(I know we started to touch on this already last week, and I feel like this could be a treasure trove of awkwardness / hilarity!)
Appts this coming week? We have a follow up scan today to check in on baby and make sure the good kidney is doing its job.
How're you feeling this week? Still feel good but my feet hurt. I was on them all weekend and may have over did it.
GTKY: What is the funniest or most awkward IL moment you have had? Or from your own parents, if they are awkward enough? I have a whole library of awkward IL moments to choose from. I will choose the time I came home from a business trip knowing MIL and her SO were visiting but when I walked in the door of my home all the lights were off. Finally I hear my MIL's voice say 'hello?' and I realize she is sitting in the dark in my living room by herself. I turn the lights on and see that my living room furniture has been rearranged and she explains that she moved it all so she could easily look out the window but I could move it back if I wanted. Thank you for your permission MIL. WTF?

so hard this morning. It’s also weird to

I’ve had so many awkward moments (she’s a mother of three boys so boundaries
are not even a thing). The one that sticks out is from two weeks ago when they were
in town. My husband and I were in our
bedroom having a serious discussion about an insurance claim. MIL walks in, starts making my bed and arguing
my husband’s side of the discussion. I
stopped, looked at her and said, “Are you seriously making my bed right now?”
She said, “I’m standing here, I might as well be doing something.” It was the last straw from a very long
weekend.
@businesswife I love the getting to know you question. Thanks for taking over the weekly thread
@laurad75 thinking of you for your scan today! That is

GTKY: What is the funniest or most awkward IL moment you have had? Or from your own parents, if they are awkward enough? (Sorry this is so long!!)
I thankfully haven't had too many awkward moments. One that stands out (and still pisses me off) is I was cooking brunch on a holiday- I think it was Thanksgiving and my IL's had shown up and they were whispering by the front door acting all weird. I come out to say hi and my son is in a rickety old walker (the kind with the seats) literally from like 30+ years ago all rusted and not safe at all. I just about lost my mind. Thankfully it was way too big for him and they were like oh I guess it's a little big and took him out.
I had previously had my husband tell his Mom that we don't want one of those walkers, she had mentioned it before and he had told her they were not safe and not good for his development and we don't want him to have one. Well somehow she was like obsessed with having him sit in one. No idea why??? I still don't get it because they basically did that to piss me off because they knew how I felt. My husband spoke to her again thankfully he had my back lol. But that happened months ago and I haven't seen that thing since and we have never spoken about it. Thank goodness.
Not the exact one but it looked like this....

again to make sure everything is a-ok.
How're you feeling this week? So much
better, Saturday I was still a bum but Sunday I we were able to make a Costco

GTKY: I’m going to go with a sister-in-law
moment. DW had posted a vent on social
media to the effect of how in the world do people afford day care. SIL put a passive aggressive comment out
there that oh what family isn’t good enough for you. This turned into a crazy phone call where she
said we had discussed her babysitting and she was going to take care of the
baby. This never happened. She has nannied professionally before and
though we thought of it we know we cannot afford what would be a fair price for
a private nanny and didn’t think it would be in good taste to even ask. She’s also very opinionated and tends to
throw hissy fits and be unreliable so I didn’t think the relationship could be
long term professional. Anyways SIL has
been giving DW the cold shoulder for weeks now.
To the point where the whole family went to brunch this weekend and MIL
gave DW a hard time because we weren’t there and I guess SIL “forgot” to invite
us. It’s just all so childish. I think we missed a major bullet on this
one. I couldn’t imagine trying to go to
work and have her pull out in a hissy fit and trying to find last minute
options on the fly. I just kind of think its all ridiculous but I feel bad because DW is really hurt by this kind of behavior.

@chicandbubbly. OMG
that walker is very retro chic. You know
I think our parents had their kids live in walkers like those! Unless it was a photo-op only to do a recreation of a picture from DH's childhood I would want that thing out of my house asap too!

UGH sorry venting but I am so annoyed right now. My hospital literally charged me $1,077 for my first trimester screen ultrasound. I have to pay 533.76 of that because insurance only covered around half. I feel like that is insane for one ultrasound??? I do have a high deductible, it sucks!

