Re: Weekend Randoms 6/23-6/24

  • @kbernal2021 Wow, you seriously win the positive attitude of the month award! You have so much going on, and could easily be justified in having a big pity party, but instead you’re rolling with it and moving forward the very best you can. (And, well at that!)
I’m going to try and adopt some of your positivity this week, as I’ve been in a funk with my CS countdown looming, and need to be glass half full.

  • @SmashJam yay for potential job! Hope things work out!
@kbernal2021 ugh im sorry to hear of all your stresses at once! Car troubles always come at the worst timing! But yay for your H being there a few days!

well my idiot self was trying to show DS that the nail clippers don’t hurt...showing the clipping action on the skin on top of my hand. Yeah i clipped some skin off and i had to not react lol now sporting a bandaid. DS at least went to nap with no hassle and for 2 hrs which was nice!
  • Congratulations @ethnomusicwhat!!!

@SmashJam fx to getting the job!!

@kbernal2021 dang...great news that your H gets a few days with you however boo to everything else happening all at the same time.

Watching my nieces and nephews today...my niece, who is a bit over 1.5 years old, makes me want to cry. Lol she is extremely ornery!!! I can deal with the older ones (2 boys, age 3 and 6, and another girl age 8) however this little girl just knows how to test the limits. I question my parenting skills because of her.

DH has been getting on my nerves to the point where I would love to just walk away. Cant pinpoint why either. Maybe because I'm over all feeling anxious and he is the closest target...just going to go back to my hole and be an angsty prego until this baby is born.

  • Sending positive vibes your way @pretzellover!!
@SmashJam yay for potential job offers! Hoping you hear back from the library prior to having to sort out the details for the other interview!
@zande2016 that may be me! I'm scheduled for induction on the 2nd and working all next week. DH had to take his truck when he drove down to training and will be flying in on Friday which means we have one car that I cannot be without this week. So i may be driving with my light on until after she is born and i can get someone to help me drop it off unless the guy can fix it in one afternoon when DH is here and can have his dad help him get to and from the shop. FX our issue is on the minor side and is a quick fix.
@wildtot seriously LOL'ed and you clipping your hand and having to hide the reaction. Can't tell you how many times I've done that and felt like such a moron hahaha
  • So wait, how many ladies having their inductions/c-sections this week? Someone is Wednesday but I can't remember, @kbernal2021 you're Sunday and @pretzellover you're Thursday. Who else?? Also...apologies if the scheduled dates are in the spreadsheet I haven't even looked, lol.
  • @SmashJam I am Monday the 2nd, so a week from tomorrow! And I believe @emsnedds shares the same day as me. I also believe @lindsayleigh1989 is soon too!
  • @SmashJam I am scheduled on Tuesday

  • A HUGE yay and congratulations to you. So very exciting! @ethnomusicwhat

@wildtot That is such a "motherhood in a nutshell" moment

Sooo, has anyone had any experience with "skeeter syndrome?" This is the second time in a week DS has had insane reaction, complete with a mild rash/ miniscule blistering at the source and swelling beyond all belief (his hand tonight doubled+ in size in the top). We're managing it with benadryl and ointment, but curious to see if anyone has some experience with a mosquito bite allergy.

@kbernal2021 oh ok for some reason thought the 2nd was Sunday! And @lindsayleigh1989 I thought you were this week but couldn't remember if I was confused and it was next week. It's all happening!

    ETA: I WIN!

  • Excited for everyone having their babies this week!!!
  • So many babies coming this week!! Also, Thursday is a full moon...hmmmmm
  • @zande2016 with DS i remember having the worst cramping and labor symptoms on a full moon but no actual labor. We’ll see how it goes this time.

    @SmashJam fx about the job!!

@zande2016 ik with ya on the pedicure! Have you tried reclining the chair back? I found that helps me.
  • @And846 I was pretty reclined but the baby was just beating me up. A pillow behind my back would have been nice but I felt weird asking so I didn’t
  • @SmashJam I am scheduled on Tuesday
Good luck! I hope it’s entirely uneventful (as I’m sure it will be).
  • @pretzellover thank you! Anxiety is definitely starting to rise but I am just trying to remind myself this isn't an emergency situation like before and baby is stable and so am I.

  • congratulations @ethnomusicwhat!

And I'm so excited for all of you having babies this week!! I can't wait to hear how it goes for each of you.

afm, the past several weeks have flown by but I already feel these last few weeks crawling. I feel like my due date is miles away (the 19th) partly because so much has to happen before that date: hopefully interviewing for a new job, finishing up big projects at work, my work baby sprinkle, my sister coming to town followed by my mom a couple of days later. And I still have some house cleaning/organizing to do but I'm kind of waiting for my mom to get here first so she can help me/do it for me.

I'm a little torn between wanting time to fly and needing it to stay slow so I can get everything done.

    Isabella & Julian & and now #3!
  • @flockofmoosen3 I feel time is flying for me but I'm due 7/7- though thinking more 7/14 at this point as to not keep my hopes up too much...

