Product Spotlight: Gliders and Rocking Chairs

Re: Product Spotlight: Gliders and Rocking Chairs

  • Dutalier gliders are amazing. They're so comfy!!!! My main issue as a tall person was most of the rockers weren't supporting my head. The dutalier did, so it was worth it! I'm on my second kid and it still looks great! It can rock AND the back can adjust. They're expensive but worth it imo.

That the biggest problem I've come across in testing out rocking chairs, if I put my head back there's no support and I'm looking at the ceiling..
I want to be able to comfortably rock one or both babies as well.
  • Yessss thank you @sammierose464, this is the one thing DH and I can’t agree on, so I guess I needed this thread!
  • I was looking at the babyletto glider- it has a phone charger built in!
  • No idea what we have. Went to BuyBuyBaby. Sat in them all. Picked the one that was most comfy within budget. Done and done.
  • I've been told to make sure it has arms and to get an ottoman as well. I'm getting a glider from crate and barrel (yes, it's super expensive ugh) and it's soooo comfy. The ottoman moves too, so your feet/legs don't awkwardly stay still while you rock.
  • I second dutailier gliders. They are the best!
  • We have the Dutailier Lungo with ottoman - best chair ever. A total splurge (well, for the grandparents it was - that was our gift last time from all of them) but it was the style we liked and it seems like they’re made well. We also liked it because once babies are too big, we could easily see putting the chair in our living room or our basement, whereas a lot of the rocking chairs we saw were a totally different style.
  • Off what @Lisa3379 said, we purposefully picked a solid neutral color over some of the cuter more nursery looking fabrics so that it could same day migrate to a different room.
  • Is there such a thing as a reclining glider / rocking chair? I want a glider for our living room for late night nursing but I have to recline to nurse comfortably.

  • We bought a recliner/glider/swivel/rocker chair from a furniture store. We had a harder time finding things because what I liked, H didn't. But he's 6'2" and I'm 5'4" and that's the crux of our issues. This is still a little larger than I like, so I use a decorative pillow in tnr small of my back. That's all I need, and really only because I have sciatica issues.
But it's awesome! It was like $100, and we liked it so much we bought one for our living room. We also got a neutral color to use in other kid's rooms later and eventually transition to a general use area.
  • @mytrueloves I've never seen a reclining glider, but I just used a regular recliner that my folks had. I found it to be much more comfortable than the rocking chair my grandma gave me while I struggled with nursing. And if Z needed to be rocked to sleep, I just bounced him in the recliner or paced the room with him, both of which prevented me from falling asleep with him in my arms.

  • @mytrueloves yes they do make gliders that recline. I just registered for one because my place is too small for a chair and ottoman, but I still want to be able to put my feet up. They have a bunch on Amazon. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0756T91HP?colid=3RV5STKDUCF60&coliid=I28Y8CLCOXG6EF&ref=br_mb_ov_item_detail
The babyletto one is a glider/recliner. It's supposed to be really nice, but pricy

  • I’m looking for something smaller than a normal glider...something kind of like this...any recommendations? Our nursery is pretty small and can’t fit a full glider :(

  • My parents are buying a rocker for us once we pick one out. I haven’t even started looking though because I’m a procrastinator. I just wish the old fashioned all wood ones like my grandma had were more comfortable. If I could find one that looked like an old one but was a reclining glider and had a nice cushion I’d totally go for it!
  • I also agree Dutailier is awesome! My MIL bought it for us. It was pricey, but I love it. It glides and reclines. We also bought the ottoman which I definitely recommend!

Just FWI, we got our Dutailier at Buy Buy Baby and it took 16 weeks. So if you’re planning to buy a glider you should start shopping soon. We ended up borrow my MILs for the first month, because we didn’t have ours yet.

I'm gonna revive this because I still cant find a rocking chair I like... I really only want a high back, cheaper price, an ottoman would be nice but not required, and maybe a little wider since I could be rocking two at a time..  :#
  • @mamabearcj are you opposed to second hand? You could check thrift stores, consignment shops and market place.
  • cjx95cjx95 member
@cdepperschmidt I'm all about that second hand life!!
  • We had a dutailier with my first two and it was just ok - it was nice and tall and wide which I liked as I am taller but it really wasn't comfortable enough for the amount of time I spent in it - I didn't really anticipate it getting used nearly as much as it did! Also, the sides of it are huge pinch hazards because they have the open sides with so many little pieces as it moves - both my kids have hurt their fingers/hands in it over time.

This time I decided to bite the bullet and get something super comfortable and that also reclines so that during the day, once baby is asleep I can recline and be comfortable when I let him/her nap on me (and I plan on doing that as much as possible this time since it's my last one...I don't believe you can "spoil" babies with too many snuggles! I let both my kids sleep on me as babies and they are both good sleepers now so I don't think it ruined them.)

We got this glider/recliner off of Wayfair and it is amazing - so smooth and comfortable and perfect for taller people (also fairly wide). And way less pinch points than our last one!

  • @chyvie I think I linked the wrong picture - the one shown is the more expensive fabric one but looks almost identical. This is the one we got:

Very timely to see this thread again! DH and I were just looking for a glider, something sturdy and will match the nursery.

Wayfair is having a ‘black Friday in July’ sale, so we bought this chair/ ottoman and a rug. Matches our DaVinci grey and white crib.

  •  A rocker is going to be my parents’ baby gift to us which I think is great!! I’m hoping to go shopping for one when they are out the first week of Aug. I really hope I can find something that fits ok because I’m short. Furniture shopping is a nightmare when your feet don’t reach the floor most of the time!
  • We bought ours on the weekend along with the crib and dresser. My friend gave us a tip on a great local discount baby place. We intended to go in just to look but everything was a great deal so we took the plunge. I was looking at 2 different ones, both grey comfy rocker recliners. One of them was a lot softer but felt really janky when you reclined and I honestly didn’t have the leg strength to unrecline it because it had that black pull control at the side instead of a handle. The one we ended up getting was noticely firmer but felt a lot better made and had a handle for reclining and putting the footbrest down which I now think is vital for me. I know it’s probably going to be more of a rocking chair than a reclining chair but I’d recommend trying in person if you ever want to sit back and relax or even sleep in the chair.
