Hi there! This is supposed to be a Sunday thread, but I forgot to post it yesterday. Anyway, I know it's very, very early for appointments but in case anyone else (like me!) is doing beta testing this week, you can chat about your appointment and results here!

As for me, going to get my first betas done in (eek) an hour or so! Then I'll be back Wednesday. **TW miscarriage** after two losses I am really, really, really nervous, but trying to stay calm and be hopeful. end TW** Wishing everyone else doing betas GOOD LUCK! <3

Re: Weekly Appointments w/o 3/26 (Beta testing!)

  • I had mine drawn this morning. I’m just waiting (anxiously) for the results.

  • Up numbers, up!

Well ladies my beta was only 8 and my progesterone was also low, so I don’t think I’ll be joining you after all. I have an appointment tomorrow, but I am pretty sure that is only so they don’t have to give me official bad news over the phone. Best wishes to all of you ladies! Prayers for a happy and healthy 9 months.
  • Oh @katy0990 I'm so, so sorry. I've been there and it's so hard. I hope you get your rainbow soon. Take care of yourself.
  • Finished my second round of betas this morning and should know if things are good or not by end of day tomorrow. I am a bundle of nerves! I know we've had new people join in the last day or two - anyone else having betas done? You can post about it here if you want, your nerves, your numbers, etc.!
  • My doc won’t do my beta count unless I’m bleeding, which is so annoying considering my history. Well, I’m sure SHE would say it’s fine, but the staff there blows. I mean it’s not like they’re paying for it or anything, and I had it done last pregnancy without bleeding. Now I guess I just wait for April 14th.

In order to get a referral to see an ob-gyn I had to get a blood test.  I got one on what I think was dpo 11 and my beta was 103.  Now I'm POAS every day to see the progression and comparing my results to pictures of others' tests (posted online) at various hcg levels.  I think I'm going off the deep end here.

Hugs, girl.  It's so dang hard.

  • @kadeephd I know how you feel! I've been making my husband look at my collection of pregnancy tests (one every day, sometimes multiple a day, since Saturday!) I made myself stop yesterday but it's so hard. The waiting is the worst. Are they having you get a second round of betas to see if the hcg doubled? Or are they just happy with your initial number and scheduling an ultrasound for a few weeks from now?
  • @maureenmce How are you doing waiting on the call from your doc? It feels like the longest amount of time :(

  • @maureenmce glad I'm not the only one...

My first test was at the student health center of my school.  They will not do another test there, but I think when I go for my first appointment on April 3 they'll check it again.  By then it should have doubled about 3 times.

When do people usually go for their first appointment?  I feel like this is early.  I'll only be about 4 weeks 4 days at that point (I think).  They said it was just for blood work and a consultation.

  • @texas_t The morning went great because I was working on a really intense work project with a deadline, but...now that that's done, I am basically staring at my phone wondering when is the earliest I could call my OB's office "just to check in" even though they told me, specifically, they'd call me by end of day, probably afternoon. Sigh.

@kadeephd It is a bit early unless is this your first? With my first, I had an early appointment with my regular doctor (didn't have an OB yet) to confirm, and then I had an early appointment with my OB, once I found her, to have a consultation and get an early ultrasound (I was 6 weeks for the OB, 4 weeks for my regular doctor appointment.)
  • @kadeephd That does seem really early.  My OB doesn't do a first appointment until 7 or 8 weeks.  If they've seen you before and you have any issue with bleeding, cramping, etc, they'll call you in a for a HCG blood draw.   Is this your first time with this doc? They may just want to establish a baseline and then if anything comes up, they can get you in ASAP.

@maureenmce It is my first, so maybe that is why.  Hope you get that call soon and that it's good news!

@texas_t It's also my first time with this doc. I think I need to get tested for Zika so I don't mind an early appointment, but I didn't mention that on the phone so the early appointment is unrelated.

  • @maureenmce Ugh - I'm praying they call you ASAP with amazing results!!!

