Baby Brain!

I don’t know if baby brain is actually a thing, but I have days where I feel like a complete airhead right now! I sat on the toilet the other day WITH my underwear still on. I went to try on a new top my MIL bought me without taking off what I was already wearing. I told my sister how excited I was she couldn’t go on a trip I invited her to and felt awful because what I really meant was how sad I was! And worst part is I’m a medical professional! I hope my patients don’t lose all faith in me...! Please tell me I’m not the only one dropping IQ points left and right!
PS-Don’t worry too much about my patients, luckily I’m not in a life or death type of setting at work!

Re: Baby Brain!

  • This didn’t happen with my last pregnancy, but it’s totally happening with this one. I am constantly unable to remember common words or phrases or forgetting what I was going to say in the middle of saying something. It’s driving me crazy!

I love a good gif party.

Edit: and also any excuse for Meryl Streep.

  • I think it’s spread to my husband! Last week he brought his deodorant with him into the car with us. And a few days ago I found a screwdriver in the bed after he had slept with it all night.
  • @cdepperschmidt I agree. We should have a baby brain thread!

@mamat2be welcome! <3 It'll be much easier to get to know you!
I'd add a baby brain moment, but I can't think of any right now... And don't worry, I've had plenty! I've been forgetting to call people back and boring things like that. Baby brain is real y'all!  :#

  • I put lettuce in the freezer and ketchup (open) in the cupboard. I've done a few other things, too, but those are the ones I can remember right now. Which is most of it...just forgetting EVERYTHING.
  • Oh my gosh @acciocoffee! That must have been insanely scary!

@acciocoffee oh that would be alarming! Glad you safely pulled over!

  • @chopchop25 It was horrible! It's honestly one of my biggest fears because my pregnancy brain gets so bad.

@chopchop25 I was late to the game, but looks like this has turned into a legitimate discussion, so I'm thankful I missed it!@acciocoffee Oh my god, that's terrifying! I'm so glad it was nothing! My baby brain hasn't been too bad.... except that time I forgot I was pregnant and applied for all those jobs. But I have a job waiting for me after baby if I want it so that worked out I guess. ETA: Why is it crunching my post into one giant paragraph and not letting me fix it?!

  • Oooh my goodness am I glad to hear that baby brain comes in all these varieties. I’ve put milk in the cupboard, am constantly forgetting words mid-sentence, and more often than not, someone will ask me a question and I register 0%. I honestly feel crazy

@krzyriver I too forget I’m pregnant most of the time! Guess that will go away when I start to feel baby move around. Congrats on the job!

I usually have a pretty great vocabulary when speaking to individuals, especially in a professional setting. Lately, I have been severely struggling to recall basic words I ordinarily wouldn’t think twice about using, particularly adjectives!

I've been having like mush mouth lately!! The words are coming faster than I can say then and I get tongue tied and have to start all over!
  • I haven't had any major issues. Although, one night I forgot to turn off the oven. Last week I cooked 2lb of hamburger in the pressure cooker and forgot to put the left overs away and they sat out over night.

This Saturday, I forgot my purse when leaving the house. Not a big deal, I just put my phone in my pocket and went out to an event at a local farm with the family. Realized halfway through that I didn't have my phone. Couldn't remember if I'd left the house with it at all, so after a failed search of the farm went back to the house. It wasn't there, so back to the farm we went. We eventually managed to ask the right person, at which point my dear pink phone and I were reunited. It had fallen out in the parking lot before we ever made it into the event and I just hadn't noticed. If I had remembered my purse in the first place... well, I probably would have lost that too.
  • I’m late to the party and saw this after OP changed her name and couldn’t figure out why everybody was posting “who are you?” Gifs... like, was everybody having trouble remembering who people are? Nope, just me being unable to differentiate between 2 posters with kind of close but not really names.

I also frequently can’t remember what day it is, but somehow manage to get to the things I’m supposed to. Like when I saw the Monday BF post today and thought, “oh, it’s only Monday” despite not taking the kids to school this morning. Or when I had to fill out today’s date at my last OB appointment and first I put my birthdate, then I realized what it was asking for, so I changed the year. Then it occurred to me that the rest also wasn’t right and put the month for the day, then fixed the month but couldn’t figure out the day & had to look it up.  I’m sure they thought I was a complete idiot when they saw all the scribbles by the today’s date line.

@acciocoffee Scary, but at least you dropped her off instead of coming out of work to find that you forgot to.

BABY BRAIN PSA (or really all the time) - always, ALWAYS, check the car seats when you get out of the car, even if you know the kid(s) are not with you. It’s a habit that could save their life some day.

That was totally my fault. I’d blame baby brain, but it really is traveling brain instead.  I’m just glad I have coverage for the weekly check-in tomorrow, even if the two of us aren’t the only ones mixed up on days.
  • Shortly after DS was born, I closed the garage door while I was still half in the garage. The baby brain doesn’t go away.

For those worried about forgetting a baby in the car, leave one of your shoes in the back with baby. You won’t make it far with one shoe. I used to make DH do this when DS was an infant because he’d regularly forget he was with us when we were out together.
  • Wow it’s so reassuring to hear all these stories from everyone! We had Book Club last night and my husband and I Cooked together— I literally forgot the steps of the recipe 10 times, couldn’t find the olive oil and then found it in The fridge!?  I went to meet my friend for a hike, and couldn’t find my car keys when I parked at the hiking site— finally found them and then couldn’t find my cell phone! Finally found my cell phone and then had no idea where I had put my car keys again!! This is real, folks. And @jweber4747, really? The brain cells don’t come back?
  • @jweber4747 is right...those brain cells are gone for good! Haha
  • I was volunteering at a cooking class last night and lost someone’s pie crust for a good 10 minutes. Luckily I found it again and was able to blame the random location on a student ;) people shouldn’t trust me with things anymore, apparently.

@tinattt23 good idea with the shoe trick!
  • Yesterday we had to go to town to sign papers for DH's cattle so we for back for late naps. I knew the girls would be sleeping yet when school let out so I was gonna text someone if they could give DS a ride home. I fell asleep and woke up 15 minutes after school let out and hadn't messaged anybody! I quick called one of the ladies that go by my place and she, luckily, had left school but was still close and went back and got him! She saved my bacon!

My mom just told me about another child that was accidentally left in a vehicle. She said the news article recommended putting something you'll need in the back seat with the child, so you had to go back there when you got to work or wherever.

  • Texted MH about 30 mins ago to ask if he’d be home for dinner because I forgot to pull the beef out of the freezer so won’t be making what I planned.  He is picking up pizza, but it just occurred to me WHY he is going to be home that early tonight... I have a meeting to go to. I completely forgot about it... glad I showered today!

  • I am the president of my sorority housing corp and alumni associate. We meet once a month to discuss updates to the house and alumni events. I totally forgot until about 2pm on Monday that we had our monthly meeting that night. I was at least able to send out a quick reminder to everyone.
  • I got into the habit of always putting my purse/diaper bag in the footwell under DDs car seat. So far so good, I guess?!
