GTKY: Hobbies

I know we have a lot of different hobbies and interests among us! Some hobbies might have taken a back seat during this first trimester or maybe this pregnancy.

What hobbies do you enjoy?
How long have you been doing them?
Anything in particular you enjoy most?

  • @sammierose464 I’m a planner too!  What kind do you use?
  • @quiltandknit currently I use personal size inserts in my filofax. I had an Erin Condren for a while and found I didn't use it as much since it was so big. My filo is also my wallet and it's perfect for on the go.
  • The start and stop factor is one reason I don't cross stitch as soften as I'd like. It's not too bad, but pulling out all of the pieces can be time consuming and you need decent space.

I've tried learning to crochet. I can make single chains. ;)
  • @sammierose464  I love my Erin Condren but I agree it is big. I have a small notebook I use like a bullet journal also.

I find knitting to be easier than crocheting.  ;)
  • @kiwi2628 that all sounds awesome. I love to travel. I did more when I was single. I'm really hoping to do a trip to Scotland for our 5 year wedding anniversary in 2022.
  • All I have left on my first cross stitch project is a backstitch outline and it's driving me crazy.
  • My major hobby is photography; I’m not super serious about it, but I’ve been doing it since I was a kid.

My more social hobbies are swing dancing and doing macrame on people.  I’ve been dancing for about six years, and playing with rope for about three years.

In my free time, I run an adult coloring group, contemplate my basket of unfinished knitting projects, and poke through my bead boxes.
  • aels12 We just got a Cricut Explore Air 2 for Christmas. DH has become a vinyl enthusiast.

@knottieamusements I enjoy that you call it "macrame on people".

@nmadjeski I am the same way about reading. I listen to a lot of audiobooks while I'm driving now, which seems to be my main way of getting reading in. I've had a book from my favorite author since Feb and it's so good, but I find myself struggling to find the focus and energy to actually read a physical book.

  • @sammierose464 - Googling that tends to provide somewhat more accessible information and less explicit images than the other things it is called.   o:)
  • I love to knit and always have at least one project along. If any of you knitters/crocheters are on ravelry or instagram my name is norahkathleen both places. Come find me!
I also read a lot, but have been pushing myself into audiobooks so I can knit at the same time. I am just way pickier about them because it has to be just the right book for me, and more importantly the right narrator, or it drives me crazy in minutes. Thankful for audible's return feature. ;)

  • My main two hobbies are working out and traveling. I was a big runner (half fanatic) before two knee surgeries, then got into yoga, then dabbled in barre, and now I’m enjoying beach body videos and random classes at the gym.

DH and I make it a priority to make at least one international trip per year. In the last 17 months we’ve traveled to Portugal, Morocco, and Spain (for the 2nd time) and visited New Zealand and  Australia. We are trying to plan our summer vacation now and are narrowing down our options!
  • I am so inspired by everyones hobbies/talents! Ive always been a start something new but let it go kinda hobbyist.  I have good intentions but just never seem to find the time to stick with something.

I can crochet but haven't finished any one project in the last 3 years.  The baby blanket I made for DD (2.5) still needs the ends finished and sewn in.  I am sure Ill start one for this babe. Fingers crossed I can finish it!!

I recently got a fancy camera and I have been on and off teaching myself how to use it.  I love taking the photos but I suck at uploading them to my computer. This is my big goal for the next few years.  I want to take a photography class but will probably wait until next spring to sign up for anything.

I also love doing seasonal crafts with my toddle.  I love baking so we made and decorated sugar cookies for Easter.
  • My hobbies prepregnancy included craft beer tasting with DH...but that has obviously ended for now. We also enjoy working out together, which has been sparse the last few months as well but this week has been better, and we play trivia with friends weekly. I also love to cook and bake new recipes, but that has also been difficult the last few months. I’m really hoping I can get back in to it now that I’m a little less nauseous.

I am so jealous of all of you crafters! I love to craft but I am so bad at it and I am not creative at all. I also have very little time right now to try new things because I’m completing my masters degree so that takes up a majority of my free time.

