out days and nights.
  • @comealongponds toddler force field  :D:D

LO prefers to only nap in my arms or a wrap but I try to get him to nap in his swing too. Only 2 reference points so far (trip home and pediatrician) but he also seems to nap great in the car seat. I'm hoping to go to a local bbq hole in the wall after lunch rush, then for a PPU Zippadee Zip from Facebook marketplace today. I feel the need to get out of the house but it's already 91 out, on the way to 104.
  • +1 for LOL at toddler force field @comealongponds

Any moms find a "newborn visitor rules" post/sign they like?  The "first come first to serve" one rubs me a bit the wrong way, but I do like the idea of posting something on the front door reminding people to NOT RING THE DOOR BELL, and remind our smoker family to not smoke on the way or bring a fresh shirt.... amazing how not common sense some of this shit is...

  • @gingerbride26 That is a great idea with the sign/ warning for visitors! I remember with DD I was constantly frustrated by family not being considerate. She got a terrible skin rash at just 3 days old after FIL (chain smoker) held her. Not this time!!
  • @wildtot re: naps, Milo has napped in the Snoo as well with natural light in and noise during the day and that's his nighttome sleeping surface. So far so good!
  • @comealongponds I need a toddler force field! she keeps trying to climb into the rock n play or lay on her if she is in the swing :#

  • gingerbride26 I’m glad you brought up the smoking/shirt thing.  My mom smokes and although I know she will wash her hands, the smell still gets to me, let alone I can imagine my little one once she comes.

She will most likely be staying with us for a few days after the birth…I have no idea how to handle that.  Tell her to go outside and smoke shirtless then come inside and put one on? haha

Anyone with advice on this please let me know.  :/

  • Is there a force field to keep 6 year olds out? DS will NOT leave his baby sister alone! She gets straight in her face while asleep and starts rubbing her, kissing her, talking to her etc. and usually results in her waking up which then results in him getting in trouble because I cant finish what I had started as soon as i put her down. Lol
  • @babygagnon2018 - smoking jacket - give her a button down to wear over her shirt every time and yes require she smokes outside.  None of our family dares to smoke in our house, but they always seem to forget that it's not just the smell but the chemicals that get on you when you smoke and then want to put baby right up on the chest.  My MIL likes to overcompensate with perfume which makes it worse >_< One of my bosses did the smoking jacket/glove thing and hid he smoked at work in his car for a long time.  Funny story but DH actually asked her NOT to smoke when she was watching the baby and thought that would work, i guess she said yes but one day i forgot my lunch and came right back to the house within 15 min of leaving and found her on the back deck smoking with the baby inside alone in the swing....awkward turtle...

  • @paytonpedro your birth story reminded me of my experience with the pit. Those pitocin contractions are seriously no effing joke. Mine was turned up to 15 before I got the epidural, and primal screaming definitely describes what I was doing. I was telling my H I feel bad for any other moms in the unit that had to hear me, it must’ve been terrifying for them lol
  • @paytonpedro my pitocin only went to 5 and once it hit 4 I can definitely relate to your primal screaming. It was really intense and I'm not sure I would do pitocin again without the epi, so sorry to hear it failed :(
  • @zande2016 I said the same thing. I was probably scaring the other moms.

@kissableviv last time I had to wait in line for an epidural and that was brutal, but pushing without was so much worse. I really have no interest in labor without an epidural.
  • @kmac103 so glad everything turned out okay, that must have been terrifying! Congrats, I hope your recovery is easier.

@paytonpedro congrats! I hear you on the failed epidural, I’m so sorry that happened to you. Sounds a lot like my first birth, it took everything in me not to hyperventilate.
  • @paytonpedro so sorry it was so rough - i'm really confused why they were turning up the pit if you STARTED at 2-3 min apart contractions...I will confess the epidural failing was one of my biggest fears with DD.  I got the shakes after her and didn't want to hold her until after placenta delivery and stitch up either.

@kmac103 wow - glad you are ok! I can totally relate to the body taking over and pushing on it's own description - that's exactly what happened with DD and it's so surreal a feeling.  I'm so glad you were already at the hospital too and not trying to get there.

  • @paytonpedro I can also relate on a failed epidural. With my DS I got it because the anesthesiologist was going to a CS so they told me that was my only chance to get it, I got scared and took it and wish I hadn't since it did nothing for me. Noone ever came back to try and redo it so I was S.O.L. You shouldn't feel an episiotomy if your epidural is properly placed and i felt it all. It was the worst. I told myself if I can do that I can do it again, but given my need to stall labor I opted for the epidural and I'm glad I did.

