MOTN 7/2

Re: MOTN 7/2

  • It’s my last night of full uninterrupted sleep before Being in the hospital and then of course newborn baby keeping me up every night, and of course I got up to pee and now can’t sleep. I literally started panicking thinking I messed something up or forgot something for work. Had to breathe through the urge to check my work email (which I actually removed from my phone to prevent myself from working/checking in while on leave). Then started freaking out about the house, my son, my dog, pretty much everything. My mind won’t shut off. Shoulda taken 2 Benadryl before bed to knock myself out!
  • Loading the player...
  • So annoyed.. my neighbors dog will not shut up! It only barks at night... all night every night right outside my freaking window. Its causing me less sleep than my newborn. Seriously considering feeding it benadryl right now

Up tonight with awful heartburn. Tums isn’t doing a thing. Boo
  • Omg so nauseous right now
  • @julianne0 omg I had the same reoccurring dream so many times with my son when he was a baby! I’d wake in a panic screaming that I fell asleep with the baby and he was lost in the bed somewhere, when really I had put him safely back into the bassinet but was so exhausted I didn’t remember doing that/falling asleep. My H would just roll his eyes at my and go back to sleep lol
  • I’m pretty sure baby has his days flipped. Sleeps most of the day despite the noise and all eyes at night. On a good night it takes me about 1.5 hrs from feeding to actually getting back to bed.
  • @julianne0 yes! I thought it was wrapped in the blankets! I was tearing up the bed asking DH where the baby is lol
  • @wildtot my pediatrician always told us to make nighttime as boring as possible I.e. tv off, lights off, quiet starting around 8 or whenever it gets dark out, and keep baby in light and noise during the day. He figured it out eventually but getting there is sooo tough. I hope your little guy figured it out soon
  • @zande2016 yeah we need to set up a bedtime routine for sure. The early morning feedings are tough because it’s so hard getting him to go back to sleep even when it’s quiet and dark. During the day he’s out in the living room with us with tons of noise and he can sleep through all of it.
  • @wildtot my LOs the same way, I even hoped bringing our loud dog back home would help keep her up but no luck so far. The worst for us is 4am and later. I ended up letting her sleep with me after over an hour of trying to get her back down and she slept 3 hours straight, probably would have slept even longer if I didn’t wake up to pee.
  • @acunamatada yup caved in to the co-sleeping at least twice so far. I know it’s normal but i hope these kiddos get the idea soon! Mamas need sleep!
  • @zande2016 @acunamatada glad I’m not the only one! Funny that we all panicked about the same thing
  • Our nights sleep is getting progressively worse this week! Each morning I think that was the worst night and then nope. Tonight I have slept maybe 20 min and it’s 2am. Ds1 won’t sleep! I think he’s having night terrors- he kept waking up crying poor guy. Tried him in our bed and on the floor with his mattress and he just wants to play. I put him back in his room and feel bad but we all need to sleep! The twins actually slept a few hours while I was with ds1 and I’m bummed to have missed out on that sleep. Now I’m totally awake anyway ugh
  • @kbernal2021 we have a neighbor who lets the dog bark at all hours of the night too. I feel bad for the dog, they let it out to do it’s business and then it just barks on their back porch for 5-10 minutes till someone lets it in. Like seriously people, you have neighbors who don’t want to hear your dog

