UO Thursday (5/3)

I know it's a bit late in the day, but I didn't see this posted so I thought I'd start it. Opinion away!

So a little back story. I’m an elementary music teacher and it’s time for my 5th graders to pick a promotion song. I ask for suggestions from the kids and the teachers. One of the teachers who is younger (maybe 23) suggests “World’s Greatest” by R. Kelly. I listen to the song and I’m like oh I remember this song, this would be cute, so I put it on the suggestion list. Now I vaguely remember all the R. Kelly stuff that went down when I was like twelve, but apparently he’s in the news again. So some of the other teacher were basically like F no.

Which brings me to my UO. I hate how once we find out a celebrity is a terrible person, their music or film becomes blacklisted. I get that we don’t want to support these people and that listening to their music and watching their shows gives them money so that’s why people boycott it, in addition to on principle, but I just want to enjoy my entertainment.

Ask your colleague if she still enjoys Chuck Berry.

Put the song credits in the program as Robert S. Kelly, instead of R. Kelly.

I know food ones can get kinda boring, but it was all I could think of. 
I don't like watermelon. I've had good ones, and on a picnic sometimes, it hits the spot, but I just don't care for it. I've only met one other person who didn't like it either. Like they said, I'll get my water a different way!

@coffee-saur I'm with you on the watermelon. When you tell people you don't like it they always say it doesn't really taste like anything. Yes it does. It taste like yuck.
But a watermelon flavored Jolly Rancher on the other hand... I'll eat those all day!

Love watermelon, can't stand cantaloupe. It always smells so good and people are always like try this one it is sweet and really good .. Nope still tastes nasty.

@SawyerRichardson Yay! I can up the number of people I know who don't like watermelon up to 2! I'll get really weird looks over that one...

I don’t really care for watermelon and DH doesn’t like it either. I hate cantaloupe though! Ugh just the thought of the smell of it makes me heave!

@SweetSweetTooth hit it on the head. Definitely not a cantaloupe person...or honeydew for that matter.

I hate all melons except watermelon. LOVE watermelon. For the haters out there...have you ever tried it with salt? That's the only way to eat watermelon, in my opinion. Makes it taste so much better (and taste like something, at least).

Is it a UO that I like all the melons then?  The only thing I hate about them is how hard they are to cut (& that watermelon is so messy and is hard to eat without looking like a toddler or cutting it into small chunks).

Good melon is so good. Bad melon is ugh. I like melon, I keep going back, and I’m so often disappointed. Haven’t learned my lesson yet, though...

I don’t like alcohol. It tastes nasty (no matter how much someone swears that so and so actually tastes good). And I don’t like how it make me feel. I just get all paranoid which isn’t any fun. Being pregnant is great because I don’t have to justify why I’m not drinking.

@tinattt23 I'm not a big alcohol person either but I LOVE beer. The rest I'd be fine to never drink again

AH no!! Nicki Minaj is a douche canoe and Cardi B is hilarious and real and I love her.

Also love melon of all varieties and most alcohol.

@cdepperschmidt with you on the entertainment thing. I get not wanting to condone or support gross behavior from celebrities, but sometimes you just want to enjoy the art you like. And especially if you already own it, it kinda feels like it really doesn’t even matter. I mean I know Louis CK is gross but I really like a lot of his comedy, and the specials are still on Netflix sooo... I’m going to keep watching them.

+1 to still thinking Louis CK is funny. The bit about his tiny bathroom and having to shit with one foot in the bathtub...idc what he did, it’s still funny! Speaking of comedy, any fellow Trailer Park Boys fans?

@jynjer91 yeah. His jokes about his kids are particularly good too. And I’m still just impressed with his 2017 special. He did a bit about abortion that was FUNNY. How do you make abortion funny?! It’s just not a funny thing.

I used to enjoy liquor more in college. Now I prefer hard cider and some occasional wine, that's about it. I hate beer.

I love wine...like love. After I visited family in Spain, it changed my life. That being said, I don't like whiskey or bourbon. I think the smell is really overpowering and I don't get the appeal of it because no one ever really looks like they enjoy it while they're consuming it.

don't like beer, don't drink much overall. Maybe 2-3 times a year?! But I have found I really really like some hard cider just for drinking. If I am eating I enjoy the Siegrams 'flavored beer' (it is what the label says!) drinks, hard cider tastes like beer if I drink while eating - yuck.

#TeamDontDrink - I enjoy an occasional cocktail (like 3-4 a year), but I can’t stand beer. I don’t have trouble justifying not drinking because I just don’t put up with that shit.

#TeamOutOfTouchWithKidsTheseDays -Amusingly, with the conversation about drinking, I thought that Cardi B must be a kind of liqueur.  

#TeamEnjoyYourEntertainment - Seriously.  I go back to Chuck Berry. St. Louis icon.  *Tigger Warning* - also convicted for transporting a minor across state lines for sex.  Nobody talks about it.  His statue is still prominently displayed in a major tourist/shopping area.  The only difference between him and so many of these other celebrities is he did what he did in the 1950s.

My only awareness of Cardi B was when she turned up knocked up on SNL. I actually pride myself on not knowing who these people are.

I love melons! And salt on watermelon is like other worldly, DH looks at me like I'm crazy but I love it.
Cardi B isn't too bad, I like some if her songs and I like that she's just being whatever she wants in interviews and such, good for her.
Beer is DISGUSTING can't drink it, liquor and wine, great! I went to a total wine and more for the first time on Tuesday because those aren't around me and I was so impressed lol granted it did nothing for me in my current state but I was getting beer for my dad and DH so it was cool to see.

LOVE wine, scotch, bourbon, and craft cocktails. Not a big beer drinker, since I never had "real" beer because of the gluten thing, so I only occasionally have a GF pale ale. There's also some really good alcoholic ginger beer/cider on the market that I like. Most hard ciders are just too sweet!

Add me to the list of not big drinkers. Pre pregnancy I was like a one drink occasionally type of person, though I did always enjoy a good hard cider. That’s always my favorite. 

Also, honeydew is the worst, but a good watermelon or cantaloupe is awesome. 

My UO is that I think all perfume/cologne should be banned. If you use it because you’re trying to cover up some other smell, then you should take a shower. If you use it just because you like it, well then you should just go away. Don’t subject everyone else around you to your smelly perfume just because you think it smells nice. Some of us are very sensitive to smells, even when not pregnant, and it’s just not cool. (Sorry if any of you are perfume lovers out there). End rant.

@pumpkinpancake OMG YES +10000000 to the banning perfume/cologne. It's a major migraine trigger for me, and makes my allergies worse, so now it's just worse that I'm pregnant. There's a woman at work who wears A TON and you can tell where she's been in the last 15 minutes because the smell lingers. In the bathroom, in the elevator, or even if she just walked by.

@jemmerjams check out Crispin hard cider. I like sweet and that one did not taste sweet to me so I didn't like it lol

My UO is that I think most of the nursery designs (and many of the fabrics used for baby equipment) is boring and done more to appeal to parents’ taste than what the baby might enjoy.  

Everything is grey and white and “modern”.  Why don’t people do things with bright colors and prints that will appeal to toddlers and young kids?

Yes, primary colors don’t “go with” the decor of the rest of my house, but then, absolutely nothing baby “goes with” the rest of my house. It is going to be a crazy evolution over the next few years.

My husband feels exactly the same way, @knottieamusements!

I reasoned with him and said that when they can express their desire for the colors/decor they want their room, they'll definitely get it.

However, I feel pretty strongly about keeping a nursery relatively calm and quiet, because I want the baby to know it's the place that they sleep and take breaks.
