I can't stand Joanna and Chip Gains. I think it's more the way that the show is portraying them, that she's like the patient martyr that puts up with her doofus of a husband but it just comes off as disingenuous to me. I like the designs that they do (most of the time) but it's just another design show, nothing extraordinary or spectacular.
I also don't find the Property Brothers attractive. Their faces don't move, it kind of creeps me out.
@mrsbubbles-2 But you like Flip or Flop right? And were devastated when Tarek and Christina split, right??
AFM, I think it's weird at this point in any BMB for people to come out of lurkdom and become an active participant. It seems really strange to me. I mean, have you just been reading all of our threads and opinions and disagreements and personal stories (both negative and positive) for months and now you want to join in? I know this is public and anyone at all can read it, it's just a wee bit creepy to me.
I should say, though, that I don't think this is the same thing as someone brand new joining. That's totally cool, welcome welcome. But if you've been just been reading everything, for months, without saying a word....that's weird.
I'm more annoyed than I should be that I have NO GIFs this morning - wtf work?!? They can't block ads but all the gifs are just little squares with Xs in them. Sad face.
@ecwk - LOVE Flip or Flop - DH came in one day and was like we need to talk... your Flip Flop couple are breaking up. I was so sad.
@calimom2524 - Taylor Swift is amazing. I love her music and I have the worst case of hair envy ever.
@mrsbubbles-2 I think I like Chip and Joanna more than I like her designs. But that's probably because DH has a tendency to be goofy and I could see him being like Chip and me just putting up with it because that's who he is. I don't really love the Property Brothers, but DH HATES them. Mostly because that one brother wears designer jeans all the time and it's obvious he's too pretty to do any of the real construction work.
I love the show called Making It Right. With Mike Holmes. He had another show before which I loved, too. Being a home builder, I hate crappy contractors, so I love this show trying to make things right with people who’ve blown all their money with a scammer.
I just can’t get into The Office! I’ve binged Parks and Rec so many times and love it, but I’m about four or five episodes into The Office and it’s not doing much for me. I love Steve Carrell in other things. And I adore Mindy Kaling! But I’m just not feeling it yet. Maybe I’ll give it a few more episodes..
I'm not sure if this is an UO or just a rant, but here it is. I hate that no one is making sure STUDENT - Athletes have their grades above a 70%. No one cares if its a D, just as long as its not an F. So these kids are being let out of classes that they are failing/this close || to failing to go play a sport that they should be eligible to play because they are/as good as failing.
I just pulled my teams grades. out of 6 classes per girl X 16 girls we have over 15 grades below a 70%. This teacher is very unimpressed right now.

@calimom2524 DH really wants to go see her in Dallas in October but I can't muster up the enthusiasm to do a road trip (3.5 hours away) concert at 2 months PP, I would rather just fly to see her somewhere else when baby is a little older/ I am no longer BFing.

@princesslockness - that's unbelievable.I'm so sorry you're dealing with that. As both a teacher and a parent you obviously want what's best for your team. Can you set grade standards for the team to play or is it set by the district?
While I'm ranting about TV shows I can go ahead and pick on the singing competitions too. Haven't we discovered all the singing talent in the US by now? I thought that American Idol had run its course, I'm not going to watch version 2.0. The Voice is acceptable because Adam Levine is dreamy and Blake Shelton is hilarious.
Oh, and I have some VERY strong opinions about Roseanne Barr but I'll just say that that's another TV show I can't believe they brought back.
I’m SO glad I’m not the only Taylor fan here! Usually I’m the lone wolf trying to defend her haha. DH and I became fans when we started dating (right before Fearless came out) and have gone to I think 3 of her concerts together. DS is now obsessed with “look what you made me do” and asks to hear it whenever we are in target, randomly

Tieks are adorable, and I'd love to try a pair just for something different. So I went to go look at their site. $170+ for a pair of basic ballet flat type shoes?! That is two weeks worth of groceries, or more if I can stretch it...or half of the medical bills I just paid this morning. I can't even.
I felt like a shoe snob when I paid $50 sale price for a new pair of my favorite brand of flip-flop. I literally wear them every day of the week...rain, sun, or snow. I don't know how people wear those cheap $3 pair of flip-flops from Walmart where the tabs that hold the straps through the sole poke your feet.
@mrs_drc_rn same! Obviously I love Parks and Rec, but I don't love 'The Office' the same way. I like some episodes and there are some funny moments. But I don't feel the same way I felt about other NBC comedies.

No flames from me @neeraja_k. I understand the sticker shock for most people.
For me, I will pay money for a product that is high quality. In my last position I was on my feet 8 hours a day walking around a 2 mile long resort and I had to be dressed professionally so to have found a flat that lasted, didn't smell, and was comfortable was worth the price tag for me. I would buy target flats over and over and over, toss them, and buy again when they got too stinky or gross. I haven't had to toss a single pair of Tieks for being too worn or gross and I've had them for years. However I've also spent money and own 2 LV's so I obviously don't have a problem with paying more money for a name brand. I don't judge anyone who refuses because of the price tag nor do I judge those who have every single pair of Tieks ever made.
@mrsbubbles-2 The minimium is set by the district, but I can make stricter rules for my teams. I just can't get the head (varsity) coach to agree to a contract for them to sign saying they won't have any grades below a 70 on game days.

