@mmom3 so crazy! I went to the salon the other day to have my hair dyed and she asked when I last colored my hair and it was last June! Once I found out I was pregnant I chose to not color my hair.
Has anyone had trouble transitioning baby from sleeping in bassinet to a crib? Jeffrey is still sleeping at night in his SwaddleMe Bassinet however he needs to nap at daycare in a crib and he can’t seem to stay asleep for more than 10 minutes in the crib. I’ve tried having him nap in his crib while home but he wakes up shortly after being put down. Any tips or suggestions?!

Mine is the same way - she only naps in her crib for short times. when she has her swaddle on or I swaddle her legs with a blanket she sleeps for a longer stretch but to be fair I haven’t tried having her sleep overnight in her crib just for naps when I’m off and when we put her down at 7/7:30 until her 10:00 bottle that seems to have helped - but I bet with daycare they won’t swaddle your LO.

That is freaking terrifying that her midwife gave her the option on whether to give birth with meconium present in a dirty hotel room versus a hospital setting.  That is not ok.  In so glad the baby is ok.

Holy crap @ the hotel birth story! I did a NICU rotation last semester and there was a 39 week meconium aspiration baby that was having a way harder time breathing than a 27 week baby. The nurses there said meconium aspiration can be really bad.. I dont care how you choose to birth but I feel like that midwife took a huge risk allowing her to choose that.  I'm glad the baby is fine but I would never take that kind of risk with my child.

Now I'm wondering what kind of midwife it was.  Was it the trained RN with a masters degree (I cant believe an RN would have given her the option) or the lay midwife (who may have a lot of experience but does not have an degree). In my city all we have are lay midwives at the 2 birth centers.

@sgrn18 I am a RT and have seen how bad meconium can be.  Babies can die if intervention is not received quickly.

If this is even a legit story I highly doubtful it was a credible midwife with credentials.  She could lose her license over practices that risky.

I am hoping it’s MUD. What hotel let’s you birth a baby there?

It almost sounds like a free birth with a friend who calls herself a midwife.  Maybe Dr. Google told her meconium wasnt so bad (she probably had to go to the 3rd page to find that nugget) Soooo many questions.

WOW- Gives a whole new meaning to hotel incidentals

thanks @shoretobe! I’ll try laying him down in his crib between when he goes to bed and his last bottle for the night/when I go to bed.

Y'all ... We are staying with my in-laws while our house is being finished. I love them to death but my MIL keeps mentioning giving Nate rice cereal. Well yesterday I had the thought, "if she mentions rice cereal one more time...." and then today, guess what? SHE BROUGHT SOME HOME FROM THE STORE! Nate is 9 weeks and 14 pounds. I'd say my milk is doing him JUST fine.

@mccurleya OMG THE FREAKING RICE CEREAL!! My MIL is in town this weekend and I told my husband if she mentioned rice cereal I'm not responsible for what comes out of my mouth.  I can't believe she brought some home! Like do they listen at all??

Also I looked at it at the grocery store and it clearly says supported sitter on it. A 9 week old is obviously not going to fit that category.

NO. And the boy sleeps just fine at night. I know she means well but I'm tired of hearing it every day. He's very healthy and full enough from milk alone.

@mccurleya My grandma brought up the damn rice cereal every time we saw her with DD. I had to tell her that wasn't really recommended any more.

@megpeg OMG that story. I'm glad it worked out, but I just don't understand not going to a hospital after seeing meconium.

@mccurleya - April birth stories.  How does a hotel room in itself seem like a safe place to deliver a baby?

Our heat index today was 110. We are on track for the hottest May In Texas. MAKE IT STOP!!  How am I supposed to dress a baby for this? I had to turn on my car for 20 mins before I felt like it was okay to put him in it.

@sgrn18 I have no ideas - maybe a short sleeved onesie? Just sorry cause that stinks.