How far along? 25weeks Appts this coming week? I am at my glucose test right now, just waiting. How're you feeling this week? Still feel fine! GTKY: What is the funniest or most awkward IL moment you have had? Or from your own parents, if they are awkward enough? I wasn't even there for it, but while I was in labor with my first, my mom started fighting with all of my in laws while in the waiting room. My mom is kind of a spaz and was nervous because I was in labor and pushing for so long and hadn't got a c section yet (27ish hours of labor, 3 of pushing). I guess my in laws made the mistake of trying to calm her down, which in turn sent her into a frenzy. Let's just say I am glad I wasn't allowing visitors while I was in labor.

@irisheyes81 My MIL has definitely done stuff like that before, or covered up her snooping by saying she was cleaning... And sadly I feel you on the constipation. I've been eating prunes which seems to help but then I was on a business trip last week without my prunes and got backed back up.
@2momshoping Yikes, sounds like you dodged a bullet with child care on that one!

GTKY: The first time I ever met her, when my now husband and I were first dating, my MIL gave me a highly detailed rundown on how my FIL cheated on her 15 years before (which ended their marriage) followed at the very same lunch by a graphic description of her three episiotomies. It was crazy.
Lurking @chicandbubbly vent away insurance sux especially till u get through ur deductible and I pay over $1200 a month so im there with u on frustration. They tell u you're covered and say it's a copay and then sends u the rest of the bill in the mail. Even regular US at the same visit with the same tech charged me 2x the amount for different imaging. They get you coming and going.
if you're getting an echo done for the baby you should ask prior about the pricing so your aware IF u need it. I got 3 separate bills for the one test. One for the tech, one for the dr reading the results and one for the equipment used on top of the copays. We make it this far and have been through so much what's another few hundred dollars but it's still annoying for sure!!!

@adirat wow! I take it she likes to overshare? @chicandbubbly that really does seem high for an u/s... my deductible is pretty high, and my clinic charges for everything after delivery. They give an out of pocket estimate up front, but still.
How far along? 14+5 Appts this coming week? Nope How're you feeling this week? Cautiously good, since it’s my spring break and we’re on vacation. However, the MS seems to be hanging on, which makes getting up for early morning hikes super unappealing...
GTKY: What is the funniest or most awkward IL moment you have had? Or from your own parents, if they are awkward enough? Ah, this one is all my side of the family, sadly. After I moved away to college, my dad called to give me “the talk” complete with details. Awkward. A week later, my Aunt calls to say how embarrassing that must have been to have the talk from my dad, then give me her top horror stories from her time as an OB nurse. Double awkward. A week later, I’m complaining to a friend, and she asks if it would be weird if she called my family to ask questions since her parents refused to talk about it with her. A week later, my cousin calls to say how awkward it must have been to get the talk from my dad and my aunt, then shared her favorite techniques. At this point, I stopped answering my phone...
@chicandbubbly is there anyway to up your insurance plan before baby? That seems like a lot of money! How much will delivery cost?
How far along: 15 weeks 3 days No appointments this week!
Feeling much better this week.
The most ridiculous thing my sister in law did was cry at Thanksgiving cause her potatoes weren't crispy enough. She's 39 and didn't even cook any of the meal.
Hi friends! 19 weeks, 2 days Saw my OB today - everything’s good. Guess I’m RH negative. He asked if I wanted to keep coming every 2 weeks and of course I’m like yes please- haha. I find it reassuring. Also I have another AS this time w/ the MFM on Friday. Excessive I know but if they’re going to keep scheduling, I’m going to keep on keeping on.
My in-laws stories are def not as funny but they are super annoying at times. This yr after months of asking if BIL & SIL wanted to come to my mom’s house for Xmas dinner (like the past few yrs) they declined. Then 12/23 my SIL called and said they decided they wanted to come after all and it would be 6 of them (my nieces and her parents). I ran to the store to get additional ingredients, we scrambled for chairs and then only 4 showed up. Setting boundaries for next year for sure!!!

