Re: 3rd Trimester Check-in Week of April 2nd

  • Hope everyone had a great Easter this past weekend :) We certainly did..all of my siblings were together Friday visiting my brother, then for Easter dinner me and my 2 sisters and our families all had Easter together. DS had fun with 2 different egg hunts over the weekend. The weather was beautiful and today we woke up to...SNOW! UGH! It's not pretty, it's not cute, I'm so over the damn snow! It's April people.

No appts or anything really for me this week. I am looking into local Doulas or licensed practitioners to do our placenta encapsulation this time around. We have a birthing Doula already, but she doesn't do placenta encapsulation so she's referred us to a few people that I'll be looking into. It's so surreal how quickly it's coming up... 2 1/2 months from due date.

  • I'm doing my usual disheartening for a few weeks :) So happy to join everyone in the 3rd trimester!

•Mini synopsis in your first post with your EDD - EED is June 8th, and I can't wait!!! My belly is FINALLY popping in the last 2 weeks. I guess I am lucky, as besides all the symptoms, I don't feel "big".
•How many babies you are pregnant with - 1 perfect baby
    •If you know the gender(s) - boy
•How you have been feeling in your 3rd tri - Not bad. Still sleep quite well with my Snoogle pillow. More food aversions rather than cravings - finally gaining weight, but very steadily, only a few pounds up from my pre-pregnancy weight (there was a drop in the 1st trimester). Worst part is feet and hands swelling since about week 25, and bad acid reflux (used to be at night only, but now it's 24/7 :( ). Last few days my joints feel "gummy" and often hurt (knees, elbows, wrists, even finger joints), and waking up in the morning feels impossible. Maybe I need to check if some mineral is running low, as I heard low iron can make you feel more tired.
•Any upcoming or recent appointments you may have - Last appointment was about 10 days ago, baby is perfect 50%-ile, but was positioned horizontally. I'm going back this Wednesday to see if he's moved :)

Hope everyone is doing well! I'm getting very impatient in anticipation. Reading "what to expect the first year", and perfecting my registry. We're having a baby shower next weekend, but it doesn't look like people at honoring my ask to stick to the registry :) My mom already bought us more baby clothes in NB-6m size than one baby can possibly wear  :D And I feel that there will be more onesies coming....

  • @TravelingCouple where are you from if you don't mind me asking. I'm in Ohio and the snow from last night was ridiculous but glad its melting already.
    helloworld9TravelingCouple
  • @TravelingCouple snow! Oh geez... That is no fun. Sounds like you had a wonderful Easter. Easter egg hunts are the BEST!
@FuzzyDust so happy for you to join us. :) We need to buy and read that book as well. I hear it is actually pretty helpful. We got a ton of clothes at our shower, thankfully in all different sizes, but not sure if he will wear them all as well. I also sleep with a Snoogle pillow.

AFM- I have honestly been miserable.... I cried a lot of the day yesterday and went into the doctor today (not my regular OB, just who was available) to talk about my constant pain. I broke down in the doctors office because everything on my body hurts. It feels like I am broken. I have already been to the chiro 4 times and had 3 massages and nothing is helping. My back, legs and hips are in constant pain and it is like a 6-8 on the pain scale. I got some pain meds which they reassured me are safe. I hate taking anything, but at this point I am desperate. I don't know how I am going to make it 2 more months until my due date. I might just have to go on maternity leave early, which sucks because I was saving my 220 hours of leave until the baby came. ARGH.
TTC 4 years. 7 failed IUI's with either Clomid, Femara and/or Trigger Shots. Started IVF journey in February 2017. Polyps removed in May. 1st IVF Transfer September 26th. BFP. Expected due date 6/14/18. Baby boy born 5/25/18 at 6 lb 9 oz. My bundle of joy.

  • @Holls214 - Oh man, that sounds miserable :( I'm so sorry you're going through the pain. Maybe try a bath or a swimming pool? When I went to Florida for our "kidna babymoon", being in the pool felt magical - that was the only time I wasn't aware about being pregnant. Hope you feel better, or the pain meds help <3

  • 35+2 today and feeling large. Just large. My next appointment is this Thursday and it will be an ultrasound. So excited since the last time I had an ultrasound was at 20 weeks. So it's been four long months!

