@BabyRobbinsAdventure oh god, I never thought about poop happening during a bath. Bathing in dirty poo water....*Shudders*
My husband calls it “gators”. He does bath time with the girls, and I’ve learned “WIFE! We’ve got gators!” is an all hands on deck emergency come contain these crazy naked children situation. He boils our bath toys and bleaches the tub every time that happens.

Lol! Z is 20 months and we haven't had this happen....yet. *Knocks on wood* Edited because I don't know how old my own child is.
When ODD was a baby, I'd put her in a warm bath just to get her to poop if she was constipated. We haven't had an unintentional bath tub poop since she was an infant, but I will confess that I would sometimes let her get in a warm bath to help her poop if she was having trouble until she was about 2. But she had all sorts of digestive issues going on and I would have done anything at that point to give her some relief.

My kids are 7.5 and 4 and we’ve never had a poop in the tub so for all of you FTMs don’t worry that this is necessarily an every day occurrence!
Also not super helpful until baby is sitting but for my second once he was good at sitting I used to put him in a laundry basket in the tub with his sister so he had his own space and a little more stability for something to grab onto - worked like a charm and also kept him safer from flailing preschooler limbs.
I feel so out of the loop this time - we got rid of most of our baby stuff so are starting over and in five years stuff has changed so much so I am super thankful for these threads!
@knottieamusements I've seen them, I don't have one. I'd be hesitant to spend $40+ on something baby could out grow within a few months. Z's bassinet said 0-12 months and he outgrew it by 3. But I also had H to help me bathe him in his bigger tub in the bathroom. If I'd had to do it by myself, I would've wanted something for in the sink.
Dumb but practical question: For those without a tub, where do you bathe the baby in one of those portable tubs? do I have to sit on the floor in front of the shower? Can I bathe on the kitchen counter, or is that going to be a ginormous mess? We have the same laminate flooring in both the kitchen and bathroom, so a little water on the floor isn't a problem anywhere.
@melbo444 our kitchen sink was big enough that we were able to set the baby tub on top of it and bathe newborn DS that way, but around month three or so, it got pretty messy because he realized kicking water was super fun. Then we put the tub into the bathtub until he was able to sit on his own and not need the baby tub.
We also didn’t have any poop in the bath unless we wanted it. Both boys had very bad constipation issues so we had to make “poop baths” to help them go (2 Tbsp baking soda in a warm shallow bath). It was gross, but it worked. Side note, I never would have expected that much poop to come out of such small people. It was kind of amazing once you got past how gross it was.

@melbo444 - we have a bathe, but for both kids, we would fill the baby bath tub up and put it on top of the counter in our bathroom so we didn't have to bend over. It wasn't that big of a mess, really.
@melbo444 We would put the tub rested over the kitchen sink for probably the first month or two. Then we put it on the floor of the shower and would sit on the floor next to it.
Possibly FFC, but we rarely bathed DS as a newborn. We aimed for once a week but realistically it was more like every week and a half. They just don’t get dirty (unless there’s a diaper malfunction). I don’t remember when we got on a more consistent schedule. Few months maybe? Now at 17 months we aim for every other night but end up doing baths most nights since he’s just gross at the end of the day (outdoors + food).
Maybe this is naive, as I'm not a parent yet. But bath time to me isn't so much about getting cleaned up as it is about starting the bed time routine. To me it signals, okay, let's calm down and get into our sleepy mindset. I'm still conditioned to do this today, at the ripe age of 29. @tinattt23
@melbo444 I was bathed in the kitchen sink as an infant. Probably had some type of bath thingy, but idk. My mom keeps assuming/(encouraging) I'm gonna do the same thing, but the nursery is upstairs, and the kitchen is downstairs, so not gonna happen.
ETA: @sliztee ohhhh routines. I used to babysit for this family that had no routine and it was horrific. The kids wouldn't sleep, wouldn't brush teeth, and the younger one kept crying because he missed his parents so his brother kept showing him pictures of his parents and making it worse. I tried EVERYTHING to get them to sleep (singing, reading, frantically calling my mom crying..) and then there was another family whose kids went to bed super early, and they practically put themselves to bed at like 730. It was great. I just watched TV and did homework all night. Definitely going to be all about the routine.
Hmm. Maybe a good topic for discussion, routines. I know it's huge for parents of multiples. I know that at the beginning you can't do too much routine wise, but I want to try and set a schedule if possible for G.
Regarding routines, we didn’t really get on one until DS was maybe 2 months old. They just kinda eat and sleep whenever they want to for awhile and you just survive and deal with it. But we are big believers in routines and set bed times and meal times as much as possible, and maybe DS has just always been easy to put down for naps and bed naturally, but I think routines have a lot to do with that.
Same as @Lisa3379. We’re big on our routine now. But early on, it’s just an endless cycle of eating and sleeping and crossing your fingers the sleeping part lasts long enough for you to eat/shower/sleep. Around 4-6 weeks I started keeping a log of when DS ate and sleep and started to see some patterns emerge. But it was still a little while longer until you could reliability count on or force anything to happen at specific times.

I went down a Pinterest rabbit hole of routines (both for baby and for mom) and stumbled upon this Type A genius mom's blog: The Ultimate Newborn Sleep Schedule: Week-by-Week