Happy Tuesday all! This will be my last post on the 2nd tri board which makes me a little sad! I feel like this pregnancy has flown by so far (I have a feeling that'll change when it gets hot, humid and I am miserable in the last 1-2 months).
@laurad75 how did the follow up scan go?? Hopefully it put your mind at ease a little bit more. That is just kind of creepy about your MIL sitting in the dark after rearranging your furniture!
@irisheyes81 omg I would die if my MIL walked into my bedroom! I don't think when she has been over we even let them into our bedroom and keep the door closed.
@chicandbubbly that thing looks like a death trap! That's insane that the first trimester screening ultrasound was that much! Insurance is so ridiculous! For as much as I complain about my insurance and all it's issues (seriously, it's taken a WEEK to get my thyroid blood results!) I haven't had to pay anything out of pocket during this pregnancy, not even for the echocardiogram, which I was totally expecting to have to pay SOMETHING.
@2momshoping glad you are feeling better! your SIL sounds ridiculous! I agree, I think you dodged a major bullet there!
@halfanewt wow. Just wow. Talk about awkward! I think my "talk" consisted of my mom telling me before going to my boyfriend's cabin to "not do anything that will ruin the rest of my life, if you know what I mean". Yup, that's about it!
How far along? 27weeks 6 days today! I can't believe I'll be 7 months tomorrow! Appts this coming week? Have a growth scan u/s this afternoon and can't wait to see the little lady bug! I'm hoping everything looks okay. I'll have one more u/s around 32 weeks to make sure the placenta is growing and not inhibiting the baby's growth. Also have our hospital tour on Sunday. How're you feeling this week? Feeling pretty good! Sleep is still hit or miss. Had really bad heartburn the other night and got about 2 hours of sleep. This baby is getting stronger and is rolling all over the place in there which is still so weird to feel. DH and I will often just sit on the couch at night and watch her move around GTKY: What is the funniest or most awkward IL moment you have had? Or from your own parents, if they are awkward enough? Oh man, there are so many to choose from! Lets see, there's the time my MIL emailed my DH a week before our wedding and asked if he was really sure he wanted to get married in a Catholic Church, or when she cried (not in a good/happy tears way) throughout the majority of our wedding or talked through half of the ceremony to the point where people were asking my parents who the "rude person" was. Or when we were barely engaged and took her out for mothers day, she leaned over and grabbed my hand and asked me "Are you ready to be a mommy?" and then asked what religion our future children would be raised. Umm...how about we get married first. She also asked my mother if I've always been on the quiet/reserved side. I don't talk much around my IL b/c I don't trust myself to not go off or say something inappropriate. I think the most uncomfortable thing was at my Brother in law's wedding, I only knew my ILs and my DH was in the wedding party. I ended up sitting in a pew all by myself with my ILs in front of me b/c that's where I was told to sit. Talk about feeling like the black sheep at the wedding. Nothing beats getting the bird book though!!
@mtpbadger Thank you for asking. Yesterday's scan went really well. We also got the amnio results while we were there and everything came back negative which is a huge relief. There is literally no more genetic testing left to do for this child. The scan showed that the left kidney is working just fine and I have plenty of amniotic fluid which is evidence of a healthy kidney. The doctor we saw yesterday saw something on the baby's bladder that he think is a ureterocele which could be the reason for the MCDK in the first place. It's a blockage of one of the ureter tubes that would have cut of fluid to the right kidney so I guess the right kidney wasn't being utilized and peaced out (I'm paraphrasing). They will continue to keep an eye on the whole situation but I don't have to have another scan for about 6 weeks.
All of these awkward IL stories make me feel so much better about my IL's. Why are people so weird?!