@ecwk I look at kind of the same way. I guess if I lurked for say 20 weeks and read all the posts and saw how everyone is kinda getting to really know each other in a way I would never just jump right in. But I am kinda awkward and shy IRL. Unless I have some drinks in me. Then yikes I will talk to anyone.
I kinda feel the same way about the price of teiks. But man do I want them! I am starting to feel like wait a minute DH spends like $200 on his work boots so why can't I? Also I totally agree that you get what you pay for. If I would just suck it and pay for good things I would need to buy so many cheap ones.
I was sad when T Swift went pop. But my baby girl (the five year old) is going to see her in concert with her two Aunts in June. She is so excited and loves to sing the "I don't like your little games" and "shake it off"
I guess that could be my UO. It doesn't bother me to let my child go to a concert, with proper ear protection of course! This was a huge fight with my Dad when he found out.

@legallykate +1 for needing a grocery shopping lesson! I shop weekly and it's easily 100-150 for me, DH and DD. It was significantly higher when DD was still drinking formula but thankfully she's switched over to whole milk now.
@mrs_drc_rn, @Firemanswife11 hahaaa those are my guilty pleasure shows. Or they were, before I had a kid!
@neeraja_k I don't think that's flame worthy at all. Different people have different budgets for different things. I don't think it's fair to judge anyone for what they choose or don't choose to spend their money on. Unless its that thousand dollar Dior newborn outfit I posted yesterday. Idc how much money you have, that's obscene.
I feel like I'm gonna get really flamed for this one...I have a really hard time believing the random people who post TW threads (ultrasounds and stuff). They've never contributed to the board before, so I am really apprehensive about their sincerity. I wonder if they are just trolls trying to get a reaction or sympathy. Maybe that's terrible to say, but there it is.

OH hell, we get out with under $200 a month for H, L, E, and I. The kids also get lots of those cookie cups and fruit snacks.

@neeraja_k I feel the same way about tieks. Although if I felt like I could afford them, maybe I would feel differently! I once bought a $100 pair of dress shoes with the help of multiple gift cards when I was in college, and I felt so guilty afterwards. I liked the shoes... I think I'm just a miser. I overheard a coworker talking about his lack of an emergency fund and his credit card debt yesterday (why you would talk about that at work is another thing entirely) and my eyes just about bugged out of my head. He makes exactly the same amount of money as I do, and I can't imagine not having my pretty healthy emergency fund. (Extraneous circumstances aside, he just poorly manages his money.) My anxiety would be through the roof.
@7425cait I kind of get like that too when random people post stuff like that. After having someone steal DS’s NICU pics from my Instagram and post them as their own, I’ve realized people will do some crazy shit for sympathy!

Grocery prices are going to vary a lot even within 50 miles. For example, I can get milk for like $1 and some change but my mom spends at least $6 on a gallon. We live about 45 minutes from each other.
@mrs_drc_rn Omg - I love Jersey Shore. I feel like I should take a shower just admitting that, but it's seriously one of the only reality shows I've ever watched. I hope this family vacation show is amazing.
@neeraja_k No flames from me. I can't justify spending that much on shoes. I don't spend much on clothes either, honestly. No flames from me to anyone who chooses to.. it's just not for me.
@legallykate Same! We spend about 125$ a week for just H and me on groceries. We don't eat out much though.
@mrsbubbles-2 I've never watched Chip and Joanna but that's because I can already tell they'd just annoy me. Most of those HGTV shows are so fake (or so I feel).
I'll think of a good UO later. All I can come up with are TV show ones...
I live in a pretty inexpensive area overall and I'm sure we could probably get by on much less than we do, but we eat (and waste) a lot of fresh produce. I also buy lots of health and life items (prenatals, shampoo, lotion, paper goods, etc.) at the grocery store, which I'm sure accounts for a lot of our cost. I'm too lazy to make multiple trips for those things at a store like Costco.

I know. We just talked about that with my 8th graders, and how Alsaska is vastly different from say Wyoming. It just surprises me that people spend that much a week when thats our monthly amount. Its just the 'sticker' shock from that.
It can also vary a huge amount by what type of foods you cook, if you buy canned or dried or fresh.

@princesslockness we were in Alaska over the summer and I definitely could not afford to live there. Lol.
I used to be a vegetarian but since I'm not anymore, our grocery bills are a lot higher. Also, I tend to drink a lot of fizzy waters and things like that which make my bill higher. I need to cut back.

I was just having a conversation with my friend about this. Some people are comfortable with the struggle. Me personally I can not stomach it, my anxiety increases if I drop in a specific amount of savings we have. Growing up for the first 11 years with not having my basic needs met, has definitely impacted me as an adult. My husband and I do well for ourselves and I definitely splurge here and there on nice things, but that doesn’t happen with out me putting money in my savings first. There is always this fear that something drastic will happen to our standard of living and I am not ok with that. My family on the other hand have no regards for saving and we definitely do not agree about finances. That is always frustrating because I feel like when they F up financially I have to bail them out.
***Side-note It is ok to treat yourself every once in a while. Within reason of course.

We don't have a monthly meat bill. We fatten a couple steers out, and they pay for themselves when we butcher and sell 2 of the 3. So We are lucky in that, it still just boggles my mind.

I don't judge anyone who refuses because of the price tag nor do I judge those who have every single pair of Tieks ever made.

I'm watching Monday's show at my desk because I am the only one here. Hahaha.
I kinda feel the same way about the price of teiks. But man do I want them! I am starting to feel like wait a minute DH spends like $200 on his work boots so why can't I? Also I totally agree that you get what you pay for. If I would just suck it and pay for good things I would need to buy so many cheap ones.
I guess that could be my UO. It doesn't bother me to let my child go to a concert, with proper ear protection of course! This was a huge fight with my Dad when he found out.

It can also vary a huge amount by what type of foods you cook, if you buy canned or dried or fresh.

I used to be a vegetarian but since I'm not anymore, our grocery bills are a lot higher. Also, I tend to drink a lot of fizzy waters and things like that which make my bill higher. I need to cut back.
***Side-note It is ok to treat yourself every once in a while. Within reason of course.