Also hastily trying to buy up things from the registries with coupons and completion discounts. Only have a month or so and I need to get everything here in the apartment asap. On a side note I love the Target registry gift bag! It came with a small Avent baby bottle which is awesome. :)

  • I go here now!  28w4d, EDD June 21st, team green.  I am so relieved I passed my three hour glucose test.  I literally thought after I failed the one hour I was doomed...so that has been a huge relief.  However, I am HORRIBLY itchy, like the worst rash or reaction to something.  It's pretty much covering my entire body except my stomach (which is weird).  I don't know if it is hormone related or what, but I haven't changed anything in my diet or detergent, etc.  I called the dermatologist to see if I can get in to get it under control because I look like I rolled in poison ivy.  We have our 3D ultrasound next week and then a check up the week after.  I think that'll be my last appointment before we start to go every two weeks.

sounds like a nice holiday weekend @TravelingCouple!

reflux is the worst @FuzzyDust; mine has luckily tamed itself down with the help of zantac but it was so bad before I would throw up.  I need to pick up that book too!  I've been reading a lot of sleep books but should venture out for other info.

omg @Holls214, I'm so sorry you're hurting that badly.  was the doctor able to help you in any way?  I feel like your pain must be how my rash is; I cannot stop itching, I am bleeding/puffy from the scratches.  I've tried everything from oatmeal baths to benadryl to cortisone cream but the only relief I get is from ice packs which are temporary.

    yay for an ultrasound @helloworld9!
    Hopeful_momTravelingCouplehelloworld9FuzzyDust
  • @Aera11 have you asked to be tested for cholestasis? Your itchiness and rash could be caused by that.

This app SUX on mobile it deletes everything, hate it!!!

@helloworld9 ur post disappeared and I basically said how fabulous I'm sure u look ur just not used to having a bump ;). I'm 4wks behind u and I'm freightened at how much bigger my ass and thighs are gonna grow...the belly part make sure sense  :D I still have to look into registries I'm so behind, it's good to hear what ppl prefer!!   U have way more patience then me I would've never been able to go that long without an US, enjoy it!!

@travelingcouple sounds like you had a great holiday!  I think I'm in denial that I need to start looking into the delivery part soon.  Thinking about the placenta encapsulation.  Gotta go do the hospital tour soon too right.  I sometimes forget this is happening.

@Holls214 u poor thing I really feel for u!! I've been sick this week and of course didn't want to take a thing but had to give in.  Hoping the meds can help make a difference and give u some relief!! I know you want to work to the end but try and put ur needs first!

@aera11 Yay welcome to 3rd tri woohoo!!! I know how exciting that milestone is! So sorry ur in such pain it sounds like the chicken pox just awful!!  Really hoping the dr will have some answers for u! So frustrating when these things just pop up for no rhyme or reason! Yay for passing GC I was stressed about that one And I still wonder if it was accurate or if I need to do it over. Good luck with ur 3D US, I'm really hoping I can get one at my next appt!

AFM: 30+5 excited that in another couple of days I start to count down in single digit weeks woohoo, it seems a bit surreal!
so my cold went full blown everything and I had to take meds from the dr I kept putting it off but they said it was getting too bad so I gave in.  Just been on the meds a few days will be glad when I don't need to walk around with a tissue box.  Glad I don't have any appt this week and get to avoid the snow, I have my OB and MFM both next week. Just want to stop feeling like crap already!
Today I really spent my day yet again on the phone with Insurance that costs me a fortune and yet my copays seem outta control.  My echo was covered but yet ends up costing $200 I hate all the extra hidden fees for everything.  I was all OOP for ivf u think I would get used to it.
The pressure I feel in my lower abdomen still freaks me out they keep saying it's normal but it scary when u still have quite some time to go!!

  • @rel_1987 no I've never heard of that but I'll definitely ask! I looked it up & it says there's no rash though & I'm covered in one.