@adirat I can't wait for my baby shower in two weeks - my MIL has already made comments that me and DH are somewhat involved (I mean, how else are my friends throwing it going to get contact information for my relatives, etc.) She said that back in her day, the parents to be weren't involved and it was something very informal at someone's house, but what does she know anymore. She needs to learn that if she doesn't have anything nice to say to keep her mouth shut. She's very passive aggressive and I am going to do my best to avoid her and focus on other people at the shower.
*waves* So great to read all your posts and comments! I've been a little MIA after recovering from an awful cold (@2momshoping, so glad you're recovered from the flu!!), trying to catch up with work, and getting the house ready for the baby and visitors. Nursery is almost all set, our office/new guest room is almost all set, and our room is almost all set. Since the pack n play has been in our room, especially while I was sick, any tips on cleaning it? Lysol? Soap/water?
How far along? 26w2d Appts this coming week? OB follow-up later today How're you feeling this week? Sleep issues again and I google hip pain while sleeping but nothing comes up that seems relevant. Maybe I just need more pillows between my legs? My hips and thighs hurt mostly and DH will massage my calf muscles if I ask, but they're not charley horses. (Ugh, I've gotten them before and only once so far during this pregnancy *knock on wood*) Also the emotional ups and downs crack me up. I was bawling two weeks ago for something that I would've normally taken care of myself but apparently I needed DH to help me through my stomach pains, and then two nights ago, he got snippy with me (he says he wasn't being snippy or mean) and I know it was late and we were both tired and I just couldn't help but cry because he's usually so patient with me but I felt like he gave me a mean look/reaction. Then I had to leave the bedroom to cry it out but when I got back, I couldn't fall asleep and kept crying. I tried to stop crying multiple times and I just couldn't. He ended up making me laugh and that helped. I'm working on being more open with communication, as per my therapist, instead of avoiding confrontation. GTKY: What is the funniest or most awkward IL moment you have had? Or from your own parents, if they are awkward enough? Oh dear, everyone is awkward. The most recent one is in the spoiler:
LOL My parents are awkward and DH's parents are awkward. His are divorced but get along, and I'm glad all our parents get along when they're together. Sometimes the things my mom does and says drives me nuts! My MiL is very similar to her. However I can yell at my mom (like seriously, that doesn't need to be posted on fb, Mom) but I don't feel comfortable yelling at my MiL. Anyways, the worst awkward story with my MiL was from our wedding but I think I'm still traumatized by that so let's stick to a good holiday story:
We traveled and celebrated Christmas with his family. On the first evening that his older brother was there, they were drinking a lot. My MiL proceeded to drink more than she should and got in a shouting argument with my older BiL over something stupid when they were kids. DH wasn't being any help and younger BiL was agreeing with older BiL. Their dad wasn't any help either and MiL's husband was basically like, you got yourself in this stupid disagreement. Well, then she turns to me and tries to give me advice by saying something to the effect of "do you know what you should do when you're a mom in my situation?", and I looked up at her and suggested, "Stop drinking?" SMH. She kept arguing with them and ended up crying. It was awkward, especially with my younger BiL's new gf in attendance. MiL's husband had her sleep it off. If she hadn't gotten drunk, she would've been able to put her sons in place or at least not end up bawling in front of her youngest son's new gf. Her younger brother was an alcoholic, she has a couple drinks every night, and DH and I wish she didn't drink so much. Oh well -- they're all adults so they can take care of themselves.
Our big co-ed shower that my parents are hosting will be in 3.5 weeks and DH's parents will be visiting, so this should be interesting! I've already scheduled a therapy appointment for the Tuesday after that shower and plan to schedule a prenatal massage after DH's parents leave. LOL They're all very nice people but it can get stressful. I do wish I had a better relationship with my MiL, but like I said, she reminds me too much of my mom who drives me nuts.
@laurad75 Sounds like a great scan! They found a reason and the baby has a great kidney and nothing weird on the amnio. Woohoo
@mtpbadger I'm so sad you are leaving the second tri board. That is so sad. Time sure is flying.
@chicaandbubbly that completely sucks. We got a $1200 bill for blood work. not even the genetic blood work but that first one where they test you for STDs or whatever. It was a mistake because the lab put the wrong code on there. I realized how insanely expensive everything is. Hopefully you meet your deductible soon.
Everyone's stories are hilarious about their in laws. Thanks for all the advice about constipation. @2MomsHoping I take Metamucil every night. It tastes terrible and doesn't do anything. I don't even know why I'm still taking it. I thought I had a yeast infection at the last OB check so I forgot to ask about it.