@wildtot our LOs are on the same schedule. He will sleep through anything during the day for 3-5 hour stretches. Then at night he’s up every 1.5-2 hours and I can barely get him (or myself) back to sleep before he’s up again. It’s truly exhausting. And the whole sleep while they’re sleeping isn’t happening bc we have so much to do
  • After I came back from the last diaper change DH said to wake him to do the next one, so I did. He brings me back a baby covered in spit up and he didn't even notice so then I have to go right back out to the changing table and change his outfit, so much for getting any kind of break lol
  • I have an awesome sleeper here except he gets fussy during the "witching hour" - usually between 3-7 is when he'll stay awake after feedings and he'll want to cluster feed (which I feel bad to say but mommy doesn't like...). Aside from that yesterday he slept 8p-12am and went right back to sleep, we woke him and changed him at 330am and now he is feeding again. Fingers crossed he goes down again until 8am. He's been latching for 20-25 min consistently and wetting all the right diapers so I feel like he can go 4 hours especially since even then I still have to wake him up!
  • Up pumping in the wee hours of the morning because LO couldn't latch, again. Can't wait for our next appointment with the lactation consultant on Friday. Trying to bf and then having to pump is exhausting! Thankfully DH is handling all MOTN diapers and takes over giving LO the bottles so I can pump and get back to sleep.
  • Last night was a little bit on getting him back to bed after feeding and change. He’s been able to go 4-5 hours straight at least once a night.
Also hows everyone doing with night sweats? Sometimes i can’t tell if i leaked all over myself or if it’s sweat. The discomfort never ends!
  • @moguippy this dog stays outside all day and night. During the day you can be banging on their fence, in the alley at their gate etc. And the dog never barks. At night it does not stop, its constant and my bedroom is at the back of my house right beside their fence where the dog seems to favor barking. Idk how they dont hear it!
@wildtot the night sweats have been sooo bad for me. They've gotten a little better now that we are 2 weeks out but the first 10ish days were so bad. I'm noticing now my feet feel so hot while I'm sleeping, and during pregnancy they were freezing all the time.
  • Hang in there @kissableviv! I know looking forward to sleep and not getting it can make anyone emotional, and momming is totes hard. Try not to be too hard on your proactive DH, even though praying no one heard the poop might have gotten you some sleep! I hope you did get some sleep after this feed!
  • @kissableviv hang in there! Cluster feeding is hard and exhausting. Could you maybe pump and bottle feed at least once in between to give yourself a break? I also highly recommend the cooling gel pads in between feedings with some nipple cream.

Im just here pumping a bit for relief because LO is still sleeping (4 hrs since last feeling). My boobs were rock hard so just haakaaing it up for relief and hope to still have enough to directly feed when he wakes soon. This is pretty much how I’m building my frozen stash. LOs been having lots of gas and poop diapers and i think it’s from me eating watermelon (maybe my mom was right?) or it’s something i ate that i can’t figure out. I already tried cutting dairy and it wasn’t that.
  • Thanks ladies, I usually hit a wall at night after a long day. I was going to wait on pumping for another week but then the plan is to do exactly that @wildtot so I can get a little break. I know DH is just trying to help but sometimes as you know babies poop in "steps" and they may not even be done after the first "poopy fart". Case in point he just changed a diaper and was just pooped on in 2 stages lol
  • Ah, night feedings. I have not missed you. My milk came in this afternoon luckily because LO hasn't had a poopy diaper since we left the hospital. Spoke with a hospital RN and my pediatrician PA today - both think it's fine since he's increased his frequency of wets and is passing gas. That was a bit worrisome though!

Also, holy cow does he have stinky toots!!! Think maybe it's from the lactation treats I was eating, but yuck!
  • These nursing cramps...uggh! Feeding baby and I think she just finally finished after over an hour. Can't wait for my milk to come in. Tho my other babies were slow eaters too.
@wildtot I had bad night sweats with DS and probably will again soon. It was very annoying to wake up freezing motn and soaking wet.
@kissableviv sorry you had a rough night there. U probably already know this but if the latch hurts break the seal to pull baby off and try again. You'll help him learn how to latch appropriately and help your nipples feel better. A bottle might be a nice break for you too, even if u pump while your husband feeds baby. You got this!