@kadeephd Oh yeah, I think I read where you mentioned you had been somewhere but wore a DEET based spray? (I think I read it before you fixed your name?)  Well, if you're anything like me, I KNOW when I have a mosquito bite.  DH and I went to Mexico last December for our 5th anniversary and we wore bug spray. I don't think I saw a mosquito either.  The good thing about resorts and stuff, they rely on tourists and if people say they see mosquitoes, it will kill their business, so I think most of them spray!

  • @texas_t Yes that was when I was still Knottie!  We had a similar experience as yours in Mexico.  We stayed in a resort and I didn't see one mosquito, plus put on 25% DEET bug spray twice per day.  I think I would notice if I had been bitten, but I'm still paranoid of course.  I'm also worried about getting a false positive zika test, which I've read is somewhat common.

  • @kadeephd I think the biggest issue is if the male has it, it can travel through sperm. Can your husband get tested?

  • @texas_t I am not sure if they allow men to be tested in DC, though they should.  I don't think he was bit either, but we have been and will be very careful unless he is tested and it's negative!

  • @kadeephd Well, fwiw, I'm sorry you even have to think about this :(

@texas_t Thanks.  It's definitely my own fault though since we should have been more careful knowing we were going to Mexico.  I'm upset with myself but also excited and hopeful that everything will be fine.

  • Hello. So I got the results back from the doc. According to my lmp I was 3w 6d when they drew my blood . My hcg was at 87 .they didn't tell me my progesterone and I forgot to ask .From what i've read 87 is OK. Is that right? I go back Tuesday for another check.

  • @GoyaBean913 That number sounds good, but it doesn't say to terribly much because what's more important is that it doubles every 48-72 hours. You'll know tons more when you find out the result Tuesday! Im sorry you have to wait

  • @GoyaBean913 I think 87 is good for a first draw, but @texas_t is right that the doubling (or almost doubling) matters most! Fx for good numbers your next round too! And yes, waiting is the WORST.

Speaking of waiting, I just called my OB and the receptionist was like "Your results are in!" and I got all excited, then she said, "but the doctor hasn't had a chance to look at them yet and I can't give them to you until she sees them and can tell you whatever they mean. I'll have to call you back in a while, probably after hours." BOO. I knew they closed at 4, so I though I'd only have to wait that long. But oh well, what are you going to do? Just wait longer!
  • @maureenmce I bet you were like... JUST TELL ME THE NUMBER! I KNOW WHAT IT MEANSSSS!  I can't believe you have to wait longer

Sooooo it's after 6, they closed at 4, and I feel like they're not going to give me the results today even though they promised they would when I called to check in. :( Trying not to infer that it's because the results are bad, but I'm feeling extra anxious now.

@maureenmce that is crummy that you have to wait. I’d be calling first thing in the morning. Best wishes for great results. I wouldn’t infer anything about not getting the call. I would think it’s because another appointment ran late.
  • @maureenmce I know this is their job and they do it everyday and they're probably desensitized, but that's just wrong. Im so sorry, hun. Prayers for a peaceful night and I'm hopeful for a call first thing in the morning with good news. Hugs

  • Thanks SO much @kadeephd @westcoastfoodie and @texas_t - you guys are the best! <3
  • I've just been reading... is 103 quite high for how early I was on Tuesday?  I think my lmp was March 2 or 3 and I estimated I was 11 days dpo when I had the blood draw on 3/27.  The hcg range for three weeks is 5-50 and four weeks is 4-426.  If my hcg doubles every two days or so it will be high next week too.  Is this concerning?

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kadeephd From what I've read the numbers can vary a LOT. That's why they don't use hcg numbers for dating purposes, because there is so much variation. So I certainly wouldn't worry too much about the number being high (there is concern if the number is too low) but the important thing is that it doubles! Of course, a doctor would be able to tell you more and have more authority, but from everything I've read I wouldn't worry at all with 103 as your first number!
  • @maureenmce Thanks for the reassurance!   I wonder why they even publish those ranges if people with normal pregnancies fall outside of them.  Just to make us crazy maybe...

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kadeephd Yeah, I was reading that if something is significantly wrong, you single reading would be REALLY high.  What are your chances of having twins!?  ;);)