Hey guys, sorry it's taken a bit to check in. I wanted to wait until after our a/s yesterday.
How far along? 19w5d Appts this coming week? Had our anatomy scan yesterday and everything looked great! Baby girl was lying on her stomach so we got exactly zero good shots of her profile and our tech didn't bother looking for any cute pictures of feet or hands, she just did her job for the doctor and printed us out a mess of barely (and sometimes completely impossible to recognize) pictures. The ones she got of her head/face make her look like Coraline or the dead children from The Corpse Bride LOL. They did find one minor issue, which is a "choroid plexus cyst" in her brain. The doctor said it's a "soft marker" for a genetic issue (usually Trisomy 18) but that because I'd already had my NIPT and it came back 1 in 10,000 chance, and because no other "soft markers" existed on the scan, he's not worried and I shouldn't be either. He clearly doesn't know I'm an anxiety bear. I wanted to tell him to stick it in his ear. Do I NEED to hear this if these cysts usually resolve on their own and if they're not even considered a brain deformity? Just a quick scan of Wikipedia tells me there is a theory that this is a normal part of fetal brain development and most of them resolve themselves, and that many adults likely have one or more small CPCs. Thanks for the trip down nightmare lane anyway, dude. How're you feeling this week? Pretty good! I started feeling her move at exactly 19 weeks and she's had moments of extreme activity and plenty of down time. Doc says it's way too early to start worrying if I don't feel her move for a day or more because she's so tiny, and definitely not the time to start counting kicks. It's even more fun than I thought it would be, finally knowing she's in there! GTKY: What is the funniest or most awkward IL moment you have had? Or from your own parents, if they are awkward enough? I don't have a lot of 'fun' with my MIL and FIL, but two of the most awkward were 1) when I first met them in 2015, I knew they were very, very Republican (I am very, very NOT) and we were all in the same car going somewhere and they were talking about how much they liked Donald Trump (ugh), and MIL turned to me and said "we know you're a Democrat but we like you anyway." 2) During the height of the #MeToo movement, MIL and DH got into a heated discussion about whether there really is as much sexual harassment and assault as was being portrayed on TV and social media (ILs exclusively watch Fox News) and MIL stopped the argument, looked at me and said "well, have YOU ever experienced that?!?" and I just looked at her and said "yes." She shut right up. Le sigh.
@chicandbubbly insurance is the worst! Between the IVFs and now the pregnancy I
still feel like I’m on the phone at least monthly with them. Do you have a HSA savings account that you
can pay your deductible out of? I have a
high deductible plan too and the planning with the HSA has made things less
painful when those bills come in, and the money rolls over from year to year so
its not like you loose it like with a FSA.
@cseley312…3 hours of pushing. I think I just went pale.
@businesswife I think it’s so odd when people mention losses
at a pregnancy announcement. Just the
other day a friend said to me they aren’t going to get too excited until I hit
25 weeks. C’mon. I mean I think we all know too well bad
things can happen but can’t we just cross that bridge when and if it happens
and not before?
@adirat. Wow your MIL
totally wins the overshare award. What
in the world could you say to something like that?!?!
@halfanewt lololololol to all of those “talks” I remember in
3rd grade my school forced us to take our sex-ed final exam together
as a family. My parents do not talk
about that sort of thing but they went through the questions as clinically and
quickly as possible. It may have been
the most traumatic memory from my childhood.
Note to self I probably need to plan better for the “talk” for my
child. I’ll have to add that to my list..lol
@lablover78 I would be so angry! Preparing a meal for a big group is so much
work and all that extra running around, and then have some be a no show. Unless they were sick or someone died I would
be pretty peeved.
@mtbadger I’m so sad to have you leave us in the 2nd
trimester board but I look forward to joining you in another month and a
bit. See you soon friend! I hope your hospital tour goes well, I haven’t
signed up for mine yet. You ILs are too
funny. Sounds like you take the crazy in
stride though. For the baby shower thing
I think it is so different from family to family. When I was a kid I was always dragged to all
the baby showers and they were always this big deal at a banquet hall on my dad’s
side. On my mom’s side it was always
just a small little thing at someone’s house.
It doesn’t matter it’s just a way to celebrate and give a little something
for the new little one. People drive me
crazy when they think something isn’t being done the *right* way.
@laurad75 yay for getting though all your genetic testing
and good news on that the one kidney is working just fine. I’m so happy and hope things continue to go
well and the right kidney ends up being no big deal.
@jr102217 glad you are feeling better too! Sounds like those hormones are getting to
you. Don’t worry I think we all have
those moments. OMG I love that you told
your MIL to stop drinking. So true and
also so hilarious!