@Hopeful_mom haha definitely not chicken pox, there's no distinct irritation/bump, just a consistent ongoing stretch of raised red skin. Lovely right? Hope you get to do a 3D!
    helloworld9
  • @Aera11 a friend of mine had something similar called PUPP. She had to have a steroid to help. It disappears after birth.
    helloworld9
  • @FuzzyDust welcome! Sorry to hear about the acid reflux, I'm right there with you! I'm on 2 things for it right now, otherwise I can barely drink water! Mine was the same where it used to only be at night but has gradually in the end of the 2nd trimester migrated to being all day. Glad you finally popped! I love when people can finally tell  I'm sure you look super cute! When is your next blood draw? They should be able to see in that whether you're low on anything. I was extremely tired as well and turns out my iron was low. They should be checking that at some point soon I'd bet!

@Holls214 That book was available for a free download (at least a week ago it was) if you have amazon prime, just an FYI for anyone! I haven't gotten to read it yet but excited to soon  So sorry to hear how much in pain you are, that sounds absolutely horrible. Have the pain pills helped at all? I know it's not ideal to have to start maternity leave early but listen to your body, if there's no way for you to work without making your pain worse then I hope you're able to rest and accommodate whatever will make the next couple of weeks less miserable

@helloworld9 I've loved the free bags from different places  Minus babies r us, theirs didn't have anything (at least from our store). But Target and buy buy baby were both great little freebie bags!

@Aera11 yikes, how to you manage with the itching? I have really sensitive skin and have had a few rashes since being pregnant but only in certain areas, I can't imagine a full body one!

@hopeful_mom ugh sorry to hear the cold didn't get better  I know I started to feel a ton better after about 2-3 days of feeling the worst and about a week after it started so I hope you're close to being at that point! I just within the last 2 days ditched the ever present cough and congested nose. We were OOP for IVF as well but thankfully my insurance has been better about cover things (at least so far) for being pregnant. It still astounds me the things they will cover but wanting to start a family is "elective".

AFM - 29 weeks + 4 days - ready to be in the 30s. The last 2 weeks have really made me ready to be at a point that I'd be ok with him arriving. I had to call the ER AGAIN last weekend because I was on the medicine they told me to take for lessening my contractions but told me if I had more than 6 an hour to call. Well I was def. having more than that but thankfully my Dr. was the on-call Dr. and told me that because my cervix had looked so good when they monitored me that unless they got more painful or more like period cramps to just rest and stay hydrated. I had more than 100 contractions that day  s Since then I've had to be really diligent about the meds they put me on (was supposed to be every 6 hours, I'd sleep through the night and take it first thing in the morning) and waking up at 3 AM to take some but that seems to have helped. A girl in one of my facebook groups said she had something similar happen and that she dealt with prodromal labor the whole 3rd trimester. It's basically false labor like what most women go in for towards the end of their pregnancy thinking it's labor kicking off, but it's not actively softening your cervix. She said she went to 41 weeks with her daughter which made me feel a ton better, I've been so worried about going into labor any day now because these have happened so much, it's comforting to hear that it doesn't necessarily mean I'll be early (esp. this early!) I think it may just be how my body does pregnancy and I'll take that if it means he can stay until he's healthy, I was getting really freaked out thinking I'd have a 30 week old premie  I never thought I'd be one of those girls that said she was ready for labor because labor has always scared me but I am so there now, I'm just ready to be to the point that he is healthy and can be here so i can stop second guessing everything I'm doing (at least for myself, I'm sure as a mom I'll do that as well  )!

Have a check up friday with my actual doctor so I'm excited for that, then baby shower back home next weekend  I'm so ready to be able to finally start buying baby things, we've bought furniture for his room but are waiting until after our showers to do much else to see where we end up. It's gotten so real in the last few weeks!