  • @kissableviv If your nipples are raw, call your OB and ask for a Rx for All Purpose Nipple Ointment. I've never needed it personally but i know tons of women that swear by it! Should help reduce inflammation and sore skin in just a few days. Also, what @flockofmoosen3 said. Don't continue a nursing session with a bad latch - break the seal by sliding your finger into the corner of his mouth then relatch.
  • Thanks ladies, it's been much better in the past couple of days, I have gotten into the feeding on demand a bit more, the latch is good and we have sort of a routine figured out. Afternoons are unpredictable but at least we sleep at night!
  • Also yes to pumping we will start doing that probably at the end of next week. We go to the pediatrician on Tuesday and we will find out whether he's back to birth weight!
  • @kissableviv Glad to hear it's been getting better. They had me start pumping at the hospital because the latch situation was so terrible, made worse by the nurses insistence we do a supplemental s&s gravity formula feed system which thankfully the lactation consultant said was BS and to stop right away because it wasn't medically needed. It was such a flipping PITA and took even more time for cleaning and set up. So much earlier than I wanted to be pumping, but at least DS is getting something to eat right? When I pump at night, I don't clean the parts when I'm done, just toss them into a ziplock and into the fridge for the next pumping at the recommendation of the lactation consultant to save time for MOTN feedings. The other upside is everything is nice and cool when I hook up to it the next time which feels pretty good.
  • @noideawhatshesdoing he was barely latching at the hospital too, they had me pump and syringe feed him a couple of times. I was given confusing info and was told to keep pumping when I was discharged but once my milk came in he was staying on the breast way longer and wetting all the diapers. So I called the baby line and they were like oh stop pumping. Like, wtf. Same people from the hospital. I must say there was only one LC I liked. The others and the nurses came in, latched him, they said oh he's good, and left. Then LO would fall off the boob 2 seconds later...

He has been pretty good with the 2 sides and emptying me ok, only thing is he is a DEEP sleeper and so we've had a couple of longer stretches and I do feel a little more engorged then. He seems to catch up though, so I'm holding off on the pumping. Hang in there, it's seriously a tough process but at least for us it got better after 9 days or so.
  • Also @noideawhatshesdoing +1 for my Brest friend. I got a boppy and a MBF and hate the boppy for breastfeeding. Maybe LO is too small.

I also have the boppy newborn lounger and he is too small for that. He sinks in it. Kind of wish I got the dock a total just to have him chill on a good surface while we're in the living room or something. He sleeps well pretty much everywhere - Snoo, peopelsp arms, chest, stroller, car seat. But I hate to see him sinking into the boppy  or even the rock and play! He's so tiny lol
  • Anyone have troubles with a gassy baby? lately she gets so uncomfortable with eithe difficulty burping or needing to get gas out but struggling. When I can get it out by bicycling her legs or after a super long time burping her she seems to finally settle but I hate her cries of discomfort.

anyonr have reccomendations for gas drops?

  • @lindsayleigh1989 I replied to your other post but more specifically, we used the generic brand of simethicone for gas drops, dye free, and that worked well.

@lindsayleigh1989 we had good success with gripe water actually. @wildtot
I’ve got night sweats too it’s so gross! I’m really hot and my head sweats so much ew! I just wash my hair every single day now but it’s hard when you go to bed feeling ok and then need to strip in the middle of the night to stay cool!
Ive  gotten the twins to exclusive breastfeeding! I’m going to the pedi tues so really hoping their weight looks good. My younger twin is out of preemie clothes and I know he’s grown but I’m not sure about my first baby. I’m still pumping every once in awhile just to make sure I’m empty. I got a cold from DH and am so annoyed about feeling crummy and not sleeping! Yesterday I lost two full shelves of frozen milk guys, I’m trying not to be upset but it was so sad to see that it had defrosted- the freezer tripped and didn’t turn back on! Now I only have about 15oz extra, ugh!
  • Yes add me to the night sweats and chills! Some nights I am drenched in sweat others I cant seem to get warm. Baby gave me a 3.5 hour stretch yay! but I am so engorged I have to pump now ugh so tired i just want to sleep