@sarcasticowl your awkward IL moments made me laugh out loud. Fox news. Come on. They still like you! Ha! My friend that just had her baby last month had that exact same cyst thing. They scanned her again and the cyst's were gone. The baby is perfectly normal. Apparently it's SUPER common and nothing to be worried about. Especially with genetic testing. Aren't those front facing pictures on the ultrasound terrifying? The ultrasound tech was like, "Isn't she cute!" I was like, um, is it supposed to look that scary?

@irisheyes Thank you so much for letting me know about your friend. Every time I hear they resolve themselves, I feel a lot better! And yes, horrifying photo. I told DH she looks like these kids: He was not amused.
Well, growth scan didn’t go as I had hoped. After the U/S I was told my OB wanted to talk to me, which I knew wasn’t going to be good. Thankfully DH was at the appt. basically the ratio between the head and abdomen size is way too low, which can be an indication of placental issues/compromised growth. I knew that there was a slight chance for issues with the placenta from my first tri blood work (borderline low Papp A) but didn’t think it was too much of a concern. Now I’m glad that came back borderline low since that was the reason for this growth scan, otherwise I would have been done with ultrasounds.
Have an appt with the MFM tomorrow (my OB wanted me in as soon as possible) to do a Doppler US to check blood flow to placenta and she said I may need weekly or twice weekly monitoring depending on what the outcome of tomorrow is. I’m glad my dr is being cautious but it still freaks me out and I’m a mess and worried about taking even more time off work and using leave before little one gets here but I’d rather make sure she is okay. Part of me is hoping today’s measurements were just a little off. My OB did say baby always measured with a slightly big head and slightly small abdomen but the percentage really fell with this scan which is cause for concern. Or t could just be genetics and baby will be skinny.
Ill keep you all updated tomorrow!! Hope you don’t mind me staying around a little bit longer even though I’ll be out of the second tri!
@mtpbadger I'm sorry to hear the news wasn't as you had hoped but maybe this is just a skinny baby? Good luck tomorrow and yes, please let us know what the MFM says! Thinking about you.
WOW! I have a lot to catch up on! @sarcasticowl sorry about the unnecessary anxiety- my son had choroid plexus cysts early on and they eventually disappeared, hopefully your next ultrasound they will be gone and your worry with it! @mtpbadger hoping everything is ok and baby is just a little one-keep us updated!

Thanks ladies! Appt went okay- not great news but not horrible news. Baby girl is measuring small (<10th percentile) but she has always been on the smaller side, so it’s not like she went from 90% to this, she was always in the bottom quarter but head is right on track which the MFM said is a good thing. Placenta and umbilical cord look good with function and blood flow which they were most concerned about. I’ll go for weekly appointments for the foreseeable future - weekly Doppler for placenta function and then every other week get a growth scan as well. She has late afternoon appointments so I’ll only have to sneak out of work about 10 min early to get there which isn’t too shabby! I’ll just go in early those days. If either of those start to decline it can be a serious complication and I would have to deliver early with most likely a c-section but we’ll cross that bridge if/when we need too. Baby weighs about 2.2 pounds which she said is pretty good and she’s grown in the past 3-4 weeks so that’s a good sign as well. She most likely will just be a smaller baby (every baby in my family has been around 5-6 pounds so that’s not too surprising to hear)
MFM didn’t seem too worried which is reassuring and it’s the same one I saw for the amniotic band so it was nice that she’s familiar with us already. Have to cut back on the swimming which I’m super bummed about but can stil do water walking or VERY easy laps or just regular walking. Thankfully she doesn’t have any issues with me going to NYC next weekend with girlfriends and said as long as I stay hydrated, walking all over the city will be fine.
I told DH we should be prepared for an early delivery, just in case, so I guess it’s time to start getting out butts in gear!
How far along? 14 weeks + 4 Appts this coming week? None How're you feeling this week? Pretty good! I started telling friends and coworkers/boss the news. It's making it seem a little bit more real.
I've been struggling with constipation as well, but I think I might have figured it out. 2 doses of Metamucil per day plus All Bran buds cereal, which pretty much looks like cat food pellets but taste much better, I can only assume. I sprinkle it into my regular cereal. The All Bran, not the cat food.
GTKY: What is the funniest or most awkward IL moment you have had? Or from your own parents, if they are awkward enough? DH and I have a guest room and separate bathroom downstairs, and our bedroom is upstairs. My ILs visited last summer and never closed the sliding bathroom door! I guess because they were on another floor? Once, when we were getting ready to leave the house, I had to pop in the downstairs bath to grab something (I usually use this bathroom). I walked right in on my MIL on the toilet-- thankfully there's a half wall there blocking it from view. I screamed, she laughed. Honestly... close the door!