  • @loverin so sorry you are still dealing with that. Hopefully with the med change things will calm down. Exciting for baby shower next weekend! We held off on buying too many things until the baby shower was over as well. I am sure you will get a lot of neat stuff.
@Aera11 Yay for ultrasounds! Sorry you are dealing with skin issues. That sounds miserable. Hopefully they can find some answers for you. Can you take an oatmeal bath or something? I know that can help with itching...
@Hopeful_mom glad you are feeling better. Having a cold while pregnant is horrible. I hate how everything is so expensive as well. My co-pays for alternative care are really adding up.
AFM I am just exhausted. Haven't slept more than 3-4 hours in the past week. I think a nap is in order today. Went to the chiro again today. Hopefully things will start looking up soon. Last night was kinda crazy at about 2am the baby had hiccups for the first time. It kinda freaked me out because I didn't know what was going on. They lasted about 5-8 minutes. It was surreal. He was squirming around and hiccuping at the same time. I could feel every single hiccup and they were fast. Has anyone else felt hiccups yet?

@Holls214 Ugh I'm so sorry about your pain :( There is an end in sight! Just a few more months...but I'm sure that feels so far away when you're in so much pain.
@hopeful_mom I'm sorry it turned into a full cold, I feel your pain!! I'm FINALLY back to health but it took a good 3 weeks to fully kick what I had...ugh. I hope it passes soon.

@Aera11 Glad to see you here! Maybe the itchiness is due to your skin stretching?

@Hopeful_mom That's so annoying your post got deleted! I would be frustrated too. I need to post an updated bump pic at some point. I feel like the pictures I took a couple months ago look small compared to now!

@loverin Almost to the 30s! That's great you are getting set up now before you get too big to want to move around (me right now)!

@Holls214 The hiccups will get more noticeable as the baby grows! It will shake your entire belly. It's such an odd feeling right? I remember when I first felt them, I can only feel them inside. Now my husband can put his hand on my bump and feel them too.

@TravelingCouple I've never heard of placenta encapsulation. What is it for? It sounds really interesting!

@rel_1987 Wow the 15th!! That is less than two weeks away. So crazy!!

AFM I find it really cute my husband is getting excited about the baby's arrival! I'm just so happy about where we are at now. Just to think that last year I was crying myself to sleep after hearing about pregnancy announcements. Things have certainly changed and I'm very grateful for that.

  • @helloworld9 there's a lot of support behind it in its belief to help with milk production, lower risk of PPD or baby blues, decrease post partum bleeding, faster healing, restores hormone levels...and those are just the things I remember.

I did it with my DS too and although I have nothing to compare it to, I had great milk production and never had any baby blues. I felt like my hormones leveled out quickly.

It's not a well studied practice and there are many people who say it does nothing or criticize it, but with any birth decision, you have to choose what feels right for you. The benefits I read about while researching far outweighed any negatives I read and my personal experience was positive last time around. I think it's so interesting!! This organ supplies all your baby's nutrients for 9+ months and then can help after birth too, so cool :)

  • @persnickity I saw a dermatologist today & she said it's definitely not PUPPP.

@Holls214 oatmeal baths were the first thing I tried but they didn't do anything but leave a mess in my tub  :D

luckily I was able to get into the dermatologist today; originally they said next week was the earliest but they had a cancellation.  They said it must be a really bad allergic reaction to something but since it's been ongoing for two weeks we can't figure out what it was.  They gave me a steroid that's safe & I mix it with lotion to apply. FX it helps so I don't look like I have a flesh eating disease at my sisters wedding in a few weeks.
    Hopeful_momhelloworld9
  • @Aera11 fingers crossed the steroids and cream works for you! Seems strange an allergic reaction would last for so long but who knows. Hopefully the hubs cleaned the tub afterwards! ;)

  • @TravelingCouple @Aera11 super cute picture you look great! Also hope your rash gets better!

@Holls214 I am so sorry you aren't feeling well!! hang in there..I've had pain off and on as well, some days I feel like you where I can't think of going any more days because it hurts so bad to get off the couch! Try and stay positive, it might get better. My pain started around 31 weeks but i feel its lessened some, I have good days and bad days, so try and not think about it as all down hill from here! Try baths with epsom salts? Those have helped me, and someone mentioned swimming as well and that has been a lifesaver for me! Not only do I feel better emotionally when I exercise but it really is the only place where I don't feel like a whale! Walking is so uncomfortable now!