Agreed with @pretzellover , @kbernal2021 you're my hero! Lots to catch up so sorry for not tagging but yay for babies coming this week and job offers!

DH and I had a fight today and it sucked because we had maternity photos scheduled. We got past it and thankfully had a great photoshoot.

HOWEVER the freaking AC unit we bought from Amazon DOES NOT WORK! Our room was 78 degrees today with the AC on at 63. WTF. So now DH has to return it (HUGE BOX) And we have decided at this point we'll just go to the store and buy one because we don't want to wait for shipping again. It's very disappointing and I'm just so pissed off at my landlords again for teasing us about central AC last year and not following through. Another headache I have to deal with now. I know it's not a huge deal but that stupid carpet in our room and the fact that we get all the afternoon sun makes the room so hot and I'm so anxious about making the LO comfortable.

  • @kissableviv I’d check out Walmart if it’s a window unit you’re looking for. OR, Facebook marketplace! When we moved from an apartment to a new place with central ac, we got rid of our almost new window units, ya never know.

I’m so glad for not having to go into the office anymore. Last night was rough and I got to sleep in til 6:45 (yes, that is sleeping in for me) and now I’m cuddling with my son for a bit before heading up to my desk. My H gave my son and I colds, I have a sore throat. I think we’re both handling it a lot better than he did though.

So many babies this week and next week! Very exciting.

    @ethnomusicwhat congrats!

@kissableviv I’m sorry you guys had a fight, but I’m glad that you were able to get good maternity photos!

AFM this weekend was relatively uneventful. However DH was finally motivated to go through and figure out clothes of his that don’t fit anymore and put them together to donate. He also went through a bunch of the papers that were in the nursery. I have no idea where it came from!  I hope it comes back again next weekend and over 4th of July. **knock on wood**

@SmashJam Yay for potential new job! I’m so glad a lot of opportunities seem to be presenting themselves for you and hope you get an offer soon.
  • @kissableviv we got our portable AC at Costco. It was suppose to be for the kids bedroom but of course it never travels further than the living room. So once baby is here I’m gonna be bugging H to move it because their bedroom gets the afternoon sun. We did give into blackout curtains to help repell some of it and there is a ceiling fan. As long as we are pretty good and opening and closing windows when temp changes I’ve managed to keep it cool enough most days. I know it sucks but don’t stress, it’s an easy fix. Glad your session went well despite the argument!
  • @acunamatada I'm sorry you're still having fake labor!! Hopefully those contractions are actually doing something though!
  • @d_marie_23 my kid gets a bad reaction to mosquitoes and ants. I took her to the pedi once when it was really bad. They gave me some topical cream to put on twice a day that helps soothe and prevent infection in case she scratches a sore open.
  • nimmlenimmle member
@d_marie_23 I get really horrible reactions to mosquitoes and any other bug bite in general and they like to get infected quickly. Best thing is to wash with antibacterial soap and water as soon as you notice it followed by anti itch cream and antibacterial ointments.
  • @d_marie_23 my son gets horrible mosquito reactions if he gets bit on the neck or above. For whatever reason below the neck doesn't affect him near as much. When he gets bit above the neck he literally looks like someone stuck a baseball under his skin at the sight of the bite. So as soon as I know he got bit I give benadryl and start with the ointments and creams. Really it's not taking the bite away but giving him some major relief, also he has some severe allergies so I watch him really closely for any reactions, (swelling near the nostrils, or mouth, trouble breathing etc.)
  • @d_marie_23 do you have calomine lotion (the pink stuff)? That's always been my family's go to to relieve itching/burning on a insect bite...even fire ant bites!

    Isabella & Julian & and now #3!
  • Thanks, everyone!  @zande2016, I did.  I've actually had pitocin with all three, (though just a bit with DS2) and managed to avoid an epidural each time.  I'm all about pain relief, but I hate giant needles; and for me, I can control my pushing better when I can feel *everything,* unfortunately.  It sucks in the moment, but then I recover well.

@SmashJam Good luck!  They both sound like great opportunities!

@ethnomusicwhat thanks for sharing, this is really encouraging for me! I am facing an induction for medical reasons if my body doesn't do it on its own by 39ish weeks. I really want to avoid meds this time, but if I end up needing pit, I at least want to still avoid the epi.

Ugh I am so uncomfortable and having such a hard time making it through my to do list for work today. I feel like I'm accidentally letting things slip through the cracks because I can't focus. My brain just isn't working right these days.

ETA like for example, I should have posted that in the current randoms thread, not the weekend randoms thread, but my brain is mush soooo.
  • @zande2016 I'm so glad that my story could encourage you!  It's totally doable, especially if your doctor/midwife is willing to adjust the pitocin slowly.  But even with my first, which went faster, I was still able to do it.  For me, it's about getting to the point where I don't let the pain make me fight what my body is trying to do.  If you give in to your body, it will push like it needs to.  Focus on that, rather than the pain. Or, as my midwife said, scream down, not out.  :)

  • @ethnomusicwhat my midwife said kind of the same thing about screaming, to make a low long grunt noise during pushing because it helps you focus more energy on pushing out rather than screaming out.
