Re: Weekly Randoms (3/26)

  • I was all about Felicity. I would love to binge watch that right now.

  • @galactickates Hahaha they just wanted to be in a different spot. That is too funny!

Never even heard of Party of Five. Never watched ER. Nerd alert! I've recently been binging British gardening shows as my mindless background tv. And by background tv I mean I ended up becoming enthralled.
  • @galactickates you can't trust them! They're sneaky!  ;)
  • @galactickates Hahaha! I love that Lucy ran as far away as possible like "Don't get me in trouble!"

  • @SkilledSailor Wait, that sounds amazing - what are the names of these British gardening shows? The Great British Baking Show is basically the most relaxing thing on earth, so I'm thinking these types of shows would be similarly delightful?

@galactickates So adorable and so clever! Did you have any idea until now that they could open that gate???
  • @maureenmce All of these are on Netflix. It started with “Big Dreams, Small Spaces” then “Love Your Garden”. Now I’m watching “Escape to the Country” which is basically the British cottage version of House Hunters.
  • @SkilledSailor Oh my god, "Escape to the Country" sounds like my dream show! I can't believe I didn't know it existed. Thank you!
  • @SkilledSailor I was going to ask you for more details.  Finding now!
  • @doxiemoxie212 You can binge ER on hulu! Its mine and DHs current binge. We also own most seasons but hulu is so convenient!

  • @MrsMiller8588 are you telling me I have to sign up for Hulu? I cancelled my free trial. I’m going to have to make another stupid gmail address to get the free trial again. What a hassle. The things I do to alleviate my own boredom... ;):D:p
  • @doxiemoxie212 ER is totally worth it... and once you start binging you don't need to search for a new show for a long time!

  • She should probably run now. Seems like this is just the tip of the BSC she's going to/is dealing with.
  • @doxiemoxie212 @galactickates @eleven_
You ALL need to get Hulu. ER, Party of 5, and Felicity are all there. Along with Dawson’s Creek which is like air to me. I’m currently binging Felicity and I think Po5 is next as I’ve never seen it but always wanted to.

  • @doxiemoxie212 I might own every season as well...

@eleven_ Dawson sucks. But my love for Pacey Witter knows no bounds, so I revisit it pretty often.

  • @galactickates - clever pooch! My dachshunds can't figure our gate out. My cat rams her head into the bars trying to push it out but it swings forward so... sorry, cat. Nice try?

I signed up for Hulu recently to watch The Handmaid's Tale. I couldn't stomach watching it last year shortly after our country literally fell into the hands of one of the biggest Sons of Jacob, Mike Pence. I'm intimately familiar with his anti-woman policies as he was our (very hated) governor in Indiana. But now that I see something like 80% of the country is pissed off I feel better watching it. Lots of *ugh, this makes my stomach hurt* moments (like shortly after Serena Joy ushered in the madness, she became excluded from meetings because she has a vagina and her former colleague said "Women have gotten so involved in academic and professional pursuits that they've forgotten their real purpose." Cue bile rising in my throat.

So I'm a year late to the party. But I seriously couldn't watch it last year. I was already having trouble sleeping and focusing on anything other than the downward spiral we were falling down. But I feel better now. I'm angrily cross-stitching a sampler I'm going to put in my office pointedly toward my little sofa where students sit for our meetings as a message to vote in November. It's subtle but not. I'll AW pictures when I'm done.
  • @wishiwaspreggo Ooh I love that show! I can't wait for it to come back on! It was scary how relevant it is though. Especially considering when the book was written.
  • Yes @SkilledSailor! I have seen a few but haven't shared any YET. I will. Part of me wants to add that I'm 1 of 4 but part of me doesn't want to deal with comments and messages to follow.....
  • @prpl11butterfly Yeah, I haven't shared that type of thing TW***(our CP or having a Clomid baby)**END TW on FB but I am pretty open about it in person. But I'm obviously closer to people I'm seeing in person. I don't want to deal with empty sympathies from a college roommate I haven't spoken to in 10 years.
  • Not sure what our TW policies are here so

    TW previous pregnancy

When I was pregnant with DD one of my coworkers I barely knew asked me to pee on an hpt so she could prank her husband with the pregnancy test. I told her no and was pretty appalled that she would ask someone she barely knew to pee on a stick for them.

  • Exactly! I'm being open in person as well because it's been very healing for me. I do have a lot of family in mine and they would be about the only reason I'd day something. I'm going crazy because I had planned to announce this weekend :disappointed:

:flushed: ashamed to say I was that ignorant 18 year old that thought it'd be a funny april fool's day joke.  Not my proudest moment and as silly as it is, for a while I thought I *deserved* IF and to struggle TTC because of that and so many other reasons. #youngermewasanasshole

  • @prpl11butterfly *hugs* That definitely makes this weekend harder. Nothing crazy about that.

@meggyme Ew. So she was just going to casually walk around with your pee on a stick. Ew.
  • @SkilledSailor AND give it to her husband!

  • Even as a college student, I knew not to do the pregnant status. I switched my status to in a relationship (I had never dated anyone at that point).

@meggyme and @coco2787 My mouth gaped open in shock at reading both of your stories! WTF is wrong with people???

@lurvleybunchococonuts Oh that made me so sad to read - don't worry, I think 18 year old *everyone* is an asshole. It's kind of just part of being young and lacking perspective. I'm glad you don't still beat yourself up over it.

My random is more of a pity party - I got a $73 parking ticket today because I had to redo a coworker's project (that he messed up) under a really tight deadline and I completely forgot to move my car in time for street cleaning. :( So I'm angry at myself and angry that I seem to be the designated person to fix everyone else's mistakes in the office. Grr.
  • @maureenmce that really sucks. Any chance you can coax coworker into paying it?
  • @maureenmce, can you just not do it? Make sure your contributions are documented and fulfilled and let them fail? Or tell your boss, "Hey, so and so might need more training because I'm constantly fixing their stuff." They need to fail sometimes so the boss can get them on the right track or fire them if they can't do the job.
  • @prpl11butterfly Oh I wish! Instead, he was actually mad that I was correcting his document (not like I wanted to, buddy!)

@lovesclimbing Sadly, we're in a pretty deadline sensitive place and stuff just has to get done. My boss is very aware of how unbalanced things are, but she can't help it because, again, we just have to finish stuff asap and it's kind of a like a do whatever needs to be done mentality. Luckily, I work freelance and will only be on this particular job for another couple of months, but it's been so frustrating to be the sort of "clean up" person for everyone else's work. (This is far from an isolated incident.) Anyway, just keeping my head down and looking forward to wrapping in June!
  • @maureenmce I totally understand. I have been in the same place with my job lately, having to correct everyone else's work because they can't seem to be bothered to learn how to do it properly. It makes me so mad when they get upset with me for correcting their work. I'm an editor, so I can be nitpicky with grammar and punctuation and whatnot, but I don't really care because it needs to be right. And seriously, if someone whose sole job is writing doesn't know how to use a comma or format a sentence correctly...I just can't even. Glad to hear that you'll only be on this job for a few more months!

  • @lurvleybunchococonuts

How courageous of you to share that!  There are for sure times I feel like I deserve IF/loss.

But now for a lighter note.... When I was ::cough::MUCH::cough:: younger, I had lots of issues after having sex. For a while, I seriously thought it to be my punishment for premarital sex.
Cue about a year later when I found out I had a latex allergy.
  • I only wish the idiot I work with would pretend to be upset when we have to correct his work. He just shrugs and fixes it (if it's something we can't correct on our end). Wash rinse repeat.....

We all did stupid things  we were yonger. It's how you grow and learn.