WTF?

How're you feeling this week? Great! The baby kicked so hard this morning. It’s also weird to turn from side to side at night because it feels like her whole body moves. I’m loving it. Little heartburn but tums does the trick. Still constipated. Boo.
GTKY: What is the funniest or most awkward IL moment you have had? Or from your own parents, if they are awkward enough? I’ve had so many awkward moments (she’s a mother of three boys so boundaries are not even a thing). The one that sticks out is from two weeks ago when they were in town. My husband and I were in our bedroom having a serious discussion about an insurance claim. MIL walks in, starts making my bed and arguing my husband’s side of the discussion. I stopped, looked at her and said, “Are you seriously making my bed right now?” She said, “I’m standing here, I might as well be doing something.” It was the last straw from a very long weekend.
@businesswife I love the getting to know you question. Thanks for taking over the weekly thread

How're you feeling this week? Feeling much better! Hopefully the morning sickness is done. Have more energy too!
How far along? 22w +1d omg time is flying
Appts this coming week? I have my follow-up anatomy scan this Friday. After the whole flu debacle I’m pretty excited to see the little one again to make sure everything is a-ok.
How're you feeling this week? So much better, Saturday I was still a bum but Sunday I we were able to make a Costco run and even work on putting together some of the baby furniture.
GTKY: I’m going to go with a sister-in-law moment. DW had posted a vent on social media to the effect of how in the world do people afford day care. SIL put a passive aggressive comment out there that oh what family isn’t good enough for you. This turned into a crazy phone call where she said we had discussed her babysitting and she was going to take care of the baby. This never happened. She has nannied professionally before and though we thought of it we know we cannot afford what would be a fair price for a private nanny and didn’t think it would be in good taste to even ask. She’s also very opinionated and tends to throw hissy fits and be unreliable so I didn’t think the relationship could be long term professional. Anyways SIL has been giving DW the cold shoulder for weeks now. To the point where the whole family went to brunch this weekend and MIL gave DW a hard time because we weren’t there and I guess SIL “forgot” to invite us. It’s just all so childish. I think we missed a major bullet on this one. I couldn’t imagine trying to go to work and have her pull out in a hissy fit and trying to find last minute options on the fly. I just kind of think its all ridiculous but I feel bad because DW is really hurt by this kind of behavior.

@laurad75 who sits in the dark at someone’s house AND moves their furniture?!?! So weird. You just have to wonder what some people are thinking sometimes.
@irisheyes81 I don’t think either of my parents are allowed in my bedroom that’s just a no go zone for me. I’d be like step-off lady. P.S. have you tried a Citrucel/Metamucil type things for the constipation? I’ve been living on fruit but have bought some this weekend for some reason I’m a little scared to try it.
@chicandbubbly. OMG that walker is very retro chic. You know I think our parents had their kids live in walkers like those! Unless it was a photo-op only to do a recreation of a picture from DH's childhood I would want that thing out of my house asap too!

Appts this coming week?

My ILs are all pretty great. When I called my mom tho from MILs to tell them both at 7 weeks, the first thing my mom said to me was to warn me about not poisoning the child by giving them home made baby food under 3 months. *typo

@irisheyes81 My MIL has definitely done stuff like that before, or covered up her snooping by saying she was cleaning... And sadly I feel you on the constipation. I've been eating prunes which seems to help but then I was on a business trip last week without my prunes and got backed back up.