@kmac103 how terrifying! So glad you had a great medical staff and hope your recovery is better!
  • @kmac103 what a scare, glad you're ok!

Random, if anyone enjoys thrillers/mysteries there is a really good show on Netflix with Michael C Hall from Dexter. It's called Safe. Been binging on it while nursing.
  • @kissableviv we binged that show in like 2 or 3 days a couple months ago. Really good!
  • @kissableviv DH and I were obsessed with dexter! We saw safe but were too afraid to start it because we weren't sure if it was like dexter and didnt want to be disappointed!
  • I'll have to check out that show too! Thanks for the rec @kissableviv!

DS woke walking on his heels saying his foot hurt because of the seaweed in it. I look at it and there are 2 two inch long cuts on his foot and one has puss coming out of it...I think he must have gotten it in the pond at DH's grandma's yesterday. It's red around the edges, he can't walk on it, plus the pus...DH thinks I should take him to the doc so I have to wait til they open at 8:30 to take him in. I would be more inclined to cover it in Bacitracin or Neosporin or something, keep the bandaid on and watch it but he's super worried he'll get some blood borne illness. Guess I'll see what the doc said. No dog walks in the woods for us today!
  • nimmlenimmle member
@SmashJam Aw, poor DS. It stinks to get cuts on your feet.

AFM, last night I kept having dreams of my water breaking so I kept having to wake up to pee a million times. I do hope it's true, just don't want it to happen in my bed, lol. Maybe I should put a towel or two down just in case.
  • thanks @gingerbride26 I'll have to strongly "suggest" aka demand that.  sucks about her smoking after you left- my thought is, "my kid, my rules"

@SmashJam i go through the same thing with DH - every sniffle he wants me to take DD to the ped.  Pussy cut from pond I might call, but only after trying peroxide, neosporin, and a bandaid to see if the inflammation went down within a day myself first.  GL - couldn't imagine taking DD to ped by myself this pregnant - you rock

edited to reduce posts.  @babygagnon2018 - good luck! be prepared for pushback - 100% support "my kid my rules" but it seems to be a very common MIL/grandma thing to think they know best.  I really don't see how asking her to put on a different shirt and wash her hands is such a big ask.  If you get a "well i smoked when you/DH were a baby and you are fine" - I'll be retorting with my DH and I both had smoker parents and both have asthma to varying degrees. Not saying there is scientific correlation, but just as valid a statement as "well i think you turned out fine" :-P

  • @gingerbride26 my MIL totally thinks it’s no big deal and fine that she smoked through her three pregnancies. She talks about it like it’s something she’s proud of. Meanwhile my H has breathing issues and asthma like symptoms every time he gets a cold, wheezing and all.
  • So I am completely terrified of mice! We live near a field and have new development going up all around us, so we deal with mice normally when weather changes. Well it's crazy hot here (high today of 105) and they're trying to make there way in. I saw one in our laundry room yesterday and this morning saw one (hoping its the same one) IN my kitchen trash.. yes IN. Since it's just me and DS I'm forced to throw the trash and I'm debating on calling FIL to come and throw it because I am now terrified to even walk in my kitchen. I also get pretty crazy when i see one and will go overkill on the mouse traps, bleaching, and even boycott whatever room I saw it in until it's dead. Seriously wishing my DH were here in times like this.. he never boycotts the areas he sees them lol
  • @kbernal2021 I completely understand.  Totally call FIL.  So many moons ago I happened to kill a mouse in our house by sitting on it (it was hiding in a pillow I sat on)....DH was on his bachelor trip....I called him freaking out and he just laughed at me...then I called my dad who walked me through using tongs to pick it up and throw it out and throw out the pillow...but I did not sleep or sit well for days...  I wish you luck

@zande2016 the kicker is DH has HORRIBLE asthma - he still has to use a nebulizer as an adult esp when he gets a cold or it's allergy season and *slight TW* he almost died of an asthma attack at the age of 4 *TW* - so she should TOTALLY know better.  She's probably in denial it had to do with the smoking. We've been lucky with DD - but she has required a nebulizer treatment at least 1x each winter so who knows how much is genetically weak lungs and how much is smoker grandmacare once a week since 6 weeks old.  For the record - not trying to fear monger, I don't blame MIL for DD's occasional wheezing and I haven't done a ton of research into "3rd hand smoke" - but we do know 1st and 2nd hand smoke is dangerous AF so why WOULDN'T i ask you to change your shirt or not reek of cigarettes around my newborn?
