I know we have a lot of different hobbies and interests among us! Some hobbies might have taken a back seat during this first trimester or maybe this pregnancy.
What hobbies do you enjoy?
How long have you been doing them?
Anything in particular you enjoy most?
Re: GTKY: Hobbies
Currently I'm really enjoying decorative planners. My planner is my life line, so it's nice to make it look more fun with stickers and fun colors.
I'm also trying to get into cross stitch. I haven't done much since I got pregnant though.
I'm a want to be crafter. I enjoy the creative outlet, but I'm not always good at it
I've tried learning to crochet. I can make single chains.
I find knitting to be easier than crocheting.
I used to play bass guitar and was in a few different bands from 2000 to 2015 or so, but yeah... no time for that anymore. *cue the Debby Downer face*
I’m trying to get into bullet journaling... I am successful maybe every other week.
My more social hobbies are swing dancing and doing macrame on people. I’ve been dancing for about six years, and playing with rope for about three years.
In my free time, I run an adult coloring group, contemplate my basket of unfinished knitting projects, and poke through my bead boxes.
I'm with you ladies on the crafting though! I have a sewing machine I'm learning to use and a cricut and easy press as well. I like working with vinyl and I really want to start making wood signs and decor. I used to crochet but haven't in years. Maybe I'll try it again and make something for the new babe!
@sammierose464 Sometimes I try things and I just known I'm better off leaving that craft alone lol But it's still fun to try!
Otherwise I’m in a sci fi book club and I’m involved in activism and organizing related to my work.
@knottieamusements I enjoy that you call it "macrame on people".
@nmadjeski I am the same way about reading. I listen to a lot of audiobooks while I'm driving now, which seems to be my main way of getting reading in. I've had a book from my favorite author since Feb and it's so good, but I find myself struggling to find the focus and energy to actually read a physical book.
Perfecting the comfort of my bedroom is also a talent I possess, but I consider it a hobby as well.
I also read a lot, but have been pushing myself into audiobooks so I can knit at the same time. I am just way pickier about them because it has to be just the right book for me, and more importantly the right narrator, or it drives me crazy in minutes. Thankful for audible's return feature.
DH and I make it a priority to make at least one international trip per year. In the last 17 months we’ve traveled to Portugal, Morocco, and Spain (for the 2nd time) and visited New Zealand and Australia. We are trying to plan our summer vacation now and are narrowing down our options!
I can crochet but haven't finished any one project in the last 3 years. The baby blanket I made for DD (2.5) still needs the ends finished and sewn in. I am sure Ill start one for this babe. Fingers crossed I can finish it!!
I recently got a fancy camera and I have been on and off teaching myself how to use it. I love taking the photos but I suck at uploading them to my computer. This is my big goal for the next few years. I want to take a photography class but will probably wait until next spring to sign up for anything.
I also love doing seasonal crafts with my toddle. I love baking so we made and decorated sugar cookies for Easter.
I am so jealous of all of you crafters! I love to craft but I am so bad at it and I am not creative at all. I also have very little time right now to try new things because I’m completing my masters degree so that takes up a majority of my free time.
Edited to add: I also used to swing dance for 5 years.
TTC since 2016
Due: October 12, 2018
Location: Ontario, Canada
Not much of a hobby but my favorite thing to do in the summer is to sit by a fire with friends and a radio and just visit, hangout, stare at the stars!
Edit to add I also love to travel and visit family or take mini vacas with DH and hopefully when baby bear gets a bit older we'll be able to keep going!
I did Taekwondo for 17 years (and won 2 World Champion titles) but stopped about 6 years ago after my body clearly told me I needed a break (and I had to pay for grad school haha).
Now I play in a co-ed work volleyball league with DH. Our team, Chewblocka, is terrrrrible but we have so much fun! DH and I go on hikes in Colorado with our dog and go camping 3-4 times each year. I am proud to say I've become quite the cook over a fire! And I believe if my Eagle Scout husband wasn't around, I'd be able to do all the camping things by myself (putting up the tent, starting the fire, etc.) That was definitely not the case when we started dating 7 years ago haha. I also love to bake and am learning how to use fondant to make cool cakes. And like @mamabearcj, I love to scrapbook. I make one book for each year and it's always so fun to turn our year of adventure and life events into 20-30 pages of memories.
I also try to do one big thing each year totally out of my comfort zone. One year I went to Amsterdam, Berlin and Prague with 2 girl friends. It was incredible and I loved it but it was my first trip out of the country. Another year, DH and I agreed to move from PA to CO for work without ever having been to CO lol. It has been amazing here and we are so glad we took the adventure even though it would have been easier to stay where we both grew up. Last year, I ran my first half marathon. I am not a runner by nature; I always finished last in the mile run in school as a kid, I have asthma, bad hips, and am verrrry slow. My personal running slogan? "We'll get there when we get there." lmao. This year's big thing? I'm going to say: having my first baby haha

I also paint and love teaching my painting classes.
Really I'm a homebody so if i can do it in my studio I'm down. I'm also team "binge watching Netflix counts as a hobby"! Lately though my toddler is my biggest hobby--i get really into researching the best balance of developmental friendly toys, thrifting said toys & clothes, perfecting my cloth diaper laundry routine, designing the right flow to their play space, setting up a makeshift homeschool preschool for them, reading parenting articles... Parenting is like my favorite research topic. Dorky, I know, but it's fun for me.
**Also so i don't get flamed I'm waaaaay not a perfect parent. Not even close. My toddler has like constant access to the tv and I spend a lot of time being lazy on the couch... It's all about moderation!
I actually really enjoy going to the gym! I’m a little paranoid about doing my weight training class, Body Pump, because it requires a lot of being on your back so I’ve laid off on that though I miss it! I still do my Zumba classes and I love it! I’m hoping to continue as long as possible.
At home I love to read. My original degree is in English literature and it’s great downtown for me. My husband and I share s car so I take the bus a few times a week and can lots of reading done then. It’s pretty addictive.
I absolutely love to travel! I worked in South Korea for a few years before I got my teaching job here and was able to see a lot of Asia. It was incredible. My husband and I took s trip to Barcelona and England last summer and the timing couldn’t have been better. We now have a baby on the way and a crazy mortgage so big trips will mostly be on hold. I am thinking of cashing in my points for a brief baby moon in July though. Is that too late? I’m due oct 18 but teach up to June 29th. I was thinking three days away to a US city. I haven’t travelled in the States anywhere beyond NYC. Anyone else thinking about a little trip pre baby?
I like crafting but don't ever seem to finish what I start so I don't start things anymore
Shooting handguns at a range with my husband
Watching Tv with my DH
Boring but we love it