@chicandbubbly vent away insurance sux especially till u get through ur deductible and I pay over $1200 a month so im there with u on frustration. They tell u you're covered and say it's a copay and then sends u the rest of the bill in the mail. Even regular US at the same
visit with the same tech charged me 2x the amount for different imaging.

How're you feeling this week?
How far along: 15 weeks 3 days

Feeling much better this week.
The most ridiculous thing my sister in law did was cry at Thanksgiving cause her potatoes weren't crispy enough. She's 39 and didn't even cook any of the meal.
19 weeks, 2 days
Saw my OB today - everything’s good.

DH and I will often just sit on the couch at night and watch her move around
GTKY: What is the funniest or most awkward IL moment you have had? Or from your own parents, if they are awkward enough?
All of these awkward IL stories make me feel so much better about my IL's. Why are people so weird?!

@mtpbadger Wow, already third tri! Your IL stories were so awkward. I'm sorry they treated you that way.
How far along? 26w2d
Appts this coming week? OB follow-up later today
How're you feeling this week? Sleep issues again and I google hip pain while sleeping but nothing comes up that seems relevant. Maybe I just need more pillows between my legs? My hips and thighs hurt mostly and DH will massage my calf muscles if I ask, but they're not charley horses. (Ugh, I've gotten them before and only once so far during this pregnancy *knock on wood*)
Also the emotional ups and downs crack me up.

Appts this coming week?
Between the IVFs and now the pregnancy I still feel like I’m on the phone at least monthly with them. Do you have a HSA savings account that you can pay your deductible out of? I have a high deductible plan too and the planning with the HSA has made things less painful when those bills come in, and the money rolls over from year to year so its not like you loose it like with a FSA.
@cseley312…3 hours of pushing. I think I just went pale.
@businesswife I think it’s so odd when people mention losses at a pregnancy announcement. Just the other day a friend said to me they aren’t going to get too excited until I hit 25 weeks. C’mon. I mean I think we all know too well bad things can happen but can’t we just cross that bridge when and if it happens and not before?
@adirat. Wow your MIL totally wins the overshare award. What in the world could you say to something like that?!?!
@halfanewt lololololol to all of those “talks” I remember in 3rd grade my school forced us to take our sex-ed final exam together as a family. My parents do not talk about that sort of thing but they went through the questions as clinically and quickly as possible. It may have been the most traumatic memory from my childhood. Note to self I probably need to plan better for the “talk” for my child. I’ll have to add that to my list..lol
@marimarii so happy you are feeling better!
@lablover78 I would be so angry! Preparing a meal for a big group is so much work and all that extra running around, and then have some be a no show. Unless they were sick or someone died I would be pretty peeved.
@mtbadger I’m so sad to have you leave us in the 2nd trimester board but I look forward to joining you in another month and a bit. See you soon friend! I hope your hospital tour goes well, I haven’t signed up for mine yet. You ILs are too funny. Sounds like you take the crazy in stride though. For the baby shower thing I think it is so different from family to family. When I was a kid I was always dragged to all the baby showers and they were always this big deal at a banquet hall on my dad’s side. On my mom’s side it was always just a small little thing at someone’s house. It doesn’t matter it’s just a way to celebrate and give a little something for the new little one. People drive me crazy when they think something isn’t being done the *right* way.
@laurad75 yay for getting though all your genetic testing and good news on that the one kidney is working just fine. I’m so happy and hope things continue to go well and the right kidney ends up being no big deal.
@jr102217 glad you are feeling better too! Sounds like those hormones are getting to you. Don’t worry I think we all have those moments. OMG I love that you told your MIL to stop drinking. So true and also so hilarious!

He was not amused.
No Folic acid/pharmaceuticals/supplements (too many to list- private message me if interested), IVIL infusion
@mtbadger please stick around and keep us updated. How incredibly scary I’m so happy you weren’t alone for the scan. Don’t worry about taking more time off I know we all want time with our babies after they are born but it’s most important to get the care you need right now all that other stuff will figure itself out later. I hope your Doppler tomorrow goes well and things all work out ok. I’ll be sending lots of good vibes you way. (Hugs).

14 weeks + 4
Appts this coming week? None
How're you feeling this week? Pretty good!