So my baby's little toe nail fell (ripped??) Off today...umm, will it grow back???  It's a tiny tiny nail!!
  • Options
@sgrn18 I do the same thing. It's so hot here! I keep him in a short sleeve onesie. Sometimes no clothes if we're inside

@sgrn18 we were doing no sleeved onesies last week when it was hot here.

I went out and bought those tank top onesies yesterday! I'm going to give those a try and hopefully I wont have to resort to toting a naked baby around lol it only gets hotter from now til August

Speaking of hot and gross. Do you use a sunscreen on LO? Which one?
  • Options
I dont use sunscreen on them until six months.  I keep them out of the sun until then.  We only hace chlorine pools around here, so I avoid those too with little ones.
  • Options
@mccurleya IDK what it is with grannies but all the older women in my family have mentioned rice cereal at least once. My mom bought us a package when he was only 2 weeks old! I just kindly explain that "these days" we do things differently. Making them feel old usually works so they don't bring it up again. Lol

@DDRRT1982 same. No sunscreen and no pools. My husband's cousin has a 4 month old that she has taken swimming and she asked me why I haven't taken Wyatt. I told her there are too many chemicals in the pool and she got all wide eyed and said she hadn't even thought about that. Really?!  :s

Is anyone else using cloth diapers? So far, we've used Grovia and Rumparooz. I am not a fan of the Rumparooz and I thought Grovia was the best until just this morning when he wore his first Twinkie Tush. Holy hell, it's so soft and absorbent. What brands do you other cloth moms use?

We have a lot of hats to keep sun off. We have a pool and try to keep chemicals at a minimum but it’s not ready for the year yet so he hasn’t been in. DD went in our salt water pool at 2 months.

I've put Nate in the chlorine pool twice now and he's loved it and we've had no issues. I keep him in a long sleeve swim shirt and a hat to protect from the sun

I’d probably put in a salt water or infant pool if the option was available.  Still wouldn’t do sunscreen, but sun block if I could find any.  That is supposed to just sit on top of skin vs being absorbed.

@vflux33 I say go for it, just be in the shade.  We fill our kiddy pool with warm tap water from the house when we do pool/water table time.

We live in Texas too and she’s been in our backyard pool because with a 3 year old and 100 degree weather...We just let her put her feet in.  There’s too many rules these days with children.

Last week was my first full week back at work and come 8pm I am SO tired.  I feel bad since that’s our alone time after both kids are asleep but being someone to everyone is so darn exhausting!  I don’t mind getting up once to feed her and having those snuggles since I miss them during the day but will also be happy when she finally drops that feed!

  • Options
@slr1229 last week was my first week back at work too. The other night I actually nodded off while feeding him and it was only 7:30pm! I’m at a whole new level of exhaustion now. I do pretty good during the day but once we get home I don’t want to move. So we usually just snuggle for the first hour we’re home

My LO hadn’t latched for more than a minute or so in about 3 weeks and then suddenly last week started latching again. Happy that we’re seeing progress but bummed out that my supply’s taken such a hit that most of her diet now is formula. Also, how much is everyone’s baby eating? It seems like mine has hit her 3 month growth spurt early because she’s constantly hungry.

    sgrn18sgrn18 member
@maelily15 My LO was eating about 4 oz every 3 to 4 hours but at the two month appt I was telling the dr that sometimes it's every 2 hours so she told me to give him 6oz at a time (I'm doing 50/50 breast milk and formula).  That being said some days he will eat every 6 oz bottle no problem (still every 4 ish hours) and some days he will take 2 oz here 3 oz there like he just wants to snack all day long. He is about to hit 3 months this week but I think he had his growth sput early he has already doubled his birth weight(6lb  5oz.) plus 2 lbs. This kid has put on weight like crazy.

So today is Cora’s 2 month checkup. That means shots right? It’s been too long since I’ve had a newborn. Should we be giving pain meds to help or no meds this young? I do remember that the oral vaccinations always causes pain in my babys’ tummies.