@cashewchicken Early congrats for tomorrow! Can't believe your day is here! Post pictures when you're feeling up to it!

@rel_1987 Can't believe your date is approaching as well! We joined this board the same week and in some ways it feels like forever ago, and in others it feels like yesterday! I'm happy you are taking off work soon! That will be nice before baby comes! Hoping you can get labor started on your own!

I am 37+1, can't believe it! Baby hasn't dropped yet as far as I know. We had our last fetal growth US on friday, I'm so confused...last time the head was 97% and now its 25??? They kind of just blew it off! I know human error and whatever can throw off the measuring but still, thats a lot! They say they farther along you are the more inaccurate ultrasounds are which leads me to think why the heck are we putting so much weight on it then!? So anyways, because of the size I don't qualify for the birth center at the hospital and will have to do regular L&D. Not the end of the world I suppose. They said they will induce at 41 weeks if I haven't had it by then. Nursery is finally coming together, hubby is traveling for work this week in Ohio but my mom is staying with me which is nice. He gets back tonight so as long as baby holds out until then I'm happy for it to come whenever! He has to go to vegas tomorrow and palm springs next week but I'll be joining him (we are driving) so we may have a baby in another state but thats ok as long as he is there! Seriously can't believe it will be here in the next 3 weeks or so...crazy!

  • @meredithj123 thank you. I have been taking baths with salts. They help for a couple hours then I am right back. I found a couple pools that have "senior" swim which is open to pregnant women, so I think I will give that a go. There isn't much around here for indoor pools with just open swim. I will just have to find a bathing suit that fits now. 3 weeks away- hooray! That is so exciting.
@cashewchicken good luck tomorrow! I hope everything is smooth sailing for you. :)

  • @Holls214 obviously u were very thin to begin with and are carrying beautifully!! I know u may not feel that way but u certainly look it ;)

After I read ur post about the hiccups I swear I felt them which was hilarious because I didn't realize that's what it was.  And the baby was head down at the time so talk about getting a kick in my vag for a few minutes straight!

@meredithj123 it does seem like forever ago that we joined but its amazing that its almost over. Today is officially my last day of work and I'm excited. I am pretty sure my induction date will be the 13th but will update more after my appt tomorrow morning.

Wow I have missed a lot this week! Great to hear everyone's updates! Sorry for those of you in pain! I feel like the best things for me have been Epsom salt baths and stretching really well every night before bed. Also for itching, @Aera11 if that doesn't work I would try aloe vera. I have seen it work miracles!

AFM 37+1 with twins and kinda ready to die... fortunately induction date is next Wednesday (11th), but every day I'm just ready to get them out! If these little ones are on track with how they've been growing, by next week they'll be over 6 1/2 lbs each!!! Lemme tell ya, carrying around that much baby in your belly is NOT comfortable! Also my family SUCKS with social cues so every day I have at least one, if not 3, people asking me if the babies have come yet in 'funny' ways that just really aren't funny right now. "Has your turkey timer popped or are you still feeling like a mama whale?" I mean, seriously?? I'm allowed to say whale, but NO ONE ELSE is allowed to!!! I have another appointment tomorrow, but fortunately it should be my LAST one!!! So ready to meet these babies and start getting my body back! Literally the only thing left to do is pack toiletries for our hospital bags, and that's all we've had left for a few weeks now, so we're kinda sick of the 'any day now' bit. Every week the doctor keeps saying "you're doing great! We're surprised you've managed to keep them in there this long!" Can't wait for next week!

Also, this is me at 35+3. Y'all look so cute and I am seriously HuGE! But I kinda knew that would happen with twins. Also @Holls214 if it helps I've gained 48 so far! I know I'm having 2 but seriously you look great! One of the first things my doctor said to me is ignore the scale and just try to eat healthy. If you cut back when hungry, that just depleted your nutrients cause babies are gonna take whatever they need! So make sure to eat your fruits and veggies, and not to overeat, but seriously let the numbers go!
