We were set on Cora for a good while for our first if she's a girl, but seeing it skyrocket in popularity (#2 on the Nameberry 2017 list) has me wondering about options. The last name works easily with any of these choices (but not with names ending in "ee" sounds -- it's similar to Mahoney). Feel free to chime in with other similar names. Fiona is a distant possibility but I've not sold my husband on it.
Use the social security list for your state to compare popularity. I love Cora and it’s getting more popular but it’s not like an Ava or Emma... yet at least. Lydia was my vote, although it is also rising in popularity and probably similar to Cora. I don’t dislike Talia but it is not as classic sounding to me, has a more modern trendy feel. I like Fiona too.
Lydia is in my list but I think is becoming just as popular as Cora, if not more. Talia is more unique and still has the pretty sounds I like in Lydia.
Thanks for replying! I did know Nameberry rankings were based on searches, but there isn't more reliable 2017 data out there yet. We're still on the Cora-Lydia-Talia fence, but as I predicted, Talia seems to be growing on my husband. Any more feedback is welcome!
If I recall correctly, the Social Security Office releases an updated list of baby names in mid May, so the 2017 data will be available soon. Not sure when you are due though.

I like Lydia much better than Talia, but Fiona is my favorite. I also wouldn’t worry about nameberry rankings. I only know one Cora IRL .... who is 28ish.

I feel you on not knowing any Coras. Neither do I! But my mother had never met anyone with my name and I was 1 of 3 in my class in 2 different years. That's why it's important to me to pay attention to current popularity, not just my own experience.
Cora looks like the most popular of these in my state in 2016, followed by Fiona and Lydia. Talia doesn't crack the top 100.
Of course, popularity isn't the only issue! We also want a pretty and dignified name that "works."
Re: Lydia vs. Talia?
Lydia is so boring and overdone in my opinion, especially with the popular Lily which is similar
i would also prefer Cora over Lydia
Any more feedback is welcome!

I think you should go with the name you like best.. not worry whether a name might rise too high in popularity in the future
Cora is unlikely to ever reach Emma or Olivia status’s and even if it does, you’ll still consider yours one in a million