  • @spartan4life I host a trivia show every week. It's a lot of fun.
  • @sammierose464 I bet! We always have a good time, even though we usually don’t do very well. I bet you learn a lot with all of those questions!

  • I go through different hobbies when I'm in different moods...winter is definitely for knitting. All i make are hats and scarves. Summer is for painting, whether its something on canvas or paint by numbers. I bought some drawing supplies, never really know what to draw. Otherwise TV watching is my hobby, and I go through PC gaming phases.
  • Sewing, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles. I also love to draw but it never comes out well unless I’m also drinking wine.

  • I too am one that gets obsessed with things and then completely drops off. My mom was very crafty so over the years I've started a lot of things. Last year I took up cross-stitching (again) and did it for several months, then I've barely picked it up since October. I've also started to learn guitar about 5 times. Now I generally spend my free time reading, binge watching something, or napping.

My hobbies/ passions are traveling (visited 21% of the world according to my travel app) and then scrapbooking and blogging about the trips. I love planning the trips and would  totally be a travel adjent if there was money in it! We used to play dodgeball together as a couple, but now that we have our puppy she takes up most of our free time with lots of hikes and play/ training sessions. We enjoy boardgames and host couples tournament style game nights often.  We watch a lot of movies in the evenings as we both like to unwind that way. I enjoy cooking and used to have a cook club with some girls.
Edited to add: I also used to swing dance for 5 years.

I love to scrapbook and try out a variety of crafts I find on pintrest!! My brothers gf likes to hike so we started to get into that last summer and I'd like to do a few shorter hikes this summer with her. I used to love going riding on the four wheeler with family for trips or just cruising down back roads with some friends in trucks and find some mud!!
Not much of a hobby but my favorite thing to do in the summer is to sit by a fire with friends and a radio and just visit, hangout, stare at the stars!

Edit to add I also love to travel and visit family or take mini vacas with DH and hopefully when baby bear gets a bit older we'll be able to keep going!
  • I love re purposing old furniture!! Other than that work and kids keep me pretty busy. Is binge watching Netflix considered a hobby? lol

@DunkinDecaf Everything looks better with wine!
  • @sammierose464 @quiltandknit - Yay planners! I don't know what I'd do without mine. My calendar app on my phone just doesn't do it for me lol. I want my washi tape and stickers and color pens lol

  • Is running and working out a hobby? I think so, since it usually consumes my free time. I have cut back but hoping now that I am feeling better I will go more.
I also paint and love teaching my painting classes.

  • @Laumb11 - running and working out are definitely hobbies.   :D
  • I think I used to have hobbies before DS. I don’t remember.  :( Before this pregnancy I was doing a lot of jigsaw puzzles which I enjoy.
  • @ladyofarlington do you still run? I used to be really into it to but the last few years I only run in spring and summer and sparingly. I started up again in late February and I figure it’s okay because my body has had years of practise, though maybe not that much in the last few months prepregnancy.

I actually really enjoy going to the gym! I’m a little paranoid about doing my weight training class, Body Pump, because it requires a lot of being on your back so I’ve laid off on that though I miss it! I still do my Zumba classes and I love it! I’m hoping to continue as long as possible.

At home I love to read. My original degree is in English literature and it’s great downtown for me. My husband and I share s car so I take the bus a few times a week and can lots of reading done then. It’s pretty addictive.

I absolutely love to travel! I worked in South Korea for a few years before I got my teaching job here and was able to see a lot of Asia. It was incredible. My husband and I took s trip to Barcelona and England last summer and the timing couldn’t have been better. We now have a baby on the way and a crazy mortgage so big trips will mostly be on hold. I am thinking of cashing in my points for a brief baby moon in July though. Is that too late? I’m due oct 18 but teach up to June 29th. I was thinking three days away to a US city. I haven’t travelled in the States anywhere beyond NYC. Anyone else thinking about a little trip pre baby?
  • Reading (mostly audio books while I am doing dishes)
I like crafting but don't ever seem to finish what I start so I don't start things anymore
Shooting handguns at a range with my husband
    Watching Tv with my DH
    Boring but we love it
